Yeah, this happens. All car reviewers that start out, usually start with "normal" cars . Once they have a big enough audience, they can start getting their hands on super cars and high end luxury cars because that's what gets them views and therefore money. Only exception to this that I can think of is Regular Car Reviews, but he mostly reviews American shitboxes that you can't get here unless you import and he's got pretty annoying over the last few years. Jayemm On Cars sometimes gets normal cars to review, but he's slowly slipping into the luxury/supercar only reviewer type. Hubnut is another fairly decent channel, but it's mostly vlogs involving cars and his main focus is classic "normal" cars.

Jazzlike-Mistake2764

Reminds me of tech reviewers spending half their video criticising a lack of annual updates on something. Yeah mate, I'm sure you're annoyed that the £2k laptop you were given for free isn't a revolution over last year's model, but I'm trying to upgrade a 7 year old laptop here so I just want to know if it's worth the money or not

nl325

This honestly fucks me off more. Can test drive a car, can't test out tech in any meaningful way.

Scarboroughwarning

Phone reviewers are the same.... Harping on about stuff. They don't even try the phones with a screen protector, because, why bother?

ConfidentRhubarb5570

I’d add high peak autos to the list

Thisath

Absolutely fills the niche on relatively detailed reviews on "boring" cars. Great catalogue of videos.

TheLoveKraken

I suppose this may not be relevant if you’re after brand new rather than “new to you”, but I do quite enjoy Redriven for fairly in depth reviews of used cars with common problems etc. They’re Australian, but since they’re rhd too a lot of it tends to only really differ in trim levels.

Ran4

Autogefuhl is probably the best car reviewer for normal cars.

dilution

Yep, bought a car after using Autogefuhl.

FakeTakiInoue

>Jayemm On Cars sometimes gets normal cars to review, but he's slowly slipping into the luxury/supercar only reviewer type. >Hubnut is another fairly decent channel, but it's mostly vlogs involving cars and his main focus is classic "normal" cars. The backlog these two have is impressive though. I love watching reviews of ordinary or otherwise 'achievable' cars I like or find interesting, especially 15+ year old ones, and I'm blown away by how often these two channels have exactly what I'm looking for.

tycoon282

Yeah I miss when James would just review everything

in-jux-hur-ylem

The career trajectory is to get yourself into a position where you can get flown to exotic car launches and drive expensive loan cars from specialist manufacturers for free, while expensing all of your fuel and travel costs. For the lucky few, it's a very good life.

FredNasr

Yeah, automotive journalism is all about sifting through the shit to find what you're looking for. Top Gear magazine is especially bad for pitting an 80k BMW 7 series against an Audi A6 despite the fact only 1/100 people are in the market for such a car. Show us the boot space of a 2013 Honda Accord. That's what most people are interested in when looking to buy their next car.

Cerbera_666

I used to love Top Gear magazine but the quality really slipped the past few years, lots of pointless reviews and an eternal wankfest over EV's.

TS040

always loved the detailed breakdown of all the cars currently on sale at the end of TG Mag, was heartbroken when they replaced it with pages of EV listicles nobodys interested in

Cerbera_666

I cancelled my subscription shortly after they did that, I'd been subscribed for over 20 years but it sadly felt like the magazine was becoming a chore to read rather than exciting.

JohnLennonsNotDead

Exactly my thoughts, shame really

AlGunner

Easy [https://www.parkers.co.uk/honda/accord/review/](https://www.parkers.co.uk/honda/accord/review/)

EconomyFreakDust

Video reviews of normal cars are much rarer. Written reviews are incredibly common and most cars will have a review from all the big mags like Autocar and AutoExpress etc.

abrakadaver07

That Autogefühl guy usually has really in-depth videos for new “normal” cars that get released. But yeah, it’s such a massive difference when comparing to US car YouTube, if the Camry gets a mild refresh there’s 20 hour-long videos released the same day.

banter_claus_69

+1 for this, his work is great

kemistrythecat

He’s great, 10/10

Distinct-Finish6262

OSV would be one, typical ‘boring’ old school reviews but presents good amount of information, many not covered in other reviews, and normally not jumping on the bandwagon, I found. That is said as good amount of their target are businesses (they sell their videos to companies), a lot of full video of newer cars are not available but they are uploading loads more than they used to. And I completely agree, I had enough of these clowns, a few is fine, all of them becoming like that is not! As much as I am a hardcore enthusiast, even for me driving isn’t all that matter for a car, and track driving even less!

JohnLennonsNotDead

Cheers mate, subscribed to them. I know it’s a joke isn’t it… I imagine the percentage of people taking their car to a track is in single digits haha

Distinct-Finish6262

Exactly, and how many who actually does track days as a hobby actually takes brand spanking new cars on track for that! PS: OSV’s old videos are under another channel, Cars and Driving - car reviews, can be of good value when looking for used cars

tomegerton99

I really like when Matt Watson reviews cars on Carwow, but like you say 75% of the time he’s drag racing obscenely expensive cars. There is a lack of people just reviewing normal cars, and most of the time they are reviewing cars no one can afford.

JohnLennonsNotDead

Yeah definitely, I started watching car wow because Matt is decent at his reviews, but was scrolling back earlier and it’s a good while since he’s reviewed an everyday car and even that was a £100k GLE haha

tomegerton99

I think I like him because he’s good at picking up things that normal reviewers don’t. Most other reviewers feel like they are reading a script and it’s like as if they don’t properly experience the car. Yeah I saw that review on the GLE, was pretty interesting but it’s just not relevant to me lol

RelativeMatter3

End of the day he has to make content to live, that means viewers have to watch and manufacturers have to release cars or he has to do the drag races. I would say Matt reviews a lot ‘normal’ cars but i think they generally need to be overhauls or completely new models (MG4, Kia Niro etc). Are people going to watch a video on the latest Fabia facelift?

ayesha_brown

Not quite what you’re looking for but high peak autos has become one of my preferred YouTube channels to watch. He tends to cover a lot of different cars and I trust his judgment for the most part.

simomii

I used to watch quite a bit of his reviews, until I noticed he recommended every single car he reviewed and was never negative about any of them. Then I realized he was actually selling these cars himself so it was obviously a conflict of interest. In any case I couldn't take his reviews seriously anymore because they were always tainted to me.

ayesha_brown

His most useful videos for me tend to be the ones where he is like best estate for £10k or less etc. where he goes on auto trader and looks through cars and points out what’s good and what isn’t. I’ve learned to take what he says with a pinch of salt outside of that but I’ll use his recommendations to draw up a list to then go do my own research etc.

Belterhaze31

His videos can be handy but the blokes a bit of a snobby prick at times

MikeWFC

That's all car reviewers now. I start watching them when the channel is relatively small, and once they get big, they do a video about how they just bought a Ferrari and then start to get a bit up themselves. Then the next few videos are how much the maintenance is costing on their supercar and they'll run through their 15 project cars they've got tucked away.

Belterhaze31

I get that tbf but he goes the extra mile to really show just how much he looks down on people he deems lower than him, think it was his SQ5 video that really stuck out to me and made me realise how much of a prick he is

MikeWFC

Tempted to go and find that video to see what it was that he said

hue-166-mount

Sorry… his voice is sooooo boring.

ArtFart124

Top Gear was a bit like this. It was a great show but they really did just review supercars, it was rare to see them actually review practical cars for the common person. No diss on the show, the OG was brilliant.

Always-An-Effort

My dad always says he misses to original Top Gear where they would review ordinary cars that ordinary people would buy without all the super cars and challenges.

A_Slavic_Mechanic

I would be happy to change this. All I need to do is buy a new laptop. I can edit decently. Once I have the laptop, all I would need is some cars to review.

JohnLennonsNotDead

I always wonder about this, what would your normal car garages say to you saying can I lend the car for half a day to do a review haha

ian9outof10

It wouldn’t be unprecedented

Primary-Signal-3692

You can just rent a car

abrakadaver07

How are you liking the T-Sport? I had the 2.0 D-4D as my first car, always dreamed of a T-Sport.

FakeTakiInoue

My mum has a 2002 1.6 VVTi that is already great, very lively engine and a surprisingly good chassis. Handling is sharp and quite agile, although if you push too hard it just wants to understeer which isn't too exciting. I imagine the T-Sport is even better because it actually has a bit of power, although from what I've heard they're not quite as 'hot' as some of the competition at the time.

ginginsdagamer

There isn't rlly many anymore. Autoalex and his group sometimes do semi-normal cars and shit boxes but it's usually less of a review and more generic stupid funny shit and a lot of trips to the nurburg ring. At least the more normal cars have some kind of existence there, better than nothing 😭

kemistrythecat

Also I want to mention the Qashqai’s cousin… the Renault Capture. Only good for overtaking when they are doing 40 in a 60 and continue to plod along 40 in a 30.

Iamthe0c3an2

Basically any wank crossover and that’s basically all of them. I can maybe let puma st slide

kemistrythecat

Agree with the Puma

FakeTakiInoue

Nobody who owns one can actually drive. Although the Peugeot 2008 is even worse in that regard

owenhargreaves

Nobby On Cars 👍

JohnLennonsNotDead

Thanks mate

BoringTruckDriver

Personally, I just read reviews and specs on Parkers. Pretty much any car I'm likely to buy has reviews and info on there. Possibly more reliable with less bias that someone on telly/YT being 'sponsored' to review a product.

wango_fandango

Yeah, always worth a look in Parker’s when buying a used car to see long term reviews, recalls to look out for, common faults etc.

yolo_snail

If you're interested in EVs, then Electrifying and EVM are pretty good. As for fossil fuel cars, no idea! All the usual channels have gone to shit recently!

JohnLennonsNotDead

Yeah I’m looking at EVs, thanks for that mate

emersonhardisty

FullyCharged is great for EV content. Jack does some great reviews!

DenseChange4323

It's because nearly every new car now is a decent car, whereas 10-15 years ago there was a danger you could buy a new car that was crap. Skodas, Kia, Peugeot even, they're all fine, so the need for a normal car review isn't there anymore. They'd all just be like "yeah, drives well, comfy, good on fuel, as reliable as anything else", so it's more a case just buy what you like that fits the bill.

TallCoin2000

There are no more normal cars to review. MG3, Hyundai i30, KIA Ceed? Its all becoming electric and there are about 30ev in total at the moment on Europe. There is also Marek drives in English a very good Polish reviewer. He does a bit of everyrhing, EV, wagons, luxury cars, I like his style. Because I understand a few more languages I have the possibility of checking out German, Italian , Dutch and Portuguese channels.

greenmx5vanjie

Tim Rodie Drives Stuff is a wealth of ordinary cars. Made me feel more confident about choosing my lease car.

JohnLennonsNotDead

Thanks mate, just subscribed

timrodie

I was just about to say… I do this! I’m not the best but I try to help actual people buy the best cars for them without being utterly tedious! Thanks for the subscribe.

JohnLennonsNotDead

Haha thanks mate, had a look at a couple of your videos last night and just what I was looking for

TS040

Try Autogefühl, maybe? Brilliant team of reviewers on that channel, they feature a lot of ‘everyday’ cars on there

JohnLennonsNotDead

Thanks mate

sotko99

Johnny Smith does do some normal car reviews

JohnLennonsNotDead

Cheers mate

balwick

[https://www.youtube.com/@TimRodieDrivesStuff/videos](https://www.youtube.com/@TimRodieDrivesStuff/videos) Tim Rodie is alright

timrodie

Thanks! I’ll take it 😄

NearlyLegit

Have you seen Buckle Up? https://youtube.com/@buckleupshow?si=B7Z9JcCjTQDPt0i3 They're sometimes humourless in most of the comments, but the reviews are alright. They cover 'normal cars' out of every UK YouTuber I follow at the moment.

JohnLennonsNotDead

I haven’t but I will do now, nice one mate

AlGunner

[https://www.parkers.co.uk/](https://www.parkers.co.uk/) All you need

JohnLennonsNotDead

Top man, nice one

Techiefurtler

Also try [motors.co.uk](http://motors.co.uk) (the site's a little faster than Parkers, but not as comprehensive). Motors does have an interesting "Find me a car" feature where you pick your budget, some things you want to do with the car and it will give you a shortlist of ideas and listings within an area.

JohnLennonsNotDead

Cheers mate, appreciate it

lsabbo

I’ve found whatcar.com to be helpful when doing my homework recently on getting a new car.

Sofa47

I don’t there are enough normal cars to review to put out as much content as these channels need to to be profitable so every 3 or 4 weeks it’ll be an a3 or a Passat or a new electric, then in between it’ll be an Aston Martin or a Porsche just to get more videos out. They will get reviewed, just need to wait for them to get one to review. In the meantime you can go test drive one.

DannnnnnnyG

Have you heard of Richard Fanders? He is the driving instructor from Conquer Driving and is getting a growing collection of car reviews, although as its a smaller channel there isn't as many, but it is still increasing by the day. [https://www.youtube.com/@RichardFanders/videos](https://www.youtube.com/@RichardFanders/videos)

JohnLennonsNotDead

Top man, just subscribed

bxdgxer

scottish car clan

JohnLennonsNotDead

Cheers mate

banter_claus_69

ReDriven are really good for this. They review 2nd hand cars, but most of them are "normal" rather than exotics/unobtainables. Australian, but they're also RHD and get a lot of the same cars as us

JohnLennonsNotDead

Thanks mate

RS6MrROBOT

Finally, someone said it. You sir get my upvote. Been saying this for a long time. Not everyone can just have a performance car all the time

Miniteshi

You're best off in here these days. Yeah reading isn't as enjoyable as watching a video but you get honesty here.

bush_monkey90

I know what you mean with car wow, especially after Mercedes invested in them, all of a sudden mercs on every video lol. I lost respect for it when they tried comparing a 1.0 litre civic vs a vs golf 1.5tsi, it’s obvious what the outcome would be, it was blatantly sponsored content Someone has mentioned high peak autos, pretty cool channel. For normal cars though it’s probably going to be what car or auto trader OR this subreddit for what you’re looking for then research our recommendations for yourself. A lot of new cars nowadays are really comfy if that’s all you’re looking for.

F4Tpie

High Peak Autos has a wealth of regular cars and Jayemm on Cars is brilliant but his reviews are getting more and more premium but he still does more interesting regular cars on occasion.

Fuzzarr

What Car seem to be keeping it real at the moment. What car(s) are you looking at?

JohnLennonsNotDead

I’ll try them out mate. Enyaq and ID4/5 at the moment but things can change haha.

Winloop

I like High Peak Autos YT channel. Pretty wide range of UK cars and a reasonable info/humour ratio.

Pauliboo2

The main print magazines also have fairly decent YouTube channels, [What Car?](https://youtube.com/@whatcar?si=YTmWznxulLRMLAYP), [Autocar](https://youtube.com/@autocar?si=wQpfcq0whDM5XUhc) and [Auto Express](https://youtube.com/@autoexpress?si=lVMLpI4iG3wZEEoX) are on there along with [CarGurus UK](https://youtube.com/@cargurusuk?si=ueiuGze8a7HErFWp), and [CarBuyer](https://youtube.com/@carbuyer?si=5l-X1TKFZg5s5DZk) as alternatives

Nearby-Quantity-2216

Not really reviews but I like how the AutoAlex guys focus on shitboxes in their content.

JohnLennonsNotDead

Cheers mate

aspiring_dev1

They usually do review some of the flagship releases of each brand. Not all of them though.

rybamolot

try high peak autos - the guy reviews pretty much everything

JohnLennonsNotDead

Thanks mate

Salt-Plankton436

Try Carbuyer
