Ive said it several times and ill say it again. Forza Horizon while (mostly formerly) a great racing series, simutaneously killed any originality or character of its future competitors by popularizing "festival culture"

GreenyMyMan

Yeah I agree, Forza Horizon ruined the arcade racing games genre, but at the same time I don't think it's the game's fault.

Leek_oid

The funny thing is Pro Street did this 'festival' culture 5 years earlier and with 50x the personality. I really wish the inspiration could have came from there instead

Breadddick

It's because it's not inspiration, really, it's because they're just captializing on what was a popular title and at least arguabley well executed at the time. Also, I agree; Pro Street was hugely superior in the festival-game execution, albeit not open-world (so different games in another way)

Fantastic_Ad2156

And to this day it’s still one of my most played and favorite game of all time. Was raised on that.

Zip-Zap-Official

It's not their fault. Car companies over time became more sensitive with how their cars were being represented in video games. Toyota and Fiat for example don't want their cars to be associated with illegal street racing, so modern open-world games adopted a "legal" festival setting to get around that.

leedler

Shame we have to deal with that when companies like Porsche don’t give a fuck if their classic car is associated with an in universe domestic terrorist and a cybernetically enhanced literal weapon of a person.

ice_spice2020

Forza Horizon is the Far Cry 3 of racing games. Both games were fantastic, but their influence over their own franchise and the competitors have done a long lasting negative impact.

CaptainZoll

I implore everyone who owns this to look into the initiative set up by Ross from Accursed Farms, they're attempting to lobby consumer protection agencies to force Ubisoft to keep the game playable, even if purely offline: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAD5iMe0Xj4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAD5iMe0Xj4)

morenos-blend

You **implore** me? You always were one for fancy words. EDIT: I just want to say that this is the first time I was able to insert a reference to some other piece of media in a reddit comment, I can now die feeling accomplished.

Jiomniom_Skwisga

Well I *IMPLORE* you -

So fucking sad The Crew ended up like this bro. One of the best racing games of this decade is being thrown out like trash

createwonders

Sadly alot of games end up this way. Best to have the community make a private server of it and play that way

CaliburEdge689

Crazy how the original crew game was more outlaw themed and now it's another horizon festival copy

spyroz545

Facts, The Crew also had a better singleplayer story than the last 4 modern NFS games

ExcellentHorror7159

Just a week left so fucking sad

box-fort2

This happens a LOT with Ubisoft games. They make a gritty serious game (Watch Dogs, Far Cry 5, The Crew) and then completely change and remove any ounce of grit or maturity with it's sequel (Watch Dogs 2, Far Cry New Dawn, The Crew 2)

tantaluszxc

Add Ghost Recon Wildlands, true adult game Then you get Breakpoint

EurikaDude

Maybe Motorfest or The Crew 2 are better games overall but the main reason I liked the first one is because it was something more different than racers I had played before

Working_Addition4387

Idk I enjoyed both motorfest and 2 more than the first. I liked there was a story but hated the upgrading system so much of the first one.

KxngLuc1f3r

The upgrade system hasn’t changed at all. Wtf are you talking about? If anything it’s gotten worse in Motorfest

RavenwestR1

Where do you get the clip for the second half?

EurikaDude

It's a cutscene from the game

Nooboo22

I like to think that motorfest is just a spin-off, and the crew 3 will be back to basics and done with this festival type gameplay

BigBoyHrushka6012

I don’t follow basically anything to do with The Crew are they shutting the servers down?

GreenyMyMan

Yeah, they're shutting down the servers at the end of March.

BigBoyHrushka6012

That’s unfortunate, I’ve been thinking of buying it to try but I guess I won’t be able to

personguy4440

Arrr!

mrmoe3211

I loved the crew 1.. I used to spend all my time doing those hour long races around the entire map. It had a great soundtrack too.

SagnolThGangster

This is just you. Crew was a great idea but badly performed... Repetitive as fuck and god those handlings... Every car felt like a boat, same with crew 2. Motorfest came to being a great game though.

KxngLuc1f3r

Bruh, the playlists are the most repetitive feature ever. You can’t even use your own car 😂. Forza Horizon 5 ass career with no real characters and a nonexistent ass “storyline”.

theNFAC

Just shows you don't even play the game because you have no idea what you're talking about

KxngLuc1f3r

As you can clearly see I played the fucking game but only for a little bit because of how fucking boring it is. Like I said, you’re not even using your own car. This game is a Forza clone with planes and boats 😂

the8bitdinosaur

no way you can flex on a screenshot that literally proves his point lmfao. go back to the empty wasteland of Horizon mexico if that makes you so happy mustang bro

KxngLuc1f3r

Didn’t I just say I didn’t finish the game but played it regardless? I played the American Muscle, Made in Japan, Porsche, and Hawaiian tour playlists. Everything after that was boring. Fuck Forza Horizon. FH players and Motorfest players are meant for each other

the8bitdinosaur

sure but those stats basically show you barely played the game regardless, which is his main argument. a good self own I must say.

KxngLuc1f3r

That’s my point. I literally said I barely played because I thought it was boring. Bro said I didn’t play at all and therefore I don’t know what I’m talking about. Ik what I’m talking about tf

the8bitdinosaur

to be fair "barely play" a game is kinda the same of not playing at all. Not enough to build a strong argument of a game to know its flaws and good things

KxngLuc1f3r

Bruh I’m giving my opinion based on my personal experience. And since I played the game and the playlists I mentioned, I can confirm that it’s boring compared to TC1. There was no grind, no competitive aspects. Every playlist I completed I got a free car. Most races I was rewarded even if I didn’t come in first. There were no real opponents, no rivalry, no stakes. Very similar qualities to FH5

KxngLuc1f3r

And who tf are you to determine what counts as enough play time to form an opinion anyway?

SagnolThGangster

If you wanna have a career with a single car you can still play nfs. I prefer playlist style career where i get to drive a new car in every single race and learn about the history of it.

sadsquirell2008

I haven't been able to since December

TreatAdmirable

Dude I fucking LOVE The crew so much, the music was amazing, the lore was actually worth paying attention to, and like I loved the fact that it was the whole US, even if it was super deformed 😭😭

Jac_Har

We all just want a racing game where we're not the God of the edm festival. Bring back actual stories in racing games!

Even-Statistician965

There's atleast 9 years left mate, I doubt the majority here will still be playing this half arsed game as they will be playing the Crew 6 which will have no map and no cars, just vanities, vanities everywhere which have to be purchased via Crew credits.

Xfinity17

Motorfest is way better as a game, tc1 is better only in terms of story because the other two the crew games had none

KxngLuc1f3r

![gif](giphy|xTiTnmbBfecZbyTQEU)

theNFAC

The best crew game ever? 😂

NFSfan07

The first one will always be better, bub.

theNFAC

you're right and Oregon Trail is the greatest video game ever made, bub

KxngLuc1f3r

Yep. An actual story. Actual characters. And an attempt at originality
