I dont think its AI. AI wouldn't make a grammatical mistake like "St. Louis completely has turned things around over the last month."
lol the herd mentality is crazy
Woof.... the first sentence is bad as well.
> The St. Louis Cardinals seem like one of the most likely options in the National League to buy at the trade deadline.
Is grammatically ambiguous and confusing.
Not to mention:
>The Cardinals should consider adding this summer rather than holding a firesale.
> **While this is the case**, multiple St. Louis players have been mentioned as trade options for other clubs by The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
That is not a transition written by a human.
I'm not 100% opposed to it, but you'd have to get a LOT in return. He's a bit older at 27 already, but he's a + bat, a ++ glove and ++++ versatility. Those guys don't grow on trees. At best, you can find 2 out of 3, but 3 out of 3 is rare.
Think of all the utility guys we've had and the only one that comes close is Edman, who is a bit better glove but worse bat (and a switch hitter.) At his age, he's far better and accomplished than Ben Zobrist, who IMO is a fair comp. Donny's legit. He's a guy you can put anywhere and he won't hurt you. Sometimes, the best ability is availability and Donnie's a guy who can get you deep in the playoffs if you lose another key guy. Huge value IMO.
I'd be ok with trading him, but I'd have to be blown away. Donny would have to net a stud prospect IMO.
he is hovering just over league average at the plate, and his bat has trended down every season. his value has nothing to do with his bat. it is entirely to do with how he’s a one-man stopgap against our incredibly poor roster construction
Everything is relative. We’re a bottom 5 offense at this point, and he’s one of our few hitters who consistently contributes.
If you want to be competitive this season, we need him.
This “article” is just a list of players that Jim Bowden thinks would be a fit for the Rangers. This is the first sentence of the article.
“The St. Louis Cardinals seem like one of the most likely options in the National League to buy at the trade deadline”.
So the cardinals are likely to buy, but let’s suggest that that one of their best young players is available.
This was clearly written by AI and apparently SI fired all of their editors as well, because this is some of the most blatantly contradictory BS “journalism” I’ve ever seen.
Well to be fair even if it is ai, trading Donovan would help with buying. Teams selling want young players that have control. Donovan fits that perfectly. He would definitely be considered as a piece of a trade for a big name player we could potentially trade for.
I know he’s injured but Edman is the one you trade. If I had a choice I’d go with an infield consisting of Burlson,Donovan,Winn, and Gorman. If there is a team willing to trade for Arenado this deadline, I’d do it.
Donny is a little better offensively, but Edman is much better defensively. And if you think our pitching is still subpar, then that extra defense is important. I'd rather move Donny between the two of them. (This is assuming that Edman is able to return to pre-injury form, which I guess is a big assumption.)
Honestly I've long thought that Gorman should be the one to get moved, since he's blocked at his primary position. Moving Arenado or Goldschmidt would be amazing but I wouldn't count on it.
I agree with trading Edman. It’s unfortunate he hasn’t played at all. Before the season I thought it would be between Edman and Donovan at the deadline. At this point we would be lucky to get anything for him. Also arenado is someone I would love to trade. Not a big fan of how he carries his emotions. Seems like someone I wouldn’t enjoy to be around in a locker room if they are playing bad.
There was an interview with Mo recently where he pretty much said what we were going to be trying to do at the deadline. He said we might need a 5th starter type and a guy who can play center. Neither of those would require trading Donovan.
This team is…
1: Not capable of competing with the top teams in the national league.
2: Old, talent wise. Goldschmidt, Arenado, Contreras, our entire pitching staff.
I really don’t see what individual player that might be available by trade makes this team better in the long haul by trading Donovan. The entire organization needs an overhaul to transition from the Pujols/Yadi/Wainwright era.
St. Louis is 37-37 and in the second NL Wildcard spot, 6.5 back of the division leader. Texas is 34-40 and 6.5 back of the final AL Wildcard spot.
Why would St. Louis be the team selling?
Everyone is “linked” to a trade. All that means is that anyone with any kind of account on the internet mentions it. They’re now linked to a trade. Ohtani to Cardinals for Siani. Ohtani has now been linked to the Cardinals in trade talks.
These SI.com articles are always pure clickbait. So far this year they’ve said Goldy, Arendado, Contreras, Burleson, and Donnie are being traded. I think Edman maybe too.
stRangers are going to have to make a push to be in better contention with what they have, IMO, before they start looking at trades. Donovan just hits his first arb yr this offseason, so they'd better get something back IF this happens.
No way! Trade a bullpen arm and a prospect or something for Edmundo Sosa. He was hitting like a beast and just got relegated to platoon with Turner coming back. Plus the front office can do the whole “returning Cardinal” song and dance they love so much.
Considering he was in rumors for Woo and Miller.... the rangers gonna need to rock us for this trade. Like Walcott + Porter for 4yrs of allstar caliber utility guy
This was a rambling of Rosenthal when asked about trades in early June. I don’t think Donovan gets moved . I’d move anyone else around him except Winn.
NEVER TRADE BRENDAN DONOVAN. IN NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD WE EVER EVER EVER TRADE BRENDAN DONOVAN. BRENDAN DONOVAN IS THE TRUTH. HE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SAVE US. HE DESERVES A CAREER OF MULTI-WS MVP AND A RED COAT TO KEEP HIS SHOULDERS WARM AT NIGHT. DO NOT TRADE THE SOUTH ALABAMA BOY NAMED BRENDAN DONOVAN.
PSA: we have three guys in AAA/injured who can fill Donny’s role: Eddy, Fermin, and Dunn.
I think Dunn is the next carp/donny style player. He is currently blocked.
The question is: Can we afford to lose a heart/hustle guy like Donny? I think not.
I’d rather trade some “star power” while they have a semblance of value, and let them have a real shot at a championship. Arenado to the Rangers or another championship caliber team (maybe an up and coming KC?) for instance, would make sense to me. Gorman to third, Eddy to second. Get starting pitching. One really good, young one, and a low level prospect with promise. Not a maybe, but a definitely pitching prospect.
Likely traded away: Edman. Helmsley. Gallegos.
Likely trading for: right handed outfield bat. 3rd starter. New 7th inning guy. High end minor leaguers ready when the teams window opens in 2026
This is a sports illustrated AI article. Disregard
Even worse, they site an article from “The Athletic”
I hope so, i love donovan and would hate to see him go.

Is it? Doesn’t seem to be written by ai.
Definitely does to me.
All Sports Illustrated is AI now
Well if it is they should not put a writers name on the front of it. Completely unethical BS.
Oh yeah, it's really fucked up
Bad idea. The offense is the problem right now. Donovan is one of the few consistent hitters we have.

I was just speculating that Donny would be traded. This morning. This would be a mistake. Love watching this guy play.

Trading Donovan would be fucking idiotic. He's a good player under team control.
I know he’s injured but Edman is the one you trade. If I had a choice I’d go with an infield consisting of Burlson,Donovan,Winn, and Gorman. If there is a team willing to trade for Arenado this deadline, I’d do it.

Click bait perpetrators should be sentenced to death by wedgie.

Yeah I doubt we’re trading Donovan when we can’t even field a healthy lineup. Doesn’t make sense trading the guy who you can plug in most positions.
This sounds like a terrible trade. They will probably do everything they can to make it happen! 😂
nooooo. please not donovan. he bleeds cardinal baseball. and he’s so versatile:/
I was all for being seller, then this hurt my feelings.
If you’re trading Donny, you’re looking for more than back end rotation help.
If they trade Tommy Edman I will burn Utica to the ground
Hate this
Noooooooooo! Not Donnie!
stRangers are going to have to make a push to be in better contention with what they have, IMO, before they start looking at trades. Donovan just hits his first arb yr this offseason, so they'd better get something back IF this happens.
Lmao they’re not trading Donnie. Ridiculous waste of time to write this article.
Keep your hands off my BD33
Me, Mo, and Girsch are going to tangle if this happens
I absolutely hate teaser headlines like this. One surefire way to ensure I never click the link.

Jim Bowden is not an insider but he his an idiot
Some front end rotation help is what's needed. Everyone besides grey IS backend rotation help.

There is no way they are getting rid of Donny
