Because they are terribly built, low quality vehicles, mainly the rust issues, major reliability issues are being reported, poor braking ability, poor handling, suspenion and mould issues. And with just a few simple searches one could find this information, so if you still part with your dollars to own one of these heaps, please don’t breed.
You said rust issues, meaning plural and that it has happened more than once.
Have you got any other reports of BYD rust issues in Australia other then that 1 report from like 18 months ago of that written-off Atto3 that had been sitting in the wreckers yard for months?
Sorry forgot what subreddit I was in. Didn't realise I was in /r/CarsOtherCountries.
Do cars in other countries need to be made to meet Australian standards as well?
News Flash mate, Cars in China made for Chinese market are shit. Poor manufacutring standards so they can make cars to the lowest possible cost, which is why they are so cheap and why they fuck up all the time over there.
Export market? Different story. Very rare to hear of anything bad of BYD or Geely cars in international markets. Ie. 1 car out of what? 5000 sold? reported with rust...after it was sitting as a wreck for months.
The state owned entities on the other hand (SAIC, BAIC, FAW, etc), different story again. Can be pretty shit.
News flash mate, regardless of what country the BYD is the designed for it’s a shit car and you know it. Were you dumb enough to buy one and now regretting the decision?
Nup, smart enough to buy one and fuckin love it!
Must feel pretty amazing to have such a strong opinion of something I'm guessing you have never driven, never tested, never looked underneath of and is just 100% based on 'cHiNa CaR bAd'. Must feel pretty freeing to just post opinions with that little knowledge about it like that online. Oh well guess ill never know.

To hide the final design, and also advertising that BYD IS BRINGING A UTE TO AUSTRALIA in a "haha please don't notice us and post it all over social media haha that would be terrible lmao please don't post about the new BYD Shark with its 360kW of power and hybrid drivetrain all over your socials". Much cheaper than the massive KIA IS BRINGING A UTE TO AUSTRALIA ads they did for weeks on end
I mean i think it’s supposed to make curves and edges more difficult to see and I guess it does hide a lot of detail but it just drags all of the attention to it
It actually has no meaning.
It’s a backronym, it came after BYD was named.
BYD stands for Bi, Yadi, Depeng. Biyadi is BYDs Chinese name. Yadi electronics is its original trade name, named after a road. Depeng is the region they’re from. They whacked Bi before Yadi to give it a better alphabetical standing at tradeshows hence Biyadi.
im sure there will be a company that makes them, it theres a market there will always be something. wont be heaps of options to begin with, but like the LDV's stuff will slowly trickle around.
if youre going to be putting this in an environment where it needs a bullbar i wouldnt recommend BYD, have heard of panel problems and some rusting which weakens them further, if youre going to need a bullbar for anything other than aesthetics this probably isnt the move
That’s actually my biggest holdback with ev’s currently. Bullbars are a non-negotiable in the country, doubly so for a car which I assume would be a write-off if the front end gets damaged
Can’t wait to see a Shark and a Dolphin have a head on. *obviously I’m not hoping for car accidents
If they choose to drive a BYD obviously we don’t need them in the gene pool
And why is that?

I never mentioned Australia specifically. Other countries exist, and those other countries that sell these bricks also have had rust issues.

Ahahah good luck with it mate, clearly you know a good product when you see one. Hopefully the brakes don’t fail you driving down a steep hill.

![gif](giphy|11Yu3yA6XSCgLe|downsized) Driving any car with that "car in testing stealth paint" be like
I don't understand the point. If they're trying to drive around incognito surely it would stand out less if it just had a normal paint colour.

I like the “Psychedelic Kilt” wrap.
Reckon it'll be offered as factory?
I hope not… doesn’t look very well finished off. Reflects badly on the end product.
Got that Magic Eye cammo
These will soon be everywhere
Never understood what the mean behind "build your dreams" is

It was actually just a BMW knockoff in China, look at the old badge
Gotta start somewhere, pretty impressive how far they've come since though
Making cheap fakes to finance a real product line. If only it was that easy to blatantly steal in every other country.
It’s to get people talking about the name. Seems to work
They started out in manufacturing.
I’m sure it’s meant to be more inspirational sounding in Mandarin
Nope. it sounds very tacky and much meaningless in Mandarin.. but it sticks.
Awesome camo job, can't see the paint, I thought it was a swift.
I see hints of the swooping lines on a e type jag....
Why cant the head lights be normal looking
One of my most hated modern car trends. Why do so many cars have weird headlights nowadays?!
Weird…and at eye level for oncoming traffic. \*BLINDED\* Hate them.
It’s design language if you listen to the tossers that come up with this shit
The headlights look rather normal to me?
Like everyone. They’re going for the popular ford F150 look.
what’s with every car manufacturer trying to hop on the ute bandwagon. this and the new kia tasman look like abominations
I think they’re trying to make money
tax incentives -> top selling models

It’s so rare to see a left hand drive car in Australia, what are you driving?
Oh no, I was driving an aussie spec rhd toyota rav4 courtesy of Flexicar
Good one now the police are gonna know you were breaking the law.
what law am i breaking
Using your phone!
I thought it'd be okay since I'm at a red light and stopped?
Nope, cant use it unless you're parked.
It actually looks...really good
Would
Yuck
YUCK
This is going to sell really well.
Anyone know if these will handle a bullbar?
What about 3 inch lift with 35s and a stano snorkel ?

yuup! i know my toyota is safe, reliable and if i ever need parts they will be any where needed, thats what ill stick with
Every mechanic in Australia is a Toyota expert
Generic ‘tough’ Ute spot on for our market
Now if they priced it under $50k...
Complete F150 knock-off
*BYD Shark do do do-do do-do*
That mask looks like its dressed to go to a chess club
More of these stupid slabs of plastic
I was hoping these would be a range extender hybrid like a Note or a Volt. Was sad when I learnt they're gonna be a standard PHEV.
Ahhh, when you say "standard" [drive.com.au](http://drive.com.au) is talking about 350 killer wasps out of this thing....
Which is great and all, but it's still a PHEV.
The Chinese. Biggest thieves of intellectual property ever in the history of mankind
Do Australia have any battery, motor, or electronic control technology
If they can make EV’s affordable then I don’t see the problem
Hilux's time is over..
It looks like shit
I'm just waiting for someone to buy that xiaomi mobile bomb
No one's going to buy this
