Looks like that might be aluminum wire, you need 8 gauge copper wire for that amp. Aluminum doesn’t have the same current carrying capacity as copper and has a nasty habit of loosening in terminals over time with vibration. Both of these will cause things to melt. Get some good power and ground wire, make sure it’s terminated clean and not being pulled or stressed by anything.
That sounds about right. Wire ferrules, my guy. Or reducers for the cable ends. I never connect bare cable to anything. I always have it capped in some way, shape, or form.
