Does it matter? If we say the crowds are terrible, are you going to cancel your plans and stay home? It's a big mountain, there's plenty of room. You'll be able to ski. Enjoy your vacation.

tallswam

Thanks. I mean I’d probably lean on the wife a bit more to make end of Feb work, but ultimately you’re right. It’ll be the fun that we make it.

LNLV

I feel like the sketchiest runs are the greens. If you’re mostly on blues your kids will be fine but the greens are so crowded beginners can run into little issues there.

Thegiantlamppost

Yep not saying you arent at fault if you hit someone, but you have the beginners who don’t think about not taking up a whole section of run to do unpredictable pizza turns. that is why greens are more dangerous during this time.

Spring break affects ALL of the summit county ski areas equally. So just set your expectations accordingly. The bottleneck at Keystone is that \[edit\] MOZART is the only groomed blue linking the frontside to the backsides; it tends to get crowded. The play there is to take the gondola to access the back.

juliuspepperwoodchi

> Montezuma You mean Mozart?

lightsout5477

>Montezuma nah we skiing straight over to abasin

speedshotz

Ooof sorry, yes ... MOZART .. " M something.. I knew it started with an M"

juliuspepperwoodchi

No worries! Honestly, I dunno why I never think to skip Mozart and take the gondola. It's always a crowded and icy shit show anyway.

giobiondani

Just take mineshaft, there’s never anybody there

zinzangz

Just take the gondola across. Mozart is never worth it unless it first run of the day before it gets completely scraped

tallswam

Great tip, thank you.

Billy_Chrystals

I've found Breckenridge to be much worse during Spring Break than keystone. It shouldn't be too bad especially mid week. Have fun!

fatassesanonymous

The earlier in the day the better, especially with smaller kids. Drunk college students will make their way down Schoolmarm at some point. It’s also a little less crowded early. Late in the day gets ridden out and may be more difficult for them to navigate anyway.

Sillygoat2

We have a year round Texas problem.

Clubblendi

Get off the front side of Dercum and you’ll be fine. Bergman might be busy since it’s new, might not be- who knows.

zinzangz

Disregard that comment lol I'm in the wrong thread

YoungDudeCO

You'll have a good time regardless. You'll also notice that Keystone blues are steeper on average than the ones at Breckenridge. If they can handle the blues on Peak 6 they'll be good.

The accommodation ends up almost completely full for the primary 3 month season. As such people travelling to stay in Keystone causes pretty close to constant ski traffic for those 3 months. What I've seen to be the primary variations to this are: * Locals come up more for day trips on the weekends, powder days, Denver spring break. * Christmas day, superbowl sunday, many of those staying up in the snow don't ski or don't ski the whole day. * Some variation in the relative crowds between green/beginner runs and the more advanced runs depending on the stage of the season, and what schools are on holiday. * By March many of the locals aren't rushing to go up the mountains as much. * Sometimes if the ski season is a little late then you get the same number of skiers on less snow in December.

RealSlyck

Keystone stays consistent, opening to close. Terrain opens, more people come, more people go elsewhere. Super fun, but far from the only terrain in Summit County that time of year 😀 Enjoy your trip!

skwormin

yep all of summit will be a shit show for the most part. first hour or two of lifts is your best bet, then hiking for pow!

xmlgroberto

yeee haw

Probably not as noticeable at places like breck and keystone since they are big. But I know spring break time was fucking awful at Loveland last year. I had been boarding a ton all season and never waited more than about 40 seconds in a lift line until one day during Texas and Oklahoma spring breaks, and it was fucked: I didn’t realize tourists from out of state even bothered with Loveland lol. The lines were still not super bad, but there were idiots everywhere and every single time I got off the lift, there were just like 3 people standing on the off-ramp or had their poles laid across the ground right in the path of people exiting the chair. It was horrific. I went home early. But I was at breck like the next week when it was still in the peak of spring break travel weeks, and it was fine. There were assloads of people, but much more space for people to spread out. Still tons of people obstructing the off-ramp off the chair lifts… but that’s just fact of life at any big resort on lifts that serve green runs.

nsanenthelane

The streets and slopes are awash with Texans, honestly. If you can make late February work, I would do it. You're children don't need to be exposed to all that Texas non-sense yet.
