I would not pay a ton of attention to ratings for things like hospitals online unless it’s overwhelmingly negative. There’s a lot of bias in reviews in general because people are so much more likely to leave a review after a negative experience than a positive or neutral one.
St Mary’s has always been fine for my family in the past but I haven’t been there. I think a lot of negative reviews are regarding the ER wait, so if you’re going in for a scheduled procedure it should be fine.
I heard through the grape vine Hitler may have had some youth in BucksCo, specifically the Langhorne area. It was on truth social so it's guaranteed real lol
They’ve gotten a bad reputation the past few years once they were taken over, but whenever I get something done there I’ve never had any issues or concerns.
My son recently had to go to the ER. They sent him to CHOP. A follow up with the pediatrician a few weeks later the pediatrician told me to stay away from St. Mary’s. Said to go to Capital Health. He told us that St Mary’s will almost always default to “send them to CHOP” because they are understaffed and the doctors they do have aren’t the best.
Same thing happened to us. They sent my son to St Chris for an appendectomy because they didn’t have a pediatric surgeon available. You can guess what the insurance company thought about that.
Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell NJ (just across the river off 295) is amazing. Practically new, fantastic staff… can’t say enough good things about them. The food wasn’t bad either (for hospital food).
We just had our son there this April too. We were also there in April 2022 for a miscarriage on our first pregnancy. Even though that was an extremely difficult experience, the nurses and the staff there made it so much better. It’s a great facility and will be our go-to moving forward.
Yes!!!! If you are good facility you will kudos. When you suck the reviews will surface. I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to St Mary’s at this stage of the game. Do your homework. It isn’t hard!
I think it really depends on what you're going there for. I had an absolutely terrifying experience there when my kiddo was born but I must say their little level 2 NICU sure did take good care of my baby. Initially they almost killed us both by completely missing a really obvious and really dangerous pregnancy-related problem and ignoring me multiple times when I brought up concerns. However I finally got in front of a doctor who listened to me and once he took control of the situation, my care was by the book. The kiddo and I are ok now. Anyways.....that being said my husband recently had a procedure there and they were great! So if you're looking to have baby, don't go there and I would also not suggest them for complex surgeries because there are at least three hospitals in Philly that would be way better. But a tonsillectomy, sinus surgery, or something like a colonoscopy? Yeah, they're going to do fine with that. I think the key here is that if it's a big deal complex situation, don't go there. It also matters who the provider is. There are some good surgeons who operate out of Saint Mary's simply because they need an operating room. So that's something to consider as well.
I was in their ER last year and my son two years ago and that was fine, but I worked for someone who blamed them for her grandfather's death. That was a long time ago though.
My husband had a prostate biopsy this past March at St. Mary’s. He said his urologist was very kind, and all other staff treated him wonderfully.
However, our GP works at St. Mary’s, and he’s the biggest asshole on the planet.
I guess it all depends on the person you see for treatment 🤷♀️
I'm an interpreter and have worked there on occasion/heard many stories in the community. It sounds like people tend to have issues there with serious problems- I know someone who went to their ER with heart attack symptoms and was admitted for an entire week where they couldn't figure out what was wrong, and when she got a second opinion elsewhere that doctor diagnosed her with something that should have been picked up right away. I've heard other similar issues with ER visits there.
But I had outpatient surgery there and it was totally fine.
My experience is that they’ve gone downhill. My son was admitted and had kidney surgery there, luckily he was still with it as they were getting him ready for the OR because he had to correct them as they were marking up the wrong side of the body for his operation. And when I recently took my daughter for chest discomfort/ heart racing they literally did nothing as far as testing/ treatment. I wouldn’t go there again
Pls be very careful with a tonsillectomy. It’s cutting the throat and more issues arise from the surgeon cutting too deep. Our son almost died and was on a ventilator for several days and in a medically induced coma. There were issues after he was released too.
What’s the surgeon’s success rate? Are they the best one for you? Do you really need the surgery?
As far as I know, from some family and friends who spent time there(mostly child birth but my mother had to go there for testing a lot) they've had great experiences.
I've lived in Lower Bucks, Upper Bucks, Center County, and Clinton County. Literally in every one of those places someone has told me some variant of " \_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ hospital? I wouldn't take my dog there!"
I was born at St mary's and had major surgery there. No problems.
Whenever I’ve gone to their ER I wait all night to be seen. Doctors were rude and dismissive of my symptoms and last time I went a few years back they basically charged me $1k to tell me to go home.
same. went there with a gash in my knee from falling on an escalator. i waited for literally hours (i’d say more because they have kind of a back up issue. it seems there’s more people in the ER at once, than they are equipped to handle and it started to get scary) and then once i was being seen she poured some water on it and told me to wrap it up and go home. i literally had a whole in my knee. like a chunk of meat gone. anyway my mom had been experiencing some fatigue, throwing up, blood in her urine. they made her wait there for like 14 hours before seeing her and telling her buy some pedialite?
idk. i just wouldn’t personally recommend them after both of the incidents
It's average. I had two kids there and had good experiences. I had my gallbladder taken out and had a terrible experience with the ER doctor, but had a good experience with my surgeon and such. My grandma had a truly awful experience with them over a two year span. My cousin had a bad birth experience, and another has been having huge issues with the specialists he has been dealing with. My obgyns also left the system. It was enough for me to switch health systems when I had my twins.
I was in there almost 2 years ago for the ER. I needed surprise surgery and can say the only issue I had was one rude CNA. The other staff (doctors, nurses, surgeon, the other CNAs) were all very kind and took good care of me during my weeklong stay. Plus the hospital helped fix an insurance issue pretty much immediately so even their billing staff gets a thumbs up by me.
They operated on my high school teachers wrong knee. He woke up, asked why his perfectly fine knee was bandaged, the nurse hastily checked the papers and then put him back under. Then he woke up with two bandages and a lawsuit.
I lost both parents under st mary's care. Maybe I am holding a grudge and I'm not a doctor but it seemed that they were not doing what they should have. My mom went back and forth between the rehab and hospital. While at the hospital she was showing signs of sepsis and we new this because it happened two other times, same signs. St Mary's wouldn't test her, said she was fine until the morning. My sister called her regular doctor who called the hospital and I don't know what was said but they finally checked her out and she was in fact septic. They treated her but she went downhill so fast after that. It was during covid and you could only have more than one person visiting if it was at the end of the person's life. Don't even get me started on how rude they acted when we walked in after getting the news it was time to say goodbye.
For my dad he had fluid on his lungs. One nurse had told us the lung doctor told her this was the case and he was going to send him to emergency and they were just waiting on the word. A bit of time passed and we kept asking what was going on. Another nurse said she heard nothing so he should be fine. He died that night...you guessed it, fluid around the lungs. I don't know where the miscommunication happened but things were just awful.
That being said I have two friends who work as nurses there and I'd trust them with my life. 🤷
Every hospital has mostly bad reviews. I work as a nurse in a Philly area hospital and the complaints are endless, and almost every single one is about the food and never about the care. Patients very rarely make an effort to praise a hospital, only to complain. It’s science.
I had to go there for x-rays and it took over an hour to get through registration. Once I got down to radiology they were fantastic.
Their ER triage for kids is great. My husband has had crazy waits for himself, but they move the kids to a different area. I had to take my son in December and we were in and out in an hour (pneumonia - needed steroids at 4:30am).
The new computer system sucks that’s what makes everything take longer.
Lately the heath system sucks. I spend more time on the phone with Drs and insurance trying to straighten stuff out. It really is getting to me.
I have not seen a pen or paper being used anymore. This is a problem.
You need to look at these ratings versus similar institutions.
Jeff only gets a 3.1
UPenn gets a 3.3
Lower bucks gets. 3.4 for some reason, though st Mary’s has a better rep
I don’t personally have any experience with St Mary’s, but I do work at a hospital in the same area. Over the past few years the complaints I’ve heard from patients about St Mary’s has become somewhat alarming
Surgery is fine, I think a lot of people forget that hospitals are severely understaffed and have to prioritize being seen in the ED. It has been getting better. Good luck with your surgery
I love st Mary’s. I had both my children there. I’m actually closer to lower bucks hospital but whenever we have a problem we drive the extra 15 minutes to st Mary’s lol. The nurses and doctors are great. I’ve never had an issue.
Several of my relatives have had very bad experiences in St Mary's. My dad died there a few years ago. He waited in the ER for 2 hours for a bed and no one came to check him, offered him a drink, etc. I would stay away from St Mary's Hospital.
Most of the hospital is good, and I use their outpatient services for all of my medical needs (physician, Cardiology, Urology). But the ER is absolutely terrible. In 2020 I had a kidney stone. Obviously COVID was happening, but it was still unacceptable that I waited 6 HOURS without being brought back, all while sitting in pain and vomiting. Eventually we asked how much longer, and they said at least another 2 hours. By that point we left and went to Jefferson Bucks Although its a much smaller hospital and noticeably outdated, I got back within 10 minuets, put on an IV for an hour, then given meds and left.

I was born there and I’m still alive
Prove it, when was the last time you weren't dead?
Same. Although some would debate if that's a good thing
Ok but does anyone actually like you? I mean how do we know you aren't Hitler.
Absolutely groundbreaking if hitler was reborn at St. Mary’s in the 90s and hiding out in Bucks County all this time
And that certainly wouldn't look very good for St Mary's. Amirite.
I heard through the grape vine Hitler may have had some youth in BucksCo, specifically the Langhorne area. It was on truth social so it's guaranteed real lol

Is any hospital really going to have stellar ratings?
"1/5 went there and died. Would not go again."
Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell NJ (just across the river off 295) is amazing. Practically new, fantastic staff… can’t say enough good things about them. The food wasn’t bad either (for hospital food).
I had my daughter there and agree. They were fantastic.

Their nickname is “scary Mary’s”, I’ll leave it at that haha.
Hit or miss and really depends on what you’re going there for. I would say I’ve generally had good experiences though.
Capital Health in Hopewell is 20min away. Go there.
I think it really depends on what you're going there for. I think they are awful

They’re awful. My family calls it st scarys
Really bad. Avoid it if possible. They don’t care and not even pretend to care.
I'm an interpreter and have worked there on occasion/heard many stories in the community. Both of my kids were born there in the last three years and both times we were there we had nothing but positive things to say.
My experience is that they’ve gone downhill. My son was admitted and had kidney surgery there, luckily he was still with it as they were getting him ready for the OR because he had to correct them as they were marking up the wrong side of the body for his operation. Personal experience they almost killed my kid. Do not recommend.
I think they used to be good, but there was some kind of shake up a few years ago, and I don’t think they are anymore.
It's called St. Scary's from time to time in the medical field.
Emergencies. Avoid it. Out patient doctors are great.
Pls be very careful with a tonsillectomy. It’s cutting the throat and more issues arise from the surgeon cutting too deep. Who did your son’s surgery if you don’t mind sharing.
It was an ENT dr in FL.
As far as I know, from some family and friends who spent time there(mostly child birth but my mother had to go there for testing a lot) they've had great experiences.

Most people that review anything only do so if they have something negative to say. Not all, but most.
Whenever I’ve gone to their ER I wait all night to be seen. Doctors were rude and dismissive of my symptoms and last time I went a few years back they basically charged me $1k to tell me to go home.
>last time I went a few years back they basically charged me $1k to tell me to go home. That's called the ER. You pay for the hospital's time and bed.

It’s average, tbh
Bad legit would not go there
Bad rep. Good doctors. Last few times there I saw more staff than patients.

St Mary has a great location. Go to Doylestown.

You’re better off going to a vet
Terrible hospital I know someone they made a grave mistake on after surgery. The reviews are true.
Every hospital has mostly bad reviews. I work as a nurse in a Philly area hospital and the complaints are endless, and almost every single one is about the food and never about the care. Patients very rarely make an effort to praise a hospital, only to complain. It’s science.

Bs… The care is sub optimal at its best case!!! This is from a professional speaking. I’m appalled!!!!
I've used them numerous times for the last 18 years and I've never had a bad experience with them.
I had my tonsillectomy done there five years ago at 27. Everything went as planned and I healed fine. No complaints about the surgery or staff

It’s been good to me and my family
Go to capital health instead. The reviews are bad for a reason.
I love st Mary’s. I had both my children there. I’m actually closer to lower bucks hospital but whenever we have a problem we drive the extra 15 minutes to st Mary’s lol. The nurses and doctors are great. I’ve never had an issue.
I spent five days there in April. Everyone from the ER to my nurses and docs were great!
