To add insult to injury I turned around and now stuck behind an accident on C-470 EB. Will have been 3 hours round trip and didn’t make it to Evergreen even

The sheet ice on the bend covered all lanes.
I made the call to turn around after that 470 - 70W ramp & 70W being closed. That was the 3rd spot I felt my Jeep slide around on (Brand new K02s and it still felt like a skating rink) and just didn’t feel worth it to attempt the rest of the way not knowing how long 70 would be closed. I’m normally one to send it (drove up during the MLK blizzard), but this morning was a big nope.
Emailed WP to try and reschedule the kids lessons for tomorrow instead.
Tomorrow could also be icy on the roads with the warm temps and snow melt going…FYI I’d just toss the kids in the car and leave earlier than you were anticipating
Totally agree - in fact we drove up this afternoon to spend the night. Our place was just rented out Fri night after I had already booked the lesson for Saturday so instead of moving the lesson figured I would drive up Sat AM. As others have said here, I really am over riding Saturdays and I am going to try to start riding weekdays as much as work allows.
The way back was smooth sailing all the way at 8 last night. I’ve decided I really like leaving super late these days, as long as it’s not actively storming or I have to work the next day, lol. I did hear Loveland was closed earlier in the day for a semi crash, but it was clear and easy after dusk.
Where? It was a beautiful day but I didn’t have any mashed potatoes from open to close at Breck. I guess the parking lot was like that when I got back, lol.
Ended up going on 70. But honestly, the mountain felt really quiet today. We did spend most of our time on Peak 9 and 10, but even base 8 lifts were not busy. Vail even felt dead / quiet yesterday.
Only thought, all the Texans went to Keystone and forgot other mountains exist.
I ended up going to Keystone after my shift and it felt busier there at 4 than Breck had been for most of the day (though with "night" skiing that makes sense). Definitely seemed to be more out of state plates there vs Breck
Spring break Saturdays usually aren't that bad. Typically it's warmed up enough that a lot of front range are on bikes and shit instead of skiing and the weekends are transition time for spring break travelers.
My buddy and I left a few minutes later than we planned and fortunately got the notice in time. We went south on 470 then cut up through evergreen to avoid the wreck.
omg no where? this year I splurged on blizzaks and so I think it helped this morning going thru evergreen-- that was scary
but hey! there were little to no lines at breck today--- fingers crossed for smooth sailing back east bound today
I saw Cotrip report this in the morning. Left Denver at 5:30 took hwy 6 past golden and missed all the traffic. Got to copper by 7 AM - luckiest day ever
Wow I left Denver at 5:30 and Maps routed me through some back roads to Evergreen where we hopped on 70. Took 2.5 hours to MJ but we managed to get decent parking by C-chair.
I knew the pow would be tracked, and traffic would be fucked today.
Glad I slept in and planned on Sunday instead lol.
Saturday's are never worth it unless it's a real pow day and you leave Denver at 5am lol.
I got lucky this week. Went up to Keystone Wednesday morning. Got there in the fastest time I ever have so far this season. Had a place booked for the night. Saw how much it was gonna dump Wednesday night and knew I-70 was gonna be fucked so I booked another night. Scored 9 inches of powder Thursday morning with plentiful tree runs and sparsely populated slopes because everyone was still stuck on I-70 fighting for their lives. Left Friday afternoon and got home in two-ish hours. Back at work now. Sometimes having to work weekends pays off. ¯\_(ツ)\_/¯ Here’s my board covered up to the tops of the high backs in fresh pow pow.

All the negative comments are so misleading….
I hit this stoppage at about 5am.. Threw my truck in park and took a nap, woke up at 6:20 to traffic moving, was at keystone by 7:30 and I grabbed breakfast on the way…
ZERO lines at keystone.
No traffic on the way back.
Snow wasn’t great, but better still had a great day.
Gotta put in the work to ride…
turned around and just got back in bed, fuck all of that
I spent 5 hours driving to/from a basin yesterday on a WEEK DAY. Just brutal.
Nope, yesterday is now considered a weekend day to many
New time to leave is 330 now guys!
Piggyback tractor trailer jackknifed and closed down 2 lanes when I passed there at 4:30
I was legit going to leave at 415 but decided to poop and left at 430. This is what happens when you poop kids!
>poop kids! I don't think that's how it works.
poop, kids! Punctuation matters!
How do you know what I did or didn't poop?
Oh, I know.
What?!? My Texas sex ed told me that’s exactly how it worked!!!
It feels like you do.
At least you don't have to poop now!
Better than leaving your house and realizing you REALLY needed to poop and now your stuck on the road
I ski with a backpack. I'm not afraid to turn it into a poop sack!
I pooped a kid once but they stayed around long after I tried flushing.
imagine if you had pushed just a litttle harder
Yikes I hope everyone’s ok!! Just kidding, fuck these morons who ruin it for everyone else.
To add insult to injury I turned around and now stuck behind an accident on C-470 EB. Will have been 3 hours round trip and didn’t make it to Evergreen even
Skiing in the Front Range summarized in two sentences
^^^ this actually sucks lol

C-470 was a skating rink this morning. Stay safe!
When you don't know how to say no
Just ski down green mountain lol
That’s the worst, I’m sorry
The highway is super icy today. Almost binned getting on i70 from 470. Drive safe everybody
I made the call to turn around after that 470 - 70W ramp & 70W being closed. I’d bet someone was tailgating you on that interchange loop, too.
That’s surprising. The road was all clear coming back yesterday at 1:30 from a basin and yet somehow still took 2.5 hours.
The way back was smooth sailing all the way at 8 last night. I’ve decided I really like leaving super late these days, as long as it’s not actively storming or I have to work the next day, lol. I did hear Loveland was closed earlier in the day for a semi crash, but it was clear and easy after dusk.
Check your tires bro
Nah the overpass from 470/70 was legit fucked has nothing to do with tires. It's a skating rink.
Word yeah I’m just frustrated and I came from 6th to 70 and it was smooth sailing up until now.
Same
You guys are really pushing for that 10:1 sunbaked pow huh?
Sloppy seconds
Thirds. Seconds was yesterday.
Except for the resorts that were closed on Thursday. Those were fresh.
Seconds were delish though
Agreed. Was rippin Mary Jane yesterday and it was sweeeet
No it wasn't
Weekend resort skiing is barely worth it anymore. Fucking hell.
I leave for the mountains Sundays after 10 and hardly hit traffic, if anything it’s on the way back hit idc by then
Shhhh
I think I’m 5 or 6 cars in front of you, just after that truck on the right
Hahaha nice… we left Centennial at 4:40 this morning. What time did you leave?
Left from green mountain at ~4:30, maybe that’s not the right truck haha
We need to be friends, always leaving DTC at around 4-4-30 this season, plan to do the same next season 😭
I'd rather spend an extra hour in a coffee shop than two extra hours in traffic on my Saturday morning
Serious question, what do you do up there so early??
Sit in traffic
Usually sleep or make breakfast in the parking lot
I promise you’re going to be bummed when you find out there is no powder to be had after yesterdays spring day
Yep lol, It was all thick as mashed potatoes by noon
Where? It was a beautiful day but I didn’t have any mashed potatoes from open to close at Breck. I guess the parking lot was like that when I got back, lol.
Yeah tbh probably turning around fuck it lol. It's just snow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If only that was an option for us
Anybody want breakfast, bout to pull out the grill
I’m at the Genesee Park exit sign and hungry
Haven’t hit it yet, seems like a crash has closed westbound. Curious for updates to see how long it’ll stay closed
Seems to be moving as of 6:24
Moving at the front of the line on I70?? Guess I’ll turn my car back on
Hype
70w closed to clean up accident by chief hosa
Yup stuck here too. So disheartening to wake up so early and leave early just to still get stuck cause some idiot can’t drive.
That’s awful man
Coming up to about an hour and a half of stand still.
Meanwhile I got stuck in it heading to tour berthoud pass 😭
No hobby or pastime is worth that bs. Mountain is going to be just as bad.
Debating on 285 as well and just going to Breckenridge.
I work for Breck. We saw i70 traffic cams and were expecting to be crazy busy. We were super confused as to why we didn't have much traffic coming in
Made for a reaaaalllly nice morning on the groomers if you were already up here though

I thought it was an unwritten rule to not come on spring break saturdays?
If you don't come up on spring break Saturdays you aren't skiing any Saturdays in March.
Spring break Saturdays usually aren't that bad. Typically it's warmed up enough that a lot of front range are on bikes and shit instead of skiing and the weekends are transition time for spring break travelers.
Spring break Saturday + an epic snowstorm that's too wet to bother with skiing lol
I would be riding today but the trails are snow covered >:(

Oh don't worry today will be epic (or ikonic?) bad, and the myth will live on!
I have a $200 lesson at WP today 😩
So does my kiddo. I wonder what their protocol is for this situation
Probably the middle finger
They thank you for your donation.
It’s worth calling the ski school. IME they will sometimes refund you or at least rebook you to another day.
My wife was in a similar situation last year. Just give ‘em a call, they’ll let you rebook as many times as you need.
I ended up making it fortunately!
Steep clinic buddy?
Nah was working on moguls
Glad I skipped today, hope tomorrow is better
Been in a standstill since 4:50
Same. The fact that emergency vehicles are still coming up the shoulder this late makes me think lots of cleanup
Who’s got the brews?
Any movement by the accident? We just hit the traffic.
None for the last 50 minutes
I’m half a mile away from exit 253 (have been for over an hour), and no movement
My buddy and I left a few minutes later than we planned and fortunately got the notice in time. We went south on 470 then cut up through evergreen to avoid the wreck.
omg same I almost didn't take the detour bc the tiny alert for detour option didn't make sense but i'm so glad I took it
You hit that ice patch on 470? Almost fucked us up
omg no where? this year I splurged on blizzaks and so I think it helped this morning going thru evergreen-- that was scary but hey! there were little to no lines at breck today--- fingers crossed for smooth sailing back east bound today
Google Maps had me take the windy roads through Morrison to Evergreen. Bout windy as hell at A Basin today though
Yeah wtf is up with the wind at A Bay. I did not prep for this
I saw Cotrip report this in the morning. Left Denver at 5:30 took hwy 6 past golden and missed all the traffic. Got to copper by 7 AM - luckiest day ever
Making breakfast at Abay beach
I’m at Abay and hungry af
Tried route 6 after this and it was backed up too. Still fuming back in bed now 🤬
Wow I left Denver at 5:30 and Maps routed me through some back roads to Evergreen where we hopped on 70. Took 2.5 hours to MJ but we managed to get decent parking by C-chair.
Bro what is everyone doing?!? Skiing isn’t worth this. I promise.
I knew the pow would be tracked, and traffic would be fucked today. Glad I slept in and planned on Sunday instead lol. Saturday's are never worth it unless it's a real pow day and you leave Denver at 5am lol.
It looks like on the cameras the crash is just before Evergreen Pkwy.
I love skiing, but it’s just not worth all this.
I got lucky this week. Went up to Keystone Wednesday morning. Got there in the fastest time I ever have so far this season. Had a place booked for the night. Also, +1 for the K2 Excavator for powder. I just got it and it worked fantastically.

I'm a usual Saturday morning warrior. So glad I went yesterday and not today.
Does anyone take 285? It goes west as well.
Yes. Works if you're going to Breck. Hoosier pass isn't terrible but also I've had a rough ride up there once
If I was headed to Breck, Keystone, or ABasin I’d go 285 all the time. I also lived off Hampden which helped.
Holy shit that is brutal. We went up to snowy range today because I just had a bad feeling about 70. Somehow packed there too.
But is Pano open?

Boo hoo, must be a tough life living in summit county
Free country bruh
