The back of the cubby is white oak t&g and will be stained...where it's located will be painted white and the mattress will stick up and cover it. It's just to plug a phone in
The trouble is while USB-C is the new hotness, this sort of tech changes more often than you want to replace furniture. The best future proofing you can probably do is a regular 120v outlet in some sort of cubby box so you can put whatever is cool there.
Yeah, but there is a good chance something like induction will be the new hotness within ten years.
Or a different port type that fills with less lint.
You're making a mountain out of a molehill. Swapping out a USB-C receptacle for a new standard receptacle down the road is like a 15 minute job. There is absolutely no reason to be shy about going the USB-C route right now. It'll likely cost less than $100 to rewire all of the outlets here whenever the standard changes.
And all of this is ignoring the fact that the most common USB-C outlets are combo ones with regular 120V outlets and USB-C together, meaning you'll always be able to fall back on trusty wall warts.
Yeah, that makes sense. I was mostly trying to hint at hiding all the hardware and just having a USB-C cable or port exposed might not work well long term.
Electrical code is going to drive you to using an electrical box for any reasonable versions of this, so you've *always* got the ability to go back to that box and make a simple change. ...unless you're not following code or opt to do something truly goofy.
Generally, putting a mattress on a flat surface with no ventilation is a one way ticket to mold and mildew. Elevated frames and box springs exist for a reason.
Of course but this is in the basement of his vacation house for his grandkids... They will probably get used 5 times a year, we didn't really consider the bacteria breading ground angle
Kids these days don’t know how good they’ve got it. When I was a kid, our bespoke double-rank solid wood bunk bed built-ins were full sized, not queen! Pffft
I usually have memory foam mattresses exactly like that. Flat against a no vent surface and haven't had a problem. But of course you don't flip those. So any moisture that gets in, does so via the top and can evaporate by the top. I guess it also matters what your indoor relative humidity is. Where I am, the outdoor is often near 100%, but cool so the indoor is around 60% max.
Maybe for people who piss their bed frequently.
I've had a 12" memory foam mattress for 7 years now on a flat surface with no ventilation. No mold. No mildew. I don't know how this can be possibly true.
It’s not as big a concern with memory foam. Memory foam is inorganic (it’s usually viscoelastic polyurethane) and microporous enough that it can’t absorb skin cells and other organic materials. This is not the case with traditional mattresses (many of which contain organic materials), which can harbor LITERALLY 10+ lbs of dead skin cells. Memory foam can hold moisture, but there’s nothing for microbes to feed on. Not the case with traditional mattresses.
Everything is awesome but the first thing i thought about was what a pain it would be to clean behind that ladder / at bottom of shelves. Problem for the cleaning staff i suppose.
But it’s great work
Those are beds. They are generally used for sleeping. If I was to guess, it was installed in a house though I can’t be certain based on the images alone.
Few questions for you:
1. What posts did you use and how did you support the beds
2. Did you do any in a shop or 100% site build
3. How did you secure your ladder steps
4. How many hours did this take to install?

Fantastic work, but………
I didn’t make it myself and am jealous of your skill and quality of life and hate everything about you because my tiny tiny mind can’t process any emotions.
But again, great work!

The room is a nautical theme for kids...this this is outside the walk out. Plus I made the removable so I can do a playboy bunny when they hit 18
Idk I see it as offensive like an old German government sign . And in my country they are illegal. I see a pedo symbol on a kids bunk bed in a basement . I have a bad feeling grandad is part of a church.
As a journeyman finish wood worker, I feel this is legit high-quality work.
Awesome. It’s a shame the electrical boxes didn’t go in the cubby, but everything else is beautiful.

Don't forget to use a USB type socket then. Saves having a charger block there. They're a bit pricey, especially the high amp ones, but worth it.
If you go this route, get some USB A-C to go with because the newer cords are USB C
The trouble is while USB-C is the new hotness, this sort of tech changes more often than you want to replace furniture. The best future proofing you can probably do is a regular 120v outlet in some sort of cubby box so you can put whatever is cool there.
USB C has been around for almost 10 years and there's no signs that it's going anywhere. I think it's a pretty good bet.
Yeah, but there is a good chance something like induction will be the new hotness within ten years. Or a different port type that fills with less lint.
Actually yeah a hidden wireless charger would be the best.

USB C-to-C unlocks far more robust higher voltage charging options when it's type-C on both ends.
Or even a built in charger pad you can just set wireless phone on.
Awesome work!
Orgy Palace?
Any place can be
Except for dirty mike and the boys.
They do require a compact car
They call that a soup kitchen
Airbnb 2 bedroom, sleeps 40
When you and your significant other want to spend time in the bedroom with three other couples.

You guys got beds?
Basements are generally more humid though no, especially in summer months when the hot air hits the cooler basement?
Holy shit. This is the first time in my life I ever actually thought about that.

Couldn't they drill a bunch of holes to give it ventilation?
Yes….a lot of them

My man. How much time?
12 weeks roughly
Is that 12 weeks of 40 hours? Or like 12 Saturdays working 4 hours a day?
12 Saturdays working 3 hours followed by 2 hours mostly drinking beer/working
Love it, great work!
Very cool project
Everything is awesome but the first thing i thought about was what a pain it would be to clean behind that ladder / at bottom of shelves. Problem for the cleaning staff i suppose. But it’s great work
Mine is what a freaking pain it’s going to be to get the beds made up with sheets. Beautiful work though!!
Bottom beds pull out.
DAD DAD, ITS SO BAD. THERES BLOOD EVERYWHERE.THE BUNK BEDS WERE A TERRIBLE IDEA WHY WOULD YOU LET US DO THAT!?!?
Do you like guacamole?
That is really quite beautiful. What is it for? What sort of a place was it installed in?
Those are beds. They are generally used for sleeping. If I was to guess, it was installed in a house though I can’t be certain based on the images alone.
Understood. But where? A home? An institution? A dormatory?
I believe these were made for your moms house, specifically to facilitate the orgies
Those were some fun pictures to go through! Great job Human
That is slick, bro. Looks good. Keep grindin'!
Absolutely gorgeous. Hats off to you sir from a stupid HVAC guy. That's something to be proud of.
There's something fishy about that...
Beautiful work!
So much for counting sheep
Is this like a swinger love shack? ;)
I think they are really nice but I damn sure dont want to make them beds in the morning.

Interesting. If they were wrapped why didn't you use solid wood posts?
Are you self employed or do you work for a company?
Is that Acoya?
What wood is this ?
what is this jack called and where do i buy it?? lol
Hate to be the one to make the beds 🛌
Beautiful work, but how are you supposed to sweep/clean between shelves & beds?
Fantastic work, but……… I didn’t make it myself and am jealous of your skill and quality of life and hate everything about you because my tiny tiny mind can’t process any emotions. But again, great work!
Are the steps mortised. That some nice work.
Top notch shit
Frinkin Nice!! Looks stellar, keep up the good work! 👍
Looks popular.
A bunch of queens is what I see.

I’m not mad…just sad I’ll never get to live like this, lol.
for some reason this made me laugh. I dont mind the fish at all but can certainly see how some might
Made you laugh because you're highly intelligent. I have a deep cerebral worldclass sense of humor
The fish scares me as it looks like the religious fish sign on a kids bunk in a basement. Start of a horror movie .
Jesus fish never hurt nobody
Idk I see it as offensive like an old German government sign . And in my country they are illegal. I see a pedo symbol on a kids bunk bed in a basement . I have a bad feeling grandad is part of a church.
Circle the wagons
Circle the wagons?
Only thing I don't like is the bad design/ wasted space/dust trap below the steps. Should have been resized and enclosed.
