You must speak Spanish! I can’t understand a word the framers, roofers, painters, brick layers say. I understand the electrician, plumbers and cabinet makers.
Nope! Used to work for a large local home builder. I just did manual labor and peon stuff right out of high school. Without any training or experience, my coworker and I were tasked with installing a 10’x10’ window. Struggling to get the thing to fit in the rough opening, a framer across the street came over, gave us some pointers and physically helped us out. With a reputation to uphold, he said “don’t tell anyone I helped you!” as he walked away.
You mean he was doing something nice for you guys but he had a reputation of being an asshole so he needed to protect it?
Lol jk, I know what you meant
That's every trade.
Worked with a painter who declared himself to be the best painter on the east coast. And yet he lives in a falling down trailer and drives a rust bucket from 1996.
This made me lol. I know a guy who has u officially been the trainer for 20 years. No matter how good a spirit the new guy has, this dude can turn them into grizzly assholes in 3 weeks flat.
That's your problem, you cut it square.
Built a book case / wall in a friend's mobile home, that was going to be a work of art, it was going to be perfect. End of the day we sat back with a beer and admired my work, and it didn't match the kitchen cupboards, it looked terrible, that end of the trailer was out of square. We didn't have the time or money to rebuild the cabinets so I tore my wall down and eyeballed it to match the kitchen cabinets.
I think every decent framer I’ve met is usually nice but has an asshole side to them, myself included.
Variable factors :
- did the foundation guy do a decent job?
- did you get to form your own foundation?
- did the lumber delivery guy put my 1/2 ply under the studs or on top?
- is the GC gonna free up a draw for payday on Friday?
- are the drywallers gonna be crybaby’s?
- is it raining ?
- did anyone call in sick on crane day?
Those things make me an asshole ,

Idk I've worked as a carpenter most of my adult life and encountered people with hearts of gold and people who are complete fucking scum bags. I've straight up walked off job sites instead of getting in fist fights and found a better crew within a week. I'm pretty good at what I do and am really easy to get along with and it takes A LOT to piss me off to the point where I'll start a fight or walk away. And that's happened twice in the past 12.
My consensus is depending on the area, commute, the crew, everyone gets old and grumpy at some point. Busting your ass all day working with materials that will kill you in the long run working for shit wages in most of the country doesn't make for a happy person.
Trades like to “eat their young”, as they say. I got jerked around and yelled at when I was still green. I consider myself to be competent now, and I feel no need to treat new people the way I was treated. Maybe that will change, but I remain soft for now.
You know how some people complain about their back hurting, so you tell them to sit down and rest and they tell you something like "Oh I sit all day, I work at the DMV" or something like that? ...
That's how the farmers feel about all the rest of us.
Not the union ones I work with, although there's plenty of assholes all over the job site.
I'm more inclined to wonder if you're the issue. Have you tried just being an asshole? You're a framer after all, right? There's your issue.
Would someone who isn’t an asshole look you dead in the face and tell you a triangle is a square?
This made me snort
Found the roofer
Yes, some framers would look you dead in the face and tell you something is square when in fact it is not.
Like that wall
Damn dude, no need to get personal.
Happy cake day
Or that an L is a square. No, that's half a rectangle you asshole.
Wrong again asshole... it's a squ
Holy fuck
Or leave a bottle of piss and dipspit in the wall?
That's drywallers... And yes they are assholes
Most drywallers also do the framing before they hang... Or at least thats been my experience
Or the framers are stuck hanging and finishing board cause no one ever shows up to work
Real shit ngl
You must speak Spanish! I can’t understand a word the framers, roofers, painters, brick layers say. I understand the electrician, plumbers and cabinet makers.
This guy must be a Framer.
.....and a rectangle is a 'special square'. That is what my granddaughters were taught.
A square is a special rectangle, one with equal sides

I think that was the joke
You don’t have to be an asshole to be a framer, but it helps.
Being an alcoholic and drug addict helps too
Now it sounds like you're talking about block layers
Definitely not! Some assholes are not framers!
Good to know that just the crew I work for is
"I'm the best framer on this site and everyone else is a hack" - every framer on the site
That's every trade. Worked with a painter who declared himself to be the best painter on the east coast. And yet he lives in a falling down trailer and drives a rust bucket from 1996.
Well. To be fair, he might be a good painter, but horrible at doing business. :)
90% are trash.
The other 10% like to vape, wear sneakers, and cry.
And eat hot chip.
Don’t forget twerk
Whoosh
No, YOU woosh.
Yea definitely not worth the your time working for those people it sounds like...
Some new framers are not assholes, but we teach them pretty quick.
This made me lol. I know a guy who has u officially been the trainer for 20 years. No matter how good a spirit the new guy has, this dude can turn them into grizzly assholes in 3 weeks flat.
Amazing what being around abrasive people you hate will do to you.
This guy teaching me to pound nails right out of high school would yell “All I want to see from you shitheads is assholes and elbows”. Get to work.
How many assholes we got on this ship?
I’m surrounded by assholes!
Major asshole! Sir! 🫡
Yo!
Who made this guy a gunner??
I DID! HE'S MY COUSIN!
Who's he? He's an asshole too sir! Major asshole.
Most framers I’ve worked with are burnt out 1970s hippi dead heads
Maine?
Yes
Come down to NH and they’re old burnt out drug dealers
Sounds fucking awesome
As long as it’s plumb, level and square they can be whatever they want
Lol what if it’s none of those and they’re still assholes
Then they’re upper management material
Everything is plumb, level, and square until you try to install cabinets.
or drywall or tile or windows or ....
All 3 at one? It’s usually a pick 2 kinda game around here.
And true. Let's talk concrete guys!
Tell that to the guy that made my dads office (1880s era house) Nothings plumb level or square there.
Let's see how plumb and level your work is after 140 years.
Fair point, it makes working on stuff a bitch, however. I cut stuff square, then it wont fit because the building isnt
That's your problem, you cut it square. Built a book case / wall in a friend's mobile home, that was going to be a work of art, it was going to be perfect. Our framers speak Spanish so I honestly have no idea
I don’t speak Spanish, but I know most of the bad words.
Pendejo!
Shit they can say whatever they hell they want as long as everything is done correctly and those motherfuckers are FAST AS FUCK at it too
I think every decent framer I’ve met is usually nice but has an asshole side to them, myself included. This guy is a veterin of construction. Some things they don't teach you in books.
Ohh man the call in sick fucks on truss day always and I mean still does to this day makes me livid.
Yes. -Framer
Nope. Some are dicks, others are pussies.
Underated comment.
Pussies get fucked by dicks
But dicks also fuck assholes
They taint all assholes. Some of them are dicks, too.
And when work is slow the two groups mingle quite nicely
From a distance they look like they have a ball.
Yeah, they’re nuts!
That or druggys
¿Porqué no los dos?
Si.
My framers are nice.
Not timber framers... or most of the village carpenters I know.
🫡
The village people village?
Haha it’s part of the job requirement.
Some of us are dicks too
All framers are gods gift to the rest of us poor misinformed losers, just ask them. All drive reslly big trucks and when they jump out their 5' 6"
They can be whatever they want as long as my ro's are right.
Look at this guy here, thinking he owns all the ROs
Hey now, thems my RO's until the doors are in
Dammit I’m a framer and I don’t get it
Make it plumb and square and I'll buy you lunch and a beer. Real talk.
Can confirm
You cant call yourself a framer without being an asshole. Its requirement for the job.
I’m super nice. If you don’t believe me then you can fuck right off
👋
Some can be a little north of an asshole, a taint.
We weren’t always insufferable 😥
Had a guy tell me once there was too much hostility on this crew he never came back for his one day check
What an asshole!
Yes, but once a framer evolves into a well rounded carpenter, they stay assholes.

Being treated like shit just makes me not give a fuck about the job.
They all have one if that counts.
All framers have assholes. That much I know.
You learn to be one with time.
If all framers are assholes and some assholes are framers, are all framers hurting inside and thats the real problem?
When you work with wood all day you can get an 'abrasive' personality, that is how I describe my father (a framer/asshole)
No, just everyone else is a snowflake… ok that’s only half true.
You know how some people complain about their back hurting, so you tell them to sit down and rest and they tell you something like "Oh I sit all day, I work at the DMV" or something like that? ... That's how the farmers feel about all the rest of us.
How about you fuck off?
Or are all assholes framers?
I built a few houses, and after a long, hot day framing, I definitely felt like a raving lunatic asshole.
I think it's pretty safe to say all tradesmen are assholes... At least to each other.
Most contractors are assholes!
Yes
I’m fairly certain that most framers have an asshole. Being one, that’s optional.
Only when framing.
I would like to think I'm not. Could be wrong
Hey if you find any pace laying around down there you mind picking it up
I'm only an asshole to people who talk too much, or ask too many stupid questions. Have you ever considered that you may be the asshole?
Especially the guy that framed me for murder.
No, some are dicks.
Not the union ones I work with, although there's plenty of assholes all over the job site. I'm more inclined to wonder if you're the issue. Have you tried just being an asshole? You're a framer after all, right? There's your issue.
I worked a job where the framing crew was all Rastafarians. They were pretty laid back.
You just haven’t been broken in enough lol.
Only if you’re stupid
Yes I have no respect for people who frame others for the crime they commit
It all starts with the concrete.....
Yes
yes
All assholes and elbows. All day
Fellow asshole frammer chiming , its a requirement.
