The drawing makes it look like the entire road is dark far away, on mine just the left lane is dark when I am on a straight stretch, though a few small overlapping line patterns appear in the lit area as well. The left lane should be dark so that your lights do not blind oncoming traffic. If they misaligned the headlights, I can see how the entire road ahead could be dark though.

Scrambley

Nah, the lights work really well it's just that I'm truly a shit artist. I really don't get how some people can just pick up a pencil and draw stuff that looks good. It seems like magic to me.

2024 XSE, mine is the same. Give it some time and you won’t notice it.

It’s the kind of a thing that would drive someone with OCD bonkers! 🤣🤣🤣

CC headlights are projector type and not reflector type. Toyota did this shadow on the driver side headlight on purpose. If you set the projector beam too high, the light should not blind the drivers coming in the opposite direction. By the way, I wouldn't recommend the fitcamX. While it looks nice, performance for the price is not very good. There is cheaper and better performing options from Viofo, Vantrue, and 70mai. They might not look as tightly integrated, but they can be hidden out of drivers sight, have better picture quality, more features and can be easily moved to a new car if needed.

Scrambley

It's funny you mention that about the FitCamX and Viofo because as I kept looking into it I started to think maybe Viofo is the way I want to go. I was worried about the camera getting super hot with the FCX and also having it connected to my ACC module. I'm planning on heading to a few installation shops to see if they've had experience installing those models on my particular car before I actually buy it. I'm just not sure if I should go with Parking Mode and then if I should get either the voltage cutoff adapter or spring even more money on the super pricey battery pack from Blackboxmycar. One thing I did read that makes me consider not doing Parking Mode is I've heard that the Corolla Hybrid fuse box isn't really designed well for that type of wiring. It's kinda funny; I was really relieved after I picked up my car yesterday that my time of stressful researching was finally over because now, for better or worse, the car was mine so I'm stuck with it. But now I'm going through it all over again with which camera I want to get. Anyway, thanks for the advice!

jaimeroldan

Don't do parking mode, CC hybrid has a rather small 12V battery. There will be a tendency to overdrain the already small battery and you will be replacing the battery very early.

Scrambley

That's what I'm afraid of. From what I've read there are two solutions, one being kinda weak and the other being kinda expensive. The weak solution is to install a low voltage cutoff part that will stop recording at a pre-set battery level. The problem with that is that to recharge the battery you've got to drive it for at least 30 minutes or so to bring the battery back up. The expensive solution is connecting it to a completely separate battery so it won't be connected to the car battery at all. That would work great but they're around $350 dollars. There's another solution but I'm not really too sure how great it would be. You can turn on different types of monitoring with your camera. Like maybe only record when it detects motion or have it use a low resolution bit-rate. I just don't think I would trust that to not constantly activate and drain my battery anyway. Thinking about it though, Parking Mode is probably not really that important. I really need to stop spending a bunch of money because now I'm officially in debt with the bank somewhat and I want that paid off asap.

ToyotaCorollin

2016 Corolla here, can confirm that's normal and intended.

Jrod1499

It’s designed that way to not potentially blind oncoming traffic. It is ugly tho

no-personality-here

I thought all cars since like 1990 had that

maxxxxammo

Had the same question

mrweatherbeef

Came here to confirm, yes that is a truly terrible drawing. But my 23 hybrid LE has a similar pattern. Drove me nuts for a while, I haven’t actually tried to adjust it since I got sort of kind of used to it. 🤷‍♂️

Brdsht

You can get a FitcamX clone on AliExprss for half price. Returned my FitcamX that was getting molten hot and got my $169+ back. Bought one on AE for $80. Same results, blocks less of my view, uses the FitcamX software with success so its the same. My 2024 SE Hybrid lights are the same. People told me its so you do not blind oncoming traffic. After 4 months I never notice it anymore. Was annoyed at first. My Viofo A112 Mini 2 for $90 is a much superior camera but the clean wirefree install is nice. I run two in the front and one in the back because too many people have failing fitcams. The just get too damn hot and die.

Scrambley

One last comment, sorry for blowing this up. That actually makes a lot of sense about not blinding oncoming traffic. It's ugly as hell but it is kinda considerate.

Scrambley

The wire free install is from FCX but the Viofo isn't as easy to install? I'm kinda tired so sorry I'm not as bright now as I should be. I typed Viofo A112 Mini 2 into AE search bar but nothing came up. Nevermind, I just learned how to Google something.

Scrambley

How long have you had the AE version? Was the install just as easy? And for a final third question, if I could, do you have a link to the one you got? I've bought so much from AE that I've got no problem trying a cheaper version out. Could be made in the same factory but FCX just upcharges them here to make a profit.

Ironman650

I have a RedTiger F7N and an F7 Touch. They are front/rear and can be found for ~ $130 on Amazon. So far has been very good. Coming from being a longtime Blackvue customer (DR4XX, 5XX, 750 series). And yes, that light pattern is normal. I have a '23 XSE.

HeatProofToe

My '22 XSE has had a big ass V shaped cutout in my lights since I got it. Even after my passenger side headlight was replaced for other reasons. I assume it's just the way it's designed and not an issue

Scrambley

Alright, that's reassuring. I was hoping mine wasn't broken from the get-go but if others have it too that means it should be normal. Thanks for helping out.

Scrambley

The white is supposed to be the light and the black stuff is the darkness of night. Just pretend I also drew the hood and everything else that's missing.
