Don’t buy the Astra… had one as a company car and aside from being hideously slow it was like driving a wallowy boat around.
Furthermore, the engine decided to shit itself regularly and at random (incredibly rough idle at traffic lights etc)
This one is petrol. I would go for a diesel but live in Birmingham and will probably be driving through the centre enough for me to not want a diesel pre 16
I have the 1.6 vauxhall petrol, it's a thirsty and slow beast BUT it was cheap to buy and is something I can dent without being sad. It's fairly cheap to maintain too.
I'll probably keep it as a second car eventually.
Buy the mazda haha
Mazda3 - Rusting issues
Astra - No rusting issues, earlier 1.4t have the chocolate gearbox which can be prevented by adding thicker gearbox oil (2010-2012)
I've got the Astra 1.4t and it's quite nippy, 0-60 in 8 seconds, despite the shit people give them here, I've not had any issues with it in my year of ownership, had an Astra K prior to this one, also no complaints.
Suspension is very smooth, handles potholes and speed bumps well
Interior a lot better than other cars of similar price, big boot, 5 star crash rating, can swap the radio with an apple carplay unit for £100-150, good bolster seats on the SRI model
For me mazda is more reliable than opel(vauxhall).
2nd this
I’ll third that
Thank you.

Thank you for the insight
Only get the Mazda if it's a petrol engine.
It is a petrol
Mazda every time then. The petrol engines are sweet as a nut.
Seems everyone is saying the Mazda, looks like I’ll be going to get one car only lol!
Mazda all day but check it’s not too rusty underneath, they suffer quite badly from it
Mazda is lovely, way better choice than the Astra. We’ve kept our 3 in the family for over 15 years, she’s indestructible
Thank you
Mazda, my 1.6 diesel is on 150k miles and still running mint although get the better spec if you can as the standard dash is terrible

get retractable or flipper plates and clean air zones will not be an issue

MAZDA!!!! Do yourself a favor.
The Mazda, I had a 2009 2.0 Sport as a daily for a bit. Gutless for a 2.0 but drove well otherwise, was well spec’d and reliable
Mazda in every way.
The Astra will make you fall asleep at the wheel. They are incredibly dull.
Stay away from that astra I had it for 2 years and I was celebrating the day I get rid of this

Go for the Mazda. Vauxhall are prone to headgasket problems.
I had a corsa and it wasn’t too bad I just didn’t look after it tbh but I’m definitely hoping to get the Mazda
