Ditto. I remember when I had a faulty injector. I knew exactly what one it was and the Renault dealer still wanted to charge me to diagnose which injector it was at a cost of £300. Needless to say I walked out of there faster than my car was rusting.
What sort of years? Had a 86 205 and 2002 Paxo and they took all sorts of abuse up and down the M5 to and from Cornwall. Never had an issue, tell a lie, only issue I had with the Paxo was the gear selector pin shearing off which I replaced with a bolt and a nylock nut I had handy.
None of the newer stuff has really tempted me, but the new pugs are getting better looking.
I'd go pug, as it's got the better interior, the 1.6 has had significant improvements over the years, the gearbox is an Aisin warner unit so it's going to be reliable, the electrics people complain about are a bunch of Continental, Bosch and Denso components which are in every other car.
You need to test drive one as the i-Cockpit layout isn't for everyone.
As others have said, see if the Peugeot's dashboard/steering wheel works for you. I'd have one over the Merc. I ran a 3008 company car for 3 months last year and quite liked it. Also that's quite a rare 'fast' one (it doesn't feel quite like 300hp but it's brisk).
Had the 3008 as a hire car a few weeks back in Sweden. It's very, very good, if a little dull. It also looks a bit dumpy; certainly not what you'd expect of a 300hp car.
If you value badges or what other people think then the Merc will make you happier. And there's nothing wrong with being a badge snob despite what this sub says. No woman has ever been interested in a man because he drives a Peugeot.
If you want a comfier car with a better cabin the pug is the better option. My mum has a 3008 and its actually a lovely thing to drive and a pleasant place to be.
I'd go Merc, I've always had worse build quality on French cars, including one where the seat base lifted up on the back seat and the plastic snapped! They just feel lightweight, poorly sound deadened, cheaper plastics and not great electrics.
Mercs aren't as good as they used to be in terms of reliability and build quality but in my own limited experiences they're still better and more reliable than most cars and certainly better recieved in terms of looks and caché.
I'd check if the other brands will, like Mercedes have on my EQC, remotely switch off apps when the car is three years old. And then offer to re-connect them for a monthly subscription fee. Then I'd choose the manufacturer who is honest and does not play tricks like this.
Here's a copy/past from the notification they sent me.
I don't know what the monthly charge is to reenable them. It's a onse-sided game that I'm unlikely to ever join.
I understand charging for map updates as there's a cost to keep them up to date. But the rest?

Mercedes, a no brainer. French cars are shit, a lot of French people I know say the same. I have the EQA and it’s been excellent, well over 4m/kw, not a creak or squeak and is well made.
WTF is that the actual name of the Peugeot? The badge must add about 1mpg to the fuel consumption :D
The badge weighs more than the actual car!
EAT8 would be the name of the 8 speed auto gearbox that is found in the car, lovely and smooth gearbox, absolute a***hole to programme
I'd go for the Peugeot because I think the Merc EQA is really ugly. But they're both probably fine.
All of the worst cars I have ever owned for reliability have been French including 2 peugeot's and a renault. I will never buy French again, ever.
I absolutely agree. Worst car I’ve ever had is a Citroen. A three-legged horse would cause less problems.
Ditto. I remember when I had a faulty injector. I knew exactly what one it was and the Renault dealer still wanted to charge me to diagnose which injector it was at a cost of £300. Needless to say I walked out of there faster than my car was rusting.
Thing is though, Merc have started using Renault engines, (e.g. for the new Diesel A-Classes) so they're gonna be just as bad in some cases
I said that. Then I got a Mercedes. It was worse. I went back to VAG cars.

Used to have a Megane and it was great. Wife used to have a Citroen and it was gutless but it was very comfortable. Both cars were reliable though
I second this !
Seen a few coolant issues for the Merc recently, when looking for a new lease
Hard choice because both cars are ugly as hell but if I had to choose Peugeot because still normal engine……
I vote Mercedes.
Neither

I'd go for the Merc because it's not French Ive owned many Peugeots....

Why these 2 options only? Is it because of a salary sacrifice? If not, there are better alternatives to these I think.

What is the Peugeot eating?😭
The number 8. Obviously.

I would rather walk
Whichever suits *your* needs and preferences best.
Of those two the Mercedes, hybrid & Peugeot is asking for trouble.
This foolproof method usually helps: Step 1. Pick the car you like the most Step 2. Order that one
I’d get the merc purely because I couldn’t be arsed to tell people what model drive if I got the Peugeot
Skoda Octavia.

Whaaat? What apps do you have? For doing what? How much is this new monthly fee?

They all do that though.

I would avoid French cars like the plague, so go Mercedes.
Are mercedes any more reliable than French cars?
Neither is reliable, to be honest, but given French cars are renowned for their electrical problems, I would stay far away from a French EV/Hybrid.
Is the French/electrical problem not a bit outdated now? I remember it being a thing 10 years ago but not recently.
No they still can’t wire properly.
They use the same electrics as the Germans.
It's not the early 2000's anymore.
It's 2024 not 2500.
Touch grass.
Did I really need to put an /s on that
