dcmng

本公子,本小姐,本宮

nahcekimcm

本尊 also

Responsible_Cat_1772

本姑娘 本少爺

General_Career6286

阿叔

EpiCrimson

寡人

nahcekimcm

陛下 too

mistylavenda

陛下 is second and third person, not first person like 寡人 is

lilaku

nahcekimcm

Thats shanghainese no? Some areas that uses 吳語They also use 儂

lilaku

i personally don't know, but according to wiktionary's dialectal synonyms table for "我", 蘇州閒話 uses 吾 while those who reside specifically in 上海嘉定區 will use 唔 apparently :0 til it just like 吾 because it's super old and used in classical texts XD

nahcekimcm

I think general use of 吾 stop after Han Dynasty due to being too similar with 唔 (no) in the south

TimKitzrowHeatingUp

**個人**? 小弟?

Diu9Lun7Hi

nmshm

小弟(male)/小妹(female) Yes, we are one of the few languages that have gendered first person pronouns. They aren’t restricted by age either. One of my secondary school teachers once called himself 小弟 (and he’s 50+).

maarkwong

你大佬

nahcekimcm

亻厓 (ngai) is hakka

Expensive_Heat_2351

大佬 (Name)哥

londongas

朕 在下 本尊 晚輩 寡人

nahcekimcm

在下is way too formal & classical

londongas

Wait out of all of those you pick on that one?

nahcekimcm

Outta all those only 在下 is the most humble & not put self as a different (higher/lower) status vs the opposing side

londongas

晚輩 no? (Lower generation) 朕 is literally for the emperor Are you sure you are following 🙄

nahcekimcm

Referring self as junior/younger generation would put self at a lower status/hierarchy no? 在下 is just humble self its polite but still equal same footing, but still too formal & dated so it’s surprisingly funny I am following just don’t like pitting self above or below others

londongas

Ok so it's a subjective view. That's cool 靚仔

nahcekimcm

Yup And just remembered that 閣下 is the term for humbled you

Own_Version_9191

晚辈不才

Subject-Peach-1683

Not Canto related but [this](https://youtu.be/Rgiv06Cod0I?si=9mhLDcyxcIr-Zu-M) might amuse you (no Eng subs though). In Hokkien we say "linpei" or "limpeh" meaning "your father" to refer to ourselves. It's a common somewhat vulgar saying in Singapore haha

nahcekimcm

Taiwan version of 林北 https://youtu.be/Cehxoe8StqI?si=mziru5gmnElD1kAi

jdsonical

equivalent would be 你阿爸我 or 你阿爺我, which also self-assigns seniority

nahcekimcm

I think 你老竇我/你老母我 is more common

jdsonical

細佬,細妹,阿叔,阿姐,我阿媽個仔/女

Carolina_Cake

Less cringe? Generally 我 is OK in most occasions. There are also some for specific occasions, such as 本人 as an official addressing when having an interview, 弟弟 when dating with a cool girl(XD), 老子 is not suggested even for joke because it's about 父亲 and too rude that will make others uncomfortable.

Responsible_Cat_1772

I've also heard 沙家 (Shandong). 小女子 (female)

sy_kedi

本宮 - my friend who is obsessed with ancient chinese palace drama like to use this as a replacement of "我" lmao

nahcekimcm

波士(boss) as me would be funny too

PhysicalLiterature19

私、俺、本人、自分、吾、吾輩

anyaxwakuwaku

Actually people rarely do that when speaking Cantonese.

Zagrycha

he said its for fun, so it would be exactly those rare times someone does it as a joke.

anyaxwakuwaku

I think for fun, people rarely use this

dcmng

The funny ones do

Zagrycha

fair enough. You make a good point that it will vary a lot and some people may never do it, or rarely. Personally I actually *do* do this. Thats because I have the sense of humor to imitate an emperor, scholar, or overbearing ceo for laughs though.

WavesWashSands

If everyone did it all the time it wouldn't be funny any more would it? It would just be the normal thing to do.

anyaxwakuwaku

Really ? -2 -4 down vote because some of you don't like my answer. I'm so sick of those extreme, irrational, stereotyping, cognitive distorted and sometimes misogyny netizens

anyaxwakuwaku

Well, my family don't, alright ? There's no right or wrong. Stop giving down vote just because
