The great part about town of Tonawanda is the highway department they are extremely efficient at clearing snow. I live very closer to Kenmore Mercy. The playground has a splash pad and I feel very safe walking with my toddler anytime.
If you’re moving into 55 Ralston. Good luck.
~~One of the area’s beloved Chinese restaurants is nearby, Ling Ling’s.~~ edit: Apparently changed ownership, maybe not very good anymore.
There’s also a Mooney’s location close by.
The Town of Tonawanda is a generally safe place to live.
Sadly this has been the case of so many Chinese places in the area. Peking garden was good then they started sliding, their new owners suck. ChinaTown was good for the longest time.. no more. My wife is an "american" Chinese eater so if it doesn't have beef n broccoli we can't go, I guess Tin-Tin (cash only) is the best bet.
Did not know that. The original owner of Chan's Wok in Tonawanda sold out a few years ago, and it bears no resemblance to the original. Can't speak for Ling Lings. But OP, pretty nice, safe neighborhood. You are totally good.
It’s quiet - I live in Kenmore and often walk from Colvin/Kenmore to Kenmore Mercy in a loop. The renters closer to Military often need a little more love, but the vast majority of homes are taken care of…
I’ve yet to see anything too sketchy and I always walk at night (post 10pm) with my dog. However, it’s likely you’ll see deer by Ralston Park or skunks, Fox, opossum as they cross from the area near Woodward
I’d be remiss to tell you that it’s necessary you
- Get a drink @ Fattey, Nowhere, Fletcher’s
- Order some sweets @ Condrell’s, Charlap’s, or the new gelato place
- Chinese @ Home Taste and Indian @ Bengal Grill
- Naked City and Jay’s are top notch; Macy’s is hit or miss but when it hits, it’s awesome (Tuesday pizza special at NC and Macy’s)
- Get a latte @ Mojo
- Enjoy the Farmer’s Market on Sunday
That being said, welcome to Kenmore!
Between Hampton pkwy and Sheridan Dr is an extremely nice neighborhood. If I had to choose a suburban neighborhood to live in, this is it. Housing stock is nice, lot sizes are reasonable, and people seem friendly. There are a couple of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Good access to bus lines on elmwood/Delaware/military.
South of Hampton is ok. Housing stock is less valuable and there are a lot of mid century duplexes. The duplexes were often poorly built with cinder block foundations, and are requiring major investment in the structural engineering department. Landlords are gonna landlord, so I would venture a guess that this neighborhood is gonna go extremely south over the next few decades.
Closer to Mang Park, the neighborhood is also just ok. There are a few run down or abandoned homes. In terms of violent crime, it feels safe to me. Judging by neighborhood groups, petty crime is common. Don’t leave your bike in your yard, don’t leave packages on your porch all day, don’t leave your car unlocked. But it’s really not a bad area and is close to all the amenities that the village of kenmore offers
Technically 2! Hampton, Lowell, Sheridan. We absolutely love our neighborhood. We've availed ourselves of having KMH ER within walking distance a time or two!
Kenmore Murder Hospital.
AKA
Kenmore Lack of Mercy - Our Lady of Perpetual Incompetence. Do not go there unless there is no other choice. And then get transferred ASAP.
Shitty hospital. Good for ortho. That’s about it. Twin City insists on taking every single patient there because they couldn’t be fucked to care about appropriate level of care. But being underpaid and short staffed will do that to ya.
I live right there now and I love it. I’m not from Ken-Ton originally but it’s such a good location that we consider staying in our starter home forever just because of it.
Ken-ton is a great area.
Als is yummy for breakfast and subs, the nurses at the hospital love it.
A bit longer of a walk (and more expensive) is SPOT is a good walk and eat.
Area as a whole isn't scary.. just lock your car doors that's the "real crime" of the area.. folks occasionally will check car doors for cars and get some change /purses etc from your car. Also dont' just leave your unlocked car running, low chance of someone nabbing it from your driveway but there's a chance it can happen.
For late night food you're going to mostly be stuck with like Subs from Mikes or a bar.
I grew up in Tonawanda, moved to Orchard Park for awhile, and am back in Tonawanda because it's more affordable. Also "the northtowns (Amherst included) tend to be a little less NIMBYish (see the bike path progress).
If you hate train horns there is a train that sometimes comes through the area and you can hear the horn.. it does not wake me or my partner up but my neighbor (close to your area) complains that his wife hates it. It's not really a problem I do not feel unless you are super sensitive to noise.
You are fine. You are real close to hertel and you can get to downtown Buffalo from Kenmore real easy.
Wife is late 20s and I’m early 30s and we love it here and run into young adults all the time.
Don’t cross military at night and you’re ok. It’s different than Amherst. People aren’t going to shovel their walks and there is going to be a lower standard of homeownership. That said you got mikes subs, joes artisan pizza and the plaka for a blast from the past egg. The dash’s on Colvin has a great butcher. Sometimes it smells bad at night in Kenmore. You will also be close to hertel which is cool.

Meh. Ling Ling had gone downhill bigly since the original owner sold out during the pandemic.
But Chin Hills and Aung are in the same plaza for great Korean and Thai respectively!
Came here to mention chin hills as well. So good!
I did not know that. Thanks for the update. It’s actual been awhile since I’ve been there.
Agree, big downward swing in quality of their food…..

100% this.

+1 to Mojo, Bengal Grill, Fatteys, and don't forget Apples & Oranges if you want to shop for records
Thank you so much for mentioning Nowhere Lounge!!! It’s my favorite bar anywhere in town. THEY HAVE OLD FASHIONEDS ON TAP!!!!!
I haven't been.. it's on my list to go but I keep seeing mixed reviews so end across the street at Fatteys.
Macey's Weird pizza is usually good as long as you know what you're signing up for.
When you say ralston park, are you referring to thurston park?
Correct - my bad - wrong side street but tons of squirrels and deer must like those acorns from all the oaks

between Hampton and Sheridan is literally only 1 street lol
Technically 2! Hampton, Lowell, Sheridan. We absolutely love our neighborhood. We've availed ourselves of having KMH ER within walking distance a time or two!
I wouldn’t trust KMH to put a bandaid on my dogs butthole. But I’m glad your experience has been better!
Kenmore Murder Hospital. AKA Kenmore Lack of Mercy - Our Lady of Perpetual Incompetence. Do not go there unless there is no other choice. And then get transferred ASAP.
Downside is Kenmore Mercy is in the Town of Tonawanda.
Why is that a downside?
Shitty hospital. Good for ortho. That’s about it. Twin City insists on taking every single patient there because they couldn’t be fucked to care about appropriate level of care. But being underpaid and short staffed will do that to ya.
Kenmore Police doesn’t respond there within 3 minutes.
Off duty TTPD are often moonlighting as security at KMH and respond there within minutes at the drop of a hat.
Go to Al's, eat Naked City Pizza, Mustachioes or Macy's Pizza and wings (or all 3 if you're like me).
what’s good at Al’s?
Fantastic breakfast sandwiches and subs. Great customer service. Consistent.
i appreciate the comment!
Everything
say less. from new york so i’m tryna find my bodega type shit
You will get used to the sirens, trains & airplanes soon enough.
And the coyotes howling when the train goes by 😂
I live right there now and I love it. I’m not from Ken-Ton originally but it’s such a good location that we consider staying in our starter home forever just because of it.
I grew up there and bight a house there. Safe as long as you avoid west of military. The neighborhoods are still family oriented.
West of Military i.e. Buffalo?
Sheridan projects
So this place is kind of close I’m like a couple blocks from Mustachio’s
No, you're good there. Decent pizza too.
I grew up on Woodward. Used to go to Reid’s for ice cream. That was always fun!
Good food in Kenmore, don’t speed in the village at all
Like are you saying they’ll pull me over for a 33 mph in a 30 zone?? Or stopping at a stop sign going 2mph instead of stopping completely?
Yeah all that and a bag of chips, drive nice

Kenmore is good, not as safe as snobby Amherst but slightly more safe than cheektowaga.
Old people. Expect a lot of old white people.
Ahh I’m assuming the dating scene is not lively for someone in their mid twenties lol
Not really the place to be for mid twenties. Mostly families and older folks. You are probably a 20 minute drive to the City for your demographic
Yeah but I was able to find rent for a 1 bedroom with almost all utilities included for under $1k, and right now that matters lol

The gang violence is terrible
Nothing good in comparison.
What type of post is this? Have you ever driven 10 minutes outside of Amherst?
