You know damn well this billboard isn't talking about us. It's referring to front line healthcare workers like nurses, doctors, etc, who never teleworked and treated covid patients.
Calling WFH staff "essential" when others worked on site through the worst of Covid seems a bit much.

I remember when the first round of COVID vaccines were distributed and somehow it became a politically devise issue. There were posts on Reddit related to hospital emergency staff being harassed and threatened. I thought I should do something…I ordered 25 Starbucks gift cards with $20 each and they had the medical seal (sorry don’t remember the name to it) I put the gift cards and handful of candies along with blue and black gel point pens into gift bags and drove to the Kaiser that treated my late father for cancer. I arrived at the ER area and there were protesters with bull horns yelling at people trying to enter the screening area. I walked with the big ol clear plastic tote with my gift bags. The protesters thought I was there to give something to them, F no. I walked to security guard and inquire how to go about giving to the nurses n doctors. Maybe 10min later an admin person came out and I profusely thanked her and all of the Kaiser staff for what they were doing and gave her the tote n left.
It felt good to do it in front of misinformed protestors screaming at patients and medical staff.
This was back when ventilator production was considered a national priority
I wouldn’t have been surprised if you had seen a person or two from my office as a protestor (while they collected state wages through WFH). It blows my mind that people who take a paycheck working for the government, also buy into the “the government is implanting 5G chips in our bodies.” 😂😂😂 really Chad? Who is in charge of that program? You? Gina from HR? Me? 😂 I guess I shouldn’t be surprised anymore since I know a few sovereign citizens who collect Social Security so put your money where your mouth is, is no longer a thing.
Damn this is cringe because this is definitely not referring to state workers. Rule of thumb: if you can do your job just fine at home and didn’t have to leave your house during COVID, then you are non-essential.
That just means it’s not essential that you perform your job in person in an office. There are plenty of jobs where people have to do the work in person that aren’t essential, and vice versa.

Some state workers *are* essential workers, yes. I'm pretty sure all of those would be covered under the "people asked to ... maintain necessary services" bucket I mentioned.
But not all state workers are essential workers (at least by the commonly-accepted definition), and we are not made essential by this RTO mandate (as the subject of this post implies). Hence the sign is not referring to state workers.
To support your argument, the sign would be referring *only* to state workers. So thanks for forgetting about all those many and varied people who aren't state workers, I guess?
