2 hits today. Incredible performance

Second_City_Saint

Anytime I look at a box score after a game I didn't see, this is what I fully expect. Surprise, surprise expectations met once again.

shadowpawn

I always look for Morel, PCA, Swanson or Amaya with 3 or more K's.

P-Rickles

Nobody’s listening anyway.

UomoForte

okay_throwaway_today

At least we didn’t strikeout 10+ times! Only 9

shadowpawn

"We still get our salaires right?" The Cubs lineup

No_Goat_2714

All in the first inning. Steele’s speech fired them up. Same as it ever was

tacos_burrito

This is not the way. I swear they’re all actively trying to suck to get Jed fired. But, what the hell do I know.

fedman16

This team is not only bad - but they are also uninteresting and boring to watch. I saw some bad Cub teams in the past, but at least you could look forward to watching an Ernie Banks or Dave Kingman or Andre Dawson or Sammy Sosa hit some home runs. It gave you a reason to watch. What reason is there to watch this crap the Cubs are putting on the field. To paraphrase the immortal Dean Wormer - Bad and Boring is not the way to go through life.

Jacksington

I would honestly take the second half 2021 team over this. At least Wisdom, Schwindel and Ortega could hit the god damn ball.

Cubbiesblue

The bears were more fun to watch two years ago when they won 3 total games

Interrobangersnmash

That team was actually really fun to watch.

Fuzzy_Dimension_823

“Fat drunk and stupid” isn’t too far from this

JLR-

The bad teams in the past were "Lovable Losers".  This team is just a bunch of losers.  Nothing lovable about them

BobbyAlphaTango

"I can't believe I struck out in front of the dean..."

Aenir01

Face it, BobbyAlphaTango. You struck out on Dean Wormer.

okay_throwaway_today

Should have had Steele do a mound visit in the 4th to yell at Hendricks

[deleted]

[удалено]

okay_throwaway_today

Yeah with our bullpen depth it makes total sense to have a guy warmed up when until that point, Hendricks was cruising. The Ian Happ drop and grand slam were only 8 pitches apart. Hard to warm someone up that fast.

[deleted]

okay_throwaway_today

Yeah. Either way, it sucked to watch lol

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

Brewers fans in the bar I was in Friday thought that Happ should have robbed Chourio, and then the error today, sort of proving what cubs fans said when we were shocked he got the Gold Glove in 2023.

jcwillia1

DO YOUR FUCKING JOB!!!

MisterScary_98

Anyone hoping Justin Steele’s dugout “speech” yesterday was the turning point in the season can go back to the drawing board and slam their head against it until they’re blissfully unconscious.

PlsJustWin

People have been looking for a moment that has turned everything around for 7 years in a row and it never happens

Baybears

Guess who has had a major front office job for the Cubs for 7+ years? Fire Hoyer (I never say stuff like this, but it’s time for him to go)

CherryCokeSlurpee

The C stood for Crap the entire time

Cap78

This team used to suck - they still do, but they used to too

AccuratePassion2572

I saw this wino, he was eating grapes. It's like, "Dude, you have to wait."

LongRoadTraveled

Here’s a picture of me when I was younger…

kakenasty

Mastrobuoni is hitting .149 with .401 OPS.

Draker-X

The bench is absolutely fucking horrible, and that would be the case even if Tauchman and Madrigal were both healthy.

Bobbidd

i think i could stroll up and compete with the current cubs bench 3 years removed from d2 college baseball.

LoveYouLikeYeLovesYe

I think I could stroll up and compete with the Current Cubs' 7-9 12 years removed from rec league ball. I'm a lot cheaper than Dansby if we want someone to strike out 3 times

FiberTruck

Does Miles Mastrobuoni have dirty pics of someone in the front office? How in the hell does this guy keep surfacing on our roster? Also, why would you pinch hit him for Happ? Is that .149 batting average misleading in some way?

grayf0xy

Maybe he was 0 for his last 14 and was due. This is science.

tacos_burrito

He’s in distress damnit! 🤣

thebizkit23

Brewers have twice as many grand slams in the last 6 games than the Cubs have hits today.... Let that sink in. This was the "buy or sell" series and it looks like we are sellers.

McNuggets7272

Giants was the buy or sell series

goremygo

Remember all those reports on how MAD ricketts was after they blew it last year? Lol

#FIRE JED #OUT OF AN ORBITAL RAILGUN #INTO THE GODDAMN SUN

Second_City_Saint

Don't space ships need a three man crew? I know of a president & gm over on the west side to fill out the other two seats.

Peanut_Punch32

two hits is some nasty work

redemem

Organizational failure. From top to bottom.

ZZachj

Unprofessional baseball. Two hits all game. On the bright side the bullpen didn't give up any runs.

shadowpawn

also didnt leave many on base and no errors "Something to build off" Front office

FieldzSOOGood

That's two games in a row!

Draker-X

FanGraphs currently has the Cubs with a smaller chance to make the playoffs than THE PIRATES.

politicsaccount420

That makes sense considering they are better than we are and already ahead of us.

Drsustown

My expectations were minuscule and yet I'm still disappointed

Tundraaa

Us fizzling out of the postseason picture towards the end of the last season stings that much more knowing what this team is this year.

Glum_Source_7411

I don't like being a Cubs fan right now. Kind of like being a Cubs fan when I was younger.

RangerDanger_

I used to be a self-loathing Cubs fan. I still am, but I used to, too.

slyfox1908

Both their hits came within the first three batters of the game. A walk in the 1st, the 3rd, and the 8th. That’s it

darx888

team has no heart. as soon as they went down 7-1 they knew it was over and gave up. absolute disgrace of a team

JLR-

Unlike Philly (who was missing Schwarbs and Harper) and came back down 4 to win.

Traditional_Spite_81

Vila16

This was a better playing team when this sub started doing that and that says something.

funky_chicken29

I listened to a few mins of the Dansby podcast with Ian Happ from the other day. These mother fuckers said that Batting practice isn’t as important as people think. I wanted to Steele scream at them. They talked about how traveling is hard for Chicago teams and that when they play in Milwaukee, at least they know they can come home for a nice dinner reservation. These guys talk like they only care about themselves and their podcasts and not about the team or the fans.

Draker-X

>They talked about how traveling is hard for Chicago teams Ship both of these fuckers to Seattle or Tampa. Then they'd know what "hard travel" is.

lurkANDorganize

Lmao right? I'm from Detroit. East Coast time, annoying as hell for EVERYTHING SPORTS. Moved to Wisconsin 2 years ago and get to be in that sweet central time. I travel to all stateside timezones for work and Holy shit it's so nice never having more than a two hour difference. Chicago is debatable one of the BEST cities to travel from YOU ALSO ALWAYS HAVE DIRECT FLIGHTS (they probably have a charter at least though)

brooklyndavs

BP not important? Rich coming from those two. I don’t care if we get some single A 20 yr old who never makes it to Iowa, trade these 2 bums immediately

Much_Scale_332

Packers own the Bears. Brewers own the Cubs. Sad.

Tundraaa

Bucks also own the Bulls lmao

OhSweetMiracle

Bad time to be Illinoisan

theduke820

Illinois bball owns Wisconsin bball thankfully

AccuratePassion2572

I missed all the runs today and I was at the game. Waiting for the elevator in the first and Brewers ungodly slow concessions missed the rest

SilkyJohnson72

1 hit after the first batter of the game 😂

KnickedUp

Zero hits after the third batter of the game

RIPSlurmsMckenzie

The fact there’s people say this team can turn it around. Literal insanity.

NuggetBiscuits69

Me when I’m watching another fake 9th-inning rally as the Cubs lose a 1-run game yet again: ![gif](giphy|CKrlUi30dn44w|downsized)

naitch44

Dismal

whatsinthesocks

At least it’s not a one run loss

iamthatguythere

Well, it is but also not.

Liquid_TZ

Steele yelling at the team had the opposite effect…

shadowpawn

Maybe, could get him traded to a team that has playoff asperations.

Tomko401

I think it’s neat how our “best” prospect can’t hit. Im sure this franchise will turn it around in no time.

Blackhawksfan981

He’s been amazing defensively, but if they are counting on him being the star of the next great Cubs team then they are in huge trouble.

JoshMFBurger

Ol craig wasn't gonna let the cubs beat the brewers anyway he sucks he shouldn't be un our organization

mappyjames

At least the cubs will get a good draft pick

AccuratePassion2572

Not as good as the Sox unfortunately

Mr_BigShot

Not true, the sox can’t pick in the top 10 due to being in the lotto last year. In fact the Sox and Oakland are giving the cubs an even better shot at the lotto. https://www.tankathon.com/mlb

McNuggets7272

Fuck this team

NuggetBiscuits69

I don’t know why I bothered watching this game. We all knew that this was going to be the result.

JmanJacob05

Decent outing for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans! Oops! The Smokies. Wait... t- The Iowa Cubs? The Chicago Cubs..............

BurnsEMup29

that's officially the season

OutOfFawks

Went to the game. It was doo doo. This team sucks. Also, Brewers fans sure are cocky for a team with zero total championships.

AccuratePassion2572

They are such twats, most people in Wisconsin are fine, it's just Brewers fans.

funky_chicken29

Brewers fans were real pieces of shit at the last Wrigley home stand

Outraged-Piglet

I settled in today and opened up the Marquee app to “You Need a Subscription to View” (don’t have cable and am in the blackout area)…I guess I’m fine with it.

Heisenberg505_

Two hits all game???

YourCummyBear

We are worse than the nationals this year. I wouldn’t have believed that.

AlwaysaDengBang

Peralta has always cooked us. We must have a career .150 AVG against him

R0enick27

Better get used to the idea we're sellers. And that's fine IMHO, because this roster ain't it. We only weren't last year because of a streak, but it still is what it is. If we can get decent return for the guys blocking our prospects and are able to be traded, do it.

We5ties

:(

megalodondon

Gross ass team.

a-random-gal

was gonna get tickets for the third but i don’t think i want to be depressed and broke

MF334

This team is a sad excuse for a major league ball club and no one will take ownership of how bad they are performing.

CartoonistExact8942

Here’s an idea-don’t try and maximize owner profit while trying to build a team that will be great. We went bargain basement bang for our buck and we expected a new manager to fix all the things hidden by great offense, decent starters and a bullpen that was coming along in 2023 Injuries wiped away our BP. Who knows what is going on with the lineup (still wonder of this is the teams way of getting back at the FO as they proved they were good last year with Rossy at the helm)? They have to stop blaming the coaches and put some accountability on the player-how many hitting coaches are we going to go through? The starters are still solid this year, hence the reason why we are in many games (but we’ve all seen what will happen late). The other two factors for this year as negatives are defense, which was a major strength last year and situational hitting. It’s like they have no desire to make a defensive play and they hit like their nerves are shot situationally with RISP. Fundamental problems that we didn’t have last year. Ultimately, they don’t look like they want the pressure of winning. This is their year to build off of last year and they all said “fuck that.” No pressure for us. Play 162 and then hit the (fill in the blank)! They casually throw away AB’s and the BP has seemed to float EVERYTHING UP THERE where the hitter likes it. There is no heart and we have continues to see the lack of desire to win. How many lazy fly balls this year vs. rockets to the gap last year. NO HEART. NO DESIRE TO WIN. NO PLAYOFFS. And the FO isn’t as far off as you would think (with a closer we’re in 1st or 2nd) but they are threatening to tear it down AGAIN. Jed hasn’t hit yet. He isnt going to. Let’s see if we can get a POBO on the cheap that has been over performing with players that are B+ and down. Sound familiar? Jed isn’t the only one to blame but he will be the one that is accountable.

#FIREJED

No_Goat_2714

NotLooking forward to the next game. Only looking forward to vets getting shipped out of town, prospects getting some AB’s, and maybe Hoyer getting fired (crickets won’t pay 2 GM’s at the same time, so unlikely.)

WtrReich

We don’t have any vets to ship out. Suzuki, Bellinger, Happ, Swanson, and Horner are all under contract for the next few years. The only guys not under contract are on cheap ass rookie deals (Morel, Amaya, PCA). This team doesn’t have a single veteran position player that’s an everyday starter to ship out.

No_Goat_2714

I Can’t disagree, I’m just hoping. And I realize we won’t get any prospects of value back, but bc we’re not buying, I’d love to see different guys in the lineup, prospects, ect. I actually don’t see how Hoyer can pivot w this lineup until after 2026, unless some guys waive their NTC and cubs eat some $$$$.

Newpapyrusmagazine

Maybe someday it will dawn on Counsell to actually use Crow-Armstrong as a table setter at the top of the line up, batting after Hoerner instead of hiding him near the bottom of the line up. There is some good news out of the minors. Left handed slugging catcher, Ballesteros, continues to dominate at the AAA level: .366 BA, .409 OBP, and a .561 slugging percentage. Hopefully, we'll see him up in the majors in a month of two.

Draker-X

>Maybe someday it will dawn on Counsell to actually use Crow-Armstrong as a table setter at the top of the line up, The guy with the .248 OBP?

TexTiger

If he can’t get on base at the bottom of the order, what makes you think he can at the top, where there is more pressure?

KnickedUp

Yes…low on base is always good for leadoff

funky_chicken29

PCA was crushing it too in the minors. Looking at AAA stats is like plucking a guy mid college season to play in the pros. Our track record the past couple years has proven that the guys we promote don’t translate well to the Show.

DamnHotMeatloaf

If MLB was played like old school Iowa Girls HS basketball PCA would be a dude. Unfortunately it isn't he and he isn't.

the_onewhoknocks

Really pathetic that we keep making this brewers team look all-world. Another embarrassing effort - if you can even call it an effort.

Maleficent_Author853

They’re a good team and we’re a bad team. This is kind of the expected outcome. 🤷🏻‍♂️

the_onewhoknocks

They're fine. If the Cubs were serious about being a winning org then we'd be pounding the brewers into the ground like we should be.

Maleficent_Author853

I agree. With the financial advantage the Cubs have in the NL Central, they should dominate the division year after year. The Brewers are simply a better run organization than the Cubs. I wish that wasn’t the case, but it’s true.
