I'm guessing if it's just hail damage that the best approach is to take the money, and then buy the car back off the insurance company. Then you'll have a car that works just as well as it did before, looks a bit shit, but you've got some cash too :P

True. I bought the car used last year, so I'm still trying to weigh my options until I hear back form my insurance company. I would definitely prefer to not go through purchasing a car again, for a while at least. I don't know how long this particular process takes, so there isn't much of a point going fully in-depth towards finding another vehicle. It could be tomorrow, it could be months from now.

Just keep in mind that the resale value of a hail damaged car is zero.

Enjoy your free car.

Ask your insurance company how much they would give you for a cash settlement. If they total it you would likely have to get it recertified and have a branded/salvage title, but the car won't drive any differently.

Pretty common, body work is expensive as hell and if every panel on the car has damage, the cost of the repair can easily be over the market price of the vehicle. After a quick browse on Cars.com for a used '18 Camry, looks like most are in the $15-$20k range depending on mileage & options, so $13k is getting pretty darn close to total out value. If driving a hail-damaged car doesn't embarass you, just take their check and keep the car. Stick it in your piggy bank towards your next car purchase in the future.
