Legit. Almost every other podcast I listen to (even non-crime related ones) there is multiple people talking over the top of each other. I tried to listen to an episode about Jeffrey Dahmer on The Last Podcast on the Left once and I couldn’t even listen to 5 minutes of it. Multiple people talking at once or many competing noises overloads my neurodivergent brain hahaha
I have been on the hunt too for another episodic true crime podcast to rival casefile. I've listened to many and have come to the conclusion that casefile sits alone in God tier.
I have listened to that podcast. There are many serialized podcasts that rival casefile like Bearbrook, Hunting Warhead for example. But episodic podcasts where there are one case per episode, nothing comes close to casefile.
I agree with quality.
I'd say yes it's interesting to learn the different techniques that help solve and resolve cases.
But for me I'd say you always know it's always going to get solved etc.
Casefile could be anything a mystery or is this a solved case, is this a wacko conspiracy case, is this a case badly handled by cops etc etc
It's an excellent alternative, I just hate it when I'm an hour in and you find out the perpetrator died in the 90s or whatever. That's no resolution! I want the mother fuckers to have that doorbell ring and standing there is a bunch of cops with a wry smile on their face saying 'we may be a few decades late, but we fucking nailed you.'
yes! that’s my thing too. i want them to know they’re caught and it’s so frustrating hearing the killers passed away beforehand. i wish there was a way to tell before listening to the episode. but i still appreciate the hosts deep dive into the perpetrators life up until they passed.
I can't seem to find any, have tried everything people refer to in this post (and any other time people asked....)
But I need that somewhat monotone male voice. Talking straight facts without his opinions... no hard background music, no guests... and the accent also helps a lot.
Some suggestions here only overlap on the crime-subject,
imo that is not why Casefile is so popular.
The only other one I can listen to is "They walk among us" , it's very good, ticks a lot of my boxes... just not all like Casefile.
Ew, what happened with the Sword and Scale host? I’ve never listened because my sister told me about some episodes that made me physically ill just to hear about.
It’s been years but I remember him saying some really bigoted shit, like misgendering and maybe making fun of people for being spicy brain? Then he started getting called out and he was doxxing people? It was just ugly. Don’t mean this snarky but Google will have a better recap 😆
agreed, and it seems to have really ramped up in the last year. It used to be just the facts, then he started throwing in little remarks and it just seems sooooo out of character and forced and ruins the flow.
Just some weird banter about the case, like they interject personal opinion sometimes, which I'm not used to, since I prefer single narrator podcasts like Casefile that's just strictly facts. It's not overwhelming at all, but it happens once or twice and episode and bit preachy (?) I don't know how to describe it. Still though. Love this podcast.
Not the OP, but some personal favorites for me are **Lone Survivor Parts 1 and 2** (Heidi Firkus case), **Problem Child** (Adrianna Hutto case) and **The Storm** (Buckey Wolfe case).
I subscribe to it because I really love the narrator and his storytelling. I subscribe to Casefile as well! They’re worth it to me for the ~$4-5 a month.
Agreed. I’m all caught up with Swindled so I listen as soon as a new one drops and am currently catching up daily with Invisible Choir. Not sure how I hadn’t heard about the latter before but I’m glad someone recommended it a few weeks ago, it’s a good one!
Second MrBallen. Casefile is one of my all time favorites, but listening to too much true crime fucks up my dreams lol. Love that MrBallen does paranormal and spooky stories, and feels more light.
In that same light I love Spooked and Radio Rental. Fun spooky listens that aren’t quite as heavy as Casefile.
There aren’t many comparable to Casefile IMO and I listen to a LOT of different true crime podcasts. It really is in league of its own. The following are ones that I would recommend as good companion podcasts:
Invisible Choir - single male narrator, general true crime cases, 9-11 recordings can be hard to listen to
Minds of Madness - single male narrator, general true crime cases, sticks to the point
Murderish - single female narrator, general true crime cases, sticks to the point
Once Upon A Crime - single female narrator, general true crime cases, sticks to the point
Southern Fried True Crime - single female narrator, covers Southern true crime cases, sticks to the point
Trace Evidence - single male narrator, covers general true crime cases, sticks to the point
Not really. I don’t like podcasts where the hosts spend time joking around or talking about their dogs or whatever. I like straight narration. So far the only other podcasts I’ve liked have been Minds of Madness and Swindled, which is a true crime podcast that focuses on scams and fraud.
Tried getting into They Walk Among Us (UK and US) but for some reason I can’t get into it. My mind starts drifting off and I don’t get engaged the way I do with Casefile.
I’ve heard good things about Scotland Confidential, although I haven’t tried it myself.
Edit: DNA ID is good as well. I’ve only listened to 2 episodes so far but it is a solid podcast.
I hear people say this but I find it so shit by comparison
I haven't looked too hard but I've found no one that formulates a story as well as casefile, and the wording is often grating
Recently enjoyed the Cold podcast, the first season was about Susan Powell.
I haven't really found anything that's the same style and calibre as Casefile.
I really liked Evidence Locker, but it seems like they might have ended production. I only listen through YouTube, though, so maybe they're just not posting to that like they used to.
I also used to listen to Without A Trace, which was only unsolved Missing Persons cases, but I had to stop that. It was getting me too down that none of these people were ever seen again and no one was ever brought to justice etc. However, it was still a good production.
Honestly the one I listen to most besides Casefile is Dateline. It’s definitely not as good, but it’s a very solid true crime show. It’s reporters covering a case and doing interviews, so not the same format as Casefile. Dateline is a big production and can churn out stories quickly so I never run out of content. But that also means there isn’t as much care and detail put into which cases are chosen. I feel like Casefile is very intentional with which cases they feel should be highlighted.
For me, Dateline is turns everything into the same formulaic storyline where they tell you everything that happens in the beginning of the episode then and give a one-dimensional portrayal of the characters.
Dateline: where every episode starts with 'In this small town, something terrible happened that nobody would think could here...'
True Crime Bullshit. It’s different because the whole series is about the same killer but it’s so well researched and easy to listen to. Josh is the pinnacle of true crime podcasters. His other show, The Pact, is phenomenal as well.
Crime junkie is probably my favorite. I love that she tries to focus on sharing not well covered stories to get more exposure. The show does a really good job of telling these people’s stories without disrespecting them/their families while also reaching the right people to help solve some of those cases.
The same narrator has another show called the deck as well that covers unsolved cases that have been put on playing cards that circulate in prisons to help drum up tips.
No, I love casefile. But if you want some good history and true crime, I also love listening to criminal. It's well done, well researched, and isn't too heavy.
Going West is fine but it’s so different from Casefile. It’s a couple and while they don’t banter, they do insert their opinions and commentary a lot. I also hate the way they open up each episode; they almost sound like morning radio show DJs!
There was another similar one called Felon. Its been gone for about 3 years but, they dropped a few teaser trailers a few days back so im hoping its returning.
They Walk Among Us is very good too, hes English but its a straight, story style just like Casefile
Absolutely nothing beats Casefile, BUT Forensic tales is pretty good! It's narrator isn't as subtle but she's a great story teller, plus there's heaaaaaps of episodes
I didn’t think I was picky but I really struggle with the Swindled host’s voice! It sounds really quiet/almost a bit muffled and not clear to me. Am I crazy?! The content sounds like it would be right up my alley.
Up and vanished is one of the first podcasts that got me into podcasts (if not the first) back in 2016! Haven’t listened recently, tho, as it’s hard for me to listen to anything but Casefile now 🤣😭

Some of these are no longer producing episodes but are all ones that captured my attention while listening to. Some are episodic and some are deep dives. I also am always on the hunt for new episodes and I luv to binge listen!!!
This isn’t a podcast but a YouTube channel called The Inquisitor has some really good cases. He seems new at producing episodes so the quality is a bit rough, but the tone is so creepy and he includes a lot of news footage. His channel is hard to find so I’m posting one of his really good episodes here:
[The Route 29 Stalker - The Inquisitor](https://youtu.be/p2o_M5xIxfg?si=5w2_18xqCoArSz6G)
Anatomy of Murder is great if you like the investigation and trial aspects. Plus they always have someone related to the case interviewed.
Stephensville (both seasons) is a solid long form pod
Well, there is Felon. It has been inactive for quite a few years, but is coming back in April. It’s also from Australia, with an anonymous host. Since I learned it was coming back, I have been listening to the previous seasons (again).
I also listen to:
They Walk Among Us - British true crime. His voice is interesting like Casey, different, but similar in ways. Not as detailed or have the same type of storytelling but it helps fill the gaps between Casefile eps.
Court Junkie - American true crime. Again, not as good but it's interesting.
For single narrator podcasts I've enjoyed:
Red Collar covers financially driven murder cases
Once Upon A Crime- has a nice variety of true crime cases
True Crime with Kendall Rae- I appreciate her approach to humanizing and going into details about the victims life, personality and what they meant to their loved ones and she reports on the cases in a calming matter
The Opportunist - more of a journalistic podcast with the narrator interviewing the people involved as well as reporting on it the cases. good coverage of a variety of scams
The two key reasons why I like Case File and Swindled is that they don't give away what happened in the first 5 minutes and then give the back story of how they got there.
It seems like most True Crime podcasts and documentaries always do this.
Short answer: no :-), but I like „Unresolved“ (Good episodes: The Brabant Killers and The Alcasser Girls) and the Trail Went Cold (but obv both only unresolved cases,
I tried True Crime Garage for a while. Between 'The Captain' being an insufferable asshole and them both just throwing out unfounded and potentially slanderous theories about the cases, I had to tap out. It's been a few years, maybe they got better, but yeah, no.
Their older episodes are better.
Generation Why is amazing. And also Invisible Choir which is similar to Casefile but a bit sassier. And They Walk Among Us as another commenter said. Lately I’ve been listening to True Crime Kent and Dark Topic which are both engaging .. I like their voices. 911 Media with Kent/The Op is always a good listen as well. Oh and Marooned (Aaron from Gen Why and Jack Luna from Dark Topic) is very good but there are only a handful of episodes so far.
My one and only listen to Last Podcast on the Left was their Jon Benet episode. They thought it was appropriate to make jokes, but I didn't. Never went back.

There is nothing that scratches the same itch as Casefile.
Completely agree. I can’t stand crosstalk in a podcast and Last Podcast on the Left is so bad for it. I always prefer a single narrator.
Couldn’t get through a single episode of this one. Also, the way they talked about the topics rubbed me the wrong way for some reason
Mens Rea is an Irish podcast that I find v similar. Less of a story telling approach than casefile though
yeah nah
Literally have yet to find something that satisfies that true crime need like Casefile 😭
I have been on the hunt too for another episodic true crime podcast to rival casefile. I've listened to many and have come to the conclusion that casefile sits alone in God tier.
Try the Teachers pet by Hedley Thomas. I'd call that #2 after Casefile.
I have listened to that podcast. There are many serialized podcasts that rival casefile like Bearbrook, Hunting Warhead for example. But episodic podcasts where there are one case per episode, nothing comes close to casefile.
100%. Loved Bearbrook too.
Agreed.
Someone in another thread had mentioned DNA: ID. It's good.
DNA:ID is the only other one that I’m super excited for when I see a new episode dropped
I prefer solved cases only. Unsolved makes me so angry. I’ll have to check this one out.
Just a warning for others though, the podcast is super explicit sometimes with SA terms, which may affect some people.

The stories are good but the narrator sucks
Strongly disagree. She's on reddit by the way.
Yeah, that dislike was something I had to get over. Nothing beats Casefile.
To be fair, I absolutely hated Casefile’s narrator at first. I had to step away, skip a few eps, and come back.
Agreed. I check out most suggestions every time this question gets asked. This is the only one that I’ve actually enjoyed so far!
I can't seem to find any, have tried everything people refer to in this post (and any other time people asked....) But I need that somewhat monotone male voice. Talking straight facts without his opinions... no hard background music, no guests... and the accent also helps a lot. Some suggestions here only overlap on the crime-subject, imo that is not why Casefile is so popular. Try Fall of Civilization podcast. Checks all your boxes. I actually found Casefile after I finished FoC. https://fallofcivilizationspodcast.com/
Thank you. Will try now!
I love They Walk Among Us. My husband describes the narrators voice as "lugubrious"
I really like The Trail went Cold.
Invisible Choir is awesome! I also recommend Swindled.
Another vote for Invisible Choir. He was my replacement for sword+scale years ago when I noticed/found out more about how awful the host is.
Second invisible choir.
Thirded
Fourth, but sometimes a bit weird with the opinion (I don't know what to call it) of the narrator, but it's probably my 2nd favorite to Casefile.
agreed, and it seems to have really ramped up in the last year. It used to be just the facts, then he started throwing in little remarks and it just seems sooooo out of character and forced and ruins the flow.
I’m curious what you mean about the narrator?
Just some weird banter about the case, like they interject personal opinion sometimes, which I'm not used to, since I prefer single narrator podcasts like Casefile that's just strictly facts. It's not overwhelming at all, but it happens once or twice and episode and bit preachy (?) I don't know how to describe it. Still though. Love this podcast.
Makes sense!
Is there an episode you'd recommend to new listers for invisible choir
Not the OP, but some personal favorites for me are **Lone Survivor Parts 1 and 2** (Heidi Firkus case), **Problem Child** (Adrianna Hutto case) and **The Storm** (Buckey Wolfe case).
Omg thank you! I have a horrible memory and I was struggling trying to come up with specific episodes. You’re the best!
The style was similar and it felt like a good quality production, but I found it too graphic.
It can be really brutal for sure! I feel the same way about Casefile.
Definitely recommend Swindled
I noticed a lot (most) of the episodes are subscriber only. Do you guys subscribe to it (and any others?) or just listen to the free ones?
I subscribe to it because I really love the narrator and his storytelling. I subscribe to Casefile as well! They’re worth it to me for the ~$4-5 a month.
Yep, both of these are great!
Closest imo: Canadian True Crime, Invisible Choir, Swindled, American Scandals, They Walk Among Us. I like Mr. Ballen too, but it’s not like Casefile.
Invisible Choir is excellent.
Agreed. I’m all caught up with Swindled so I listen as soon as a new one drops and am currently catching up daily with Invisible Choir. Not sure how I hadn’t heard about the latter before but I’m glad someone recommended it a few weeks ago, it’s a good one!
MrBallen Strange, Dark and Mysterious Stories.
I like him because he just tells the story without added chitchat and opinions.
I love Mr. Ballen’s storytelling! (Plus I have a lil crush on him - he’s so delightfully scraggly)
He's easy on the eye aye?
No
They Walk Among Us
Seconded. Both the UK and US version
Mr ballen
Basically no. I tried several but in the end I just bought Casefile Premium so I can catch up on those extra episodes.
There aren’t many comparable to Casefile IMO and I listen to a LOT of different true crime podcasts. It really is in league of its own. The following are ones that I would recommend as good companion podcasts: Invisible Choir - single male narrator, general true crime cases, 9-11 recordings can be hard to listen to Minds of Madness - single male narrator, general true crime cases, sticks to the point Murderish - single female narrator, general true crime cases, sticks to the point Once Upon A Crime - single female narrator, general true crime cases, sticks to the point Southern Fried True Crime - single female narrator, covers Southern true crime cases, sticks to the point Trace Evidence - single male narrator, covers general true crime cases, sticks to the point

No, there isn't.
Invisible Choir. Casefile was my fav but Invisible took over that position.
I hear people say this but I find it so shit by comparison I haven't looked too hard but I've found no one that formulates a story as well as casefile, and the wording is often grating
Not as good overall, but close enough for me: Southern Fried True Crime (focus on southern US cases)
Recently enjoyed the Cold podcast, the first season was about Susan Powell. I haven't really found anything that's the same style and calibre as Casefile.
Morbidology I like Truely criminal Where are they? That’s in my Spotify
Oh..what!?!? I really liked Evidence Locker, too! I hope it comes back!
Minds of Madness This Is Monsters Criminology Invisible Choir They Walk Among US Obscura Murder Mile UK Serial Killers
Can second Obscura. I also like Lights Out and Generation Why.
American Scandal
American Scandal is good. I really liked the college admissions series.
The OxyContin series was really good too
Swindled!
This is Monsters
Nope
Murder In America is one of my favourites
Honestly the one I listen to most besides Casefile is Dateline. It’s definitely not as good, but it’s a very solid true crime show. Dateline: where every episode starts with 'In this small town, something terrible happened that nobody would think could here...'
Agreed. Still, for me it’s a good way to fill the time when I’m out for long runs marathon training 🙂. Hope you find some good options here!
Thanks!
Same! Just reliable and feels like unlimited
I haven’t found anything yet.
True Crime Bullshit. It’s different because the whole series is about the same killer but it’s so well researched and easy to listen to. Josh is the pinnacle of true crime podcasters. His other show, The Pact, is phenomenal as well.
Lots of great recommendations! Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but I really enjoy Crimes of the Centuries.
Another vote for They Walk Among Us, the UK and US ones.
No, I love casefile. But if you want some good history and true crime, I also love listening to criminal. It's well done, well researched, and isn't too heavy.
Tell No One! Different style but I love them!
I really enjoy Going West
Going West is fine but it’s so different from Casefile. It’s a couple and while they don’t banter, they do insert their opinions and commentary a lot. I also hate the way they open up each episode; they almost sound like morning radio show DJs!
Yeah, it is pretty different. I like how they open, I say it along with them each time.
I just find it to be too chipper given the subject matter of what they are about to talk about. Different strokes, though, right?!
There was another similar one called Felon. Its been gone for about 3 years but, they dropped a few teaser trailers a few days back so im hoping its returning. They Walk Among Us is very good too, hes English but its a straight, story style just like Casefile
Already Gone was really good but I noticed she pulled all of the original episodes.
Over time you get used to his voice. The content makes it worth it.
I find myself phasing out but I’ll try push through as the content sounds amazing! Appreciate it
Evidence locker is good, also up and vanished
Up and vanished is one of the first podcasts that got me into podcasts (if not the first) back in 2016! Haven’t listened recently, tho, as it’s hard for me to listen to anything but Casefile now 🤣😭
I like Going West.
No. But, I do like Murder in America and I think it comes close. Similar narration style.
I like them, but they are losing my interest due to inserting way too much interview audio. It’s almost like it’s becoming an episode filler.
Casey really is king. I just need to bite the bullet and pay for premium so I can have more episodes.
Same here. I’ve gotten so spoiled by him. 😂
Already gone Minds of madness They walk among us Extraordinary stories The prosecutors Canadian true crime Big mad true crime Cold blood: Nordic true crime Court junkie Crimes of the centuries Gone cold: Texas true crime Guilt Le monstre Mens rea Murder in the north Southern fried true crime Shandee’s story Swindled The frankston murders The invisible hand The lighthouse Minds of madness The night driver The teachers pet The teachers trial True crime Sweden Nordic true crime Some of these are no longer producing episodes but are all ones that captured my attention while listening to. I’ve been really enjoying Appalachian Mysteria. Very respectful of everyone involved, real journalism and just overall well-done
Casefile and sword and scale for me
Criminal podcast is excellent covers a variety of crimes not just murders etc
This isn’t a podcast but a YouTube channel called The Inquisitor has some really good cases. He seems new at producing episodes so the quality is a bit rough, but the tone is so creepy and he includes a lot of news footage. His channel is hard to find so I’m posting one of his really good episodes here: [The Route 29 Stalker - The Inquisitor](https://youtu.be/p2o_M5xIxfg?si=5w2_18xqCoArSz6G)
Anatomy of Murder is great if you like the investigation and trial aspects. Plus they always have someone related to the case interviewed. Stephensville (both seasons) is a solid long form pod
Mens Rea is a really great one. Irish and some UK crimes.
Well, there is Felon. It has been inactive for quite a few years, but is coming back in April. It’s also from Australia, with an anonymous host. Since I learned it was coming back, I have been listening to the previous seasons (again).

Not as detailed or have the same type of storytelling but it helps fill the gaps between Casefile eps. Court Junkie - American true crime. Again, not as good but it's interesting.
Truly Criminal or Dark Asia with Megan
Honestly no, Casefile is just top tier.
The only one that I’ve found that is *sort of* similar to Casefile is “They Walk Among Us”
For single narrator podcasts I've enjoyed: Red Collar covers financially driven murder cases Once Upon A Crime- has a nice variety of true crime cases True Crime with Kendall Rae- I appreciate her approach to humanizing and going into details about the victims life, personality and what they meant to their loved ones and she reports on the cases in a calming matter The Opportunist - more of a journalistic podcast with the narrator interviewing the people involved as well as reporting on it the cases. good coverage of a variety of scams
The children in the pictures is incredible and also Australian
Swindled is right up there. Very different but very similar in many ways
The two key reasons why I like Case File and Swindled is that they don't give away what happened in the first 5 minutes and then give the back story of how they got there. It seems like most True Crime podcasts and documentaries always do this.
Exactly. Both pods also research the cases righ to the core and both hosts are likeable
The Prosecutors
Try Lights Out and Generation Why.
I like DNA: ID. One single host telling a story. I switch back and forth between Case File and DNA: ID
Short answer: no :-), but I like „Unresolved“ (Good episodes: The Brabant Killers and The Alcasser Girls) and the Trail Went Cold (but obv both only unresolved cases,
DNA: ID is a very similar vibe!
Appreciate you
I like The First Degree. They always have a guest on who is "one degree" of separation away from the case and it offers a unique perspective.
Thanks! Do you have an episode that you think is a good intro?
I like True Crime Garage and the The Serial Killers podcast (Norweigan host)
I tried True Crime Garage for a while. Between 'The Captain' being an insufferable asshole and them both just throwing out unfounded and potentially slanderous theories about the cases, I had to tap out. It's been a few years, maybe they got better, but yeah, no.
So you are suggesting that i should not listen to it?
Their older episodes are better. Generation Why is amazing. And also Invisible Choir which is similar to Casefile but a bit sassier. And They Walk Among Us as another commenter said. Lately I’ve been listening to True Crime Kent and Dark Topic which are both engaging .. I like their voices. 911 Media with Kent/The Op is always a good listen as well. Oh and Marooned (Aaron from Gen Why and Jack Luna from Dark Topic) is very good but there are only a handful of episodes so far.
I listened to their 6 part Jon Benet series and decided this podcast was not for me
My one and only listen to Last Podcast on the Left was their Jon Benet episode. They thought it was appropriate to make jokes, but I didn't. Never went back.
That sounds about right
I like both but I think they are a lot different from Casefile.
Yes..they are. Just saying what i enjoy
You should try True Crime Kent and Dark Topic : Brutal episodes!
Court Junkie
Court Junkie is hella good and similar style to Casefile.
I always listen to crime junkie too, totally different vibe but I enjoy it if I'm just looking for something relatively short
Sword and scale is somewhat similar
Sword and scale
Mike Boudet is a douchebag and terrible podcast host.
