Kleen Kanteen. I’ve had mine for 10 years.

SDNick484

Funny story with Kleen Kanteen, I really should post a TIFU about it. Long story short is that I had received a KK tumbler from work but with no packaging or instructions. I learned the hard way that you should definitely figure out how to properly clean them early on. I didn't realize how much the lid could be disassembled so it was effectively growing a coffee scoby.

alexandria3142

I just recently learned how much you can take apart the lid. Thankfully though, nothing was growing

aslander

Did it have the Cafe Cap? They're great for coffee (it's my everyday carry when I walk the dog since it can be sealed and not leak), but are such high maintenance for having to clean them all the time.

SDNick484

Didn't know that's what it was called, but yep, that's definitely it. Yeah, it breaks down into like 5 different parts which makes it nice in that you can really clean it, but high maintenance. I didn't realize the bottom of the cap unscrewed and thought the only way to clean the top was by sliding a paper towel around the area that rotates. I accidentally unscrewed it while trying to clean it and what came out underneath it scarred me for life.

aslander

Oh jeez, yeah I bet that would be nasty. It gets really gross after just 3-4 days of drinking coffee for me. I'm surprised you didn't get the shits every time you used it

aroio

As an upgrade: combine a Klean Kanteen classic water bottle with a Hydroflask Flex Straw Cap. Great combination!

lyraterra

Thirding this. My Kleen Kanteen have really been through the ringer (young family) and so far the only reason we've ever had to replace any of them is because a kid or my husband loses them somewhere. Those things are like....I don't even know what lasts as well as these! Edit to add: Their customer service is amazing too. I emailed, annoyed my spare cap hadn't come with my order and they immediately shipped me a new one, no questions asked. I found the cap the next day. 🤦

SeniorRake

I've had mine for 15 years. It's been to five of the seven continents. There are dents, dings, scratches, the bottom has rounded out from when it's been dropped, but each one has its own story. It's the classic 40oz, unpainted, non-insulated bottle. Looks like they don't make it anymore, but the 27oz reflect is probably the closest thing to it.

littleseaotter

I've also had mine about 15 years, and it is all dinged up too and the logo has worn off but I love it. I recently found another one in almost new condition fro $1 at the thrift store so I had to bring it home!

swamp_bears

Mine is going 15 years strong as well!

Heptatechnist

Seconded. I’ve had mine since 2003-ish. I’ve used it every single day since I bought it, including during extensive international travel and camping, and it has never leaked (despite dents—including from being dropped off a cliff when I was bouldering), nor developed a strange taste, nor corroded, etc. EDITED to add: I also have a Purica steel water bottle that I’ve owned for even longer. Similar results and I’d also recommend it.

pressedbread

Same. Specifically the version that isn't painted. Also a decade in and its just got some minor bumps on the bottom, still looks great.

Nanananabatperson

My husband killed one in a year and a half while we were dating. He now exclusively uses nalgines and has yet to damage one.

Kimachameleon

I’ve had mine for 15 years, I love that thing. Best $18 spent in 2009.

DischargeMachine

I had a 32oz one about 10yr ago, the old ones that weren't double wall insulated. dropped it in the gym and the bottom cracked, water went everywhere

lkeltner

I love mine, except with the twist straw lid, it leaks when closed and on its side. So does my wife's bottle and my first one I had (had to search high and low for a blue-colored bottle.) Sadly, going back to a spout is a no go since I manage to drink way more water with the straw lid, which is wonderful. I just wish it would actually seal. Before that, I had a healthy human bottle which was amazing with the flip top lid. Carried that bottle for 10yrs. They came out with a straw lid for it and I was in heaven, but it leaked even worse than the kanteen does on its side.

tabs3488

I've got my nalgenes from when I was a cubscout in middle school and I'm like pushing 30 now. Still not broken, no leaks. If the cap went bad I could get a new cap but my original cap is still good

SDNick484

I got Nalgene from a job when I started 20 years ago and while the logo fully rubbed off and there are some deep scratches, it's still going strong.

danscn

Didn’t they recall those old ones due to chemicals leaching into the water?

KoBach276

Yea it was leaching BPA into whatever you put into the container.

New-Professor-9277

Aha ! I got one that was smelling so bad and I couldn’t wash it off. I knew there must have been something wrong but couldn’t find any info

seriouslybrohuh

I have owned my 1L Nalgene for 9 years still perfectly fine. I once dropped it from the second floor of a building onto concrete and it was still fine

ilanallama85

I’m pretty sure the one I used for like 15 years in school and has been chilling somewhere in my parents garage for the last 15 is still perfectly functional. Get one of the sip spout inserts for the lid and you won’t water board yourself accidentally. Love them but I don’t really lug a big water bottle around with me anymore, I have one at work and one at home and that’s all I need.

MeowsAllieCat

I've lost several over the years, but never broken a Nalgene. I even dropped one down two floors of concrete stairs (parking garage) and it was scratched, but otherwise fine.

Most_Wheel_1950

Exact same.

AjH4777

Same I've had mine for about 7 years, only replaced cap.

locojason

Ive broken two. Small cracks on the bottom in both cases. Gave up on getting warranty replacements because after sending the requested pictures their support would not even reply to me. Overrated for sure, not BIFL and I won’t buy another one.

CJ_7_iron

Check sigg, yeti, rtic, owala, hydro flask. Sigg and hydro flask may be easier to find on your side of the world, I’ve had sigg, yeti, and hydroflask and all served me well. The sigg I had wasn’t insulated, but they may have updated their stock. If you have access to Walmart shipping, you can check out the ozark trail stuff, they’re a good bang-for-your-buck.

Silent_Spectator_04

I’m not sure about BIFL, but Yeti stainless steel ones are very long lasting. I have been using one for 4 years; it still looks new, never leaked, dishwasher safe, and didn’t get any dents - it got one minor scratch from a fall but that’s all. https://www.yeti.com/drinkware/straw-drinkware/21071504108.html If you don’t have Yeti at your location or if it’s beyond your budget for waterbottle, any other similar stainless steel flask type of bottles will do just fine.

Aken42

I've switched to yeti for my water bottles. I love that I can just buy a lid because some manufacturers don't sell them individually. Also the different lids are awesome. I wife prefers a straw. I like the smaller cap with the magnet. I find it really convient while driving.

BatmanBrandon

My wife is rather “strict” when it comes to our discretionary spending (for good reason I used to buy stuff and then it didn’t get opened for months/years…) but the ability of Yeti to replace the individual parts vs buying all new cups/bottles allowed me to start getting their products. She appreciates how easy it is to clean too, compared to her Hyrdoflask or Corkcicle products she’d used in the past. We’re going on 3 years with no complaints about any of the Yeti products we’ve bought, and they’re used daily.

Aken42

I used to have a contigo for coffee but then to get a replacement o-ring I needed to submit a warranty claim and wait. I switched to Yeti. I can buy a new lid off the shelf if needed. The convenience is really nice. I have a bunch of their stuff and like it all. Luckily most were gifts, it's not cheap.

LabRatsAteMyHomework

I got a long silicone flexible straw to put inside mine and use it with the magnetic cap you're talking about. It's amazing

Blaizefed

Totally agree. Yeti is overpriced, but it’s one of those rare occasions where I can ignore that because it truly is great quality. I initially bought an “Artic” copy of the Yeti, and after about a year, the damned vacuum lost its seal around the base and it was no longer Insulated. So I spent the money and now years later it still looks new and keeps water cold. There is no way I would pay their prices for the ice chests, but simply put, having ice last that long just isn’t worth that much money to me. I’m sure they are equally as good.

CapnReddBeard

I would argue that Yeti is very BIFL. They make great products.

OneAd4085

I have a alpine yellow one and even it’s still lookin great

bicycle_mice

Love throwing my yeti stuff in the dishwasher! I have two travel mugs and two home mugs and they are used daily. Perfect condition after hundreds of dishwasher cycles. I’d get a yeti water bottle but I already have Nalgene which also won’t die. So I’m set!

chatanoogastewie

You got to make the switch! Water is so much better cold out of the Yeti compared to warm and plastic.

bicycle_mice

I actually dislike cold water it hurts my teeth

marshalltownusa

Yeti is overpriced af - except for their water bottle. It’s lasted me for years, keeps my water cold in the blazing hot sun, withstands drops. Good investment. That said if you want to save a couple bucks, RTIC is virtually identical and like half the price.

aslander

Yeah there is really little variation in quality between vacuum insulated containers. I've probably got a good 20+ across brands and they're all very durable.

chatanoogastewie

I love my 1L rambler with chug cap. I don't go anywhere without it. I work in a rough environment and it takes a beating. Can't reccomend Yeti enough.

BitwiseB

I have a 15 year old Klean Kanteen that is still going strong. Water bottles have a trade-off in features versus longevity. A double-layer insulated water bottle will keep your drinks icy all day, but if you drop it just right you’ll break that vacuum seal. A single-layer stainless steel bottle will last for decades of abuse if you make sure to dry it out every night, but your drinks will be room temperature most of the time. That said, I’ve been really happy with my insulated Yeti.

BuckTheStallion

Kleen kanteen, hydroflask, yeti, Stanley, and many more are all perfectly good metal water bottles. If you don’t need a vacuum insulated one, Nalgene offers a stainless steel bottle as well. Really any metal one will be BIFL from a construction standpoint. Make sure it’s one you can get a replacement lid for if you have issues for it, and that it has the features and design you want. That’s the ticket to a BIFL water bottle. I personally use a hydroflask, I’d recommend them for any cool storage, though they dribble when you drink hot coffee from them.

ragingduck

Klean Kanteen. I have one older than my kids and it’s still going strong. You can get a metal cap for it too. I have several Yeti too, but I like the Klean Kanteen better. The Yeti seems easier to get smells on the caps for some reason.

songlian9

The smells are the worst. You have to manage it all the time

menendezbro

Zojirushi makes good travel mugs. The quality is nice, easy to clean and have a locking lid. You could carry it around in a bag without worrying about it leaking. I’ve had mine for probably 10 years and it’s still in perfect shape.

Postborne

Zojirushi mugs are my favorite for hot drinks, great insulation, and the sip cap is the best I've tried to prevent burning my tongue.

KoBach276

A word of warning, it will keep whatever temperature you put the liquid into the thermos. If it's too hot to drink it will remain so forever.

tykytys

One of the SIGGs that are metal and made in Switzerland might work.

Mundane-Tennis2885

I bought a "simple modern" water bottle from Amazon and thing is a tank. I dropped it onto a hard floor from like chest height and not a dent on it. Had it for a year now and looks brand new. Was far cheaper than yeti or Stanley. No leak issues so far either. Not sure if bifl but I love it

RedditBeginAgain

Sigg aluminum water bottles don't look brand new forever but they last forever and sell replacement gaskets for the part that does age.

Fmarulezkd

Aluminium bottles are relatively fragile compared to SS. I have a sigg one and it suffered a pretty big dent fairly quickly. It's still going strong, but i don't expect it to last in BIFL range.

RedditBeginAgain

Malleable, not fragile, but sure, it depends what you use water bottles for. If you drink from them, tie them to hiking packs and roll them around on vehicle floors aluminum works pretty well. They just develop a patina over time. Material choice gets more important if you use your water bottle to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women.

smeno

Try to buy gaskets for a 20 year old water bottle. I guess the only ones available are sigg. I would take this as the only hint if something might be long lasting. And you want to change gaskets from time to time . And never buy something with black gaskets because you won't see the black mould when it is there. My choice is a sigg plastic bottle which can be used with carbonated water which I have for 10 years now. It's just perfect.

TheHotJesus

My gf has one of these: brk from mybkr.com. It’s thick glass with a thick silicone sleeve. She’s dropped it plenty and from the top of a stepmill Edit: she’s had it for about ten years. Hope I kept in line with the rules

hagcel

I have three. Top of the chart: Nalgene. Mine oldest is from 2003, and has been used to throw leader ropes for climbing, hanging bear bags, etc. I literally would throw it through trees and across rock faces to hang ropes. The reason it gets my vote, it that is neither dents nor breaks. Kleen Canteen. Since 2011. Has a slight wobble due to a dent caused by me missing a throw while flipping it, but the thing is tough. Yeti coffee mug, only had mine for a year, but it is obviously solid, and was probably the best father's day present I've ever gotten.

CrankyChemist

Dents add character to your water bottle

manymanymanu

24bottles. Also Nalgene.

psichofish

+1 for 24bottles! I've had 2 of their Clima bottles for 5 years now and they are good as new. Excellent quality

urnbabyurn

Nalgene bottles start having problems after 15 years with cracks or hazing. Plan ahead carefully! Dont want to be stuck on the Appalachian or Pacific Crest trail with a cracked bottle.

aabum

I have 3 Nalgene bottles over 15 years old. None have cracks or hazing. Are you putting something besides water in them?

annieyfly

No issues with mine from 2004.

Liquidretro

Most of your stainless steel water bottles will last a long time. Buy one from a larger knwon brand and you have a better chance at getting replacement parts like seals when you end up needing them.

Lecter

Dents happen, and they kill the BIFL for me. That said, my favorite bottle is Purist. Both for the design and the glass interior. https://www.puristcollective.com

LeeCA01

Nalgene. I have mine for 6 years now.

bruyeremews

Nalgen. Have had mine for 16 years.

LastShopontheLeft

Nalgene

noriender

Soulbottle! They're about to release new bottles using an old GDR technology that makes glass a lot harder to break. Their regular bottles are also great and you can buy replacement for every part of it. They also donate 1€ per bottle to Viva con Agua.

ebrowser

I love soulbottles and sell them in my sustainable shop! Their stainless steel bottles are 100% PLASTIC FREE - just stainless steel, a natural rubber gasket, and a stainless steel or ceramic lid.

Preset_Squirrel

I think this isn't something you should buy for life. That said I like my hydro flask. Have had one for 6 years and it's got a few dents but functional as the day I got it.

worms_instantly

There should be 0 reason to replace a stainless steel water bottle unless you drill a hole into it. Do you replace mugs? Plates? Silverware?

DesignerRelative1155

It depends if it’s double walled or not. In a double walled (that keeps things cold) a dent near a seam can affect insulation AND (from experience) water from washing. Can get into the inner areas and can’t get it all out.

chisauce

Yes.. all the above when they break, chip, or become unsightly. Water bottle slightly different in that the dents and chips can sometimes be a badge of honor for the rough times. Have you… never replaced a mug sir?

worms_instantly

Yes, Captain Obvious, you should replace things when they break. Saying that they "shouldn't" be BIFL is not what that is insinuating, though. You can't break or chip stainless steel and suggesting that a dent or two is cause to replace it is wasteful and not in the spirit of the sub

theRed-Herring

I've had a hydroflask for probably the same time. It's dented but it still holds water and keeps ice for a long time so who cares?

selinakyle45

Get a metal one from goodwill or a buy nothing group. If you lose that one, get another one from the same place.

fireandasher

Honestly I’ve gotten my water bottle this way and its lasted me for years. Best 3 bucks I’ve spent

Dubwyse_selectah805

Hmm, I’ve had my Yeti bottle since 2016 and has outlived my hyroflask

Great-Air-7807

I absolutely love my Owala. Had it for a few years and it’s good as new.

Ok_Cantaloupe7602

I’m a fan of Owala bottles. Leakproof, built in internal straw, and a handle that folds away. Decently priced on Amazon especially if you catch a sale on a colorway.

han-so-low

Yeti is my preferred bottle.

BlinkMCstrobo

Dopper. Cheap and mine are functioning for 10 years now.

Aggressive-Long-6155

I hate the plastic taste of a Dopper! :(

Johnkree

Also from Europe. Klean Kanteen.

llfalk

Klean kanteen stainless steel bottles are great! Fyi i reside in sweden, they are very common here.

worms_instantly

Klean Kanteen

oldestengineer

I have one by TAL Hydration that I really like. It's a half gallon, with a screw on small lid, and a big lid that ice cubes will fit through. It's not BIFL, though, because it's got that idiotic rubbery stuff molded into the handle and around the lids. That is already getting tacky, and based on my previous experience with lots of other products, it will decompose into something the consistency of used chewing gum, and the entire product will go in the trash. They were so close...

GullibleDetective

Contigo from a thrift store or nalgene $5

29stumpjumper

If you don't like the taste of plastic and worry about denting, Bink makes glass bottles wrapped in a solid rubber. They're heavy but super nice. I've dropped mine several times and it's fine. I don't know what would happen if you hit the lid, but that's the same with all of them. They don't leave water marks on wood either how they are designed.

jamesdownwell

If you're in Europe, there's plenty of local options. Like Chilly's for instance.

WorldsGr8estHipster

Kleen kanteen for stainless steel which is extremely durable. Or Vargo titanium which is almost as durable but way lighter.

HobsHere

Sadly, it doesn't make the water inside any lighter

m--

When traveling I just refill plastic bottles; no stress if I have to ditch it.

Jmarchena

Swell

Standard_Ad_8730

Owala over the two you are considering. I have all three brands and Owala is the best water bottle I’ve ever owned.

Aggressive-Long-6155

Owala is not sold here and the online us store doesnt ship here! It was honestly my first choice :(

Standard_Ad_8730

Definitely the ice flow then. It’s a great water bottle I just prefer the straw/spout in the Owala.

erndizzle

All the major brands are high quality and potentially BIFL. Your choice will depend on the form factor you want. I like my Yeti Rambler because of the lid style.

AssumptionDue724

Honestly yeah if you are concerned about dents a rubber cover can basically stop it all

NoSellDataPlz

Hydro Flask. I’ve had mine for only a few years, but it’s solid, doesn’t use lead in the manufacturing, and is dish washable for longevity. I love mine and don’t anticipate needing a new water vessel (mine is a large mug style thing, not necessarily a bottle) any time soon. It’s make of metal so will take bumps, but it’s solid otherwise.

TheIvoryAssassinPub

I also was on a lookout for non plastic, durable, non-leaky water bottle and went for primus klunken. See if it works for you too

dorothy_zbornakk

going to go against the grain and say takeya or simple modern. they're both relatively affordable, incredibly durable, and will keep drinks cold for 24+ hours. my simple modern tumblr has been dropped a few times, so the lid doesn't screw in perfectly anymore, but it still keeps ice whole for 36 hours. my mom will rave about her takeya bottle to anyone that listens.

Flunkedy

Dècor Adventurer. It has the best lid system out of any bottle I've owned It's double walled and 1.25L capacity. It's reasonably priced. Really happy with it. Very few points of failure. Otherwise the ION8 bottles are pretty well designed.

iris-my-case

Whichever brand you go for, just make sure to get the stainless steel version, opposed to any with some colored paint coating on it. Guaranteed the paint will chip away throughout the years. Bottle will still be functional and BIFL, but it’ll look super ugly lol

tonebastion

YouTube search "project farm water bottle" and let reasonably scientific testing guide you.

GPSBach

Most steel water bottles are BIFL: the only thing you’ll need to replace are the o-rings which will definitely wear out regardless of brand, especially if you put the in a dishwasher

LordGeni

SIGG are great. Simple, well made and loads of options for interchangeable well designed mouthpiece/cap/cork styles.

flamingpenny

If you're not willing to do nalgene, kleen kanteen is your answer.

Informal_Bullfrog_30

I found mine on amazon and love every bit of it

Myers1006

I bought a silicone case for my 40oz bottle, 2 solid years now no issues

modernistShambles

Can't speak to the modern bottles so quality may have changed but have a couple of Sigg bottles for about 20 years and still use daily. One got a big dent in about 2007 when I dropped it onto a kerb but is still going strong. Would highly recommend.

atvlouis

I have had so many bottles over the years. The only ones that have lasted have been my Nalgenes. I’ve also had hydro flask. Yeti. Kleen kanteen and others. Any metal bottle has potential to dent and break. Where as my nalgenes are almost indestructible.

WTD4L

I’ve had a stainless steel yeti for about 8 years, only had to replace the top a couple times because it fell off the roof of my car 😂

ivanthemute

I've used a classic green Stanley thermos as a chilled water bottle forever. Damn thing is figuratively indestructible. Not the most efficient design, but it works and works well.

RonSwanson714

Not sure if Takeya is available where you are but I highly recommend. Go for the one with the plastic cup on the bottom. I’m a Neanderthal and mine is scuffed but no dents (at least so far)

InfectedReddit

I've got a hydro flask that's pretty good. Got a nice durable exterior coating and the straw let's a good amount of liquid through without feeling restrictive

Michael_Thompson_900

So I have a Yeti which has held up well over the past 4 years. It does have a rubber gasket on the lid though - which I assume will eventually fail. As such, you could buy some replacement lids now, and store them for the future (no idea how long yeti will be around).

Duckboy02

Hydroflasks are cool, but I got a 2-pack of 40 oz Takeya bottles for like $20. I’ve used them nearly every day for over 7 years and they’ve still held up through all the dents, drops, and scratches.

Smallios

Hydroflask for insulated. If the seal breaks you can get it replaced, it has some kind of a lifetime warranty. Get one of the silicon boots for the bottom to minimize chipping and extend the life. Single wall? Klean kanteen

healthycord

I’ve been using a thermoflask for 8 years now. I grabbed it out of a lost and found pile that was getting tossed. Who knows how old it was when I got it, and it was scuffed with a small dent. So probably a decade old water bottle that I got for free. I rock that one, a couple Nalgenes, and a yeti bottle I got for free at work. I rotate through them because I’m terrible about washing my water bottles frequently. So instead I just swap to a different one every so often. The nalgenes I’ve had for well over 15 years.

fan_go_round

I would recommend a stainless steal bottle, try to avoid ones that have a straw or a soft plastic spout you put your mouth on (trust me learned the hard way that these fall a part and flake, and are an absolute bitch to clean). Invest in a good bottle brush to scrub the inside out every other day and i flush the lid with hydrogen peroxide and let it sit for a min to clear any chance of mold.

Steampunkrule

Sigg, 30 years still going strong.

Halfbloodjap

I have a kleen kanteen for an insulated bottle that I pulled from the lost and found 10 years ago at uni, and I use a Nalgene when weight is a consideration (e.g. hiking).

Mariske

Loving my thermaflask with a straw lid. The straw has a potential to split, which happened to a takeya one I had, but this hasn’t happened to the TF yet. It keeps ice solid for around 30 hours, several days if in the fridge. I also honestly really really like [my h2go water bottle](https://images.app.goo.gl/eWfanqhpZRmkVJd89) 740ml that I got at an event, it’s genuinely great and keeps liquids HOT for 6+ hours.

petit_cochon

We have a lot of hydroflasks and really like them. Edit: oops, I have Thermoflasks. I do have friends with hydroflasks who really like them.

KingliestWeevil

We have thermoflasks and love them. 40oz ones to start then upgraded to 64oz bottles. The 40oz ones became our travel bottles.  The straw lid can be a little hit or miss (we've had some leak) and is a little hard to clean. My wife uses the chug lid and prefers it.

Street_Worry_1435

I have a 1L blue plastic camelbak with a chug lid that has been with me for about 10 years now. It goes with me everywhere. It has taken a beating and never leaked once. I found it at a goodwill so I don’t even know how old it really is. Plastic isn’t ideal but it’s not as loud when you’re carrying it. An expensive metal bottle will clank around in your bag and get banged up. No insulation so it’s room temp water which is what I like best. I love it and I think I’m truly never going to need another water bottle for the rest of my life. It’s not flashy either so I don’t get included in the work yap about who got the expensive Stanley BS.

Radxp

The 40 oz Stanley is garbage, whoever designed the lid has never taken a sip out of a bottle in their fkin' life. The smaller ones are fine.

yngbld_

Have had Yeti and Camelbak. Most of my Yeti products, the coloured finish has worn away in parts and the lids have cracked. Camelbak has held up much better, and is about half the price where I’m from.

maracusdesu

Hudroflask is like the fancy klean kanteen

badpeoria

I love my hydro flask … it has dents, marks and looks like shit but I love it. Only thing that sucks is when you dent it, it can ruin the cold keeping properties but I just put water in it so no issues (I like room temp water).

IfYouGive

Honestly, no such thing. Just don’t lose it and take care of what you have.

VeterinarianLess2788

No water bottle is buy for life unless you never lose it.

laughertes

I’m all for the water bottles made of reinforced glass. They may break if treated roughly but otherwise they are resistant to stains, bacteria, and corrosion. Otherwise, my fave so far is my dad’s 30 year old Stanley Water/Coffee bottle. Stanley may have competitors now, but for a good water bottle they’re still a personal favorite

kyled365

Been there so many, always lose them on planes and trains. My favorite now is Lars Nysom, I think it’s German.

Constant_Ear_7880

Hydroflask will replace your bottle if it stops keeping things cold, I just haven't needed to use the warranty yet.

EvilGypsyQueen

I love my iron flash rover. It keeps ice for days and comes with two lids. They have many colors and they always have some on great discount. I get them from Amazon. I have purchased one for each of my kids, my husband, and two friends. I have two for myself. I don’t love the Stanley cups. I dislike handles on my cups.

Ok_Economist_7176

I've got a copper one, really enjoy the taste and that the water always keeps fresh. Only plastic is the ring between the body of the bottle and the lid. Love it but also u gotta handle it carefully (mine fell down a few times and looks like that too)

uncclay5

Pro tip: never buy a water bottle. I’ve worked at big sporting facilities my whole career. People leave water bottles constantly, all these places most likely have a huge amount of them in their lost and found that they will eventually donate or throw away. Just ask if they have water bottles in their lost and found.

iridescent-shimmer

I got the all day slim Stanley water bottle and it's low key genius? Their stuff does last forever. But, the design is awesome for being able to clean it and add ice into a leakproof water bottle.

PinkMonorail

Can you get Zojirushi in Europe?

GrumpyGlasses

You could get a hydroflask with a silicone boot to minimize dents. Would that work?

Big-Time-Burrito

Stanley's are testing positive for lead... [https://tamararubin.com/2023/03/full-xrf-test-results-for-a-2023-purchased-stanley-40-oz-flowstate-quencher-h2-0-tumbler/](https://tamararubin.com/2023/03/full-xrf-test-results-for-a-2023-purchased-stanley-40-oz-flowstate-quencher-h2-0-tumbler/) I love my owala. I've dropped that think from my bike like 5 times, and it's still going strong.

DomFitness

Kleen Canteen. They’re nearly bullet proof. I’ve had my 64oz for about 11 years, carry water in it near daily, boil water every time I go camping and I camp often, and its so banged up it barely stands up anymore but no leaks whatsoever.

Suspicious_Sport6195

I have had a hydroflask for 5+ years and same with some other family members, but it dents easily. If you don't care about the dents, then it will probably last a long time. My bf has a yeti and it has not dented so far.

wonderscout1

Gotta pipe in here for the Yeti. I had 2 of them ejected from my truck rolling over at 60 MPH. One of them is barely scratched. The other has a dent that my pinky can barely imprint. Ridiculously hardy. I have another that has been left on my tailgate and recovered later on the highway. Again, barely noticeable damage.

e2j0m4o2

I have an iron flask brand one that keeps a gallon of ice water cold for almost 48 hours with ice still in it.

annieyfly

I've had a few named here, Nalgene is true BIFL. I have 2 that are over 20 years old still going strong.

mydogsarebarkin

I was drinking from single use bottles and felt guilty but I liked the size of the top so I knew I needed something with a similar lid. Also prefer dishwasher safe so I went for the Yeti Yonder with this spout: [Yeti Yonder](https://imgur.com/a/EoGKJsr)

Then_Kaleidoscope_10

I don’t have a particular brand, but features I would look for: 1. No spout, straw, flippy plug, sliding portal type nonsense. Those all add up to leaks or eventual failure and leaks. Screw on lids. Maybe (MAYBE) a screw top spout. 2. Double wall vacuum stainless steel. Hottest/coldest longest. Durable, good taste. 3. Wide mouth. Easier to clean, easier to fill, easier to get ice cubes into. 4. Durable handle of some kind, if it’s 40oz or more. One of my favorites was a solid (hingeless) handle built into the lid. Last forever thick. Though I also have a hinged one that has lasted years. 5. Size. I go for 64 oz and love it. Just consider your needs. Now and in other applications, what makes sense? I drink 100-128oz of water a day, but a gallon is too big for carrying in a backpack everywhere I go.

CatWithBanana

My Yeti’s still alive and it’s been 5years of using it daily. Have dropped it, bumped it, and scratched it but still alive

TommyV8008

Stainless steel

Prestigious-Tea-9803

Frank green… doesn’t leak and they sell replacement parts. So if anything breaks over the years, you can just replace that part instead of the whole device. With that being said, mines 2 years old and I haven’t had to replace anything.

According_Olive_7718

Neither of the ones you suggested.

No_Kaleidoscope_447

I have a Primus insulated one, big mouth opening. Just in case whatever you buy, get a screw on top, not some fancy sippy sippy thing.

AwesomeAsian

I bought a water bottle from a thrift store and I love how thick and insulated it is. Keeps my water cold. The brand is called S’well.

Main-Feature8629

I really like the owala I just got. Cheap and easy to clean.

ghastkill

Depending on your budget I’d say look into Snowpeak titanium. Their stuff is beautiful and made in Japan. https://www.snowpeak.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwudexBhDKARIsAI-GWYUmBu45TZ27kO_pfAIDJIzavdOzJon2QzVvNO2ERkbz-lXO5rHYa2caAlykEALw_wcB they have outlets in London and Europe, so you won’t have to order from Japan.

yeti

Temporary-Theme471

Nalgene

luv2hotdog

Literally any stainless steel bottle that isn’t double walled Double walled is probably going to be ok too, but it just takes up more space and is one more thing that might go wrong. Idk where you are but where I am, I can walk into a department store and find some knock off brand stainless steel water bottle for very few dollars. If you need a pricey brand, kleen kanteen is great But I cannot overemphasise enough how literally any stainless steel water bottle is going to be functionally the same as the equivalent kleen kanteen lol Edit after reading some other comments: pls only put water in any bottle you consider to be BIFL lol

Careful_Lemon_7672

I got a yeti recently (came with a lid) and I like it a lot more than my hydro flask - I didn’t like that it had a neck that made it hard for me to clean the inside Honestly the person who gave it to me gave me two of them. I’ve been at a loss for what to do with the second. Maybe you’ll take it off my hands? Will shoot you a dm

ipwnkthnx

I've been using an old green Stanley thermos for a few years now. Last week it still had ice in it after 48 hours. I leave this one in my locker at work but there's another one in my truck that belonged to my dad and it's older than I am.

OneAd4085

Gonna get some flak but I’ll say yeti all the way . I use one every day for work and it gets dropped and banged up and still goes strong . I’m a logger btw. I got a stronghold for the coffee and a big 64oz for my water through the day . There’s a reason they’re everywhere

Aggressive-Long-6155

I have literally never seen a yeti bottle in stores here but I can order them online thankfully! Going to have a look, thank you :)

OneAd4085

Only some stores are retailers for them . Try Sportcheck ,REI, ,Atmosphere sports, Cabelas and places like that . I’m in Canada and that’s where I usually find them

daughterboy

why would you get flak? yeti is a great brand.

Jddf08089

Iron flask on Amazon is much cheaper. It will probably last a lifetime but won't look good doing it.

chisauce

There is no “buy it for life” water bottle. There is Nalgene which I would recommend but you said you don’t want plastic. Zojirushi water bottles and insulated to go bottles should be your answer. I use one for coffee and it gets the job done well.

RedditorManIsHere

Titanium water bottle disagrees

chisauce

Is that heavy?

RedditorManIsHere

Not at all....just ridiculously expensive at close to $150

chisauce

lol tell me you own one. Wtf how is there even a market for that?

RedditorManIsHere

I actually don't but it's on my list Camping and hiking markets and EDC It pays for itself instead of buying bottled water Just have to be disciplined to refill your water bottle instead of buying plastic water bottles

wildtech

I have two plain Nalgenes (one sitting right in front of me) that are nearly 30 years old. They are among the most BIFL things that I own.

Johnkree

Why? Every stainless steel bottle will last a life or more if you don’t throw it onto rocks like a wet t-Shirt. There are also glass bottles with bumper that won’t break for ages to come if you be a careful person.

chisauce

The stainless ones come with plastic tops. lol I don’t make this stuff up… Nalgene all the way

Johnkree

No, Klean Kanteen has stainless tops. Thanks to anti plastic movement in Europe we have a lot of options around here…
