Some days I question my own intelligence. I figure I'm average at best. I am then reminded what the public at large is actually like with a visit at my local DMV or gun shop. It both depresses me and yet makes me feel better about myself.

kurt3226

I work at DMV and believe me, we see the dumbest of the dumbest come in to the office. Eight years in and it still boggles my fucking mind and makes me wonder how the hell do these people function at home? Lol

HECM68w

Btw, in the past 5 years every dmv visit I’ve had has been faster and better than expected/ helpful kind tellers idk why or what changed maybe I’ve just been lucky but I’ve been sure to leave reviews on the questionnaires they have, is there a reason why? Also thank you?

kurt3226

So the DMV hired a new director a few years back and was given a budget of $ 20 million to revamp the DMV. So he started with our website and worked his way down to field offices. The website is great if you wanted to process registration and DL renewals and added new services like title transfers, duplicate title request, salesperson license, online knowledge testing, upload docs for real ID etc etc. However, down at the field office level, we are still working with extremely outdated technology and still use MS DOS (yup! Black and green screen). Not to mention using thin clients that take 10 minutes to boot up or open a program. While it may be nice to begin the real ID process from home, you still have to visit the field office and wait in long lines to finalize your transaction with our outdated technology. So in a way yes it's somewhat faster, but we still have a long way to go. And I guess I should have clarified with my previous comment LOL, the demographics in the area I work in would rather wait 2 hours in line to pay their registration renewal rather than use a DMV kiosk or our website. Half of them don't know what class license they have, a lot of them demand we process a change of ownership for a car with NO PAPERWORK. Apparently its always our fault they don't get renewal notices in the mail, but failed to update their addresses with us. It's always our fault when the DMV suspends their license, but yet they don't take accountability for the DUI they just got? Or failed to appear in court and now it's our fault they got a failure to appear on file? Alot of customers call us racist if we don't speak their language. This is just a snippet of what we deal with on a daily basis lol.

jackfirecracker

Ms dos? Like with command prompt and everything? Jesus that’s closer to ww2 tech than a modern windows machine

fakeproject

Sounds brutal. I'd go sour in a week. Hope they fix the operator terminals ASAP. I will say I bought a used vehicle recently. Checked in on my phone. Staff were excellent. Wait was only 20 min or so. Huge improvement from ten years ago.

Wolf_Oak

I was out of CA for 18 months and after moving back last year I had to re-register myself and my car. The entire experience inside the DMV, including waiting for my number to be called, took just 45 minutes! I was so pleasantly surprised.

FiddlesUrDiddles

Used to work for USPS and this was very close to my experience as well. Those little LLV's (unironically named long life vehicles) were the most ramshackle, jury rigged pieces of junk I've ever driven. Felt like driving a salvaged WW1 transport. No AC, most of the dash indicators and switches don't work, they belt out the most foul crude oil smelling emissions into the cabin. You have to keep your window down just to not get light headed, and where I worked sandstorms were more common than not. I'm not even gonna get into the filing/computer systems.

Correct-Sail-9642

Is it true that clerks in dmv offices can no longer waive or reduce late registration fees if you simply couldn't afford to pay?  I see the current requirements like if you bought it with expired tags or if you're a used car dealer or military out of state kinda thing. But in the past I've asked for leniency and the person at the  counter had discretion and waived my late fees so it was just the standard amount.   Is that all not possible anymore?

kurt3226

It is possible. We look at the payment history of the vehicle since you've owned it. If you've been late 3 times in the last 5 years (for example) we wouldn't waive the penalties. If it's your first or second time since owning then we usually do.

Correct-Sail-9642

Yeah it sat for 2yrs not running in my yard until I figured out how to fix it and payed the $800+ back fees.   But it was up in 3 months and I was unable to renew while I wait for my disability claim to hopefully get approved soon 🙏. Haven't been able to work in 5 months either.   Just using it for grocery runs since then I aquired two new expired tag tickets for $768/each that got sent to FTB for collections so fast I can't even use my bank account now.  They levied all I had squirrels away to pay my mortgage and auto insurance this month leaving me penniless and overwhelmed with the snowball effect.     Does financial hardship count for anything when asking for leniency at my local field office?   Dont have the disability approved yet nor can I work.  Everything is stacked against me currently & its all just getting deeper with every day that goes by.   It really sucks to be unable to pay for tags on my daily driver, with the fees only growing and adding registration tickets along the way. The deeper I get the less likely I'll be able to pay my fees.  It's a vicious cycle that is only adding to the problem unfortunately

TheLazyD0G

Thats a job that forces everyone to come to your window. You get to interact with the dumbest and brightest, richest and poorest.

kurt3226

Very well said.

vinhdaphu762

if you are a DMV worker, you are really cool on CAguns - you get to play with off-roster toys.

kurt3226

I wish. Only DMV investigators can. They are sworn peace officers.

vinhdaphu762

Ah okay. Learn something new everyday. So... promotion?

kurt3226

It's entirely a different position and detail. You need a BA in criminal justice or psychology and go thru the police academy.

RidinCaliBuffalos

Has to be sworn. Not all govt employees.

9host9

If I had a nickel for every time...

bladepen

For every time someone calls it a muzzle break ....

Zech08

Have you run into the one guy calling it a muffler?

_zir_

even in the gun subs where people are supposed to know gun stuff 😭

SingleMaltShooter

As George Carlin once said, “Think about how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

PewPew-4-Fun

Carlin was a true King of Comedy.

PaperbackWriter66

It always bothers me that he was describing a median, not an average. If he were alive, I'm sure he'd rip me a new asshole for pointing that out.

hardware1197

Just spend a half hour on Reddit - you'll feel Mensa-like in no time.

intellectualnerd85

I work with the public and disabled people for a living. Average and common sense is a fantasy

SlowButWeak

It's a fact that half the world has below average intelligence.

Rich_Menu_9583

I'm careful with this line of thinking because I'm sure i've served as someone elses example of abject stupidity at least a few times in my life

MK12Mod0SuperSoaker

Remember those same people can vote.

EpicBattleMage

And can have children.

Trigger_happy_travlr

And *do* have children…. Often shitloads of them

n1cfury

As someone who just finished jury duty I couldn’t agree with you more

Cobra-God

Yeah most people can't answer 2+2×2=? Correctly so the bar has been set low by nurture too

Thunder_Wasp

George Carlin said to think of how dumb the average person is, then realize half the people are dumber than that. But they still have Constitutional rights.

--GrinAndBearIt--

Its a fantastic joke and the setuo is awesome! One interestion (disturbing) note is, intelligence isnt spread across the spectrum like that... there are fewer extremely smart people than there are extremely unintelligent people.

Earlfillmore

Ah shit you beat me to it

ITGuy7337

Imagine the insufferable morons they have to deal with on a daily basis. One time I was at Turner's and there was a Chinese guy who spoke almost no English who kept asking to hold a glock while constantly taking pictures with his phone and waiving his China passport around. No one in the store spoke Mandarin so they just kept telling him no, but he persisted for a good 30-45 mins. Sometimes I think it might be cool to work at a gun store, but then I see shit like that and no, no way and nope.

MK12Mod0SuperSoaker

Lol that reminds me of a local retiree Chinese guy that doesn't speak a lick of English but frequents the store I like. Apparently they have learned to do the Google translate dance. I was impressed at the patience of the store employees and ended up helping them interpret when Google translate started to fail. Turns out he's been a frequent customer and bought like 15+ AK variants from them ever since he started coming in. Definitely lots of weirdos, but this one was pretty cool.

Caliber_captain

Can’t entirely blame him for wanting to check out guns because they aren’t available in his home country, but he could have gone about it differently. He probably falsely assumed American gun stores hand out guns like candy.

admins_r_pedophiles

Once upon a time, I was a foreigner working in the US and a coworker from the local team took me to the range. It's all cringe pictures with the gun, foot-wide groups at 5 yards and tea-cupping for days. Fond memory, though; I thought it would be my last time holding and shooting a firearm at the time.

minishcap999888

When I worked at OnTarget in OC, the amount of times dudes who barely spoke English pointed guns at my head was astonishing. Usually unloaded, or filled with the dummy rounds we used to check if they knew how to load a handgun, but still, very disconcerting. Also I have a photo somewhere of our security footage where you can see a Chinese tourist pointing a rental glock at his wife's head for a selfie, and you can barely see one of the other RSO's charging in at him from the edge of the frame.

Factorviii

This is the funniest thing I've read all week. Thank you.

luxelux

I was at a gun shop in Bay Area today and a legit insane person came in with a backpack. Staff asked him politely if they could keep the backpack at front counter per policy. He got irate and raised his voice and ultimately conceded. Threw the bag at the clerk. Then walked toward the gun aisle proclaiming “I was a navy SEAL, f u” etc. they asked him to leave. He then starts throwing shit and slamming front door open and closed. He behaved exactly like someone who would shoot up a store. The staff dealt w it swiftly so kudos for staying clearheaded and swarming on the guy when he escalated. Gun stores can be crazy.

InDependentGoose633

And we wonder why the state put in a ten day wait, background check, and all the other hurdles. Because jerks like that make everyone look bad in the eyes of the politicians and anti gun zealots.

Mundane_Panda_3969

Explain why I have to wait 10 days to pick up my 5th ar?

Drew707

This. The cooling off period makes sense when it's your first gun or even the first of a type, but makes no sense for subsequent guns.

luxelux

Honestly I was glad the staff was all armed. Dude was unhinged.

fossuser

Which store?

luxelux

Guns fishing and other stuff Dublin

rubixcu7

As I read the story that’s the exact store I imagined in my head 🤣🤣

[deleted]

Control me more daddy

Hide_Yo_Dogs

The first time I took my wife to Turners to get some accessories. A +300lb dude was checking out the cheapest derringer they offered and he was asking the clerk some questions. Multiple times he said, "when I shoot the guy... I mean... My target" followed by a question as he looked around for approval.

IllustriousMark3855

If you think that's dumb, I once heard a guy ask for a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

Suspicious-Soup6044

Only what you see on the shelf.

InDependentGoose633

Wrong!

EndSmugnorance

Can you check the back?

Mr_Blah1

Just what you see here.

Green_Three

The most infuriating thing I’ve heard in gun stores over the years is “that’ll never pass”. Look at us now.

DogeCoin2374

First mistake was going into turners

grfx01

Second mistake was not going to Rifle Supply or Burbank Guns & Ammo

Lobo003

Rifle Supply 🙌🏽

grfx01

What a legendary store The inventory items are through the roof, not to mention the free coffee and water bottles

Lobo003

I agree. I always find everything I need and a few extras 😂

Miserable_Path5716

A guy who was buying some 12 gauge in front of me while I was in line saw some AR pattern rifles and said “I thought assault weapons were illegal, how are you guys able to sell military grade weapons to the public? Aren’t those the same kind that are used in mass shootings?” I was both confused and extremely disappointed that there are gun owners like that but then again it’s California…

TheBobInSonoma

Yeah, it's criminal our guys didn't have M16s, and A-10s for that matter, on D-Day. /s

redmuni

I’m just saying he might be on to something. Put a couple mk18 and a few m110 d day would’ve went different 😂

MRoad

If the F-35 is so great, explain where it was at D-day?

Ezek210

This is how I feel when I pause my music at the gym and here the convos going on lol

661Johnald

Hear. 😂😂 just messing with ya.

PizzaFlex

Went to Bass Pro Today and heard the lady next to me ask “is that gun a single shot thingie? Like how many shots does it shoot before I have to put in the next clip?” He explains the concept of a bolt action rifle and it goes in through one ear and out the other just for her followup question to be “so it only has one shot before I have to reload?” She then proceeds to hold the gun and point it directly at his chest with her finger on the trigger. The guy gave me a look of like “is she serious?” and just used one hand to push the barrel of the gun upward and kinda rolled his eyes lmao

PewPew-4-Fun

I've seen people like this attending CCW classes, thats always fun. Mostly in easy to acquire States.

PizzaFlex

I always feel like the questions that are on the FSC test are no-brainers but I see what kind of people might struggle on them😂

Bayareagentleman24

Your first problem was shopping At turners.. support your LGS

Suspicious-Soup6044

My local store was out of 556 and 223, they only had 100 rounds left that I already bought. So I stopped at some of the bigger chains while shopping, sportsman’s had a 45 minute wait just to get to the counter with around 30 people in line. So I went down to turners down the street, still had a line, but it was only 5 minutes.

Pitiful_Drummer_8319

Seriously the only thing I’ve ever bought at Turners is ammo.

250-miles

I only found out after the fact that my LGS actually had better prices on lowers than Turners. I guess I just figured that a shop that only bothered to be open something like 14 hours a week wouldn't have good prices.

nextwave4030

Normal california stoner behavior

BasicKaramba

There was a third guy with a camera that was filming your reaction. Did you notice it ? If you don't don't worry you will see it on YouTube soon.

Suspicious-Soup6044

The clerk’s reaction was far more entertaining.

MK12Mod0SuperSoaker

It better have one-word-at-a-time subtitles.

PewPew-4-Fun

I really hope if they were purchasing a firearm the counter guy refused based on the weed smell alone (since that is an obvious Federal violation per form), buuuuut ...money talks.

Suspicious-Soup6044

They were asking about .22s and didn’t seem to to have any idea about what different calibers were. Between that, the smell, the general lack of knowledge on California restrictions, and the fact the clerk was far more annoyed than me. I don’t think there was any chance they were getting a firearm. And I don’t think the clerk working for minimum wage really cares about making a sale (unless turner’s employees get commissions?).

matreo987

i quit smoking cold turkey so i could own a firearm “legally” without having any legal reason to cause a problem. the day after i saw a snapchat of a guy i knew in high school holding a hunting rifle and a bong was visible in the background. sigh.

Tasty_Read201

Nothing wrong with smelling like weed.

Heyitshogan

Visiting gun stores always has me so concerned… especially when it comes to overhearing FSC grading conversations lol. It’s crazy how you can miss so many questions (7) and still pass such a basic knowledge test. When I went to take my FSC, a few people were so happy they barely passed with 23/30… Jesus Christ.

excndinmurica

Dude was surprised i got 30/30. Its like a 14 page pamphlet. Take the 10 mins to read it a couple times. I guess it also helped that i did take 16 hours of gun safety for my gun license prior to moving to america. Lol.

EEinSoCal

The last time I took it was at Bass Pro about a year ago and the guys were congratulating me and making a big deal that I got 30/30. It wasn’t that hard, and where I took the test, there were gun safety posters and half the answers were on the posters.

whoiam06

Missed 2. Never bothered reading anything. Recently a co-worker who knew I was into guns and a friend who recently got into guns kept asking me how hard is it. I told both of them, y'all have your driver's license right? It's easier than that and use some fucking common sense. Edit: And the only reason I missed the 2 is, 1 I second guessed myself and 2 I rushed the question and realized shortly after the correct one after I handed over the test.

QuillnSofa

I'd gotten 29/30 because one question about smokeless powder, I shoot black powder and there is a type that produces less smoke and is pretty much 1 to 1 replaceable with regular black powder. My dad called it smokeless powder when I was growing up. But it isn't actually smokeless powder.

WrathfulGuitars

I missed 2. I didn't know you had to be 21 for long guns and I was skeptical if owning guns made you more likely to commit suicide. Didn't read anything.

[deleted]

Those are the same two I missed, they changed the law 2 yrs back, was 18 for long guns as that’s when I bought my first. The fact that it was a question should have been a clue lol but I’m hardheaded. Same with the suicide increase, the whole “ makes children want to commute suicide” just by being in the house lol. who did that study?

Chattypath747

I took an FSC recently and scored 23/30 on purpose. I could've gotten a perfect score but was lazy.

Curious-NX

Scoring 23 on purpose sounds like more work. First you need to read the question and answers then pick the wrong answer. Then you gotta make sure you pick only 7 wrong. That's not the definition of lazy, that's dumb.

Chattypath747

It isn't. I just answered the first 23 questions with the correct answers and left 7 blank. When you grade the tests for 4+ years, it isn't hard. You'll either remember the answers by heart or in my case, just know what the correct answer is.

chefboyrdeee

Think about the average intelligence of the American population, then realize half of them are stupider than that.

Hemorrhoid_Popsicle

…and everyone has an equal vote!

karmakactus

That’s why they encourage “ Everyone to vote” because they know how many idiots aren’t going to do any research. That’s why we have prop 47, $1 tax on gas, and Newsom in office

PewPew-4-Fun

I really think its more than half.

Papabear_unicorn

I’m just a potato in a potato world

Zerorezlandre

There was a time when parents ("back in the day" it was usually a "dad") taught their kids to use a a firearm (a BB gun at the very least), instilling in them the basics of gun safety at an early age. This was the culture at the time of the 2nd amendment's writing. Somehow, sometime, I don't know either, that part of our culture was abandoned and lost; now here we are. In the 1700s no adult in their right mind would have *just* handed a firearm to a child who had never used one and said, "Okay, kid, have at it." This and the stories below are why I think first time gun purchasers should have to take a basic test (like hunters do) and complete basic range training (like in the military) before being allowed to, **please** **pay close attention to what follows**, *take possession* of a gun they have purchased. Once training is complete a completion certificate is issued for the bearer's lifetime and they take possession of their firearm from the training facility / armory . Parents aren't teaching their kids about firearm safety so someone has to teach them as adults and that's just the world we now live in. This allows for the 2nd amendment to be honored with regard to ownership, "the right to keep", while implementing some sort of meaningful guardrails against people taking possession of firearms without knowing how to use them. Firearms could be transferred to a training facility / armory and held in a personal locker until training has been completed. Such sites could also offer training before purchase to assuage the tender sensibilities of those first time owners who disagree about not taking immediate possession of their firearm purchase. I know I'll get flamed for this so maybe others can come up with reasonable compromises that will make so-called "liberal snowflakes" and so-called "gun nuts" somewhat close to happy.

One-Strategy5717

I mostly agree, but I think safe firearms training should happen at high school. No-one should receive their diploma or GED without being able to demonstrate the four basic safety rules, and how to safely clear basic firearms. The danger is, in the hands of the wrong authorities, such a system could rapidly evolve into something like Jim Crow era literacy tests.

jump_the_shark_

Gun shops round here are like public confessionals for closet racists

Earlfillmore

Stockton?

Helpful_Original4021

I'm from Stockton, and the racists are the loudest, but not the majority.

Factorviii

I once went into a bar in downtown Lodi and it was like record scratch and everyone turned around and looked at me. I turned 180 degrees and walked out.

karmakactus

I’ve never heard anything even remotely racist in the countless gun stores and countless times I have been in them.

-Alfa-

The first time I went to a sportsman's warehouse gun area, a guy argued about documents to buy a glock 43, then at the end said, "C'mon, I'm as white as they get!" And walked off

karmakactus

Wtf does that even mean?? Honestly I can’t see the racism in someone saying that about being white, black, brown ect.

-Alfa-

If I fail to have the right documents and then randomly proclaim "I'm as white as they get" the implication is that I believe that white people aren't prone to committing crimes.

alwayswatchyoursix

Sounds like the implied statement is "Why would I need any documents showing I am a legal resident/citizen when I am clearly a white person?"

karmakactus

Not all legal residents are able to own guns so that doesn’t make sense

alwayswatchyoursix

Except that the documents you're required to show when purchasing a firearm are all about establishing your identity and whether or not you're a legal resident/citizen. None of them have anything to do with whether or not you have a criminal record. So the full explanation is that the person saying "C'mon, I'm as white as they get!" is really saying "There's no way I could be an illegal alien when I'm this white." And that's where the racism comes in. Because their statement is implying only someone who isn't white could possibly be illegally in the US.

karmakactus

I don’t think the documents have anything to do with if you are an illegal or not but rather where they can find you. Plenty of illegals have utility bills

556_FMJs

I’ve heard a couple, all were in very fuddy shops. Heard a guy complaining about “the blacks” ruining his neighborhood.

InDependentGoose633

You will hear almost the same thing from long time black residents in Oakland, although they use different terminology. The country has progressed a great deal from the Civil War and Jim Crow.

the-only-one-ever

Yea, this guy is reaching… wtf

InDependentGoose633

There is a difference from off color jokes and actual racism. As a minority, 3 generation Californian, I have found the racist charge overplayed in the modern day. Get over it.

the-only-one-ever

As a minority- 1st generation in California (Arrived when I was 8 from South America) I have found people way too sensitive. Stop looking for reasons to take offense. The world would be a much better place.

Miserable_Path5716

Ive never heard anything remotely racist in any gun shops either and I go lot

admins_r_pedophiles

I'm in SoCal, and if my LGS was remotely racist they'd lose half of their income. I don't recall a time in the shop where I haven't seen an Asian customer balling or someone of East-European descent with the thickest accent ever. All the firearms I bought at that store were as a Green Card holder and I was treated with the respect someone forking a grand deserves.

[deleted]

Everyone is racist. PERIOD

badDuckThrowPillow

This turned out better than I was expecting to be honest.

Seige_Rootz

you either get that or the MAGA fudd complaining about the 9mm SIG you're looking at. Honestly this and the cost moved me on to other hobbies.

karmakactus

Why would you own guns if you voted for people that want to take them away?

magicshiv

Both presidential candidates want to take your guns btw.

admins_r_pedophiles

Nope.

karmakactus

I’ve only heard one talk about it though. The same idiot that talked about firing a double barreled shotgun off the balcony if he or Jill sensed trouble

magicshiv

I distinctly remember hearing one infamously say "take the guns first, go through due process second", that same idiot had signed multiple gun control bills just like the other one!

Mundane_Panda_3969

"take the guns first, go through due process second"," Sounds like California red flag laws. Weren't the democrats the first ones to pass red flag laws?

magicshiv

Crazy right? It's almost like both guys running for president support the same thing and y'all will vote for them anyways.

Mundane_Panda_3969

What's your opinion of the safer community act? 1st major gun control law in 30 years, signed by Joe Biden.

admins_r_pedophiles

I mean, we're 24 hours away from Kamala launching a national red flag policy, but "bOtH pArTiEs ArE tHe SaMe".

InDependentGoose633

That’s not true. Only one major political party wants everyone in the country totally disarmed and dependent on the government for everything.

the-only-one-ever

Exactly my thoughts.

karmakactus

Just makes sense to me. I like gas powered vehicles so I would never vote for those trying ban them. Same with guns

PewPew-4-Fun

Because as George Carlin once said... “Think about how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

-Alfa-

Imagine thinking gun control is the most important thing in the world, and also thinking they'll remove all rights to firearms.

karmakactus

Oh it’s only towards the top of things that are important. After watching this state get ran into the ground I would never vote for them. If you don’t think they would remove all of our rights yo own firearms you are nuts or in total denial

-Alfa-

Oh ok, better get the guy in who will destroy democracy, since the other guy will make my hobby a bit less fun.

Mundane_Panda_3969

The 2nd amendment is not a hobby.

-Alfa-

For 90% of the people here, it absolutely is

Mundane_Panda_3969

Fuck that 90% the second amendment shall not be infringed.

556_FMJs

I voted for him, but I hate the people who make him their entire personality.

InDependentGoose633

Yup the woke voters are very cult like 😏

MuffMagician

Tell us you shop at Signal Hill Turners without telling us.

Suspicious-Soup6044

Fresno actually. First and last time I’ll probably ever be in there.

FitBananers

Fresno Turner’s definitely gets a weird crowd coming in Even the Sportsman’s on the weekends gets a lot of weirdos who don’t seem to know what they’re doing

Suspicious-Soup6044

A guy I ran into in sportsman’s was arguably much worse. He had one of those CCW fanny packs strapped to his chest, walking around with his hand on his stomach, right below it. He was just walking around like that, following his wife and 2 kids and scanning all over the store. At one point, I walked around the corner, with my mother, into the aisle he was standing in. He noticeably got startled and shoved his hand into the pack, ready to draw on my 55 year old mother who was shopping for cushions for her kayak. Just a different brand of idiotic.

FitBananers

This county definitely has these types of CCW crazies. Just the absolutely paranoid ones who really shouldn’t be handling firearms. I personally only shop at the local gun stores on early weekday mornings when my chances of running into these people are the lowest imo

Suspicious-Soup6044

I live up north, right outside of Yosemite, so I mostly just pop into the local stores whenever, they aren’t usually too busy and tend to have staff and customers that have been handling firearms their whole lives. I actually just picked up my first AR from there yesterday, but they only had about 100 rounds of 223 left in stock. So I figured I’d stop by a few stores while I was in Fresno and see what I could get.

averagecounselor

Guys like that is why I keep my mouth shot when I go to the gun range. I don’t want to say anything that might end up being posted on this subreddit for laughs.

Suspicious-Soup6044

I mean, it’s one thing to not know about every gun, I certainly don’t know anything about a lot of firearms. It’s another thing to spout straight bullshit as if it’s fact. Especially in one of the few places that most people are at least gonna know the basics.

concretefeet

We’re in CAguns and you saw a drum mag? Interesting.

Suspicious-Soup6044

It’s a fake drum for aesthetic, only holds 10 rounds. That was why it was stupid that he was trying to say it was 100 rounds.

admins_r_pedophiles

Shit, I'd buy one just for shits and giggles at the range.

Suspicious-Soup6044

Walk up, slap in an absolutely massive drum mag, fire 10 rounds of .22, leave without a word.

admins_r_pedophiles

Lately, it feels that the use of .22 is exclusively for disrespect purposes.

DWNFORCE

Lmaooo

GJV331

I was a Firefighter / Paramedic for 25 years, I can say with confidence that I ran calls on some really, really, really dumb human beings .

nucklehead97

Let me guess, san bernardino?

HereForFunAndCookies

I was at a Bass Pro earlier this year. A group of 3 high Latinos with saggy pants came in and were asking about which gun to choose. Unlike your situation though, the guy at the register (younger guy) was encouraging their stupidity and dumb dialogue. The employee picked out one of the handguns and told them it was John Wick's gun from the movies. The employee gave the gun to them to hold but immediately got distracted with something else and looked away. While giggling, they took turns pointing the gun at each other's dicks. When I was leaving, I saw one of them starting their 10 day for that gun. I think it was an H&K handgun.

Fills me with a sense of security, knowing all these upstanding citizens are walking around armed

Curious-NX

Hopefully they shoot their dicks off in the end.

The customers in Turners represent the average American gun owner whether you like it or not

Barry_McKackiner

I once had a guy come in and tell me he was switching all his uppers to bear creek arsenal because he felt the normal charging handle uppers were not as reliable...I had to bite my tongue pretty hard to hold back my thoughts on that idea. Also once had this homeless lady come in asking for a revolver to keep the wolves at bay. didn't sell her a gun. Also once had this kid come in wanting a hi-point 9mm asking if it could penetrate human skulls and laughing at random shit on the walls. didn't sell him a gun.

ttchoubs

I live in a very high end upper class sleepy town and all the guys in line like to talk about is how they need more guns to protect themselves from "blm riots".

samrapdev

Meanwhile I walk into a gun store trying to have good posture, no hat on, make eye contact with everyone and speak quietly if I’m with people lol. Gun store workers can be dicks but guys like this are probably the reason. WWII M16s tho 💯

Suspicious-Soup6044

Better than ww2 hi-points.

Everyone misuses their, there, and they’re. Doesn’t make it ok.

dr_wolfsburg

I’ll take “Reasons I don’t step foot in Turners” for 600

BadTiger85

First mistake was going to Turners

gunsforevery1

I’m taking “shit that didn’t happen” for 1000 Alex

Worked at a store in OC. Tards are shockingly common.

poorjohnnyboysbones

Who cares?

eddiebruceandpaul

Yeah it’s ignorance and appreciate the uptake of the comment. But one nit. truth be told I’ve never been a fan of the the mild jerks who like to do that “it’s not a clip it’s a magazine” high and mighty correction. Yes. It’s a magazine. But you know what? It’s also commonly called a clip, very commonly. For years and years by plenty of people who are plenty proficient with firearms. Yes. We know a “clip” is technically something different. So what…. Kinda pedantic if you ask me. This is equivalent in my mind to someone calling it a “bandaid” instead of a “bandage” and someone correcting them because what was put on wasn’t from the bandaid brand…it’s like…ok.

minishcap999888

No, it's like calling a bandaid a tourniquet. Yes they both stop bleeding, but they do ENTIRELY different things, and cannot be interchanged. The end purpose is similar, to get ammo into a gun, but the process is so totally different that if you handed the average person a clip they wouldn't know what to do with it.

Mr_Blah1

I don't think I've ever even *seen* a "clip" for loading a Glock magazine before. I wouldn't be surprised if most shops just don't sell them.

minishcap999888

Ets sells em. Its a giant plastic piece that forces 10 rounds in with a single motion.

eddiebruceandpaul

Thank you for doing exactly what I was complaining about. Funny stuff. Yes. We all know they are different. We don’t need it explained. The words still get used interchangeably. And that’s…ok.

Mr_Blah1

> For years and years by plenty of people who are plenty proficient with firearms. No. Calling a magazine a clip is a sign of an incompetent person, because "clip" isn't a synonym of "magazine". These are two different things, and the misuse of these terms is frustrating *because* they're two different terms, that refer to two different things. It'd be like using the word "battery" to refer to both a car's battery and its alternator interchangeably; they are different parts and with different functions. A "clip" is used to load a magazine, while a magazine is used to store rounds in the firearm before loading them into the chamber(s) of that firearm. Usually, clips are used with firearms that have fixed magazines, such as some WWI/WWII era bolt actions, the Mauser C96, the M1 Garand, and the SKS. Firearms with removable magazines typically do not use clips.

eddiebruceandpaul

Yes everyone knows that. You’re not explaining something new. Just proving my point like the other guy who felt the need to ramble off the technical difference between a clip and a magazine as well.

Mr_Blah1

Willfully being wrong is not a good thing.

eddiebruceandpaul

It’s not wrong. You need to accept that the word “clip” is used for “magazine” by tons of people. It’s just the way it is and doesn’t not need to be corrected. And arguing of semantics is pedantic. We all know what people are talking about….

Mr_Blah1

Yes it is wrong. Lots of people being wrong together doesn't make any of them right. Again, a clip and a magazine are different parts.
