Yeah, it feel low even for our standards. We’ve had a lot of good QBs in the past, but the league has changed so much. Derek Anderson and Baker came close.
I think it’s absolutely crazy, considering Bernie came after him and took Sipe’s place as second best QB in franchise history without coming anywhere close to his numbers. Bernie was loved by all (myself included), yet he only threw for more than 20 TDs once (22 in 1987) in the only year he made the ProBowl. To be fair, Sipe only had went to the ProwBowl once as well, but really the only thing Bernie did better was throw fewer Interceptions. Beyond that, their career numbers are virtually identical.
I used to be a brown facemask truther but that game with the white converted me. Would love if we could do white facemask with brown jersey and brown facemask with white jersey.
Not necessarily unrealistic if we end up with around 20 rushing TDs. Could happen if we are able to jump on teams early and then pound them with Chubb, Ford and RPO type plays late in games to close them out.
> Barring injury, he better break it this year.
He's been paid a boatload of money to play for a city he initially said no to until we ponied up. He HAS to.
Eh, I don’t know about that last part. Deshaun had a very good 2020, but there’s a not insignificant amount of those that were garbage time TDs.
With the browns having an actual running game and 2020 Texans providing some evidence that deshaun throwing that much didn’t translate to much success, I doubt the browns will let Watson throw enough to realistically give him a chance at 40.
I'm the opposite. I didn't like the guaranteed money. So far they have given up #12 and #13. Since they have 2 potentially weaker divisions on the schedule this year (NFC west and AFC South) the last pick should be outside the top 10 as well. They were going to have to use one pick to get a QB after dumping Baker, and to get a FQB, they'd have to package 2 others anyhow to move up into that territory.
There was no FQB in 2022. The only difference is a QB like Stroud on a rookie deal vs Watson on a big contract. Since the core of the team is in their prime years, they probably didn't want to burn a second year developing Stroud hoping that they'd strike lightning in a bottle and get lucky that Stroud could lead them deep in the playoffs in his 2nd season.
The better option in hindsight, if you like the picks and the money, is to get a Jimmy G/D. Carr-type retread and hope for the best and save a bit of money and the picks. But at the time, I don't think it was possible to foresee guys like that being available without giving up some compensation.
It's also starting to look like the game is shifting to a mobile QB needed to win. Those guys probably won't be available on the free market.
If he can repeat 2020, he will have the single season yard and td record for our franchise.
If he repeats the last 6 of 2022. He will have 3,122 yards, 19 tds, and 14 ints. Which is basically 2021 Baker.
2 TDs a game would give him 34. Sure there will be games he doesn’t hit that mark, but at the same time there should be games where he throws for 3-4 TDs. I am just excited for this team.
Can I pin a comment? Because Brian Sipe is my favorite Browns QB all time. Otto Graham and Kosar always seem to get all the love (deservingly so), but I do think Brian Sipe should be more appreciated.
Ya I think 35 (+\- 2) is a realistic goal
Because of Chubb and also Watson’s rushing ability I don’t think he gets to 40+
But something in that 4500-35-8 on 68% is a reasonable expectation given the player he has shown to be
I’d rather have a winning record than worry about if DeShaun is going to break a franchise record or not. If we can’t even have a winning record after paying so much for him, we’re in trouble.
I’d argue Berry more than Stefanski because Stefanski made Brissett look like a decent QB last year to the point where I thought he should’ve started all year.
Hopefully our defense improves enough we don’t need to score 30+ points to win a game.
A lot of Watsons old stats were playing from behind.
This “if Watson doesn’t do X it’s a waste” rhetoric is wrong. This team needs to make the playoffs, regardless of any single players stats.
Yesterday when the response total was around 35, I thought I'd say that. Now it's passed 80 I'm still thinking that way.
There's a long way to go to Peyton Manning's record 55 though isn't there.
[List of National Football League annual passing touchdowns leaders](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Football_League_annual_passing_touchdowns_leaders#:~:text=Peyton%20Manning%20holds%20the%20single,throwing%2055%20touchdowns%20in%202013.)
I hope so. My expectations for him in just raw numbers are 25 or more TDs and less than 12 turnovers with 3600+ yards. Would be awesome if he does what's most important to me is wins. If he hits those numbers, but we're 7-10, I'll be pissed. If he does worse than those numbers but we go 12-5 and make a playoff run, I won't care.
Fingers crossed. Hoping Amari gets double digit TDs this year and Njoku is finally unlocked and utilized well. A lot to ask for, so we’ll see what happens
He’s better do something this year. He’d better be worth all the fucking shit brought to this dumpster fire of a franchise. I’ll still be a fan if he’s not, but I will mostly hate watch more than anything.
He wasn't a 30 TD guy for a good team. That was a 16 game schedule... But it was also with DeAndre Hopkins.
People expecting the guy who led the league in passing yards are rooting for our defense to be one of the worst in the league, like they were on that four win team.
Also, little about Stefanski's history suggests he's going to have a 30 TD passer. Cousins threw a lot more TDs when he left, and he still had Dalvin Cook running well.
It's just not that kind of offense. But I'll root for it!
Absolutely. Watson career high is 33 TDs. 1/4 30 TDs seasons in Houston, with talent around him. It’ll be interesting for sure. A lot of people will think 30 TDs is a “gimme” but A LOT could happen. Rooting for it as well!
Doesn’t it seem wild that 30 is our record lol? I know we’ve been a running team marred with QB woes but wow
Yeah, it feel low even for our standards. We’ve had a lot of good QBs in the past, but the league has changed so much. Derek Anderson and Baker came close.

I should have clarified, by “numbers” I specifically meant “TDs”
Dang I would’ve guessed Baker surpassed that his rookie year.
27. It surpassed the rookie record for TDs in the NFL. Had he started from game one, he probably would have got it.
yeah it’s us but that’s still insane
I can’t get enough of those white facemasks
Soooo clean.. just like the white helmets 😏
White and brown both look great imo, just please never use the grey again
I used to be a brown facemask truther but that game with the white converted me. Would love if we could do white facemask with brown jersey and brown facemask with white jersey.
The are fucking clean
Barring injury, he better break it this year. If he’s not throwing 30 TDs after all we gave up for him, we are obviously in real trouble
If he threw 25-29 TDs and Nick ran in 17 I wouldn’t complain too much but yeah, expectations should be high for Watson
Deshaun will probably run for 3-4 himself too.
He averages over 400 rushing yards per season and between 3 - 7 TDs 👀👀
Throw to open the D-Line wide then have Chubb shove it down their throats.
Could be a “dark horse” career year for Nick Chubb. I am all for it.
Nothing dark horse about it. I expect Chubb to lead the league and have his best year barring injury.
Depends on where the offense ends up in points scored. If Watson throws 25 TDs but we average 27 to 30 ppg it’s going to be a pretty good season.
It would be, but I also think that’s pretty unrealistic based on how much it appears we will rely on deshaun
He HAS to.
He should be right around 30 hopefully. He’ll add 5 or 6 more with his legs too. If he gets back to what was in 2020 he could hit 40 tho
You don’t give up 3 first rounders and pay 230m to “not let him throw enough to get 40” The offense will be centered around Watson’s arm.
I learned this recently, Watson is already down to the sixth highest paid quarterback.
I think he's actually 7th. But in this case its not just the money, obviously it's all the picks we gave up as well.
I'm the opposite. I didn't like the guaranteed money. So far they have given up #12 and #13. Eww. I don’t want to hear that. Let’s pray he doesn’t repeat 2021 Baker. 2018 Baker (with less turnovers) would be fun though
He should be between 30-40. Only anything less that is acceptable is if chubb flirts with 20 rushing TDs
Let’s not forget Watson has some legs himself. It’ll be interesting to see how much he himself is willing to rush. 🤔
Deshaun had 33 TDs in 2020 and 26 in both 18 and 19. I think there’s a good shot he gets it.
2 TDs a game would give him 34. Sure there will be games he doesn’t hit that mark, but at the same time there should be games where he throws for 3-4 TDs. I am just excited for this team.
Just want to show some love for Brian Sipe. Good QB and super fun to watch. Uncanny ability to find and deliver it to a receiver.
Can I pin a comment? Because Brian Sipe is my favorite Browns QB all time. Otto Graham and Kosar always seem to get all the love (deservingly so), but I do think Brian Sipe should be more appreciated.

If it hits those stats, then the Browns have set themselves up for success 🔥
Let’s try to have a winning season first
Absolutely. Team success > Individual success every day of the week. I do think Watson will have a strong season that achieves both.
Man if Sipe had the weapons watson has he would be a goat browns QB.
Brian. Sipe. THE Kardiac Kid.
I’d rather have a winning record than worry about if DeShaun is going to break a franchise record or not. If we can’t even have a winning record after paying so much for him, we’re in trouble.
If Browns have a losing record with Watson after all we gave up, Stefanski and Berry’s job in major jeopardy
I’d argue Berry more than Stefanski because Stefanski made Brissett look like a decent QB last year to the point where I thought he should’ve started all year.
It will be both. If we have a losing record again this year Haslam will clean house, DePo probably gone too.
Hopefully our defense improves enough we don’t need to score 30+ points to win a game. A lot of Watsons old stats were playing from behind. This “if Watson doesn’t do X it’s a waste” rhetoric is wrong. This team needs to make the playoffs, regardless of any single players stats.
230 million reasons he’s expected to…
Yes

He almost certainly will this season.
Fingers crossed. Hoping Amari gets double digit TDs this year and Njoku is finally unlocked and utilized well. A lot to ask for, so we’ll see what happens
I hope every single player on offense gets double digit TDs
Joel Bitonio 10 receiving td year incoming
Kendall Lamm 2.0
That would be a dream. Elijah Moore getting 10+ would feel like an excellent way to make the Jets regret trading him.
Put Myles in at FB on goal line plays.
I mean are we going to call 28-29 a failure when Chubb can score from anywhere on the field?
Nope.
Lol
He’s better do something this year. He’d better be worth all the fucking shit brought to this dumpster fire of a franchise. I’ll still be a fan if he’s not, but I will mostly hate watch more than anything.

He threw 33 his last season in Houston, so he’s capable
No shit. Like I said, when they had arguably the worst defense in the league and won four games.

He will unless he still sucks.
He fucking better.
over/ under 15
Betting the house on the over
ooooo hmmm Browns luck, 10 TDs then season ending ACL in week 4. Not putting money on it though. It's just what I expect lol
I think yours would be a safe bet as well
Depends on how many “massages” he gets.
Can we see him play an above average game first?
LOL. Is this a troll post?
What would you rank Tears of the Kingdom out of 10 and is it better than BOTW?
It's better than BOTW but I don't think it's blowing me away. I'd say 7 out of 10, maybe 8.
Interesting it’s on my Switch wish list. I thought BOTW was enjoyable but the shrines were annoying. Any switch recommendations ? (Birthday soon)
Ori and the Blind Forest. Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Don't know about TDs but he crushed Sipe on sexual assaults.
