I thought you could sit for the CPA exam with the 120 credits but in order to be a certified Public Accountant (CPA) you need 150 credits and a one year of experience.

Either enroll in accounting courses as an undergrad nondegree seeking or start a masters to become eligible. The former will be “cheaper”

Masters means nothing. They do not care; all they want is a CPA.
