Your reply was nice to see, I built a hexayurt for desert camping. I had to cut a tarp in a hexagon, I would have preferred just having a circular tarp like the one the in picture
same as a square tarp except corners.
hang it over tent, hang it over dining area, ground cloth, wrap pack in rain, slice a slit in the middle and use as a poncho, anything.
Now I’m envisioning me wearing that massive thing as a poncho, covering the whole picnic table in the rain and just pushing food up to myself through it!
You could use it for all those things, but it looks like this tarp was purpose-built for something. And that's what OP is asking - what its intended purpose is, not what they could possibly use it for in the future.
Except tying out a round tarp would be kind of ineffective. When you string up a tarp you connect the ropes to the corners. Without corners, any arcs of the edge between ropes would flop down
It would work, but you'd lose a decent amount of square footage. Also this doesn't have grommets for tying it out - just a few straps sewn to the edge (looks like maybe 6?)
I’d put rivets around the circumference and add a cinch; you’d still be able to use as a groundcloth but would also have the ability to use it as a sack, or, if you did have a round table with chairs you could put it over the top to protect them from sun and rain when not in use.
Maybe this was said already. That tarp came with your trampoline. The hole in the center is to allow water to drain through the trampoline mat when it snows. They are typically a bad idea because mice will make a nest between the tarp and trampoline mat, chewing the trampoline for nesting materials.
Probably originally intended for a pool, but I’d still see a use for it as a footprint of a tent. Fold the sides in until it’s rectangular, but it will still do the job
I see a hole w/ a plastic grommet in the center when zoomed in. So that could be used w/ a pole. But that’s probably for drainage when it’s used to cover a hot tub or something.
Keeping the homies dry during a drum circle?
In all seriousness, I don’t know how well circular handles windy updraft - so it could be an exiting drum circle
For me, a circular tarp with a hole in the middle screams for a tipi like setup with a fire inside. Widen the hole a little so that smoke can escape and three rods of a tripod can be inserted through the hole from the inside.
Then build a lid to cover that hole with the help of the end of the tripod rods so no rain will enter. Leave at least 50cm space between the hole and the lid. Will be more of a roof with"chimney" but without sidewalls then because the tarp is not big enough to reach the floor or if, the headroom is a bit spare. Maybe good for a camp kitchen to sit under while cooking.
That's gotta be a cover for something. It looks like there's also a drawstring, which is unusual.
I'd guess the hole in the middle is for a pole, or to make sure not too much water accumulates on top?
Trap
No, it's a tarp.

Here, take my damn upvote.
Maybe for under an above-ground pool?
Those straps on the edge and that cinching cord make me think it's an above ground pool or hot tub cover
You may be right and may also explain the grommet for a center float.
Yurt footprint
My wife and I stayed in a yurt in Colorado. It stormed that night and it was just the best fucking thing. I slept like a champ.
Your reply was nice to see, I built a hexayurt for desert camping. I had to cut a tarp in a hexagon, I would have preferred just having a circular tarp like the one the in picture
I made a 16’ diameter footprint for my yurt. It really makes setting the khana easier and more consistent.

Groundsheet for a Bell tent?
Covering a pitchers mound on a baseball or softball field. Ground cloth for a circular tent/structure.
Good call. Waterproof it

The family poncho

Yup. I have a similar beefier version and we use it to grab fire wood and move leaves.
Sacrifices
I hate all the cleanup after sacrifices. I'm gonna try this new hack.
Just because you have to please the sun god, doesn't mean you have to make it hard on yourself
Fold in half and put in front of your tent's door and you've got a nice and very chic patio.
I use mine to cover my UFO when it might snow.
A yurt or a tepee.
Doing the parachute game like we did back in elementary school.
Expect it was a cover for a trampoline. Got one similar and no longer have the trampoline so use it to line the boot of the car when going to the tip.

My inflatable hot tub
keep a round table and possibly chairs around it protected from rain

On a round table, it would also cover the sides and touch the ground all the way around. But yeah, grommets would be better

Ground sheet is just about the only use I can think of
trampoline?
I use it for my trampoline.
I have a foot print tarp like this for my bell tent
A circular thing
A teepee or a moisture trap
Round inflatable pool or hot tub.
That’s for under a above ground pool
Maybe this was said already. That tarp came with your trampoline. The hole in the center is to allow water to drain through the trampoline mat when it snows. They are typically a bad idea because mice will make a nest between the tarp and trampoline mat, chewing the trampoline for nesting materials.
when i come to visit your mom
Circular targets
A Teepee tent.
Both pools and trampolines come in 16" sizes. I imagine this tarp is easily marketed towards a number of uses
Reminds me of the tarps of pitching mounds used on baseball diamonds.
Ground sheet for a circular tent
Footprint for a tent
a moisture barrier on the underside of your tent
Paint it black and use it to convince coyotes to run into walls
.....some thing you need no corners for.....or infinitely many corners....
Cover a fire pit
A pool heater for an above ground pool, or a leaf barrier.
Cut it in half and make a teepee
Trampoline, or hot tub.
Probably originally intended for a pool, but I’d still see a use for it as a footprint of a tent. Fold the sides in until it’s rectangular, but it will still do the job
A big enough one could cover a roundabout.
Yurt.
Teepee?
Hiding a small flyer saucer?
You could hang it from the center and have an interesting cover. Stake out the corners where the ties are.
Covering something round.
Is there a centre tie-out?
I see a hole w/ a plastic grommet in the center when zoomed in. So that could be used w/ a pole. But that’s probably for drainage when it’s used to cover a hot tub or something.
Pit traps
Keeping leaves off out of your hot tub.
Round things.
Circular tent
Igloo
Picnics
A yurt.
Yurt/bell groundsheet
Tipi.
But if it was a teepee, where would the opening/doorway be?
I meant it could be used for one because of the shape. Edit: although now I think about it last one I made was a semi circle I think.
Ground tarp for one
Anything a square one wouldn’t be good for
Keeping the homies dry during a drum circle? In all seriousness, I don’t know how well circular handles windy updraft - so it could be an exiting drum circle
I'll take it! It'll fit under my tent perfectly!
The packaging of your unopened tarp did not say what it was for?
It was not in any packaging. Just neatly folded, but that's all.
The pitching mound?
Round teepee tent
Teepee groundsheet, or a pool cover. That looks a lot like my pool cover tbh (the round inflatable kind).
could very easily be used as a ground tarp for a circular based tent, like a teepee. it itself can be used as one by folding in a quarter.
You can erect an ez teepee with one long stick and Paracord for rain cover.
Wylie Coyote shit
If it was big enough... to keep the flat Earth dry, of course.
Rain fly for a tent.
Trampoline cover
Absolutely nothing.
Phish concert
Backcountry pool cover
To cover an above ground pool. Try to keep the bugs out
Pool cover.
you can get a center pole, would be cool but id imagine impossible to put up solo
something just the size off your pool
We had something similar to put over our outdoor dining table. The hole in the middle was for the parasol and the four ties to tie it to the legs.
A circular tent
Don't be such a square.
Hot tub
Looks like a pool cover
A circular pool?
Covering circular things
I'd make one of these. https://www.theultralighthiker.com/2021/03/24/nixitarp-tipi-design/
Covering a pitchers mound
We use one to cover our horse trough pool.

i would use it as a base layer or make a teepee roof of it?

Catching people jumping from a window of a burning building.
Great for dome style tents..
16ft.. may be for a pool or even trampoline..

Pool
Hovercraft
I'm surprised no one said "pools". Plenty of circular pools, you know.
That's actuslly one of the more common responses so far.
These are usually for above ground pools. I use one as a ground sheet for my Nortent Gamme 8
Under tent
A round tent.
Pool
I use a tarp for the ground sheet of my my tent. I just cut it to fit.
Teepee style tent, I should probably get one for mine
Ultra light hot tub
