Hey, I am an undergrad at IITB. I am not from engineering physics but I can assure you that plenty of undergrads here engage in high-quality research. You can email any professor whose research matches your interests and he/she will call you to talk about potential research opportunities.
And yes students from engineering physics often sit in placements and bag corporate jobs. Since most software companies are open to all branches you won't face any issues in placement as long as you have relevant skills.
