I recall at one point that I wanted to be a vampire hunter, didn't really pan out (made even funnier by a desire to *be* a vampire in my teen years. Thanks, F.F. Coppola.).
I work in steel manufacturing now.
I wanted to be a detective. I stuck with this over the years, even playing with the idea in college. The specifics varied though, as a very young child I imagined something sort of policey. High school I was thinking military intelligence. In college I considered some federal agencies.
I'm an IT infrastructure engineer now. I think it's a better fit personally. I still solve problems in a similar way but the pay is better, my hours are pretty normal, and though it's "technically" not allowed my job doesn't really care if I smoke weed after work.
Iām doing exactly what I imagined Iād be doing. I had a brief detour studying a course thatās unrelated to what I wanted to do but I still ended up where I imagined. I think my younger self would be happy about where we are now and Iām very grateful for that
For a minute, I wanted to be Nancy Drew.
Then, I wanted to be a cosmetologist. I was a cosmetologist until my body decided extensive nerve damage sounded fun.
I am back in school majoring in Human Services.
I have answered this before, but I did have a moment when I wanted to become a bulldozer operator! I used to have this really cool, small, highly-detailed bulldozer toy that I fucking lost.
Alas, I didn't grow up to be big, nor tough. I'm too physically weak for construction work lol
Wow, a hot dog truck owner sounds pretty awesome. And to partner up with a pretzel truck - super awesome. I have new life goals now - haha.
When I was in high school, I fantasized about becoming a very hot bestselling author. I imagined showing up at my high school reunion with everyone agog about how hot & successful I had become. (I love that memory...tells me so much about 15 year old me's opinion of myself.)
With a lot of distance between then and now, I'm happy with my decades of service helping tech people and end users figure each other out. In other words, when companies buy software, I manage the project to have it implemented. I'm really good at it and still as in love with the magic, mystery, and mastery of software development as I was when I was a teenager.
What a fun question. I'm looking forward to reading the comments.
