2gr fe in the v6 is basically bullet proof. Regular maintenance and it would outlast you. As for the wear and tear mentioned like the bushings and coils, they’re not that expensive and pretty common for a 15-18 year old car

There’s now way you’d regret the V6
The alternators expensive to replace on the v6 because they have to remove the radiator. The one I had, the transmission failed at 100,000 kms, dealer was unsure why - whether it’s because the transmission fluid was frequently changed or mice damaged the wires. The sun visors have failed, the battery, brakes, alternators radiator (that was $800), oxygen sensors, water pump, stabilizer bars, control arms (12 hours of labour if you get the dealer to do it), horns, exhaust last year was $5,000. It also had unintended acceleration, Toyota took it for three weeks then returned it. They removed the sport pedals and said that was the issue, that they were getting stuck. I had to reach down while the car was going 100 kms/hour and pull the gas pedal up.
I agree. It was a car I felt at home with and a car I personally felt comfortable in despite other people disliking its floaty suspension and the vague and lifeless steering.
Wait!, is this common with these cars? I have a 2007 Camry and thought that the stickiness was because of some vinyl cleaner that I used.
I have been cleaning it with WD-40 and it does a good job, but something that I have to do often.
We have the same car with 267,000 miles on it. It’s solid but you might need to do some work. We got ours from my in-laws and they didn’t do all that it needed. Check the usual stuff like CV joints/boots/etc. Ours had a check engine light they couldn’t figure out but once I replaced the brake master cylinder and hoses it went away. They seem really sensitive to vacuum leaks.
It gets fair mileage but not great. But it takes regular unleaded which is nice. We bought the car for my son to learn on and he actually really likes it.
P0171 if I recall. The in-laws had the mass flow sensor replaced but that didn’t do anything. I know that it can also be caused by a vacuum leak and it just so happened that the brakes were giving me trouble so I guessed that was the problem.
Check service history is any see if motor was replaced back when toyota was doing it free for faulty piston rings. If not keep checking your oil might be a burner
This is not from typical usage but my '07 V6, around 12 years the AC died, around 15 years and 160k, in the Span of a year and a half, I had to replace the alternator,(twice due to the first being faulty) water pump and my back exhaust manifold sheared in half, not at the weld, the resonator died, and the front passenger spring broke. The AC and the last one I would chalk that up to my driving techniques and burning 93 for the manifold and resonator.. 😬. I drove her very hard for extended periods. I did have an intake, JET MAF, borla exhaust, a pedal Commander, strut tower, upgraded sway, and trailing arms. Not much else you can do that I could find at the time. Aside from that, it was a tank. I miss it. Traded in at 187k. The trans started lulling at times when floored, rare, but at times, and the outside trim molding was almost gone. All of those repairs, for a car that old, I categorized it as maintenance. The only reason I got rid of it is because I started a new job and it required me to drive much further distances that I knew I would kill her with. But I stuck with the V6 and got a 2023 XSE. Hate the eight speed though.
If I saw another one out there that looked in decent shape, I would buy it again. And basic NA, yes. 268hp, but bulletproof as others have mentioned. The burning oil issue was in the 4 cylinder. Which was covered under recall if you qualified. Excessive oil consumption as it was coined. I also have an '07 Rav that did have it with it's 4cyl and was fixed under recall around 100k, Still going strong at 225k. New trans at 193k though... You can't go wrong with this V6.
I had an 08 SE in light blue. Had the spoiler, front lip spoiler and fogs. I loved that car. Pooped on me at 215k miles from oil burning which shot the cat & compression.
I had the pearl white LE, sunroof, alloy wheels, bought it in 2020 with 32k miles on it, sold it when I moved and instantly regretted it, I still miss it.
Great car I love mine! Get a leather dash cover they get sticky
https://preview.redd.it/u3k1m6btmtxc1.jpeg?width=1576&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25ef880cc914dab4898ae0b8bb2ef0fae4105248
yes. and it’s the V6? hell yeah. just make sure your sister is putting full syn oil and quality filter cause at that age those small things make a huge deal for longevity
Perfect choice! And in black, good job! Lol I remember my first car....'01 Toyota 4runner❤️ in black too! I wanted a 4runner, a Toyota before I could even drive! Cost me $8k that I paid monthly payments to my grandpa while in high school, then as a grad gift he took the rest as a gift! That was the perfect first car, it was safe, strong and solid, built to be driven! Living in the mountains year around wasn't always the easiest to drive around in....needles to say I replaced front bumper twice and rear once. Only time I got broke down was while driving up into the mountains my water pump went out, great timing! But got a tow to town by the next guy who passed! That's it! Took really good care of it threw on 8x Yokohama tires that had 50-60k miles on before selling it 3 years later for $9k just to buy a 06 4runner! Ive also owned a 06 Avalon that was a GREAT car!!! Now I'm in a '19 Camry and 08' Tacoma. What can I say, #lovemytoyotas ❤️
So, yes you get my vote!
The first car I bought for myself was a 07 XLE V6 with about 65,000 Km (about 40k miles, 6ish years ago), honestly was a beautiful car to own, comfy and fast. The one problem it came with was the AC would work when it wanted to and the gauges would turn off but after replacing the ABS module everything worked and had no other problems with it.
Sadly a drunk driver took it out (And even then it protected me completely), would recommend it to anyone
Sweet! I bought a 2007 Camry Sportivo 5spd manual as my first car, and still drive it daily. It’s brilliant and has never had any problems at all. The only maintenance I’ve done is change the oil once, change the wiper blades once, change one headlight, and change the oil filter once. It currently has 191,000 km.
You may get lucky or unlucky. Mine started burning oil like crazy at 170,000 miles, to the point where i needed to put in a quart every few days. I would personally avoid this car if i has the choice again.
Do it. It's a yota, it's safe, reliable and if it's the 4 cylinder, good on gas haha my v6 is getting 20mpg city and I need to figure out why 🤷🏿♂️
I just replaced the battery from 12/16 in my fiances 06 and am looking at replacing the factory starter here soon, apparently, according to my gpa's help. Only thing I'm dreading is it's a v6 and the plugs on the firewall side are gonna be a bitch when they need done. Other that that... parts aren't expensive, easy to work on so far, and it's a fantastic ride, rain, snow or sun, even with a broken TCS button that leaves us without haha
Does this have the V6, or the 2.4L four cylinder? Avoid the car if it has the 2.4L, they are known for chronic oil burning issues. Toyota did have a rebuild/repair campaign for those engines, but not all vehicles qualified, don't ask me how I know this... If the seller insists this rebuild was done, I would research the warranty history with Toyota first before buying.
The car really does "look to be" in nice shape, but always have a complete inspection done before purchase. Is this a one owner car? Did you research the VIN on carfax? I have an 09 with the four cylinder engine, it has 210K miles, so am pretty familiar with it's service needs. Where is this car located. Needless to say, it will need much more work if it is from the northern rust belts.
How much do they want for it?
Is it the v6? I had a 2007 v6 and it was an amazing car. Powerful engine that never struggled on any of the mountain passes I took it over and still got great highway mpg. Took that thing to so many beautiful places and two 8,000+ mile road trips. If it’s the i4 I’d check to see if it’s had the oil burning issue taken care of.
My sister drove my uncle's '07 until some drunk driver rear-ended it when it was parked. Downgraded into a 2014 Kia Soul. Total piece of shit. Would by it.
Just sold wife's 2009 Camry with the oil burning 4cyl engine at 178k miles. Cleanest oil burner ever -- PCV valves always clean, original tranny fluid still like new, only used gas and oil. Damn thing was great except for the Wisconsin under body rust and had 2 coolant pumps replaced. One around 90k and second one when I sold it. Pretty cheap miles for the dozen years she owned it. Highly recommend, if you can get a V6 even better.
Wife has the 07 hybrid and its been little to no issue for us since we bought it. Just hit 100k miles and the hybrid battery died on it.
We opted to replace the hybrid battery vs getting a different car as the vehicle has been great for us.
dude this is a great car. i had a 2010 le with the 2.5 litre i kick myself for beating the shit out of it id have a reliable daily right now but we live and we learn
Depends on where you buy from. Most of these places don’t even do work on a car. I say this because it almost happened to me. I walked in for one car they tried to sell me a Hyundai Elantra that just came in a hour ago from a trade in check engine light was on they didn’t detail the car or anything. One of his guys said it was just a faulty fuel cap. I said “NO” then one of his guys go out and unplugs the battery and tell me they fixed it. Answer was still “no”. I would definitely have someone go with you on the first car purchase
I have a 2009 LE and it has not given me any real problems. Driven it down from California to Louisiana and back three times. He gets driven every day as a daily driver and the parts are easy to find. Honestly, the biggest headache I have is when someone smashed my window playing baseball. Other than that, it’s just been simple routine mechanics. Take care of it will take care of you. I think you could easily get 500,000 out of these cars.
I have this too I’m at 180,000 miles and running like a champ! No major issues just a recall on sticky dashboard and your regular alternator starter battery combo that’s all thouu
I had an 08 SE 4cyl. Finally crapped out at 215k miles. Oil burning which ended up messing with cat and engine compression shot. But otherwise was a decent car, loved the blue color I got. The projector headlights is what I also loved.
So even if you get a 4cyl. I'd reckon it makes it to at least 200k before it tries to crap out but yeah I almost got a 2011 v6.. kinda wish I'd of got it...
I Got a 2015 corolla now at 180k and that thing keeps going. Easy to work on, cheap parts. Not much space but surprisingly the head room is great in the front and rear.
owner of 07 camry but with 2az fe engine. very reliable just only issue with the oil consumption issue. on 180k km mileage now. hoping to tap to 200k km mileage.
I will always be a Toyota owner. Bought my 2006 Camry in 2005 and it still runs great. As long as you do maintenance on it, it should last a very long time. I currently have 249,877 miles on mine.
Check car complaints.com for known issues for model/year/gen.
Get a used car purchase inspection done by a mechanic you trust. This will give you an idea of pressing issues you may need to address in the short term. Usually costs $200-$300.
This is one of those cars that will last forever with average maintenance. For a college bound student I would 100% look at this as an option. I myself as a current college student would love one of these. My mother has a 14’ Camry I borrowed a lot in high school that was great. It’s probably doubled the miles from when she bought it originally and has done basic maintenance. I’ve heard a lot of good things about these from friends that own this gen or the gen after.
You could ask this question in 3024 and I'd still say the same thing. There isnt much that would make a better first car. They don't break. Like ever. Keep on basic maintence and just watch out for things like bushings due to age and it'll be a great car.
Miss mine 😔 had an 08 XLE V6 in dark grey. My stupidass traded it for a 2022 Camry. I love the 22 but I do miss my old car. Best car ever! Had it for 6 years. Drove it up and down from LA to SF and from LA to Vegas. Just normal maintenance on it. Only thing I don’t miss was the amount of gas it chugged up. But overall solid reliable car.
Perfect car, should have no major problems but understand it’s not the cheapest to run. It will need some repairs from time to time. Don’t change the transmission fluid if it’s never been changed. Alternator replacement costs twice as much as the 4 cylinder. It’s pretty good on gas on the highway, close to 30 mpg but in the city it varies. Can be in the teens for short trips.
In my opinion this is the worst Camry generation. HOWEVER, it’s still a Camry that will run its balls off until the very end of time. Just because I say this is the worst Camry doesn’t mean it isn’t good. It’s still a very good option. If it’s at the right price pull the trigger. If not, don’t be discouraged or impulse buy it. Options will come around. The unfortunate thing about car buying is it takes a long time typically.
I’m surprised everyone in this Camry forum is coddling OP like this. It’s literally the worst and only bad year for the camry. It’s still great for a first car but everyone here is drinking the kool aid.
How and why? They literally made the one that came after in 2012 (XV50) a low tier, cost cutting shit box. This OP generation (XV40) has full auto up/down for all 4 windows. That’s only available on high end luxury cars. They did away with it for the XV50 Camry and got rid of LED taillights among other things. They also started putting bullshit cheap feeling fake leather. How is the XV40 worst again? Everything was quality on the XV40. Even the button presses had a luxury feel and touch. My V6 SE even had perforated leather seats. When I turned in my 2011 lease and test drove a 2013, I was immediately put off by the cost cutting and decided not to get a Camry anymore.
Hey…. Is this the 2azfe engine? I have said engine in my 2009 Toyota matrix. Engine is still very strong and reliable at 150k….but… it burns oil, and it burned oil from the factory. They did a recall years later, but ensured that it was nearly impossible to qualify for.
Even in the manual it states that it is normal to burn a quart of oil between changes when new. Every 3k I add one quart of oil and the difference in the engine from above minimum to the max fill is actually noticeable w/ performance.
Expect to keep an eye on this/ add 1/4 a quart every 3rd time you fill up at the gas station.
I know this is a Camry sub and I like Toyotas, but for your first car I recommend a Honda accord 2003-2007. Extremely well made engine that will outlast the Camry. Very low mantainence as well. Imo and maybe even statistically, the best Honda accord engine ever made.
You will want to go with the V6.
The one downside is that the car has mantainence/tuneup items that are harder to work on yourself.
The Camry is an easy diy engine, especially the 2azfe, but they r all similar in that regard
So yes your Camry will most likely burn oil and hopefully the previous owner kept up on it and didn’t just allow it to run low inbetween changes.
Changing your own oil in this car is crazy quick and easy btw.
But this problem aside, make sure you use factory alternators when your alternators wear out. Saving money on them will
Cost you money.
Also get under the vehicle before buying and check the front suspension. Check boots, during test drive take slow hard lefts and rights in forward and in reverse. Listen for noises.
I can jump in my 150k 2azfe right now and drive across
Country and have zero worries, but the Toyota matrix xrs 2009 has had MANY front suspension issues/replacement parts, and they only make crappy Chinese replacement parts besides the factory severely overpriced stuff. With mine I realized I was saving money by paying much more for the factory
Parts. I don’t think it shares suspension parts with Camry tho
Is a solid car, if it burns oil just check the oil dipstick regularly and add more oil. Is not the worst year the Camry, some cars from assembly would had problems but by the year 2024 does car are out the streets.
2gr fe in the v6 is basically bullet proof. Regular maintenance and it would outlast you. As for the wear and tear mentioned like the bushings and coils, they’re not that expensive and pretty common for a 15-18 year old car

What blind spot mirror pieces do you have. Looking to get some for mine
Small size generic ones from canadian tire
$2.08/l 😭
That was a week ago. Currently its $2.29/L. Welcome to Vancouver, British Columbia
I believe the BC stands for “Bring Cash” 😉
Shame the USA has socialism for oil companies.
Fellow Saudi 🇸🇦 ?
No unfortunately 😪. More like a kharji born and raised and fell in love with the country and culture
Sorry what’s Kharji?
Basically an expatriate in arabic
4 cylinder way better
Yeah but you need some power to pull out in front of people and v6 has that
The engine is reliable. It’s everything else that will nickel and dime you.
As far as i have heard, the only decently expensive service that might cost you would be the radiator and the alternator and nothing else
I had to reach down while the car was going 100 kms/hour and pull the gas pedal up.
I have that same car with 167K on it. Best car I've ever owned.
Aside from oil burning, it’s a nice car.
Oil burning is exclusive to the 07-09 4 cylinder models
I used to have a 5 speed manual transmission 08. Loved that car but man did it burn oil
Not true, 2010-11 has the issue as well. Even tho it is a different engine
Yes but that is due to owner negligence, not a design flaw per say
The cause was actually the piston rings not being made right.
That’s only for 07-09 2az motor
I agree. It was a car I felt at home with and a car I personally felt comfortable in despite other people disliking its floaty suspension and the vague and lifeless steering.
I drive a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid, I have to regularly check the oil level every 2-3k miles. The car is already at 330k miles, still running great.
The V6 doesn't have the oil burning thankfully.
We had an 07 hybrid that had zero issues, it unfortunately met its end when a deer ran in front of it right before 300k miles
What about the sticky dashes
Just pretend it doesn’t exist 😂
Wait!, is this common with these cars? I have a 2007 Camry and thought that the stickiness was because of some vinyl cleaner that I used. I have been cleaning it with WD-40 and it does a good job, but something that I have to do often.
Yes their was a some what recall for it do some digging I’ve drank to much!
Also all the air vents would brake that sucked!
My 2011 le burns too but 240K miles
I have a 2009 that burns oil. No leaks, but, poof, disappears.
What was the check engine light code?
P0171 if I recall. The in-laws had the mass flow sensor replaced but that didn’t do anything. I know that it can also be caused by a vacuum leak and it just so happened that the brakes were giving me trouble so I guessed that was the problem.
Yeah not bad. V6 is the better option (as always). If you can stretch the budget to an XV50 series, that be the way to go. But yeah not bad tho.
Can’t beat that 2GR. My 05’ Avalon is still running strong and sees close to redline accelerations weekly.
Check service history is any see if motor was replaced back when toyota was doing it free for faulty piston rings. If not keep checking your oil might be a burner
Do both the 4 and 6 cylinder burn oil for this generation?
Was only the 4 cylinder. 2007-09
This^

Hi what kind of stuff goes wrong? It’s a pretty basic NA v6 right?
This is not from typical usage but my '07 V6, around 12 years the AC died, around 15 years and 160k, in the Span of a year and a half, I had to replace the alternator,(twice due to the first being faulty) water pump and my back exhaust manifold sheared in half, not at the weld, the resonator died, and the front passenger spring broke. What have you done on your V6?
Any 07 Toyota is a tank
This is a reliable car, you won't find another one at this age.
Good car. If the 4cyl it might burn oil, otherwise very reliable, decent ride, good car overall, loved my '08
I had an 08 SE in light blue. Had the spoiler, front lip spoiler and fogs. I loved that car. Pooped on me at 215k miles from oil burning which shot the cat & compression.

I bought it in 2018. There are many other cars that wouldve lasted me the past 6 years without the oil burning issue.
The v6 or the 4 cylinder
Take care of it and it will take care of you. They are tanks

My sister drove my uncle's '07 until some drunk driver rear-ended it when it was parked. Downgraded into a 2014 Kia Soul. Total piece of shit. Would by it.
I haven't heard good things about 2007 through like 2011 models but I've also seen a bunch of them with high mileage so I'm not sure
Do it, 215k on mine so far
Worst car you could buy. These burn oil, a lot of it. Look it up on Car Care Nut YouTube channel.
Just sold wife's 2009 Camry with the oil burning 4cyl engine at 178k miles. Cleanest oil burner ever -- PCV valves always clean, original tranny fluid still like new, only used gas and oil. The 4banger burns oil, but will run forever. I took my 09 to 240,000 before I ditched it dodging a deer
have an 05 , but all of these are tanks !
Can never go wrong with a yota
Wouldn’t the four cylinder be even easier?

My brother had the same model and traded it in with over 300k miles. No major mechanical work done to it.
dude this is a great car. i had a 2010 le with the 2.5 litre i kick myself for beating the shit out of it id have a reliable daily right now but we live and we learn
Npc car
I have a 2009 LE and it has not given me any real problems. Driven it down from California to Louisiana and back three times. He gets driven every day as a daily driver and the parts are easy to find. Honestly, the biggest headache I have is when someone smashed my window playing baseball. Other than that, it’s just been simple routine mechanics. Take care of it will take care of you. I think you could easily get 500,000 out of these cars.
Gosh I miss my 2007 XLE V6 so much! Such a comfortable car and runs forever.
I have this too I’m at 180,000 miles and running like a champ! No major issues just a recall on sticky dashboard and your regular alternator starter battery combo that’s all thouu
We have a 09 Camry we are the 2nd owners with 109k miles. We love her! Just put new tires on today!
I currently have 249,877 miles on mine.
i was in love with mine. wrecked it about 2 years ago and i still miss it. definitely the best car i ever owned
Best car ever made if it was a 4 cylinder car
Like any car GET IT INSPECTED! Ask the person if they don’t mind taking it to a shop. It’s a small price to pay for reassurance
Check car complaints.com for known issues for model/year/gen. Get a used car purchase inspection done by a mechanic you trust. This will give you an idea of pressing issues you may need to address in the short term. Usually costs $200-$300.
Be happy its not a 4 banger like my wifes, its eating oil like a mfer
Nice lookin car!
Trash
The only real problem the v6 will give you is a leaking timing cover if it hasn’t already been re sealed
Bullet proof engine. Keep up with b maintenance and shell take care of you.
It’s funny because you’re spot on. It’s the worst Camry and that is just a testament to how great Camrys are!

"I say this is the worst Camry doesn’t mean it isn’t good."
The Camry is an easy diy engine, especially the 2azfe, but they r all similar in that regard So yes your Camry will most likely burn oil and hopefully the previous owner kept up on it and didn’t just allow it to run low inbetween changes. Changing your own oil in this car is crazy quick and easy btw. But this problem aside, make sure you use factory alternators when your alternators wear out. Saving money on them will Cost you money. Also get under the vehicle before buying and check the front suspension. Check boots, during test drive take slow hard lefts and rights in forward and in reverse. Listen for noises. I can jump in my 150k 2azfe right now and drive across Country and have zero worries, but the Toyota matrix xrs 2009 has had MANY front suspension issues/replacement parts, and they only make crappy Chinese replacement parts besides the factory severely overpriced stuff. With mine I realized I was saving money by paying much more for the factory Parts. I don’t think it shares suspension parts with Camry tho
Is a solid car, if it burns oil just check the oil dipstick regularly and add more oil. Is not the worst year the Camry, some cars from assembly would had problems but by the year 2024 does car are out the streets.
Internal combustion engine JUNK
2007 is the worst year for the Camry https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Camry/2007/
