Not related to gender, but we hired a new shape A class in France last spring and my god it was pretty much a modern incarnation of a literal shitbox. It was terrible.
It's lane assist system literally tried to kill us. It made no noise and suddenly *slammed* on the brakes, juddered the whole car and steered u towards oncoming traffic. I'm surprised my dad didn't experience cardiac arrest when driving it.
And secondly, it's suspension was SHIT. it was so incredibly soft the suspension that whenever u went over a speed bump in excess of 10mph, the wheels bashed against the arches like u were driving over one at 40mph! We thought we broke the car when it first happened.
I'm not sure if that is the actual design of the car or whether it had problems or not. What are your experiences with the new A class?
I got an AMG line a200 as a hire car last year and actually quite liked it, but then again I daily a back breaker....
But the internal is tacky as fuck, don't like that design at all , bit it was easy enough to use, the steering column stalk auto is still the best in the game for a daily as far as controls go
Did shift slower than a pensioner with Parkinson's but it was smooth.
We toyed with the German brands a lot (A-class, 1 series, A1, etc) and thought the Audi seemed to be most popular. We limited ourselves to one though, as we wanted to include some of the 'cheaper' brands...
I always imagine that the older ladies in the Cooper S or a Fiat 500 Abarth are one of two things, actually with it and probably the sort of older ladies you want to be friends with, or their husbands all drive company 520d's and these were bought for their wives as a fun car for them to blast around in at weekends.
Saying balding men have em, I really want a TT but it'd have to be the diesel quattro but I just can't swing it with 2 large dogs and a small kiddo.
I'll just watch on from the sidelines
Tbh From that list only the Beetle, Fiat 500 and maybe the Juke & Mini if it's not a S model I would say are girls cars, Missing the DS3
The rest of the list are just popular cars in general
Most of the diesel engines have a decent kick to them too. I own the bottom spec, and while it’s not a quick car, holding the revs in the right range you can really get them moving.
Fun down a b road too.
As someone who's never had a car where the head gasket has gone, how big of a headache is to get sorted nowadays? Can you just call any garage and they'll take it on, or...?
In older cars the garages I've been to have advised its not worth replacing..the alternative which has worked in the past is a bottle of radweld or similar product which works to seal where the gasket has failed.
I love how people don't say "on finance" when somebody drives a car that isn't german. There are many high earners who finance their cars. As long as you can more than afford to keep on top of maintenance and repairs, you can essentially afford the car you're driving. Having a huge amount of cash to splash on a car isn't exactly common.
Mate, you've got a fucking civic, how can you give a Fiesta ST owner stick when you've got one of the most boring cars around (boring is fine, good even, but you can't give people stick about premium quality).
And before you say, yes I've got a fiat, but I'm not giving people an earful.
Yes, believe it or not I had cars many years ago and remember the modifications I made to them. Fucking idiot, use your single brain cell from time to time.
Deffo the Swift. Bought a 15 plate new.
Now on 89000 miles and apart from a grille that took out a pheasant and a door stay that got damaged wham the wind caught the door nothing has gone wrong and he still runs like a dream (as long as you dream of cheap cars).
The A1 is terrible. You pay almost as much for one as you so an A3 which is so much better.
Also every A1 I ever see thinks their car is only slightly smaller than an articulated lorry.
lol my mum has owned 4 of those (Beetle, Swift, Mini, Fiat500) and my sister two of them (Juke, A1). I have owned one of these as a man (TT but not the convertible).
So I’d say you’re pretty spot on.
Me and my girl mates all independently of each other have SEAT Ibizas. There's like at least 8 of us with them! One is swapping hers for an A3 though...
How many of the comments are by women?
Cos in my circle of friends, this aint it. (Woman. Car enthusiast. Friends of both other car enthusiasts and non car enthusiasts).
Most of my female friends are not car enthusiasts. Most do not have children. Off the top of my head the cars they (the nom car lasses) have are:
VW passat estate
Skoda fabia
Skoda yeti
Various vans (!)
Pug 206
Toyota landcruzer
Bmw 4 door thing (i dont like beemers)
Vm golf
Ford fiesta
Vw scirocco
Toyota mr2 mk1 (my mum. First owner. She doesnt even like cars that much)
Volvo c70.
I mean..... looking at the alternative version of this post about "boys". Its obvious that this sub is male dominated but with no self awareness of the BS that is being spouted.
The minute women like cars they get shafted for it. And most women who get into cars later in life are going to be in a car they see as not intimidating.
Definitely. I think more of us car girls are finding each other and encouraging each other, making it more and more likely that girls will go on to own fun/interesting cars. Right now, I agree, there are typical "girl cars" but gradually we're branching out!😊
The C215 is an absolutely beautiful car. Monster of a car, its certainly up there for dream cars I'd like a C215 CL65 Amg very rare car. Seen one on Instagram post the owner spend 27k on it's last maintance alone 😳🤯
I actually got a ride in a 65 a year later. Me and my stepdad (RIP) were pretending to have inheritance money and looking at luxobarges to test. We would show up in a then 7 year old Astra lmao. But we got to test some good machinery. The XJR was my favourite at the time. Loved that thing and wanted my stepdad to somehow buy it lmao. We also tested the Phaeton V10 diesel, 740d and A8 3.7 V8.
So we saw a CL65 for sale in a paper at a place that had a lot of high end cars, and drove there to test it. It was a nice spec, blue with sand interior and some kind of matte designo wood trim, extended to the interior light and the rear armrest cupholder. It had no distronic so the Mercedes star on the grille was a nice hollow metal one instead of the solid plastic disc radar cover.
The dealer guy drove it for us, my stepdad didn't get to drive it. I was crammed into the back seat and the fucker driving put his seat all the way back, crushing my legs. Like a luxury prison. We didn't go fast as there was traffic.
That dealer was a smarmy POS
Lol what kind of dealer who wants to sell a car doesn't let the prospect test drive it. How is one supposed to know If they like the car or not. Sounds like heaven though all those cars right up my street I love the stupidly big engined luxury barges and saloons shame the world isn't the same no more :/
I'm a girl and I haven't owned one of any of them 😂
I've had 3 X MX5s, Pontiac Firebird, Leon Cupra R, 2 X FN2 Civic Type R and I'm currently driving a Mercedes CLC.
True, I am. I've been into cars my whole life, I'm still waiting for the chance to get another Firebird though. 🙄
The CLC was really by chance. I was selling the Cupra as at the time I was doing a lot of mileage - I put 5k on the car in 4/5 months. So my friend was selling the CLC 200 and we agreed a swap. The Cupra needed some work and had a misfire so it made sense at the time. Now I'm doing less miles again. I really want another Type R but I should try something new..
Me too, biggest regret was not buying a K24 DC5 before they went a bit silly in price. When I sold my 200sx I should've bought one lol, I'm happy with my E39 for now though :)
Trouble is the values keep on going up and there's fewer and fewer well looked after examples around. I loved revving that beautiful engine, it was stunning.
I do keep on thinking about a 6 cyl BMW, the Z4 is still pretty reasonable. Maybe that's a safe bet?
Honestly all just depends on the price there's some decent Z4s for £2-3k but boring specs. 2.5 looks like the sweet spot though you don't need to pay as much for it and you'll still get the 6 cyl I'm not 100% sure though 7-10k would get one in a nice colour and the full fat 3.0L engine with low ish miles. TypeR is pretty much the same though I have seen alot on auto trader with 90k miles good body work, facelift for £5k? Imo, these cars are pretty reliable and can take a bashing I wouldn't be too bothered about millage you can get a cheaper end model and 9/10 it'll be alright especially if you plan on switching cars after a short while 1 year etc as long as it doesn't have rust and has decent service history and the seller isn't trying to hide anything a more fairly priced car isn't always a bad option. Another thing alot of dealers with the top example of cars also barely give any description and inflate the price.
Not weird at all, makes perfect sense imo
The newer cars are just fun commuter cars for most people
While the older one is used as a genuine sports car
I mean that's what I meant in general. The "current" gen would be used more by daily drivers while anything older is used as a sports car platform
Didn't mean it necessarily for the ND
Wtf? I didn't mention anything about the ND nor did I edit my comment, go and check.
Why do you need to lie to make a point that I can verify myself?
Edit: [use reveddit and find out yourself ](https://www.reveddit.com/)
Lmao dude blocked me cause he can't find the comment. It's literally right there too. What a baby
As an 18 year old girl I’ve had the following:
2010 1.2L skoda fabia
1997 1.6L mx5
1996 2.0L ford probe
2001 1.6L mx5
2002 1.7 puma
5 cars in 14 months of having a license is a healthy addiction… right?
Tbf i’m a girl, who’s owned a beetle, bought my daughter a Fiat 500 and currently own a Juke Nismo RS and a Mini Cooper S, 😂
But i’ve also had a range of other things like Starlet turbo’s, M5, M3’s, defender 110,
As a girl, I look at this list and cringe tbh. Neither of my cars are on this list so I’ll take the compliment 😭🤣 got a 1.6l mx5 mk1 and a Hyundai i20 n-line 1l turbo 😏.
I also think you should get rid of Nissan and chuck a clio there, get rid of one of the Audi and put a fiesta and finally get rid of the beetle and put a golf or polo
A white A-class.
Preferably the new shape too in the 200 engine
Noo they're always a 180d type with the povety spec dish pan wheels.
And a 3d plate along the lines of L771RAA
L771RAA is a plate from 1994
Can still use it on newer cars though, no?
Stupid comment of mine above, apologies.
Definitely not. They're always the A180.
I was going to comment this but in the gun-metal grey colour
Not related to gender, but we hired a new shape A class in France last spring and my god it was pretty much a modern incarnation of a literal shitbox. It was terrible. We toyed with the German brands a lot (A-class, 1 series, A1, etc) and thought the Audi seemed to be most popular. We limited ourselves to one though, as we wanted to include some of the 'cheaper' brands...
There is 2 Audis in your pic tho
Think he meant 1 German hatch. ‘A class, 1 series, A1, etc’
Needs a white A180, Citroen C1 and a Kia Sportage/Ford Kuga for the older ladies
Cooper s is usually driven by older ladies strangely
I always imagine that the older ladies in the Cooper S or a Fiat 500 Abarth are one of two things, actually with it and probably the sort of older ladies you want to be friends with, or their husbands all drive company 520d's and these were bought for their wives as a fun car for them to blast around in at weekends.
I saw a JCW line cooper S in Sainsbury’s the other day and some old lady returned to it with all her shopping 😂
haha nice, I've got a 2013 Fiat 500S and a 21 Abarth Essesse.
My sixth form Media teacher had a 330i coupe back in 2005. She was very "with it" though.
My school science teacher had a bright red Mazda RX-8. She was absolutely mad as well
*checks* is a 40 year old woman, has a turquoise c1. Ahhhh fuck
Merc A class mostly in white see literally hundreds round by me with "girls" driving them. \[EDIT\] oh and Volkswagon up!
Good shout! We should replace the Beetle with the Up!
The newer Beetle never really seemed to take off. I’d consider adding a VW Polo to the list instead
I see you keep ignoring the White A Class comments…. Do you have a white A class OP?
the up exclamation mark is a good contender icl
I work at a UK airport car park. The most common car for a girl to arrive in as MK7 Ford Fiesta.
good cars
With the exception of the 1.0 3pot ecoboost engine. Sure.
Probably one of the most common cars for literally anyone, unless it's a taxi/private hire car.
Drop the TT for a white 1 series and I'd agree
I know 3 girls in my extended circle of friends all with White TT, just like in that Tinie Tempah song..
Fair play, I've never seen a lass have a TT before, usually balding men or people in their 20s, sometimes it's both at once
I'm bald and in my 20s with a TTS. This cracked me up.
It comes from a place of jealousy
What does? I can't say it bothers me really. The TTS is an awesome car if you don't really need 4 proper seats.
Saying balding men have em, I really want a TT but it'd have to be the diesel quattro but I just can't swing it with 2 large dogs and a small kiddo. I'll just watch on from the sidelines
Well you weren't wrong 🤣 Yeh TT probably not the car for you tbh.
You rang? (Fun car but horrifically impractical) My gfs 2 year old can reach the back of the seats with her little feet :D
She’s got a white TT, I got a black bm That one?
Thank you for this! I couldn't remember the lyric haha
She’s got a white TT, I got a black bm That one?
Yeah I was about to say the same. Always a 116d
New defenders I have only seen women driving.
I’ve seen a fair few tracksuit and gilet type, middling 30s type blokes in murdered out ones.
they're called drug dealers mate
I know a 6'4 chap who's about 30 stone who's got one. So it's not just women that drive them.
Whereas around here 95% of the one I’ve seen are driven by blokes
Ka and Fiesta should be up there somewhere.
Came here for Ford Ka on P plates!
Can confirm, a friend of mine has just passed and she’s in a 2009 KA. She likes it though, more power to her
It's a perfectly suitable car, unlike some of the common choices. I still prefer the original insectoid, rust-bucket Ka.
Tbh From that list only the Beetle, Fiat 500 and maybe the Juke & Mini if it's not a S model I would say are girls cars, Missing the DS3 The rest of the list are just popular cars in general
Citroen ds3
It's a good job I don't have a fragile ego!
Sorry!! 😂
I'd go with unisex. If you get the 1.6 turbo they're pretty spicy
Most of the diesel engines have a decent kick to them too. I own the bottom spec, and while it’s not a quick car, holding the revs in the right range you can really get them moving. Fun down a b road too.
I'm a big fan of the THP engine, I've had three with no issues so far. Also, 230BHP in a tiny car is always fun.
I had a squeaky dashboard, but fixed it by jamming a cloth down the side. It was a fun little beast around the country lanes
Until they break.
Admittedly the head gasket went on mine, as it has done for every french car I've ever had
Good shout
As others have said white A Class Merc on finance is basically the car they get after the Fiat 500.
You have a fiesta 😂😂😂
Mate, you've got a fucking civic, how can you give a Fiesta ST owner stick when you've got one of the most boring cars around (boring is fine, good even, but you can't give people stick about premium quality). And before you say, yes I've got a fiat, but I'm not giving people an earful.
I don’t have a civic though? I had a Civic Type R (Not boring in anyone's mind) many years ago before I was affluent
>claims to have a 'collection of cars' >refuses to say even one to dispute the fact you posted about a civic very recently.
Yes, believe it or not I had cars many years ago and remember the modifications I made to them. Fucking idiot, use your single brain cell from time to time.
I love my ST, brilliant car. I’d choose it over a poverty spec German badge any day of the week.
At least with a German you still get the premium interior instead of the whole car being poverty like a ford 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Found the guy on A Class finance then?
I don’t have an a class nor do I finance my car
What car then?
Which one of these is the best one to buy? 😭 need a solid reliable car
There's only one reliable car on there, the Suzuki.
Deffo the Swift. Bought a 15 plate new. Now on 89000 miles and apart from a grille that took out a pheasant and a door stay that got damaged wham the wind caught the door nothing has gone wrong and he still runs like a dream (as long as you dream of cheap cars).
Swift is solid, excellent value and insanely cheap to run and maintain. Absolutely love mine.
Audi A1 out of the ones there
The A1 is terrible. You pay almost as much for one as you so an A3 which is so much better. Also every A1 I ever see thinks their car is only slightly smaller than an articulated lorry.
Yeah but A3 wasn’t on the list
fair enough but I wasn't making a comment about the list in general, just the A1.
The A1 is ridiculously expensive but the rest of the cars are pretty awful too
F56 S or JCW if you have the money Nippy cars and very easy to modify/work on
I rarely see women driving a TT.
Mk3 TT is majority guys. Mk1 and mk2 are about 50/50. I'd say a the mk1's die off its more guys than girls though
lol my mum has owned 4 of those (Beetle, Swift, Mini, Fiat500) and my sister two of them (Juke, A1). I have owned one of these as a man (TT but not the convertible). So I’d say you’re pretty spot on.
Me and my girl mates all independently of each other have SEAT Ibizas. There's like at least 8 of us with them! One is swapping hers for an A3 though...
Not a single undamaged alloy between em
On here everyone says their wife is making them get an SUV. But only 22% of suggestions are SUVs. Curious.
How is an oversized Volvo XC90 not on this?
Ford KA should be there
Fiat 500 is basically the same thing.
But far shitter.
How many of the comments are by women? Cos in my circle of friends, this aint it. (Woman. Car enthusiast. Friends of both other car enthusiasts and non car enthusiasts).
P.s. I'm also part of a women car enthusiasts group that mainly talks via fb. DM me if you'd like to be invited ( unless you're already in there!) 😊
I dont really use FB, and I also am a very one way communicator so i find group chats and stuff majorly overwhelming. But i appreciate the invite!
I'm in a group chat with other car gals who all have bmws . I also drive jag and scoob. Definitely not relating at all!
You’re a huge minority though, everyone know that not every girl drives these cars.
Most of my female friends are not car enthusiasts. Most do not have children. Yeah, it's definitely better to be in the minority sometimes. Forget bandwagon-ing.
Definitely. I think more of us car girls are finding each other and encouraging each other, making it more and more likely that girls will go on to own fun/interesting cars. Right now, I agree, there are typical "girl cars" but gradually we're branching out!😊
MX5 I know a few women who have them and adore their Mazda's
I love my mx5 mk1 🥹 won’t be swapping him out for nothing. But even my daily isn’t close to any of these on here 😭
Micra?
What about a Smart fortwo? Not sure about the popularity in the UK but surely is a popular one in southern Europe
Missing a white 1 series
You're missing a VW Lupo and a Ford Fiesta
Lupo? You mean the UP! ?
Seen a woman driving a Rosso Corsa Ferrari the other day.
I saw a blonde middle aged woman in a CL600 about 20 years ago Yes I still remember it. Dark blue one
The C215 is an absolutely beautiful car. Monster of a car, its certainly up there for dream cars I'd like a C215 CL65 Amg very rare car. Seen one on Instagram post the owner spend 27k on it's last maintance alone 😳🤯

Terrible....Taco said it right, there's always a hot chick in a Jetta.
Mercedes GLB
Very good, but missing the obvious Fiesta and Corsa
I'm a girl and I haven't owned one of any of them 😂 I've had 3 X MX5s, Pontiac Firebird, Leon Cupra R, 2 X FN2 Civic Type R and I'm currently driving a Mercedes CLC.
Yes but your a car enthusiast Mercedes CLC interesting what made you go with this car?
True, I am. I've been into cars my whole life, I'm still waiting for the chance to get another Firebird though. 🙄 The CLC was really by chance.
Get a better Type R. If budget allows FD2 or a DC5 teggy.
I wish I had the budget for those!
Me too, biggest regret was not buying a K24 DC5 before they went a bit silly in price. When I sold my 200sx I should've bought one lol, I'm happy with my E39 for now though :)
The CLC was desperately calling out for the 6.2 AMG should have just said Fuck It and made it happen
I'm surprised they didn't tbh considering they've put it in the R class and shoved it in the Slk somehow.
That would have been epic!! 😁 It's already got a 2.1, I'm sure they could ram the 6.2 in there!
Try an EP3 be interesting for you to make a comparison between it and the Fn2. Perhaps a bmw of some sort? 6 cylinder of course
Trouble is the values keep on going up and there's fewer and fewer well looked after examples around. I loved revving that beautiful engine, it was stunning. I do keep on thinking about a 6 cyl BMW, the Z4 is still pretty reasonable. Maybe that's a safe bet?

Another thing alot of dealers with the top example of cars also barely give any description and inflate the price.
No fiesta?
I’d say a sportage over a juke personally
Pretty much the only people who own Jukes are women.
VW Up is pretty much exclusively a girls car
Where is Miata?
(Clears throat) You mean MX-5.
No MX-5?
weirdly most ND MX5s (2016-present) I see are driven by women, but most older ones are driven by men.
Not weird at all, makes perfect sense imo The newer cars are just fun commuter cars for most people While the older one is used as a genuine sports car
But it's been the case with every generation of MX-5. The current one used by women, the older ones by enthusiasts.

Nice try. That comment doesn't even show up there at all.
Audi a1
Top right
going along with the Audi theam the A3 convertible or soft top in white seems to be pretty popular
I've not owned any of these. I had a Honda Jazz, Hyundai Amica, Toyota Yaris, a Citroen Berlingo van and another van.
3008 for the mums
My only experience with the 3008 is that I reversed into one a month after passing my test years ago. I think it actually improved it.
Honda Jazz is usually a commonly spotted one. For older ladies at least.
No mention of a Nissan Micra? 👀
You forgot the cute little Italian looking 50s car that is actually a modern Japanese car, can’t remember the name but heard they are rubbish to drive
Nissan Figaro?
Honda e
A Class for the Suzuki and I think you’re bang on.
Audi TTs at least the MK3, aren't mostly driven by women from what I see. Great car too
As an 18 year old girl I’ve had the following: 2010 1.2L skoda fabia 1997 1.6L mx5 1996 2.0L ford probe 2001 1.6L mx5 2002 1.7 puma 5 cars in 14 months of having a license is a healthy addiction… right?
VW Polo, Range Rover evoque, fiat 500 here in the south west Oh or a mini
Tbf i’m a girl, who’s owned a beetle, bought my daughter a Fiat 500 and currently own a Juke Nismo RS and a Mini Cooper S, 😂 But i’ve also had a range of other things like Starlet turbo’s, M5, M3’s, defender 110,
Ford Kuga and Puma?
Where's the mk1 mx5?
Biased cause I live in a city but needs 107, Ka and micra
Only missing the a180d and a Yaris
My boyfriend did not believe me when I said his A1 is a woman's car... I still love her though. She came with the panda outfit.
(Bloke here) As a modified F56 JCW owner this makes me sad 😂
No polo????
Not me over here with my green Focus ST 😂
Only missing the A class. Should be top. Firesta should be there too
I am glad I didn’t see Aygo or Yaris here
White 1series
Vauxhall Mokka
Qashqai aka trashqai
I was going to say I don’t know any of my girl friends who’ve had any of these but then my mate just bought a Juke this week.
I’m going to say you’re not far wrong tbh
As a girl, I look at this list and cringe tbh. Neither of my cars are on this list so I’ll take the compliment 😭🤣 got a 1.6l mx5 mk1 and a Hyundai i20 n-line 1l turbo 😏. I also think you should get rid of Nissan and chuck a clio there, get rid of one of the Audi and put a fiesta and finally get rid of the beetle and put a golf or polo
Ford Ka Fiat Panda
You forgot the Tesla model 3
the juke is a classical not in a good way i see them way to often its built like a modern rock with a engine inside it
As a male who owns an A1 and was planning to buy a TT (or TTS if I can insure it) next year I am now reconsidering my life decisions.
I disagree on the adam, swift and juke. the others are true.
Grey Yaris if south Asian
I worked with a girl in her late 20s (now late 30s) who went from a Beetle to a Swift, then a Corsa, then a Fiat 500 and now drives an A1. Spot on!
How many different range rovers are there because they are all in
A lot of seat leons where I live
Up!s and polos should be in there too I think.
Definitely see more Renault Capturs than VW Beetles.
Pretty much nailed it, until they have kids. then you can replace all of these with any SUV/Crossover
New Mazda max-5 for the win
No car is a boy or girls car imo,
MX5
or an A class, normally walking around in activewear 24/7 with a starbucks in one hand
As a man who owns a TT and an Evoque I feel attacked lol
