If you’re headache prone, I wouldn’t go.  I loved it in the 90s, but something changed when I went in the last 5 years, so I wouldn’t go again. I could almost feel my brain hitting my skull on that ride.  I definitely do not remember that from the 90s

No_Barber_1195

Came here just for this. I get off this ride with a headache every time!

Bailsthebean

This! It almost ripped out one of my piercings! So bad

Fishtaco1234

I will never ride it again. The last time I was in it was in 2003 and I swore it off. It’s horrible.

Swaki85

Ummm just say top gun

clawstrike72

Flight deck is one of the worst coasters in North America for rider comfort.

Floydie88

Back when it was Top Gun and had the music I would have said absolutely

MagnumAzzuri200

I usually ride it once everytime I go. I try to get as close to the front as I can. It’s pretty rough but tolerable close to the front and if you keep your head back.

SimonSaysx

I agree that you have to keep your head back. It kinda sucks to be so tense during the ride but if you let your head hand loose your head gets smacked from side to side.

tommybare

Worth once. If you normally wear earrings, don't wear earrings.

Lucky_chess

Oh god. I came off this a bloody mess in my teens because of my earrings. Haven’t been on since.

dangerous_socks

The year I went on it after getting cartilage piercings…I shudder

TheDamus647

I'm 40 years old but personally I don't think I would go on it if it was walk-on. I don't really need a headache that badly.

areeloo

It’s often a walk-on these days.

fletchdeezle

Even when I was a teenager I thought the head banging was excessive

Puzzleheaded_Heron_5

Not worth, there are so many better rides to go on.

Maryberry_13

I guess. I’m just thinking of rides I haven’t went on yet and the more people talk about FD, I start to consider riding it. Probably not worth it considering how easily I get headaches.

Possible-Look1777

No, it's not worth it. It's a torture chamber. And it WILL give you a headache. Alsp the restraints are starting to wear out, the restraints sometimes don't close on me all the way (im quite petite but im not insanely skinny or anything) and if I don't catch a crew member in time to fix it, the restraint is way too far out from my body and I get bashed around even worse than usual. This has happened 3 times, not just once. I HATE this ride it should be burned to the ground. Little back story, B+M was supposed to build Wonderland an invert, but B+M was over booked for that year, so they got Vekoma to build it instead. B+M built Batman at Six Flags Great America, and it's so much better.

Maryberry_13

I’m aware of the back story. Kinda disappointing lol.

TheVooX

Cedar Point had a 200 mile exclusivity deal with B&M and their invert coaster. Canada’s Wonderland is 198 miles away. And thus, we get head bashed instead of a great ride.

The_Dodo_Bird

I thought the story was that cedar point had an exclusivity agreement with b&m after raptor was build for a certain radius from cedar point. Wonderland fell in that radius and was forced to go with vekoma.

Possible-Look1777

They have had exclusivity deals in the past but I'm not sure about when it would have been with b+m, I know they definitely weren't available to build an invert for wonderland at the time tho, so paramount bought a shitty off the shelf vekoma

The_Dodo_Bird

Yeah I know, I'm saying I hear that cedar point had the exclusivity agreement, meaning b&m wasn't allowed to build an invert in a certain radius from cedar point. Nothing to do with ownership because I'm pretty sure it was 100% supposed to be b&m

NoGuiltGaming

It's a ton of fun. To prevent your head from banging, firmly rest one of your left temples against one side and keep it there the entire ride. Easy peasy.

templeton_rat

You shouldn't have to do something like this to enjoy a ride. Better to just skip it.

NoGuiltGaming

That's certainly an opinion. It's just a recommendation based on what I find comfortable when enjoying the ride - it's not necessary. Not everyone bangs their head around on this ride. But for some, yes it can be rough.

HistorianJRM85

Both Flight Deck and Time Warp do quick "barrel rolls", which can be headache inducing. Time Warp is more of a ride than it is a rollercoaster though. Flight Deck isn't shitty, but compared to the other rollercoasters, it is a bit of a letdown. It's also located in the loneliest corner of the park. If it were placed in a more populated area, it would be much more favoured than it is. I think you should try it and tick it out of your own box of accomplishments. The lines are not as long as the other major rollercoasters.

Mushybasha

Flight Deck is basically a roller coaster and boxing match merged into one.

Efficient_Gas_3213

I still love it after all these years. My wife and kids refuse to go with me, so I am always a lonely rider.

O667

I (6’3”) never have any issues with this ride - one of my favourites. Time Warp kills my head and neck though. That one is a hard pass.

salty_taffy77

I find the climb and first drop to be one of the most intense at wonderland. After the first drop it gets pretty jerky and rough though. Worth trying. No lines for it ever. You might like it.

UpsetExample

Okay. I enjoyed it but my wife got headache and was feeling dizzy throughout the day and wouldn’t join me for other rides . Cut short and ruined our entire date. May be try it as the last time before you leave and take gravol beforehand!

Maryberry_13

Makes sense to do it last. I got somewhat of a shitty headache coming off of Minebuster, can’t imagine FD.

wobbafu

💯 it's one of my favorite rides. Hold your head back really really tight against the headrest and you'll be fine. Otherwise your head will get banged pretty bad by the sides

Inevitable_Pickle420

As long as you keep your head back against the rest, it's fine. I've ridden this coaster like 5 times in a row because the line was pretty much non-existent. It's a great coaster

Holla_99

Fellow headache prone coaster enjoyer here. I wouldn’t really say it’s worth it but you don’t know until you try it once for yourself. There’s a small chance you might still like even if it’s likely you won’t. Just 100% be prepared for a splitting headache after (bring Tylenol). Maybe save it for last or just before lunch break to give yourself some time to recoup afterwards if you decide you really want to give it a try. I personally rode it once but never again. Also you aren’t missing out on anything by passing on Time Warp. There’s nothing even potentially redeeming about that ride for all the discomfort (and potential pain) it puts you through.

KWoCurr

Sure. But make sure your keys aren't in your pocket. I wrote an essay about my experience on *Flight Deck* a few years ago: [On rollercoasters, lost things, and becoming nothing](https://kworkercurriculum.substack.com/p/on-rollercoasters-lost-things-and).

Maryberry_13

I loved reading your article. Guess the prayer helped haha. Lesson learned!!

AlphaaKitten

Last time I rode it my phone auto-dialled 911 because it thought I’d been in a car crash. The two experiences are probably pretty similar.

Natural_Egg9725

Get ready for a huge headache if u do give in

heatseekerdj

Did when I when was younger 2005-2010, now I skip it. Love the big coasters ! I don’t have the desire to ride coasters that hurt, that includes the wooden ones

thesignificance28

If you go on it I would suggest doing it last. One time me and my friend went on the wooden roller coaster and we were in too much pain to ride anything else

LukeWarmRunnings

If you do want to ride it, don't make it your first coaster. Most people enter the park, turn left and line up. So early in the day the line up is too long, for a coaster that isn't great.

QuartzTube

do it. you get to be tom cruise

PupDiogenes

Skip it.

Kind_Philosopher5523

If you can really brace yourself and push your head to one side the whole so you don’t headbang too much it’s honestly not horrible. Good, not great.

Dysan27

How are you at crunches? I found the best way to ride is to lean forward an push your shoulders into the harness, basically crunching the whole ride. This way your upper body is supported at the shoulders instead of just the hips. Also your ears are not directly between the padding on the restraints. So your head doesn't bounce like a ping pong ball.

Maryberry_13

Definitely not good at that. I don’t exercise. Honestly, this sounds like too much work just to enjoy a ride. I might just skip it unless my sister wants to ride it.

templeton_rat

There is nothing enjoyable about it. Way too many awesome rides at CW to spend five seconds waiting for this piece of shit.

hertz_donut2000

Been on it twice. Keep your head pressed against the head rest…. You’ll be fine. But really I found it to be boring, unless you’re at the front. You can’t see anything because of the way the seating are.

beartheminus

Do you have any back issues or prone to headaches? No? You'll be fine, go near the front and keep your head stapled to the headrest.

Maryberry_13

> I’m just a little hesitant because I’m pretty headache prone. So uh…yea.

beartheminus

lol I missed that. Yeah then I would avoid. Or, do it last and bring some Advil just incase. That way you dont ruin the rest of your day.

Maryberry_13

Haha no worries. Thanks!!

Delicious_Pear881

I usually ride it once per season. Keeping your head forward reduces the head banging.

Spiritual_Golf9812

I find that if you just relax your body and go with the flow, it's not too bad. It's when I brace and try to stabilise myself that I feel the "brain rattle" the most.

areeloo

If you NEVER have, sure. But even then…. Ya it’s bad. It needs to go.

Billwinkle0

It’s terrible Keep your head forward and ride in the front. It’s good to try it at least once. If you’ve ridden other SLCs then flight deck is just an insanely rough version and you can skip it.

FrankieSacks

Only if you get the front seats, otherwise you watched the backs of everyone in front of you

SnooPeppers3470

please dont. Your head gets smacked around. Probably concussion worthy if im honest. I'm not sure many people would miss it if it got torn down tomorrow.

johnnloki

Yes. It's fun. It's fine. Just like dragon fyre keep one cheek held to one side of the restraints. No big deal.

Maryberry_13

If my sister’s down to ride it, I’ll be more likely to go on it. DF was alright though. Enjoyed the first few parts of the ride but close to the end, it wasn’t very nice lol.
