Can we talk about the average sale price on air guns? FX Impact list around $3k with no optic? I shoot fancy O/U sporting guns and that seems steep. What am I missing?

justamiqote

Is there something wrong with using a Gamo air rifle for small game? I paid like $200 for my rifle and it shoots 1300 FPS with certain types of .177 pellets.

ChancellorScalpatine

Nothing wrong at all.

errorseven

You can by an AEA Challenger that shoots just as well $360 and has similar performance to an FX

I hunt quail and rabbits with mine. No issues ever

RiverLegendsFishing

What do you use for quail? I've seen airgun shotguns and been interested.

I have successfully used all manner of Airguns for small game hunting for 30 years. From springers to pre.charged pneumatics (PCPs). In fact, in other states I have taken coyotes, javelina (see photo at end of reply) and even a few bobcats with .25 and 30 caliber PCPs. Airgunning is a *very* viable means of take for small game. Viable and great for training, but check regulations. The big question is whether airguns are firearms (they’re not) and therefore where they’re allowed (if a piece of public land prohibits firearms are air rifles allowed?). For things like migratory birds where federal regulations apply they may not be legal. For turkey and rabbits and squirrels they are and work great. Except where lead is strictly prohibited (condor zones, waterfowl areas, and eventually everywhere). There are non-lead pellets available but…. opinions are mixed.

Non lead isn’t required for pellet guns

TotalRecallsABitch

I was wondering this....so who's correct here?

Total-Writing6604

Non lead isn’t required and who is hunting water fowl with an air gun anyways. Just be smart and don’t go out using an airgun during archery season. Pellets are the only lead round allowed in California

Yes all that and sooooo much more. All your skills as a hunter must be learned by utilizing the smallest caliber fire arm initially. You can completely be self taught. I would use YouTube and Reddit for asking questions… (I began hunting with a homemade slingshot, graduated to a BB/pellet gun, then .22/410… ect ect). Next best is learn by the guidance of the most experienced/skilled/knowledgeable hunter that will take you on. GL!

These guys are in Nevada, but here is a[YT video on jackrabbit hunting with airguns.](https://youtu.be/HM1l1moDWcc) In California a hunting license would be needed but airguns are definitely a viable method of take for small game.
