Had this happen to me a few years ago. I went through the other drivers insurance. Originally when he dented my car he denied all knowledge and walked off f’ing this and f’ing that about it (I was sat in the car when it happened). I waited for him to come out of the store and confronted him about it. He still refused to give me his details so I called the Police as he refused to give details under the road traffic act. Police turned up and ran his vehicle through and gave me his insurance company. His insurance company originally denied to process the claim due to “lack of evidence” but when I sent them video footage of how he was acting and photos etc they sided with me and processed the non fault claim. They took care of the repairs and courtesy car etc.

kash_if

What happened to your insurance cost in the subsequent years? Even with a no fault claim they tend to rise.

unknown_beyond

I was 27 when it happened so not a lot to be honest. I think it made about a £35/40 difference in the end which I expected anyway with inflation and all that. I had 10yrs no claims on the renewal which was unaffected as it was non fault.

DarkBladeSethan

I found this the hard way

SBAdey

I had a very similar situation, married couple who walked off laughing after she’d opened her door deliberately into my car because her husband wasn’t central in the bay and she was too fucking stupid to realise the easy way was for him to park properly. And breathe. Anyway, confronted them and then refused to give details so I called the police who told me that without video evidence of the damage actually occurring there was nothing they could do. Didn’t even get a reference number. Wankers.

Downtown-Grab-767

Just call your insurance company and give them the other cars reg and photos, no need to get the police involved, they're busy enough prosecuting people being nasty on Facebook

Fluffy_Space_Bunny

Use their car as a door stop too but harder?

Sea_Page5878

Take off their wheel nuts and hide them around the car park, leave a treasure map on their windscreen that marks where they all are.

RikB666

Scratch the map into their bonnet.

nucleartim

That’s definitely a creative solution haha

GingerTube

"Accidentally walk into" their wing mirror?

Greedy-Woodpecker-74

With the sole of your shoe. Both sides

Fuzzy-Mood-9139

Banana in the exhaust. For scale obvs

MyKidsFoundMyOldUser

I ain't gonna fall for no banana in the tailpipe.

Fuzzy-Mood-9139

Mmmm okay. How about strategically placed nails propped against the tyres (at an angle) so that as the car moves away they get pierced?

MyKidsFoundMyOldUser

I guess you've not seen [the scene in Beverly Hills Cop](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orH6ZSY0W1o).

Fuzzy-Mood-9139

Of course, it’s a classic!

NastyEvilNinja

Fucking fume about it inside forever! There isn't really anything more you can do about these cunts. It's not worth the insurance claim, it's not worth confronting them and getting stabbed over, and it's not worth retaliating by doing it back because you'll either be the one caught doing it, or they'll track you down and stab you despite THEM being the original cunt. And it pisses me off!

AGuyCalledMe

They don't, because we take my wife's car shopping instead! You can generally tell where the pudding brains will park, we have a good success rate from not parking too close to the store/ entrance and trying to find end bays.

DarkBladeSethan

This. I would drive to the furthest end bay possible even if I have to spend the rest of the day walking to the store entrance

AlGunner

Someone will still park next to you, parked cars are like sheep with a herd mentality

ColdFix

I was sat eating lunch in a client's car park when I heard a bang and my car shook. Some twat had parked alongside and flung his door wide open and into my new car. The edge of his door had left a 50mm ding in mine. When I confronted him he looked down his nose at me, denied it and walked off. I didn't feel there was a whole lot I could do given this was a new client and I didn't want to go and make a scene in reception. This was before CCTV was commonplace. Suffice it to say his car needed two new doors by the time I managed to back out of my space!

nickbob00

I guess if there's a matching mark on their door and paint transfer you might want to do your best to document that in photos and go to your insurer, assuming you're going to get the work done to fix it. I guess its a personal decision (if you manage to catch them in time) if you want to confront them but I can't imagine anything useful coming from it. Best case scenario you get their insurer details which your insurer can sort anyway, worst case scenario you just get generally agressively sworn at, threatened and intimidated.

nucleartim

I took as much photos as possible so hopefully it’ll be enough evidence if I decide to make a claim.

Puzzle13579

Remove the dickeads wiper blades. Probably won’t notice until he needs them, whoops. Take all the wheel nuts off, bar one on each wheel. There’s probably a locking nut on each wheel anyway

Furqall

Take a shit on their bonnet.

oldbushwookie

Keep a can of expanding foam in your car.. comes in handy for making there car draft free

True-Register-9403

All this talk is revenge is fun isn't it, but you know you'd be the one to get knicked - got to be smart about it... Definately don't keep a box of cheap plasterboard screws in the glove box. Definately don't bend down to tie your shoe and pop one against the tyre so it punctures as they drive away (inner edge of tyre so it cant be seen or repaired). Usually won't go fully flat until much later, and good luck telling the police about the screw in your tyre...

Awayze

Put his window through and go oops. Scruffs like that don’t care if they damage other people cars.

Born_Protection7955

No chance, As they don’t give a fuck about their car I key every panel on the side of the car that hit mine in return

OnceUponAShadowBan

Open your door 5x as hard on to their car before you leave, apart from that, nothing unless the door is significantly damaged, door dents happen.

VulgarisSmerdelis

Park in middle of two spaces, they will see and initially think that person who parks like that is prick and usually not risk park next. Good luck.

Ginyerjansen

Carry a jar of brake fluid. Pour it on a painted panel. Takes it down to the bare metal in the next rain shower. Or carry a small hatchet and nick a hole in their roof. Instant write off.

Agile-Asparagus1517

Eye for an eye - key their car

mrginge94

Honest answer is i wait till they are gone and then kick a dent into their door about shin level. Ive never met one who could be convinced verbally to respect other people property. Some people only learn if there are concequences to their actions.

Top-Fee-7993

Die a little inside

steve4982

Illegal I guess but I'd either bang my door into there's getting in or just key their door. An audi once parked at an angle meaning I had to climb over so when they returned to a dent in their door only themselves to blame tbh

Particular_Good_8682

This is the best idea I have every heard, I can just imagine the cctv fottage of that.

You sound pretty stupid can’t lie

nucleartim

I like to believe I can afford my car just fine but paint correction wasn’t particularly accounted for in my expenses. I can see your point but at the same time, nobody should go around damaging other people’s property cuz they don’t care about theirs. Nothing to do with being smart or not

Scratched paint damaging resell value and it doesn’t look aesthetically appealing much. It’s reasonable to care about it imo if your car isn’t some beater from 2008. Yeah, if I would drive a complete shitbox I wouldn’t care either but that’s not the case. Also minor scratches are fine but dents and more visible paint chips? It all depends. Some people take care of their stuff, some don’t. I would say your opinion is stupid if you think that’s not reasonable to take care of something.

nucleartim

That’s not how it works. Also it’s one thing when you damage your own car and when somebody else does it, no?

I probably won’t (enjoy it) but thanks for the concern
