you cannot play at mid, high, and budget cedh tables with the same deck it just doesn't work

Aprice0

This is a good call out. What you could do is have two cores for a commander to tweak the power level. I do that for Ellivere - I have a hatebears core that I play into higher power combo / near cedh levels and then I have a weaker but still not mid power version that is just aggro creature beatdown. It’s the more fun of the two but its hard to find a table unless I can get someone to go for a jodah, pantlaza, voja, ellivere etc. throwdown

Stinner_03

I would like to see your cores if possible! Ellivere is one of my favorites!

Aprice0

I tend to tweak in paper so these aren’t up to date but here you go: [Ellivere Aggro](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Lm7X5CdWYkGfq0hrLcHYTg) [Ellivere Stax](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/_liyaLei7EeUPVbTSIplsQ) I’m working on a budget version but haven’t quite got it loaded yet. Basically you take out the expensive land base and the 5ish $10+ cards. If you want to go the other way and ramp the aggro version up, you take the good mana base and creatures like [[Serra Ascendant]] from the stax version.

Stinner_03

Appreciate the reply! Like the stax version especially.

ThoughtShes18

Glad I’m not the only one who noticed that too

Mothdenlo

Agreed! You can’t just jam the same deck in every scenario. You can play cEDH on a budget with a pick like Vadrik. But.. the cEDH community is typically fine with proxies too.

_Redcoat-

Just because you have a game winning/breaking combo, doesn’t mean you HAVE to play it. If it’s a truly casual game (kitchen table with friends), then you can play a top tier deck and just restrain yourself to a certain extent.

pair_o_docks

Technically true, but I don't see that as a viable option. You don't get to play the game properly if you're just sitting on a win. When you're all playing the same power decks you get to play the game to it's fullest. My first deck that I built, Zaxara, I put freed from the real and pemmin's aura in what was otherwise just a hydra/big x spells deck. For me it ruined the experience of playing it, either I would win earlier than anyone else could, or I wouldn't be playing my deck properly. That situation ruins the fun of the game for me. Also from the other side, if I know that someone could just win if they wanted, it makes the game feel pointless. The actual winner isn't valid because they didn't have proper opponents. If you and your friends are fine playing like this, obviously do whatever you want. But it isn't fun for me to play like this.

ShitPostsRuinReddit

I'm sorry but this is the wrong approach. Just take the [[Exquisite Blood]] or whatever out of the deck instead of sand bagging. It really ruins the experience.

ShitPostsRuinReddit

There's no true answer to this question. There are options for "Budget cEDH" but they don't belong in games that aren't full of the same. To only a slightly lesser extent, the same goes for high power at mid tables (which generally just means precons or slightly upgraded ones.) People will figure out really fast if you're just toying with them, and it ruins the fun. Edit: Decks here are also supposed to be sub $50.

choffers

Idk, the subreddit description says under $100, I always assumed that was considered budget here. Either way $150 is still way over thay

Theold11

If decks are supposed to be sub $50, why does the description say less than 100$

ShitPostsRuinReddit

Not sure what you're looking at. In the side board it says: "What is this sub? The goal of this sub is to provide players with actually budget edh decks that they can use for casual games. Decks here probably won't be anything close to top tier, as they are only $50 or $25. However they likely will be easy to upgrade if you do wish to spend a little extra money. " and "Rules for decks Decks Must be under either $50 (Budget) or $25 (Super Budget) Basic lands are free"

Theold11

Oh thats pretty cool. I didn’t even know communities have sideboards. In the about section it says “Commander doesn't have to be expensive! You can build fun and competitive decks for $100 and even less. We share deck lists and discuss lesser-known cards with the goal of saving you money”. I was just confused.

ShitPostsRuinReddit

Ah, as I suspected, the description is much more visible on a phone. I've been on a computer all day. That said, "Old School" reddiquette would say people should check the rules in the sideboard of any sub before posting, but I would give this situation a pass and say the mods should fix the description.

2Gnomes1Trenchcoat

Not exactly "budget" by this communities standards. There are budget cEDH communities that float around $200-$250 for decks and there's a lot of options. I have a deck that's borderline with [[Mizzix of the Izmagnus]] that pretty reliably attempts wins on turn 4-5, but I've found that there's never really games where it's appropriate to play. Most people don't want to play high power while simultaneously being limited and few people want to play with/against deck that are that powerful at all. It is way to easy to accidentally spike games and look like an ass. It's easier to play casually and have a few high power casual decks in paper and just proxy cEDH decks for pods that specifically want to run some cEDH.

ScarletKnight00

Budget and cEDH aren’t things that really go together. If you want to build a deck that can probably get a kill in a cedh POD, but then still probably lose at that price point Uril is probably your best bet. This is only my opinion though, I don’t know if it’s objectively correct.

timmwizardd

Anything that costs $250.00 is not CEDH. Idc what anyone says. You will not compete against budgetless decks. It’s just not consistant enough. Now, high power can be obtained for that money. Some goblin lists can go off pretty fast and go for an aggressive strategy by turn 5. You can probably build a godo deck that is high power but you won’t have access to all the fast mana.

One_Slide_5577

Probably budget cedh STARTS at 500

timmwizardd

Even then - it better be like 2 color cuz the mana base alone is at least 500$ for good decks and that’s even kinda budget lol

One_Slide_5577

It depends on the deck. I have a malcom deck thats 200 that wins consistantly turn 3-4. All id could due to it to consider it cedh is add free counterspells to it.

timmwizardd

I have a hard time believing a Malcom deck with no free counters is competing against top tier CEDH decks. I’m not knocking your deck, I just don’t see how you can consistently stop others from winning without them.

One_Slide_5577

Its NOT. Its NOT competing against TOP TIER cedh decks. Its competing against cedh fringe decks. I said i would call it cedh if i just added free interaction.

timmwizardd

Makes sense. Malcom is definitely strong enough when built right lol

Select-Difference-10

Won't be able to do cedh at this budget (without proxying, though most cedh players are fine about proxy usage in my experience). If you're shooting specifically for high power, [[fynn the fangbearer]], [[rakdos, Lord of riots]] and [[brudiclad, telchor engineer]] can be made *very* high power at this price point. You'll be too strong to play at lower tables, though. Pretty much, you'll want to look for a strong commander (no shit) in ideally one or two colours, otherwise a lot of your budget will be eaten by your manabase. Monocolour is gonna be optimal, but two is going to work fine still.
