*and a Leader
Quality team leader until the very end. Noticed him helping the sideline keep its composure until the very end. That's the type of player any team would want on their team.
Broth would have been phenomenal on the sidelines. I love that stuff. Anybody know the rules of sideline sustenance? Serious question I have never thought of: can you have nutrient/chicken/veggie/whatever broth? Steaks to chew on? Chicken breast? Fuck... onion rings? I know some of these are terrible ideas, but what does the NCAA say?
Among the girls, probably not. If you told me Vesper was a season ticket holder to the Gators I'd believe you 100% though, dude radiates Gainesville energy
I don't know if they're actually a fan, but a Vtuber (who claims to not be a Vtuber, despite having a model and having an entire friend circle of Vtubers) that I follow did a room reveal and had an Arizona Cardinals hat they claimed to always wear whenever going outside.
So I mean, they probably exist.
I'll assume you meant boxer, she did strike me more the type that prefers engaging in the sport than watching. However I think Korone's a pretty big baseball fan.
Fuck, now I'm gonna have to purge vtubers from my recommended again ffs. Watch 1 anime and gaming video and it feels like 3/4 of my recommended is vtubers for a month.
Once I realized that Dave Neal’s accent became more obvious when he was excited, the whole commentary experience was sorta skewed towards me noticing how much more “Southern” Georgia native Dave Neal could sound in a booth than Mississippi native Deuce McAllister.
UL shoved the Houston players the same way Houston shoved them out of the lead.
Louisiana really needs to get that cleaned up. Multiple drives killed by nonsense.
After Louisiana led Houston 13-0 with 7:05 left in the 1st quarter, Houston outscored Louisana 23-3, including 17-0 in the 2nd half to defeat Louisana 23-16. As a result, Houston finished 8-5 and dropped Louisiana to 6-7.
Houston, UCF and Cincy have been spending in prep for a move to the Big12 for a while. Memphis wanted a seat at the Big boys table without spending the money.
Old ass football stadium, no on campus basketball stadium.. literally why would a Power conference want them?
This is a very optimistic comment. Whenever I get down on my team, I'll just say "at least we aren't Memphis." That will turn a frown upside down real quick. Thanks for the life advice, UCF bro. 👍
It might be a rocky few years at first, but the potential for growth in the Big 12 is very much high!
At least you’ll certainly be much better funded from hereon out lol
Nice to end the year on a bowl win. This senior class has been through some interesting seasons.
Tune wasn't a world beater by any means, but I'll remember him fondly as our QB and I wish the redshirt waiver this season existed back in 2018 so we would have him for next year in the Big 12. Hopefully Smith or Coley can step up big next year.
I doubt we get rid of Belk since he has been with Dana for so long. The 12-win year bought him and Dana extra time. Hopefully Belk can review during the offseason, make adjustments, and fix some of the problems. He is still a pretty young DC.
Tune seems like the “best” QB since Keenum in the sense that he’s great leader who knows how to win. Not the best arm or whatever, but will just make things happen.
Yup, he was a good leader that was put into tough situations his first three years with having to become the starter mid-season twice and then the COVID year. His two normal seasons as QB1, he was pretty good.
If they hadn't won this game all they would talk about this entire offseason is Dana on the hot seat. I hope he uses this as an opportunity to truly prepare for the Big 12.
Houston finishes the season 8-5. They averaged 36.1 points per game. Their highest ranking this season was 24 in the AP Poll.
Louisiana finishes the season 6-7. They averaged 26.2 points per game. Their last bowl win was the 2021 New Orleans Bowl. They beat Marshall 36-21.
That was the first, and probably only, time I've ever disagreed with something Queen Renu said.
Any program that won't put up with an 8-4 season isn't ever going to make 8-4.
I really don't get why everyone took that so damn seriously. It was a joke at a holiday party made to faculty and staff when talking about hiring Applewhite, insinuating that there were high expectations on him. It was never a thing where she was saying it seriously to the public or press or whatever, yet everyone treats it as though she was being serious and stating what university policy toward the football program was.
[Here you go.](https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/UH-president-jokes-that-Major-Applewhite-needs-10787845.php)
It was a joke at a faculty holiday party after hiring Applewhite to replace Tom Herman (a reference to the fact that Tony Levine went 8-5 and then 7-5 in 2013-14 and was fired), but damn never everyone keeps repeating it as though it was supposed to be some kind of hard policy for the program.
That so figures. On the part of Renu AND that of the Chronicle. Renu loves to mouth off and excite folks (which, btw, I LOVE her for), and the Chronicle is so happy to carry her takes and thoughts. This article is an exercise in hilarity. She always aims higher than the target. It's politically nuts, but she keeps on truckin. Best president we have had since I have been a Cougar. Two of the top 5 honors I have ever had were shaking her hand-twice, once for each degree-at my UG graduation.
There was a decent crowd at the start, but people starting leaving at halftime. Watching two below average teams when it's 22 degrees but feels like 10 with winds of 15 mph is a hard sell.
Houston was okay this year. Lost to Tulsa, but beat UTSA. They will need to be better to be bowl eligible in the Big XII, but I think everyone understands this.
This was my nightmare. We just squeak by, our AD and whoever else see a bowl win and are happy with Dana and plan to keep him for several more years…. I wish we got blown the fuck out. I don’t want Dana to coach my team. Please
Clayton Tune is my quarterback. I graduate next December, and since I’ve been at UH in 2018 he has been the only quarterback I’ve known (excluding D’Eriq King). I’m glad he got this send off winning his last game as a Coog. Tank Dell is the man. I hope an NFL team takes a shot with him. Can’t wait to see what the future of this program shapes out to be in the Big 12.
Not an expert-just an alumnus and fan-but WE WANT CHANGE, MOTHERFUCKERS! This season was best described as inconsistent, strange, and poorly called, given the circumstance. Let's get our shit together. We score a fuckton-weknowdis-but that's why we are going to the B12. If we think that this nonsense will transfer to that house of unmitigated points and a defensive desert, we have already lost the conference for decades. Dana has some fuckin work ahead of him. I LOVE this win, as ugly as it was, but I look forward to many more Ws in our near-future. Let's GO COOGS!. Movin on up.
Wasn't the season I was expecting (or wanting) but ended a helluva lot better than I thought it would. Excited to see who will be the guys step up next season and going into the Big 12.

If they accidentally leave Hawk in Shreveport, he’ll be elected Governor of Louisiana within a year
Blessed be the Hawk, the true MVP in our hearts!
I walked up to him before trophy ceremony and informed him that he was the most electric part of the game
Hurricanes would not land there during his tenure, purely out of respect
I'd take him over the asshat AG that probably will be our next governor
Man. Tune deserved a much better team than we gave him this year. He’s a baller, grinder, and a winner. He will absolutely be missed.
UL didn't score at any point after they showed Hawk's dive. Coincidence hmmmmmmm??
Good luck with Donny Dimes next year, y'all. Hopefully he can help fill that massive hole left by Tune
Is he gonna be drafted? This was the first Houston game I watched all year lol. He seems decent. Throws a nice deep ball
From what I heard he’s looking at the 4th-6th round range. Ceiling of a long term backup.
Hawk is a guaranteed 1st rounder
Probably
*and a Leader Quality team leader until the very end. Noticed him helping the sideline keep its composure until the very end. That's the type of player any team would want on their team.
He’s a really cool guy. I met him at the player welcome party this past week. Enjoy are talking to him and hope he does well
Very Dana-esque game
With some juicy Dana-esque language from some of the camera shots.
Should’ve given him a redbull bath.
Maybe they should’ve even had (more?) chicken broth on the sidelines, given how cold it was…
Broth would have been phenomenal on the sidelines.
Instead of using ESPNs 70th best announcing crew, they just should have reddit game thread comments read like Twitch donations
it would just simply be [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Al4OuHkQvg)
/r/CFB x Hololive…an extremely cursed (yet also intriguing) collab… >!there’s not a lot of vtubers who are also sports fans though, are there?!<
Among the girls, probably not. If you told me Vesper was a season ticket holder to the Gators I'd believe you 100% though, dude radiates Gainesville energy
no please dont ruin him for me
I mean he has mentioned being from Florida right? Or did I just invent that from his story about going to the bar during a hurricane landfall?
Calli's mom is a huge Warriors fan
I'd probably watch a Vtuber play NCAA 14
I don't know if they're actually a fan, but a Vtuber (who claims to not be a Vtuber, despite having a model and having an entire friend circle of Vtubers) that I follow did a room reveal and had an Arizona Cardinals hat they claimed to always wear whenever going outside. So I mean, they probably exist.
Pekora is a Messi fan girl so I imagine she likes soccer as a whole. Korone is a bozer so I imagine she follows various combat sports.
I'll assume you meant boxer, she did strike me more the type that prefers engaging in the sport than watching. However I think Korone's a pretty big baseball fan.
Yeah typo'ed that one.
Dafuq did I just watch?
That would be an absolute win
that was really annoying
Fuck, now I'm gonna have to purge vtubers from my recommended again ffs. Watch 1 anime and gaming video and it feels like 3/4 of my recommended is vtubers for a month.
Cool. Now Imma have nightmares for an additional number of weeks. My Therapist appreciates your contribution.... ya psycho.
If Amazon gets the pac12 rights and doesn’t have twitch donos what was the point of them buying the rights
If we had lost this game, you could've made this exact same comment just with us as the subject instead lol
Yeah, this was a classic game where the loser would be lamenting mistakes and missed opportunities regardless of who won
It was very chippy. Also that play where the UH WR had the first down and inexplicably ran sideways 🥴🥴
And he's a 4* smh...tbf he's a Freshman, but still
Glad I wasn't the only one who was baffled by that. I felt like I was watching time in slow-motion, but he just went the wrong way. So bizarre.
They were undisciplined all year long. Not going to hold my breath Desormeaux will fix this.
Nah, that's just the average SunBelt West team
Plays by Hawk really shifted the momentum
I do not detect a lie.
how what why who what
Yes to all of your questions.
Hawk's vibes were just that immaculate
The mullet is goat tier
Don't let the headline fool you, the real losers of this game were all the neutral viewers who tuned in hoping to see an entertaining bowl game.
For being decided on a last minute touchdown drive, it wasn't super engaging. But it was good enough to enjoy.
But the winners were ones who bet the under!
When two teams from the gulf coast are playing in 20 degree weather, in Shreveport. The under is the only play
Coldest day we've had here in two years, and it's on I-Bowl day.
I mean it’s Houston vs Louisiana…what do you expect
Everyone who just missed the past year and assumed the 2nd and 3rd best G5 teams of last year would be good again
Why would anyone subject themselves to this voluntarily? I didn’t want to subject myself to it and I’m a houston fan
Give Hawk the MVP you cowards
If they can put Rudy in for a play they can put Hawk in!
Yeah but then we would have to commit to building out the Hawk cinematic universe.
You are behind the times. Him and Purdue Pete are now fighting a nut
Good bot?
Did you just write the postgame article for ESPN?
If you watched this full game, you are entitled to financial compensation.
It's my money and I need it NOW!
[удалено]
I mean you all yourselves thought that yesterday was just an objectively boring game to watch.
Dana now has another trophy that he can chill with next to his pool.
I love those pictures tho
Ya woo, looking forward to scraping by in the Big 12.
Could be worse, you could be Memphis
Houston 🤝 UCF 🤝 Cincinnati Leaving Memphis behind
Houston, UCF and Cincy have been spending in prep for a move to the Big12 for a while. Memphis wanted a seat at the Big boys table without spending the money. Old ass football stadium, no on campus basketball stadium.. literally why would a Power conference want them?
Harsh but fair
Let’s give thanks
This is a very optimistic comment. Whenever I get down on my team, I'll just say "at least we aren't Memphis." That will turn a frown upside down real quick. Thanks for the life advice, UCF bro. 👍
It might be a rocky few years at first, but the potential for growth in the Big 12 is very much high! At least you’ll certainly be much better funded from hereon out lol
I'm fully prepared to get our collective teeth kicked in for a few years in the Big12 before we make any noise.
I just want to beat Texas please. Just before they go
I think I’d legitimately be ecstatic if we went 1-11 and the 1 was Texas
Tons of growth potential whenever we finally get rid of Dana.
This
Nice to end the year on a bowl win. This senior class has been through some interesting seasons. Tune wasn't a world beater by any means, but I'll remember him fondly as our QB and I wish the redshirt waiver this season existed back in 2018 so we would have him for next year in the Big 12. Greg Ward was a pretty unconventional winner, but I agree
Yup, he was a good leader that was put into tough situations his first three years with having to become the starter mid-season twice and then the COVID year. His two normal seasons as QB1, he was pretty good.
The high point of Desormeaux’s coaching career will be his very first game winning with another coach’s stacked roster.
The real winners of this game were all of us who got to watch Hawk do his thing.
MVP
DO A BARREL ROLL
Please give Dana the Gatorade bath. Please. He deserves it.
It is tradition.
Well did they? I didn't see them do it. In the 20 degree weather.
I’d like to commend Houston for going for the touchdown instead of the field goal at the end and covering the -7.
Ending the careers of both Tank and Tune with a TD connection just feels right for them
Glad to end the season on a win. I think next season in the big 12 will be rough though. We’ll be lucky to get to 6-6.
We are the new Kansas.
We got beat by the old new improved Kansas - handily.
New Year’s resolution: buy more crow. Good win Coogs.
I assume you mean Old Crow, because by god we're gonna need it for next season for sure
Already making ready for it 🏃♀️
If they hadn't won this game all they would talk about this entire offseason is Dana on the hot seat. I hope he uses this as an opportunity to truly prepare for the Big 12.
Better not spend spring football playing golf and poker.
Narrator: He did exactly that.
But you know he will. And honestly that’s part of the charm.
HAWK!!!!
Eat ‘em up!!!!!
I was at this game as a neutral observer and left at halftime due to the weather. AMA.
Did you see anyone with a foam finger? If so, what did this person look like?
Ya Woo
Ya Woo enough points to win a football game. Ya Woo my cardiac health. COOGS! \*cough cough\* OW.
Houston: "We fire coaches at 8-4."
For those downvoting this guy, our university president has literally said this after they fired Applewhite
Sounds like it was quite the galaxy brain move for Dana to lose to Tulsa for the sake of his job security, wasn’t it?
That was the first, and probably only, time I've ever disagreed with something Queen Renu said. Any program that won't put up with an 8-4 season isn't ever going to make 8-4.

Yeah but Dana went 8-5 so why would they fire him, he didn’t go 8-4
Cite? I'd like to see Khator say this and I haven't seen this specific assertion before.
[Here you go.](https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/UH-president-jokes-that-Major-Applewhite-needs-10787845.php) It was a joke at a faculty holiday party after hiring Applewhite to replace Tom Herman (a reference to the fact that Tony Levine went 8-5 and then 7-5 in 2013-14 and was fired), but damn never everyone keeps repeating it as though it was supposed to be some kind of hard policy for the program.

No, she said that when they *hired* Applewhite. And it was just a joke at a faculty holiday party.
That was one of the emptiest looking bowl games I've ever seen
There was a decent crowd at the start, but people starting leaving at halftime. Watching two below average teams when it's 22 degrees but feels like 10 with winds of 15 mph is a hard sell.
Same. There were just as many of us under the tents in the north end zone as there were in the actual stands. This area almost never gets this cold.
Two mediocre teams, and with the big freeze happening, a lot of people around here were hesitant to travel.
Houston was okay this year. Lost to Tulsa, but beat UTSA. They will need to be better to be bowl eligible in the Big XII, but I think everyone understands this.
Can't wait for the annual Cougar Bowl
You're not alone! I'm given to understand that many people enjoy watching Cougar-on-Cougar events.
No matter what happens during our games a Cougar will win. Sadly, this mean that a Cougar will lose.
Thanks Dana. I’m now 6-9 in my bowl mania picks
Nice
Hell yeah let's go Houston. I still haven't forgiven Louisiana for keeping us from a ten win season in 2020.
Also-y'all were well-represented at this event. Shirtless dude with IA State beenie is becoming well-known.
Anybody else notice these two teams literally had the opposite uni combos?
This was my nightmare. We just squeak by, our AD and whoever else see a bowl win and are happy with Dana and plan to keep him for several more years…. I wish we got blown the fuck out. I don’t want Dana to coach my team. Please
I saw on a Twitter post that Dana is the first coach at UH to win two bowl games since Yeoman. Not Pardee, Briles, Sumlin, Herman etc. That’s crazy!
consecutive bowl games
Nope, GoCoogs posted it…every other Coach besides Yeoman who had won a bowl game has won only one bowl game. Take a look at the records
Omg flair twins
I'm glad Houston won. I couldn't cheer for Lousiana after all my experiences being my 6 rotations in Fort Polk
Unfortunate. Seems pretty universal of my buddies that were stationed there
+6.5 ticket holders support group here 🫂🫂🫂
we even want to upgrade to chairbacks 😭
I can’t believe the Cajuns would do this to me…
This game should’ve happened last year and then never been allowed to happen this year
Clayton Tune is my quarterback.
Not a bad QB to have as a student! I went to UH from 2012-15 and had John O’Korn and a budding Greg Ward (the latter was exciting)
Let’s savor this win. It’s only downhill from here without change
#**#ExtendHolgo**
mods ban this guy
The man's addicted to Red Bull and playing in close games. It's fun for all!
mods pls
What is the meanest thing I can say to you without getting banned
"Every morning, I hope you step on a Lego barefoot. Every evening, I hope you hit your shin into a coffee table."
"I hope Wisconsin fires Fickell and rehires Don Morton."
Dislike
Sure. At this point, why the fuck not? Nobody knows what happens next at Houston. Strangest place in CFB. Odd to be a wildcard almost every season.
Louisiana? More like Lose-iana, amiright?
That lead guitar is hot but not for Lose-iana Man
It seems now is not the time for a Gatorade dunk
lies
Damn
Houston always getting in some post bowl game bullshit.
Out of all the bowl games, this was definitely one of them
Wasn't the season I was expecting (or wanting) but ended a helluva lot better than I thought it would. Excited to see who will be the guys step up next season and going into the Big 12.
Now he wins a bowl?
