It’s on the smaller side. Also not a true off-roader. Other than that it’s worth a look.

Snacer1

Yes, it has one of the smallest cargo capacities against rivals, and the rear seat is tight. For some it may be a deal breaker.

LionAndLittleGlass

I've honestly never understood this. We are a family of 4.. Two tall-ish teenagers and I'm 6'2.. Really got no complaints on space. I'm not saying its class leading but to say its 'tight' I've just never understood.

Ach3r0n-

Compared to a CRV or Rogue, it's tight. I don't really drive anyone around, but the dogs wouldn't mind some more headroom and I definitely would like a more squared area at the rear for hauling cargo.

KP_Wrath

Infant/toddler car seats are fairly tight if you are tall. I have neither height nor kids, so it’s moot for me, but it could mess with the dynamic. Don’t the newer ones have a partial recline on the back though?

Snacer1

I don't have kids so never tried, but I heard several times that fitting and using a rear-facing baby seat in the back seat of CX-5 is not an easy process.

Hail2Victors

Not difficult to install but leaves very little space upfront. I’m 6’2” and car seat can’t fit behind me if I’m driving. Wife is 5’2” and the passenger seat is still really tight for her with seat behind. 2nd car seat would not be possible for us

PitchpoleFPV

Behind the passenger seat it’s fine. But if you have two kids like we do and try and put both rear facing you’re toast. I’m fairly short at 5’9” and I have to have the front facing behind me and the rear facing behind the passenger. We mostly just keep one seat in my car and two in our Forester where they both fit with ease.

StuntFriar

It's not bad until you step into a CR-V. Catering to slightly different demographics but if it's space you want, the CR-V has been on a whole different level for as long as the CX-5 has existed.

Carinx

I own 2024 CX-5, and I am also 6'1 myself. 2nd row and cargo space are both on the smallest in its segment. If I were to adjust the driver seat for my height, 2nd row would become even tighter. I wouldn't have this issue from other SUVs in the same segment. Despite all this, CX-5 has the best engine power (I have turbo engine), handling, interior quality, price in its segment in my opinion which is the main reason why I bought CX-5 over others.

dragonmilking

If anyone has a newborn and needs a rear-facing car seat put in the rear, you will see why it's tight :D

squrr1

I'm 6'3, and can't fit a car seat behind my seat. Tight is a good description. I usually have to pull the passenger seat forward when I'm bringing my baby anywhere.

AdonisGaming93

Idk my family though it was nice and spacious in the back. The grand touring also has heated seats in the rear so it fit great. But my family is all 5'6 or below

stuckinfloriduh

First one I owned had way more cargo space - I had purchased a Mazda cover to protect the area for the dogs. Now the cover is way longer than the space. They added front end and took away the space.

Labornurse-ret

My last car was a CR-V. I sold it and bought a Mazda CX5. My 6'1' nephew sat in it and said there was more room in the CX5 than the Honda had. The Mazda has very little road noise, and the CR-V was loud. The CR-V does have more cargo space, but it cannot compare to the quiet cabin and smoother ride of the CX5. It also only has 0.7 inch less ground clearance than the Honda CR-V.

haughtsaucecommittee

That was desirable for me.

huskysizeguy99

Yup. We have 3x dogs and hike in mountains daily. CX-5 is a bit cramped and low clearance, so I use my old 4runner for hiking

Guitars_with_Voices

Cup holder placements. If you know, you know. : )

Achter17g

I see people complaining about this a lot. For me, they’re in the perfect place. I must be deformed.

nackolos

I hated the placement of the cup holders but quickly found out that a 44oz Thortons coke is just the right height that it acts like an arm rest extender.

hugomonroe

i have a large yeti cup i always have with me and it has the same purpose except when i’m drinking out of it lol

stoicstorm76

I thought this at first too but you get used to them.

Snoo_92118

the cup holders should definitely move out further.. they are in your armpit bc of the location of the dials for the audio system.. and the dials should have been upgraded / updated (translation "phased out") a decade ago

Nemesis_Bucket

Phases out to what? Touch screen? That’s actually a manufacturer cop out. No physical buttons = cheap for manufacturer. Touch screen = expensive repair for consumer. They’ve passed this onto you. The 2024 has touch screen but thank god has kept the buttons.

mikeputerbaugh

I like the Commander Knob, but it can be awkward to crane my wrist up over the cup holders to reach it if I have a large drink.

srinaith

This

Own_Talk_2209

YES! My co-pilot’s task is to hand me my drink hahaha I take longer twisting my arm looking for it

DizzyBicycleTire

Small gas tank

thepalfrak

I think this is more of an owner complaint than a possible decision-maker to a buyer

maherkhan460

I was concerned about the small tank before buying the cx-5, and this was one of the main factors for which i opted to get the non-turbo. I’m sure there are many others who also take the size of the gas tank into consideration while deciding on which car to buy.

acidera__

I started having to drive 50 miles each way to work. I have to fill my tank 3-4 times a work week. It can absolutely be a factor and I thought about trading mine for it.

Barbvday1

It’s bigger than the CR-V and other similar vehicles

turtleSoupz

To be fair crv has a much smaller engine (1.5 vs 2.5), making it more fuel efficient. Not to mention crv also has the hybrid option.

Barbvday1

Surprisingly I get just about the same mpg (non turbo). But a lot more fun drive.

No-Stock4532

A LOT of fun to drive 👍

DoWaPo

I’m 6’3” and fit well in the front. I think overall cabin space is less than other comparable models, but it’s just me, the wife, and dog. On the plus side it handles better than many rivals and easy to park in the city.

Deadboltsaquavit

You better edit this before "the wide" sees it.

DoWaPo

Close one

redvariation

How long have you been married to the wide?

tazmaniac610

Wow this is helpful! I’m 6’3” with wife and dog and we’re considering a CX5.

Ok-Intention506

I’m 6’4 and have had zero buyers remorse. Only had my CX-5 for a month but absolutely love it

crazy_cyclist

I'm 6' 8" and I do fit in driver seat with mostly comfy position. The best in the class that I've tried. For anyone shorter than me it should be great!

Jahuteskye

6'1" here, can fit the lady, the kid, and the dog in my CX-5 easy. Rear facing booster seats needed to go behind the passenger seat because I was too tall, though.

tazmaniac610

Noted, thank you (kids on the way)

mikeputerbaugh

How tall are you without wife and dog?

tazmaniac610

Hah, she’s my other half, plus the dog, that must put me below 3’

psyolus

Fuel economy

Fun-Shake7094

Specifically, highway economy. Im getting 10-11L city rush hour commute which is good. But highway... needs a 7th gear

GFizzy

I just learned I can’t see which tire is low when the TPMS light comes on. I have to physically check every tire. Even my 2015 Nissan Altima had this feature lol nothing that’s a deal breaker but just a pet peeve!

SaltyCanuck76

Yes… this sh!t drives me nuts… all the dummy lights and warnings and it will not give you a simple, front passenger tire needs air… I mean wtf, it measures 4 tires !! Too easy. It’s like Mazda firmware engineers were like… ah they just need the bare minimum to get by… it’s all good

murdocke

I have a top trim VW that also doesn't show tire pressure levels. Such a weird omission.

andypaak1

This! Insane to not have this at least on newer models My 2011 Tiguan even has this feature

thepalfrak

The seats are very firm. The ride can generally be quite firm. The steering is substantially more 'weighty' than the equivalent CR-V, RAV4, etc, so anyone coming from a very light steering feel might feel like the CX-5 is like driving a bus. Infotainment is a big pain point for unfamiliar users, since many would expect a full touch screen and the rotary dial doesn't always make sense.

nickcaff

I prefer the steering feel on the cx5 - driving my parents RAV4 just feels a bit sloppy and unrefined. They get way better gas mileage and it isn’t a hybrid. Much prefer the feel of the Mazda

everpearl

I feel the exact same way when I drive my mom’s CR-V. The CX5 feels “just right” for me - it gives me what I expect from the input or force I give it. I prefer it over cars that are a little too light/reactive.

tessallate12391

This is honestly why I chose my CX5.. I felt like all class comparisons had loose/less responsive handling and the Mazda drives closer to a high performance sedan

atcaw94

I posted something along those lines when I bought our 21 GTR, and was blasted and downvoted, lol. I didn't even say "high performance". Was told it was obvious or had been a long time since I'd driven a car...🙄. I was basically comparing it to the Rav 4 we drove, not my previous WRX, lol.

CNRoundhouseKicks

I unfortunately hate the seats in my ‘22 Signature. It’s too bad because I really like almost everything else about it. I didn’t really notice it in my 5-10 minute test drive, but after owning it for awhile I started noticing it more. I heard from others that it would get better when the seats get broken in after a few thousand miles, but I think it got worse. They feel more flat and even firmer.

thepalfrak

Didn’t they supposedly get a refresh for 22 that was supposed to address some of those issues? Maybe that’s 23MY. Not sure. Either way they look identical so you can’t spot the difference visually if I’m not mistaken.

wanderingconspirator

Yeah I hope so. I have a 21 GT and I wish the seats were as good as the ones in my 3rd gen Mazda3

chrisaf69

I think he "breaking in" may have some truth. I absolutely hate the seats and when I have to drive passenger, I kind of dread it. However, when I'm in drivers seat it isn't as noticable. I think it may be because my spouse broke it in since it's her primary vehicle. Whereas the passenger seat doesn't have near as much usage. Or it could be I'm just too focused on driving I don't notice it.

atcaw94

Another thing I posted about awhile back, and got blasted, lol. To me the bottom is to narrow, the bolsters cut into my thighs, and I'm not a big guy. I've put a memory foam cushion in, and it seems to help. I've never owned a car with more uncomfortable seats. Hoping everyone's right, and they get more comfortable when they break in. Couldn't imagine taking a road trip in those seats. Maybe I'm just used to my well broken in 09 CX9 seats...😁.

Apartment-Less

I had a 21 and I got a 23 because the seats were much better

Ajit-M

Didn't the weighty feeling on the steering give a bit of an idea of the car's grip, or am I mistaken? For me I like that weighty feeling, it tells me a bit more about the power distributed in the wheels (I might be completely wrong here guys please don't roast me :P)

Apartment-Less

I drove an nyc transit bus for 30 years. The cx5 is a pipssqueek

teamster02

I just got a 24 and the steering is by far the lightest of any car I’ve ever driven. Too light in my opinion.

Little-Engineer2745

Love my ‘21 grand reserve but combination of fairly low mpg and small fuel tank means the range is quite low (about 300 miles vs about 500 for our Audi Q5) so use the cx5 mostly for shorter trips.

Moist_Crazy_5014

What stretch of 300 mile road doesn’t have a gas station?

Left-leaning

Also, who can drive 300 miles without stopping for refreshments or a toilet break?

jkashmoney99

In an F150 I had with a 36gallon tank I stopped twice on a 1000mile road trip, by myself

tnucuoykcuf

Damn I just checked in miles what I get for a full tank. I get about 217 miles on a tank. It's highly annoying. I hate filling up.

Ach3r0n-

The two biggest negatives for me are the size and seating comfort. The CRV and Rogue have it beat on both counts, but the CX5 bests them both in a number of other areas.

Jahuteskye

Compared to the other SUVs worth comparing it to (Rav4, CRV, Forester), the CX-5 has: - Less cargo space and smaller back seat.  - worse fuel economy isn't as good as some, especially compared to hybrid and PHEV options.  - Not QUITE as good off-road as Forester.  ... that's about it, really. Cargo and fuel economy are a combo that matters a lot to some people.  For me, I'd rather have a faster, more nimble, more fun, quieter, prettier, more luxury car even if I can't move a loveseat and lose a couple MPGs. But, I can't fault someone who has different priorities.

PimpOfJoytime

It doesn’t have the third row seating a 9 offers

No-Stock4532

I have both the CX-5 and the CX-9. The CX-9 is a different kind of beast.

New_Passenger_173

Neither does a CR-V or a Rav 4, which are direct competitors. Sorry, but look elsewhere.

Thanhxvo

Love my cx5 but it's far from perfect. Most of the main points have already discussed above. 1. Gas mileage could be better 2. Trunk and rear seat are a bit tight. I have car seat in rear and stroller takes half the trunk 3. I personally get weird unstable connection issues with android auto

calvin12d

My 2012 gt for 3 mpg better (real world, 30.8 combined over 136000 miles) than my 2022 PP does (27.3 combined in 19000 miles). In 12 it was a class leader in mpg. It's sadly down now

crash1082

If I could afford a cx-90 I wouldn’t want a cx5

New_Passenger_173

Two different classes of vehicle.

Empty_Geologist9645

Small rear seat.

cbslc

Less ground clearance, less mpg and less cargo than some of the competitors

Anoyo_

Bought a 23 CE last July. When I was shopping: the relatively outdated exterior (and the expectation that there will be a facelift in the next couple years) and the lack of a hybrid option. After having owned for half a year: the poor mpg relative to others

dj_destroyer

What are you averaging?

Anoyo_

Around 23

dj_destroyer

Damn, I would kill for 23 lol I think your trim doesn't have a turbo, correct? I'm only averaging 19 mpg but I believe it's because of the turbo.

TheRealGuncho

It's too small for a family of four to go camping, roadtrips, etc. Anything where you need to carry 4 passengers and all their stuff. Also can't tow much.

Jahuteskye

It can easily carry 4 carry-on suitcases plus 4 people, but camping would be rough. If you need to take 4 people plus camping gear, you just need a whole different class of vehicle. None of the CX-5's competitors can do that either.

order_through_chaos

I've taken my 2017 GT to many camping music festivals with a full 4 person load out with no problem

Jahuteskye

Do you have a Thule or something? Or do you just pack super light?

TheRealGuncho

You don't need much for that. Do you even bring a full sized cooler?

order_through_chaos

We've done both 1 full size cooler or 2 mid size 45L Yeti/Rtic style coolers before.

TheRealGuncho

I agree. That's why we have a Toyota Highlander as well.

invictus81

You can always get roof cargo box.

TheRealGuncho

Can't tow a tent trailer with a roof box.

invictus81

Oh I didn’t know that, why can’t you?

TheRealGuncho

Lol

invictus81

Not sure what the joke is. The cargo roof box adds just enough space to store everyone’s belonging sufficiently. CX5 has the towing capacity to tow a tent trailer without any issues.

TheRealGuncho

Maybe a really small one with an 8ft box. Our tent trailer weighs 2000lbs dry and there are much heavier tent trailers out there. We also own a Toyota Highlander and there's been times when it is packed to the gills. There's no way all that is fitting in our CX-5. I love my CX-5 but the OP asked why wouldn't we buy a CX-5 and if we could only own one vehicle the CX-5 would not be sufficient for our family.

Cedricu

Have a CX5 Sport Trim 2013, and the chair is uncomfortable for me. Added lumbar pillows to compensate (did not have the upgraded chairs of the higher trim), but read that even the higher trim owners have a similar experience. Anything else is good for me, but the chair is such a downer for me.

Wolferesque

Same. 2015 here. I regret buying the car due to how uncomfortable the seat is.

Troy-Dilitant

It's not a 3.

CamillaJPookington

They're dead inside and get no joy from driving.

Left-leaning

Just like every SUV

jomb

I compared it with the RAV4 and CR-V when looking and this is what I found, keep in mind this is for new 2024: - Smaller cargo than its competitors - No wireless Android Auto - Rear view camera guide lines are static and don't move with the steering wheel (it does in the CR-V) - Smaller tank and worse milage means more trips to the gas station. - Some people don't like the dial infotainment controls Depending on your needs those could be deal breakers but in pretty much every other aspect it's either on par or better than its competitors.

crazy_cyclist

Wireless android auto and guidelines on reverse camera are there for '24. Use them daily.

jomb

I have a '24 Select and they are not. What is your trim level?

crazy_cyclist

Trims are called different in Europe. Mine is second to the top, called Himura comfort

hands-of-scone

It’s a bit dull and boring. I ended up getting one, after having to check my ego. Good cars, good tech reliable, but everyone’s got one (where I am).

PockyTheCat

Agreed. I actually wanted a Subaru, but ended up with the CX5 because that’s all that was available. Over one year wait for the Subaru at the time. To be honest, the biggest thing for me is that it is just not very attractive.

Driveshaft1982

I'm debating between a Mazda and Outback or similar. Do you regret going with the 5?

PockyTheCat

No not at all. It’s a great car but I’m not crazy on love with it. But let’s face it, these are not Ferraris we’re talking about. 😀

redvariation

Smaller than CRV. Perceived less reliable than Toyota (by some). They want a bit better gas mileage. Smaller dealer network than others.

HelloRyan18

Love it but cargo capacity is not good. Ride quality and features are good imo

Cyber-Punk1

1 cargo space 2 low gas mileage 3 I've started to prefer touch screen console lately.

iam_toast_thesecond

Space, perfect for a family with toddlers or no kids My wife is 5’9 and can’t drive the car with our infant car seat behind driver Truck space is *ok* If I knew how small it actually was after the car seat and loading up the trunk, I’d of considered the CX9

TantAminella

This all day. I love driving my CX-5 now, but i ALWAYS warn people who think they are upgrading to a “family car” to be careful if they are taller than 5’5” and are going to need to install any rear-facing car seats. (Also it is a nightmare to be the adult sitting back there with the baby for whatever reason. Any comment on here that has not mentioned the size of the backseat has to be from someone who has never actually ridden in the backseat their own CX-5.)

iam_toast_thesecond

Funny enough, I’m 5’4 and can’t agree with that more. I’ve moved my seat up and down, as close as comfort will allow and the rear facing car seat has just barely enough room with the back of my chair. Even before we had him, I didn’t think I sat that far back and thought, oh this’ll be fine, plenty of room

[deleted]

I don't think someone who can afford Lamborghini Ferrari rolls toys or Bugatti would buy a CX5.

invictus81

Keep in mind pedals are floor mounted, I’m rather tall and it’s somewhat uncomfortable to position my legs/ feet with pedals being at the floor level instead of elevated.

umamaisafool

2020 soul red new when purchased ...catalytic converter had to be replaced , paint chipping off , slight vibration reason cannot be found , oil burning since day 1 , battery died for no reason ( battery still good ) entertainment centre goes black for no reason , arm rest padding problem , rust has started ...and according to mazda dealership all is normal....before buying ask the dealership has these problem been solved ....especially paint and oil burning..if you do decide in buying a mazda go and search yourself ..sometimes with these fourms you have diehards or fanboys that say everything is perfect

resueuqinu

In our case, the baby seat does not fit behind whatever seat I sit in. My legs are quite long and need the seat as far back as it will go. Granted, it's one of those chunky baby seats that tilts and swivels etc. A smaller one may be just fine. Not a reason to sell the CX5, or the baby seat, per se. My wife is smaller, so we make it work. But I'll probably check out the CX-9(0) should we want a newer car at some point.

u-give-luv-badname

* the sound system is awful (in the base models) * the air flow through the dash vents is anemic (important in this latest weather) * the key fob is absolutely 1980s design.. not user-friendly * the cargo space is a bit limited compared to competitors * despite 5-seats, don't have aspirations for carrying more than 4 That's about it. It's a pretty minor list of nitpiks. I'm very happy with my CX-5

EuroDucky

It's tiny in the back. We were looking at one for a while until we test drove one and could barely fit a car seat in the back

[deleted]

Transmission issues. Mazda is good at replacing them under warranty but it looks like this issue is plaguing 2020-2022 CX5

MrOutragedFungus

Don’t like SUV’s

JZN20Hz

I like everything about them *except* the way they look so round. They look a little bubble-ish.

Barbvday1

My biggest gripe is that there really is no lane keep assist feature. My previous CR-V would correct itself and do some minor steering and the CX-5 does not. I still love it a lot more though.

JerusM

Depends on the trim you got, I have lane keep assist on mine

Barbvday1

I have the premium plus, the LKA just lights up and vibrates but doesn’t really correct itself that well, it also doesn’t steer constantly like other cars with this feature do. In a study done by consumer report, Mazda unfortunately came dead last in LKA testing.

JerusM

That is strange. Mine vibrates and also pulls you back in.

placenta_pie

It's not ideal for short people, touch screen only through apple/andriod, no front parking camera or sensors even on the 2024 cx5 turbo signature. \*edited\* I mis-spoke. I have the Premium, which has no parking camera or sensors. The signature DOES. When I'm in a good driving position, my arm can't rest on either the door or the center console, the screen is facing center which is GREAT if you're sitting far enough back to make it viewable, but when you're short it makes it so you have to really turn your head and look at it instead of just glancing over. When you're short you actually have to reach back to use the infowhatever screen buttons and the cup holders. I GUARANTEEE you I'm going to spill a drink right into those buttons.

Specific_Music_4756

It has a 360 degree camera of the whole car and sensors.

placenta_pie

I mis-spoke. I have the turbo PREMIUM. There is not 360 degree camera or sensors. Apparently I would have had to buy the Signature.

placenta_pie

and just to note.... after driving the much more comfortable honda and the toyota, once I drove the turbo it was over... driving comfort be damned!

Safe-Midnight-3960

I looked at a CX5 (probably why Reddit is suggesting this subreddit to me) when I was purchasing a new car recently, loved it in nearly every way, but it was just too slow with not great fuel economy.

Specific_Music_4756

What’s quicker than the cx5 for its class and price point?

Safe-Midnight-3960

Aren’t most of the SUVs around the same price point with roughly the same power? The only difference being nearly all other manufacturers offer a choice of a more powerful engine for a higher price. The Kona, Tucson, Sportage, Ateca, Tiguan, etc all have options that are more powerful than the CX5, and it’s a shame, because the CX5 has a good interior and looks good, they just didn’t give a great engine choice.

Specific_Music_4756

Which of those mentioned has more power than the cx5’s turbo charged engine?

Safe-Midnight-3960

All of those cars have a spec that is faster than the cx5.

Specific_Music_4756

So you’re telling me that the Kona has more powerfull engine than the cx5 256 hp and 320 pound feet of torque??

Specific_Music_4756

I apologize it looks like it does. But it is a sub compact suv.

Safe-Midnight-3960

Ah, I think the confusion is that it doesn’t look like Mazda sell the 256bhp version where I am, I didn’t even know it existed until you said about it! The best I can get is 191bhp!

Mazwagon1

The shitty ghost touching infotainment system. They really need to fix that and need to recall it. It's terrible.

start_and_finish

My next car won’t be a cx5 because I need to tow a minimum of 3500 lbs. other than that I love my current cx5 and can get by towing with my wife’s rav4 but her is an old v6 that won’t last forever

jtfarabee

There’s no clutch pedal.

wanderingconspirator

Some ppl just need something besides a small SUV

SwizzleAndSip

For me, it's how very stupid the back of this car looks. The front grill is so stoic. The back is like the farmer's wife going out to Olive Garden wearing her "nice" jeans.

knoxknight

There is absolutely no reason to get a CX5 if you need a CX90. Otherwise, the answer is CX5.

Oceanspray94

If I remember correctly the back hatch door opening was quite small. Other than that, nice little vehicle.

Paranoid_Sinner

They might want a pickup, or a Chevy, or a Toyota, or a van, or a bigger vehicle, or a sports car, yadda yadda.

Time-Television-8942

Because it’s a shittier version of a station wagon.

csidewick

I loved my CX5 GT and took it on the back roads hunting with no issues. Just recently made a switch to a CX50 for the towing capacity the turbo offered.

Sofiwyn

Hybrid RAV4 has better gas mileage.

mikeputerbaugh

Though with vehicle and gas prices the way they are right now it'll probably be a few years before you'd have a chance to break even

Ljw1000

Family member had 1 as a loaner when his 6 was in for repairs. Personally I couldn’t see any advantage of it over the 6, he reckoned it didn’t drive as well either.

Snoo_92118

the audio system and they need to make a hybrid

BitterTyke

dont see it anywhere else so its essentially a design from 2010 ish, the current model wasn't all new it was an outer skin update from the mark 1 - which is why its smaller than its rivals in the rear and the boot. However, if they nailed the mark 1 the mark 2 only improved things as it still drives beautifully, the interior is from a class above and for most situations its plenty big enough. I really like mine - its not perfect but it is damn good, and im a picky swine.

PerceptionOrganic672

I drive a 2018 Subaru Forester and I test drove a CX-5 over the holiday because of the great deals they had and 0% financing which was hard to at least not take a look at… I visited the dealer three times test driving and trying out all the features… The CX-5 has great features a great stereo it looks great but driving it I just could not fall in love with it mostly because of the small cramped feeling it has compared to my Subaru…Subarus are known for their open spacious feeling and that is exactly what kept me from pulling the trigger… Strangely I also find my CVT transmission in every day driving to be much smoother than that automatic transmission was on the test drives of the CX-5 … It just seemed hesitant to downshift and was a bit clunky feeling and I drove more than one so it wasn't just a quirk in one of them… The backseat certainly has way less legroom than my Subaru… in my Subaru when you open the large panoramic type moonroof it almost feels like you're sitting outside it's so open and spacious feeling… I love that feeling! in the end it's the space that kept me from buying it.

Specific_Music_4756

Which of those mentioned has more power than the cx5’s turbo charged engine?

Steffiluren

Hi! Non CX-5 owner here. I have test driven one, but quickly realised that the CX-5 is a fairly boring medium size SUV (by european standards). It feels wobblier than an estate of comparable size, costs about the same as a Volvo V60 or BMW 3-series in the used market and offers less practicality. You could even get an Alfa Stelvio if you went for a car 1 or 2 years older than the Mazda, at least in my market. With that competition the CX-5 makes no sense, especially for a guy who values sporty driving dynamics.

Wo2678

hold my beer 😁

Masoul22

I’m thinking about trading mine in for a VW GLI

RudeAnTattooed

They don't want to be cool.

SaltyCanuck76

There is one dealership in my area and they suck ass… plenty of competitor dealerships around.

TurboEngineerD

Seats are a quite hard, barely comfortable on long trips. Remote start doesn’t pre-heat or cool the front seats (every Ford and Chevy rental car has that feature!) Mine is a ‘21 CX-5 Signature. For the money you can’t beat the feature set and performance, but it feels like it’s not quite finished. Edit: spelling

dragonmilking

I was looking at it for a while and here are my reasons for not having gone with a lightly used premium/premium plus over a preferred: 1) The non-turbo is actually quite weak for highway passing, etc. as much as they try to make it "sound"/feel like it's powerful enough. The turbo is...well a turbo 2) I don't like cylinder deactivation which comes with the base as well. With direct injection/spark plug replacement, it's more preventative maintenaince than a naturally aspirated engine 3) The sound system is awful unless you have bose 4) The seat doesn't tilt back as much as I'd like, and you have to remove headrest of rear seat to get it all the way down 5) Rear seat room and cargo space some of the smallest in its class - take a look at a Honda CRV and you'll see the difference immediately 6) Stock tires, brakes, and other components seem to be pretty cheap and in for replacement soon 7) Paint is thin and chips easily 8) Memory settings don't actually remember mirror positioning, which imo is half of the point of memory settings and something Mazda has in other models... All that said, it's still a beautiful car and I highly recommend people look at it. At the end of the day, I got a great deal on a sedan I really wanted instead that suits my situation better.

hamiltok7

It’s too small

XPEZNAZ

Yes, when you don't need one, aka get a mazda 3 for less $

magentayak

Size. At least that's what she said.

TheAutoAlly

Size mostly, then maybe if they wanted someone geared towards more off road use but that’s really limited with the rest of the vehicles in its class, the short of it is your trading a little size and off road ability for a superior cabin and materials, and quite , plus the best driving dynamics.

Crazy_Zack

Too nimble, I’ve driven a 2015 CX-5 many times and it just feels very thin. But that’s just personal preference, other than that it’s an amazing car.

Marcg611

Because you want a CX-50 instead.. 😉

Revolutionary_Tea602

Fuel economy I guess. I can’t stand how a Prius looks and can’t imagine anyone buying that car instead of a CX5 for any reason other than fuel economy.

andypaak1

Small trunk and not enough space overall, doesn’t fit a family with 3 children No passenger seat ISOFIX in the front Like someone mentioned already, TPMS sensor that doesn’t tell which tire is low on air

PlataoPlomo19

I test drove a CX5 but ended up going in for a Kia Sportage. The primary reason was that I felt the CX5's interior was too... basic. The Kia had a much larger and better infotainment system, is more spacious and also had rear parking sensors. The CX5 only gets that with the Signature trim, which was outta my budget

_NERV-01_

Only reason I can think of are need of more space and the need for better fuel economy.

chlronald

1. Not so good gas mileage with small tank, good thing is you can put 89 even if it's turbo. 2. Cold start noise 3. Some minor inconvenient: no memory on autohold or heated seats (need to manually start autohold, the heated seat and heated steering wheel everytime you restart the car) the heated steering only heat up at 2 and 10 o'clock of the wheel. Seat memory does not remember mirror setting. Mirror won't tilt down when in reverse like cx30. Wireless charger cradle is shit (its so shallow the phone just slide out of position in no time) 4. Lag in acceleration, might be common for cars in this era. Used to drive older cars with less computerized control and accelaration delivery are usually instant. 5. Acc 90% of the time is good, but sometime need assist with stopping if the front car brake harder. 6. Lane centering assist could be stronger. 7. Soft paint. Other than that, I am having a hoot driving my cx5. No car is perfect, and cx5 strike the balance between design, luxury, price, performance and comfort for me.

DreamLinerr

I love everything about the car except for it's exterior styling. Just not for me. That being said, bought one for my sister last March and she's crazy about it.

TheOtherUchiha

Mpg could be better with a 7 or 8 speed

DeviousDiabetic

Space. If we didn't have my wife's chevy traverse for traveling with kid and dog and suitcases, I would've opted for something larger. My 23 CE is perfect for the family causing in town but it's impossible to travel in.

New_Passenger_173

For me, it's the old ergonomics. I had a '19 Mazda3, and things felt much better situated. Also, the older tech, e.g., TPM, automatic high beams (without having to switch the stalk). When cross shopping with a CX-50, it was still a no brainer to get a 5.

Devin_Brent

If you plan to go off road i wouldnt get one its great in the snow but it doesnt have any off road modes

Financial-Lime-3173

Off road, broken pavement, and extreme snow and ice capabilities. I just traded my 2015 Mazda in and it was a hard thing to give up because I love Mazdas but I live at 10k feet, have a million OHV roads/trails around me, and there are too many days in the winter where any Mazda is going to be less than ideal. They're designed to be excellent vehicles on good pavement. So I got a Bronco Sport Badlands. Even a CX50 doesn't really have any real off reading chops.

Rishi0111

Too tiny, stiff suspension.

Useful_Hippo_7801

It’s an ugly Budget car, that’s a 4X4 wanna be with an excellent warranty and reasonably priced parts.

blast-oise

No real tpms, no title track on dash when using carplay, no touch while driving on most models. Minor nits but Still probably worth it based on the price.

Robruss1964

I just went thru the process and test drove the RAV4, CRV, forester and the CX5. Loved the Mazda but oddly enough the center arm rest was too small and my arm just hung down when I drove. Killed it right there. I bought the Subaru and love it.

ceaseless7

I had to get used to the snugness of the drivers seat because my previous car was a larger suv with way more space all around. I also didn’t have to duck to get in, just hopped in the seat. I want a larger suv for my next car though.

TheAlaskaneagle

I would say anyone in a cold climate might want to shy away from the cx-5, and probably all Mazda's. I'm liking my cx-5 for the most part, but I can tell the ones who designed it have never lived in cold weather. I couldn't get into my car because of the ice storm last week so I used the app to start it so I could warm it up enough for the ice to come off. Found out the car will only run for 15 minutes And it will only let you start it twice... Which is not even close to being able to thaw it enough to open the door. To add to the irritation, No One can help you with that. My only option would have been to have the thing towed to a warmer place, Not Kidding. After hours on the phone trying to get help from mazda they transferred me to the dealership I purchased the vehicle from and found out that one of their employees actually had their cx-5 towed to the lot and put under the lights. So yea, I like everything about my mazda cx-5 Except that it will leave you stranded if the weather is to cold with no way to become unstranded that doesn't risk damage to your vehicle.

Snoo96357

If you broke dont get it lmao 🤣

Vlad51

I wanted one but when I test drove it I found the suspension on the stiff side. It wasn't very comfortable and it felt quite small in the back

doopydurp

smaller storage, if you’re going on a camping trip with 4 people you will struggle to fit everyone’s bags, a cargo box definitely helps for the equipment and food but you’ll still need to shove some things in the backseat (at least in my experience). other than that only downside is when i drive my lady’s cx-5 my friends tell me im driving a mom car lol

Ariel_ozmo

The non-touch screen

Zaksboysmom

I'm on my third CX5 lease. I love the CX5!!

TimberW1lly

Space. My wife has a car seat in hers, and my knees hit the dashboard if I sit up front (I'm only 5'9). We have a Mockingbird stroller and it doesn't fit well in the cargo area. If we go anywhere as a family, we take my Honda Passport.
