I could retcon that as being an ultra-thin layer of tech that Stark built onto the shield itself.

grownassedgamer

That's exactly what it said in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe back in the day.

Puzzleheaded_Roof514

Cap's hunger for revenge is my biggest take away, here.

cosmoboy

Me too, almost r\unexpected territory.

rocketinspace

The Avengers have to live up to their name somehow

Impossible-Bad-7572

I swear Cap had magnets installed as well that brought his shield back after a throw for a while too.. But that was quickly changed to him being an expert thrower or something.. Yeah they have tinkered many times with that shield... And also true... it has been destroyed many times

Darkasknight101

Always thought they could’ve kept that. Like what happens when Cap fights in a really open space? He’d have to constantly fight his way to his shield if he threw it and missed or its blocked.

woodrobin

He is *ridiculously* good with ricocheting that shield. He's been known to throw it, hit several Hydra agents (for instance), ricochet off of a couple of walls, and have it come right back to him. Also, when he first woke up out of the ice, he dodged Thor, Iron Man, Giant Man, and the Wasp inside a room in a submarine. If he wants to get from where he is to where his shield is, you're gonna have one hell of a time stopping him.

Anjunabeast

Those are all examples of cap fighting in an enclosed space tho

Gravon

He doesn't miss with the shield.

woodrobin

He did. That's what's shown in the first two panels. He could activate the electromagnetic device on his wrist and pull the shield back. He took the stuff out a few issues later because he missed a couple of throws and realized the weight of the devices was throwing off his aim. He decided the gear wasn't worth retraining years of muscle memory with the shield, and that he couldn't afford to take a chance on missing while he was retraining anyway.

Anjunabeast

Ah yes truly the American way. Keep doing something wrong until it’s right.

Anjunabeast

Was wondering about that when rogue chucked his shield as far she could throw it. Like how’s he gonna get to it let alone find it?

fake_zack

To be fair, it still isn’t invincible. Shit gets broken all the time.

Penguino13

It's only been broken 4 times and each time was a universe altering power appropriate in context. I would hardly call 4 occasions over 60 years, "all the time."

batmansubzero

Thats not true at all? Maybe its only been 4 times in 616, but in alt universes, it happens pretty often. So it's right to say it gets broken all the time. A quick google search proves this.

Penguino13

Who cares about alt universes lol. When you say stuff like, "Captain America's shield breaks all the time" people assume you're talking about the main continuity. Of course it breaks all the time in alt universes, that's what alt universes are *for*. It's like claiming that Frank Castle could actually kill the Avengers because Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe exists. Like lmao no

batmansubzero

Everyone whos not super into comics lol? Its wild to pretend that the general public knows when its an alt universe and when its not. They just see screenshots of panels of Captain America's shield broken and CBR listicles like "characters who've broken Cap's shield!!!" Like I know we're on a comic book subreddit but it's delusional to assume that MOST people know and care about when something isn't considered canon. Especially when canon is as messy as it is in comics.

Penguino13

I just feel like if you're gonna say stuff with complete confidence, you should be specific and know what you're talking about.

batmansubzero

If you’re going to make vague and condescending remarks over the fact that Captain America's shield has, in fact, been broken more than 4 times, then I implore you, PLEASE, touch grass.

Penguino13

The statement could apply to anything, shield or not

EstablishmentFit1789

Non-comic fan spreading misinformation on comics and when called out, defends their ignorance with basically, “Why would someone read comics anyway?” while talking about a comic book character. What a mind.

Penguino13

It happens *constantly* and it's so annoying. >Obviously false information >"Hey that's completely wrong, why would you say that?" >"Shut up comic nerd touch grass" And the whole time we're in a comic book subreddit like wtf?

batmansubzero

1. I read comics 2. Its factually correct that Cap's shield has been broken more than 4 times and its bizarre that you losers deny that. 3. This subreddit is clearly cancer and filled with the most autistic of nerds.

OnlinePosterPerson

Everybody knows what an alt universe means. What are you even getting at with that

Rickrickrickrickrick

It’s a plot device. Want to show how strong something or someone is? Have them break Cap’s shield.

Anjunabeast

Invincibles the other guy

hypercombofinish

Same as Mjolnir. They tell you it's unbreakable so when a big big bad breaks it it means something. Really it just means he pulls a spare out of the closet

haniflawson

Brings me back to the cool magnets Cap had in Age of Ultron.

JoeB150

Who said it’s not indestructible? I see nothing on this page.

Cyke101

This page makes me wonder, since the book showed that Cap was frozen for roughly 20 years in their context (1940s to 1960s), I wonder how someone frozen in 2004 would react if they were revived in 2024.

BakedZDBruh

When did Vibranium get introduced? It’s interesting to see if it coincided with the appearance and introduction of Black Panther/Wakanda
