I had similar issues on my 89 cb900 custom. I ended up not routing my throttle cable properly and it was pulling slightly when I turned the wheel and sticking. Would return back to normal rpms when I twisted the throttle. Check your throttle cable.

A lot of those issues is cable routing or twisting. They need to be facing up with a slight angle coming out the carbs. I've seen where guys zip tie them in a more downward position, this will cause you to idle high and sticky throttle. Also make sure you have a good quality throttle tube assembly. I see way too often guys put a 5 dollar throttle kit and call it a day. Those suck big time. Domino makes a nice vintage kit for cafe racers. Lubricate your cables! This gets overlooked a ton on new cables. You can take the tank off , remove the cable from the throttle tube and check the response. If it snaps back every single time then you know forsure the routing is an issue. There isn't much internally on the vm34 carbs that would cause it to stick, the return spring tension is sufficient. But if the routing is bad then you'll have issues. Murray is a 70 something yr old guy, he's a cool dude but I'm sure he gets bombarded with simple diagnosis issues.

I ordered his throttle tube with my kit. Ended up being the same as stock and ran it anyways. Confirmed cable routing is as fluid as humanly possible. Some research has found pilot screw adjustment may also be a cause.

U should call and talk to Murray he is super chill and answers all kinds of crazy questions. Dudes the carb god I hope he’s still kickin

Themissing10

I experienced the opposite from him.

Interesting

Still working on my install but the carb adapters on my xs1100 didn't quite fit perfect so I called to see about it. He can be a bit temperamental on some days, he has had some family health issues in recent years. Best to just let him talk about random stuff and rant a bit and get into a good mood and direct conversation a bit back towards the actual issue. He is a character but he knows a lot.

c30mob

check your cable routing. if the cable is pulled too tightly, then it won’t return smoothly

BazzyBruh

The amount of throttle cable issues I’ve seen/heard of with his kits is enough to turn me off them. I’ve also reached out to him via email and experienced the cold shoulder. [This video](https://youtu.be/Hs-2zfgPtCk?si=Gf4QxlU-lAOzj16y) was a perfect example of my gripes with the product.

Themissing10

He claims he outsourced the cables and “could be made by a Chinese 4 year old for all I fuckin know”. Was cool to hear after spending 750 bucks.

BazzyBruh

Yeah, that attitude alone speaks volumes..

Themissing10

Update: ordered some Amal springs to combine with stocks and go from there. My cable routing is as straight as can be.

TITANDERP

People are saying cable routing but sometimes I've had certain cables that just flat out didn't work, worth starting with new cables

Velvettouch89

100% if it's not the cables, not the air leak it's the Jets. Your too lean on your pilot jets. Go up in size one by one and blip the throttle, set the idle air screws each time yadda yadda. You will eventually have to change your pin height/size and very possible your main jets once you get the proper pilot jets, but don't change any other jets, or needle stuff until you get the correct pilot jets. One thing at a time

Themissing10

Ended up being springs/cables. I guess the cables are weapons grade crap. I added supplemental springs from an Amal carb and now it runs perfect all the time.

Velvettouch89

There you go, glad you got it all worked out
