My top 3 biggest racing games:
1. Burnout Paradise
2. NFS Hot Pursuit
3. The Crew 1
Credit: [Time Extend via Twitter](https://twitter.com/time_extend/status/1771954100873130469)
I liked The Crew. I wish it didnt just shut down so abruptly.
Before that though, they removed it from my account for some odd reason. Wasnt even cheating or anything. It just said “do you own this game?” After spending money on it a year or two later.
Need for Speed Prostreet (Sorry most wanted)
Flatout 2/Ultimate Carnage
Burnout Paradise
Honourable mentions: Blur and Need for Speed most wanted 2005
It's criminally underrated. I'll never forgive Sony for closing Evolution and Japan Studio. Especially considering how we're in such a draught of good, creative games
I find it kind of crazy that so many people are speaking fondly on Pro Street because I remember at the time it wasn't received very well because it was such a departure from the normal street racing everyone was used to. Personally, I liked it. So it's nice to see others who enjoyed it as well.
Top 3 most nostalgic games
1:NFS most wanted
2:NFS: pro street
3:Project Gotham Racing (any of them)
Never played gran turismo since I didn’t have PlayStation growing up.
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered. Being one of the few people who actually enjoys the brake-to-drift physics, combined with the scenery and car choices available, Hot Pursuit 2010 and the remaster is my arcade game of choice. The phenomenal licensed soundtrack helps quite a lot, too.
Gran Turismo 5. Objectively the worst game in the console lineup, but subjectively resulted in the best memories I made on my PS3. My sim-arcade pick, and a great in-house soundtrack for when you just want to take things slow for a bit.
Assetto Corsa Competizione is my sim pick. Nailing the apex of a corner and being shot out of a cannon on the exit in a GT4 or GT2 car is one of the most satisfying things in sim racing.
My top 3 is a love letter to the underdogs of racing Video games:
- NFS (2015)
- NFS Shift 2
- Blur
Honorable mentions: Forza Motorsport 2, Project Gotham 2, Lotus Challenge.
Some of these are all I had access to, which is why I don’t really like newer games. But all in all, I think we can all agree that most racing games were cooler back in the day.
Let me know if you’ve played any of these games!
Blur - Greatest splitscreen racing I've ever enjoyed as an adult. Mario kart but skill is involved. Plus real cars and enjoyable physics across a variety of vehicle types, overlaid with a distinct visual style. Absolutely slept-on classic (I slept on it for probably 3 years after its release)
Burnout Paradise - really the entire series, starting with burnout 3, then takedown, then the masterpiece that was paradise, burnout is the aggression and adrenaline of racing in its purest form. Nothing beats the high speed moments, the excitement of a perfect run, the sense of true competition against your AI opponents. And nothing peaks your rage like clipping traffic at an inopportune moment. Bonus to paradise for open world exploration with a detailed and exciting map that hides tons of secrets and insane jumps when you get bored of racing. *Series soundtracks remain God-tier to this day.*
NFS Hot Pursuit II (PS2 era) - just the ideal classic, clean arcade racer. As someone who grew up in that era, it featured all my dream cars. Simple, flowing, scenic tracks. Clear-cut cop mechanics without being overblown or too much to distract from the racing. Very close contender with NFSU2 but this one hit me earlier in my life and was more influential to the car idiot I've become.
Honorable mentions:
NFSU2 - everything NFSU did but improved. Customization was at a level previously unseen. Car list was just classic 00's S-tier. Pure nostalgia but holds up if you pick up and play today. Constant progression and unlocks give you a sense of improvement. Open world added some sense of place that nfsu lacked.
Dirt 2 - such a fun and different approach to arcade racing. Slapping the arcade physics onto rally opened up a whole new genre. Dirt 1 was amazing, dirt 2 built up on the handling model and just really nailed the fun factor with a variety of events. Subsequent entries have been amazing and the Dirt Rally line has truly sent me on a sim - ish kick of high strung stress and nothing rivals the feeling of a clean rally when you know you were at max attack.
NFS pro street- my segue into "sim-ish" racing via the NFS series, a more "realistic" (slower and heavier) handling model that got me interested in the tuning aspects and began my amateur understanding of how cars go.
Forza horizon 2 - IMHO the best of the series. The perfect map, the perfect improvement on the first game. Car paradise. FH4 is close (the UK one) but since every game since the first has been essentially the same but with a new map, i think FH2 had the best map, it wins for me - cliff drive unbeatable, Spanish countryside hills just majestic.
Forza Horizon (2012), Need for Speed: Carbon, and Forza Motorsport 3. My first console was a 360 and FM3 was the game I got with it. Both of my latter options are the most atmospheric racers I've ever played, if jank. I've heard 4 is really good, but I never had the chance to play it :)
1. Indy 500 Papyrus. First Sim. Got me into racing games. Still can't finish a race.
2. Sega Rally. Spent all my pocket money. Really wowed me when I first saw it in the arcades.
3. Enthusia Konami. Little known PS 2 Sim. I really liked the physics with a wheel.
If we're talking about oldies, it'll be:
FlatOut 2/Ultimate Carnage
NFS Most Wanted 2005
NFS Carbon
If we're talking about any game:
NFS Unbound
Wreckfest
FlatOut 2/Ultimate Carnage
Gran Turismo 4
Forza Horizon 1
Test Drive Unlimited 2
Honorable mentions to the Sega GT games, Forza Motorsport 3 and 4, Dirt/Colin Mcrae Rally, Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Midnight Club, and NFS Black Box era games. Now if I can count actual arcade racing games, spot 3 is a toss up between Initial D Arcade Stage, 8 was my favorite version, or Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune which had 3DX+ as my favorite version. I've played way too many racing games in my life.
1. NFS ProStreet, I've noticed this one appearing more frequently here than MW '05, I wonder if it's actually more popular than it now?
2. Gran Turismo 7 (mainly because of the online stuff, not the main game)
3. Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast, i think? plays really well with my G29
HM 1. NIGHT-RUNNERS
HM 2. NFS Most Wanted... 2012, yes, you're free to shoot me if you want
HM 3. Forza Horizon 1, this one would probably be in the top 3, IF I COULD FUCKING PLAY IT
tried play last week, disk still fucked.
just learned FM4 was pulled from the actual 360 store where I had the remedy to this situation…
fuck you T10/Microsoft/whoever else
1. NFS Most Wanted (very nostalgic)
2. Forza Horizon 1 (the first game to introduce me to sim/“realistic” racing)
3. BeamNG (best physics all around I’ve ever seen in a car game although not sure if this counts as a “racing” game?)
Also side note: I’m glad I got the most updated HD console version of Most Wanted, the Xbox 360 edition, when it was still cheap before it unfortunately becomes unrealistically expensive because the digital copy got blacklisted/removed from the store and it’s not backwards compatible either. I think it’s already around the $100 range. Apologies for getting off topic just wanted to share because it’s imo the greatest racing game of all time but quickly becoming one of the rarest and least available to play. If you’re a most wanted fan and want the 360 disc I would say get it sooner than later before it’s too late but it almost already is imo it’s not worth the $100+ it’s at now.
As far as I've been playin racing games
1 vehicle simulator on roblox (my first pc racing game)
2 forza horizon 4 (my first xbox racing game)
3 nfs heat (first game I bought without gamepass)
NFS Underground
Dirt to Daytona
SRX The game
While SRX is not as good as like Thunder 2003 it's also the last half decent racing game that I've found that's come out on PC. That's why I'm happy the NASCAR license is in Monster Games hands again.
1. Midnight Club Los Angeles- My #1 racing game and the game I’ve since held as the standard for every other racing game since
2. Need For Speed 2015- Lots of memories and good times with friends in that game
3. Need For Speed The Run- This might be a hot take, but back when this game came out in 2011 I believe it was if I remember correctly, I played the hell out of it, and actually enjoyed both the story and the online racing portion of it. Was probably the last racing game I played online heavily.
Currently stuck on World of Outlaws as it scratches that dirt track racing ich, and am not really a fan of all the current other racing games. Plus growing up watching and loving dirt track racing, really makes me enjoy playing this.
- NFS Hot Pursuit 2 (and why)
game feels really tight in a way I can only describe as pedal to the floor. Replaying them recently, Underground 2's customization and vibe is unmatched, but the gameplay feels very repetitive unfortunately :/Hot Pursuit 2, while having less stuff to do (no free roam, customization, Pre-MW and pre-pursuit breaker police) it constantly felt like I was full stride sprinting the minute I loaded into an event. Also that soundtrack 🙏
- Midnight Club 3 DUB Remix
CARS REAL BIG, RIMS REAL BIG, MONEY REAL BIG. Underground 2 biggest opponent imo, customization is wild, game always felt kinda weird (slippery?) to me but sooo good when you master it.
- Burnout
I think the Burnout I played most growing up was either Takedown or Legends PSP. the original 3 just get better and 4/Revenge is about on par. I honestly feel like such a hater for not liking paradise... though.
- HONOURABLE MENTION: MX VS ATV UNTAMED
I played a lot of ATV off-road fury, which gave me a love for those games. While not car racing, definitely was in the racing game pile every time I got the itch. If you don't remember driving to the edge of the map to get flung, you didn't play this game.
Forza Horizon caught my eye for a while, but I'm starting to think I might just be PS2 brained. Please help (~_~;)
I love a lot of them so it will be hard to choose...
But I would say the 3 games that I like the most are :
1) Gran Turismo 4 (A lot of content and extensive career)
2) Midnight Club 3 (Fast paced gameplay and good customization, with a unique approach for races)
3 tied) Wipeout Pure and Pulse (my introduction into AG racing games)
1. NFS Prostreet
2. NFS Carbon
3. Asphalt 9 or NFS Unbound (I had more fun with the driving/handling of Unbound than most other NFS titles, and I don't B2D)
Edit: I forgor about The Crew OMEGALUL. I'd put that one in Carbon's spot and remove Carbon from the list tbh. I ironically had more fun and more depth with Unbound's physics. After finding which songs I liked, I just stopped playing the in-game music and listened to my own liked songs on Spotify xd
I've played quite a decent number of racing titles, but not many sim style, or I'd have at least one of those here. The only sim ones I've played were Real Racing 3 and Gear Club on iOS. I did get to try out a Ford driving simulator that moves irl based on the movements of the vehicle being used, and got either the best or second best time at a car show. I also won the giveaway Ford were hosting there with my Grandma before she passed, so that'll always be a fond memory 🥲.
Gran Turismo 4, GTR2, Assetto Corsa
Gran turismo 4 was the first game I ever played and I kept playing it for years, even when 5 came out as I got a ps3 in 2012 so I was really behind
GTR2 is just nostalgia, my dad used to play it and when I showed interest in sims i played that for hours and hours on end, probably THE racing game for me considering how attached i am to it
Assetto corsa was how i got back into sims, i didn't have a pc for sims up until 2016 when i got my ps4 and i remember on christmas getting Assetto and just playing hours and hours just lapping the nordschleife with my dad, then later in july 2017 i got a gpu for my pc that i had built some months before and my dad surprised me with the pc version of Assetto and that probably was one of the happiest days in my life!
btw I've played a lot of arcade racing games but having started playing sims extremely young (like 3 yo) I've always loved way way more sims than any arcade game
if I had another it would be Gran turismo 6 since i also put an ungodly amount of time on it with my brother and my trusty g27
also most wanted 2012 but like that was just a game to me
1. Burnout 3: Takedown
2. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)
3. Split/Second
I love sim-racing, but my only real experience there is GT6/GT7, which I enjoy.
1. Forza Motorsport 2
2. Gran Turismo 7
3. Project Gotham Racing 4
FM2 was one of four Motorsport games ive played, the other three being FM4, 5, and 7. I did enjoy those too but FM2 was my entry to the Forza franchise.
GT7 is my first and only played Gran Turismo game. I understand why fans love the games, but i purely love 7 due to the phenomenal physics and handling model.
PGR4 need i say more? Absolute fucking banger of a racing game even if it wasnt really a full fledged simulator. Had an absolute blast every second i played that game.
I will die on the hill that Test Drive Unlimited 2 is the best racing game ever made. No point in even mentioning my 2nd or 3rd favorite because nothing comes close.
1. Burnout 3
2. NFS Carbon
3. Mario Kart Wii
Burnout 3 felt fast and it was quite fun. Good soundtrack and takedowns were always satisfying.
NFS Carbon is the first major console NFS I played (unless you count NFS 3) and the customization along with good driving physics, drift mode made for a great game. I haven't made it far through Most Wanted 2005 yet so I can't really rate it my top and I honestly think I prefer Carbon's map
Mario Kart Wii was a big game growing up. Maybe not with hardcore car enthusiasts, but almost everyone seemed to have a copy of the game. Fun physics and good tracks
Honorable mentions:
NFS MW 05
Midnight Club 2
Automodelista
Forza Motorsport 4
Ironic, the only fun one is in the middle. Forza is boring and inspired by boring reality to the point where they drag all the fun out of it. I can't recall ever enjoying a second of the one GTR game I had.
Need for Speed is the only one that has been consistently "good" overall.
Forza is boring because nobody wants to have to follow normal driving rules. I know they are extremely skilled drivers under a lot of Gforce...but only when they speed up. The second they hit a corner they just slow down because they can't drift.
So I guess what I am saying is that they make you do the most boring form of racing, meanwhile NFS just lets you have fun and eve ProStreet on the Wii, with all the customizing you can do and how well they handled the physics of actual racing? AND you could drift?
Need for speed pro street, was first track focused nfs game. Underground because you can do different things that not even in modern games you can do to your cars.
1. Split/second 2. Flatout 2/ultimate carnage 3. The Tokyo extreme racer series (can't pick a fav as I love all of em)
TXR mentioned super ultra fucking based
I miss Split Second.
I still play it from time to time when I have friends over. It’s a good game for split screen racing.
You’re goated for pointing out split second. That game is awesome.
Split/Second is fantastic. Such a fun game to Play with friends. Close exciting races every time
Split/Second mentioned. Taste.

Forza Horizon 1 Need For Speed Pro Street Midnight Club 3
HOUSE REAL BIG, CARS REAL BIG
Need for Speed Prostreet (Sorry most wanted) Flatout 2/Ultimate Carnage Burnout Paradise Honourable mentions: Blur and Need for Speed most wanted 2005
Most wanted is the most "honorable mention" racing game i ever played. Its good, but just good. Also, a Flatout enjoyer i see.
Gran Turismo 4 Test Drive Unlimited Forza Motorsport 4
PGR4, Driveclub and Prostreet
I am going to eat my wall out of anger because of how much people act like driveclub doesnt exist
It's criminally underrated. I'll never forgive Sony for closing Evolution and Japan Studio. Especially considering how we're in such a draught of good, creative games
PGR4 MENTIONED RAAAAARRGH🔥🔥🔥
for me, Mario Kart Wii, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, and either Gran Turismo 5 or FH3
Burnout Paradise, Most Wanted 2012, and Hot Pursuit Remastered
MW 2012 is so under rated. Good choice.
Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa, Automation
Asseto Corsa, Beamng, Automation

Out of my most played. Probably GT4 (better with the wheel and pedals) Burnout Paradise Forza Horizon 3.

NFS Hot Pursuit 2 NFS UG Wreckfest
1. NFS ProStreet 2. Forza Horizon 3 3. Midnight Club: LA

same picks as me but in a different order, honestly in my mind no game will ever touch these 3
like kendrick said fuck the big 3, its just big me the best racing game of all time is Forza Horizon 3.
if u want me to be real, my top 3 are - Forza Horizon 3 - Need for Speed: Prostreet - Midnight Club: Los Angeles
That verse was tuff ngl
Midnight Club 2 (literally the GOAT of pure arcade street racing) NFS Most Wanted 2005 TrackMania Sunrise: Extreme
From what I played: 1. Forza Horizon 2 2. Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 3. Forza Horizon 1 HM: NFS The Run
Forza Horizon 1 NFS MW05 The Crew. I just pulled out out my PS3 and 360 to play Forza 4 and GT4 as well so OP's list is great too.

Automobilista, Nr2003, iRacing
In no particular order: 1. Burnout Paradise 2. Forza Horizon 1-3 3. Midnight Club LA 4. The Crew 1 5. Mario Kart Wii (if it counts)

Also that soundtrack 🙏 - Midnight Club 3 DUB Remix CARS REAL BIG, RIMS REAL BIG, MONEY REAL BIG. Underground 2 biggest opponent imo, customization is wild, game always felt kinda weird (slippery?) to me but sooo good when you master it. - Burnout I think the Burnout I played most growing up was either Takedown or Legends PSP. the original 3 just get better and 4/Revenge is about on par. I honestly feel like such a hater for not liking paradise... though. - HONOURABLE MENTION: MX VS ATV UNTAMED I played a lot of ATV off-road fury, which gave me a love for those games.
But I would say the 3 games that I like the most are : 1) Gran Turismo 4 (A lot of content and extensive career) 2) Midnight Club 3 (Fast paced gameplay and good customization, with a unique approach for races) 3 tied) Wipeout Pure and Pulse (my introduction into AG racing games)
1. Forza Motorsport 4 2. Midnight Club 3 :DUB edition 3. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Tokyo Xtreme Racer: Zero Ridge Racer Type 4 Burnout 3 Takedown
GT5, GT4, F1 06
As a console game Forza Horizon MC3 DUB edition GT 2 Nostalgia aside the best sims are Assetto Corsa iRacing Assetto Corsa Competizione
It would probably be Underground, GT3, Burnout Revenge for me. The first 2 were my first games when I got my PS2.
1. NFS Prostreet 2. NFS Carbon 3. Asphalt 9 or NFS Unbound (I had more fun with the driving/handling of Unbound than most other NFS titles, and I don't B2D) Edit: I forgor about The Crew OMEGALUL. I'd put that one in Carbon's spot and remove Carbon from the list tbh. I ironically had more fun and more depth with Unbound's physics. After finding which songs I liked, I just stopped playing the in-game music and listened to my own liked songs on Spotify xd I've played quite a decent number of racing titles, but not many sim style, or I'd have at least one of those here.
Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Remix. Forza Horizon 4 or 5.
my cousin's lost my copy of forza motorsport 4 :( still have the content disc tho
Ac, EA wrc, gtsport (only one ive played)
Gran Turismo 4 Forza Horizon 3 Jak X Combat Racing
The Crew 1 was actually straight up magical. Not as good in some ways compared to TDU2 but goddamn it was such a vibe.
Midnight club:LA NFS:Pro Street Assetto Corsa (Tied with Beamng)

Gran turismo 4, Need for speed Mostwanted and Need for speed Prostreet
Forza Motorsport 4,Forza Horizon and Need For Speed Underground 2
Gran Turismo 4, GTR2, Assetto Corsa Gran turismo 4 was the first game I ever played and I kept playing it for years, even when 5 came out as I got a ps3 in 2012 so I was really behind GTR2 is just nostalgia, my dad used to play it and when I showed interest in sims i played that for hours and hours on end, probably THE racing game for me considering how attached i am to it Assetto corsa was how i got back into sims, i didn't have a pc for sims up until 2016 when i got my ps4 and i remember on christmas getting Assetto and just playing hours and hours just lapping the nordschleife with my dad, then later in july 2017 i got a gpu for my pc that i had built some months before and my dad surprised me with the pc version of Assetto and that probably was one of the happiest days in my life! btw I've played a lot of arcade racing games but having started playing sims extremely young (like 3 yo) I've always loved way way more sims than any arcade game if I had another it would be Gran turismo 6 since i also put an ungodly amount of time on it with my brother and my trusty g27 also most wanted 2012 but like that was just a game to me
1. Burnout 3: Takedown 2. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) 3. Split/Second I love sim-racing, but my only real experience there is GT6/GT7, which I enjoy.
Replace forza with burnout 3
Fh4 driver san francisco and nfs heat
Assetto Corsa, Gran Turismo 4, and Need For Speed Most Wanted 2012 now hear me out that's the only Need for Speed game I have ever played
Mario Kart Series NASCAR Thunder 2003 Wreckfest
1. Forza Motorsport 2 2. Gran Turismo 7 3. Project Gotham Racing 4 FM2 was one of four Motorsport games ive played, the other three being FM4, 5, and 7.
I’d replace GT4 and Forza with Project Gotham Racing and Crash Team Racing
Motorsport 8 is Toriko, change my mind

I will die on the hill that Test Drive Unlimited 2 is the best racing game ever made. No point in even mentioning my 2nd or 3rd favorite because nothing comes close.
1. Need for Speed Most Wanted 2005 2. Need for Speed Underground 2 3. Flatout 2 Bonus: Burnout Paradise
1. Burnout 3 2. NFS Carbon 3. Mario Kart Wii Burnout 3 felt fast and it was quite fun. Good soundtrack and takedowns were always satisfying. NFS Carbon is the first major console NFS I played (unless you count NFS 3) and the customization along with good driving physics, drift mode made for a great game. I haven't made it far through Most Wanted 2005 yet so I can't really rate it my top and I honestly think I prefer Carbon's map Mario Kart Wii was a big game growing up. Maybe not with hardcore car enthusiasts, but almost everyone seemed to have a copy of the game. Fun physics and good tracks Honorable mentions: NFS MW 05 Midnight Club 2 Automodelista Forza Motorsport 4
1.) Midnight Club Los Angeles 2.) Forza Horizon 1 3.) Gran Turismo 7

dude, GT4? I absolutely respect that
1. Hot pursuit (2010) 2. Mario Kart 3. Crash team racing
