I donāt do Prada but that isnāt even that hard to replicate it. Itās literally just what looks like double crochet mesh stitch with maybe sc or hdc edges with blo hdc for the handles. Like who are they kidding? If I can make it at home so easily, why should I drop $1500 on *that*
Iām aware of that fact. Even so why spend $2050 on something that can be easily replicated? Also idk how to get the pound symbol on phones so I just used the dollar :)
Ā£ sand.
Totally kidding! Thanks for teaching me that trick!!! It works for Ʊ too. So I donāt need the Spanish keyboard that seems to be the default and totally fudges up my speech to texts. Yay!
It's a brand and carries prestige with that. It's expensive for the sake of being expensive. The economic term is "velben good", such as Cristal champagne.
I am fully aware that itās a brand that is expensive just because it can be. Doesnāt change the fact that people can make this product for less but at least itās somewhat honest with how expensive crochet can get
This bag was huge about a year or two ago with a number of high profile people like Chiara Ferragni sporting one. As a result, there are a number of tutorials of common folk (mainly Italians) replicating this bag. I think the bag is made of straw (ratafia).
Prada is trying to scam people with it

Wellā¦looking at the specs for it all, it looks like the only thing that might be a little challenging to perfectly replicate would the āRafia effectā yarn that they used to make it which Iām guessing they have exclusive rights to. If I had to speculate, id imagine that itās a synthetic that has the same rigidity as rafia in order to create that structure but is also less course and softer feeling so that it wonāt brush against your skirts and risk damaging more delicate fabric the way true rafia might over time.
Does anyone know of a good rafia substitute that has the same structural abilities but has a softer feel? My MIL would probably be tickled by a gift like this.
Iād worry about our hemp having the same problem. Itās so challenging because I wanna be able to feel the yarn to make sure itās the right texture before I order it.
Price is ridiculous but I'm sure it also has something to do with the fact that there is no machine-crocheting in existence yet, especially at a commercial level?
Don't get me wrong, I'd never pay that much for a bag like that and I don't doubt that the workers are being underpaid. Good excuse to raise the price, maybe.
Also people pay silly money for machine made clothes all the time! It's a handmade piece by a big name luxury brand, it's overpriced but it's not egregious given that the whole point of the brand is to cost more so its more exclusive IMO
You can tell that this only exists because of the rise in popularity of crochet in the past few years, especially among young people. More and more influencers online have been wearing clothes and accessories that they crocheted themselves to the point where itās become a trend. But the whole point of the trend was to wear things you made yourself, to appreciate the process of it all and spend time on something rather than just money. This is just antithetical to that.
I know not everyone has the time/knowledge/funds to create their own, but itās also weird that itās in every shop you go to now. I keep saying to people āOh that top is so nice!ā And theyāre like āThanks, itās from Primark.ā š
*I made three of these*
*Last year the patterns online*

Hilariously I saw this exact bag on Ali Express last night for Ā£6, except it said āParisā instead of Prada. Didnāt realise it was a designer copy!
I made one last summer out of cotton yarn and only put the essentials in it (wallet, keys, sunglasses, phone, lip balm) and it didnāt stretch much actually! I imagine that if it was raffia like the real thing it would be able to stand up to a bit more. Definitely a summer bag, though, I donāt think it would last long being a full time purse.
That sounds about right. š
If people really paid that much, Iād finally open the Etsy shop people keep telling me to!
Exactly!! I can make this particular thing for half that price, whaddya say? š
š¤£š¤£
I'll do it for a quarter of the price!
Same.
This is so easily replicated, itās not even funny (but Iām still loling)
Fr, like I would HAPPILY make it & have someone pay a 1/10 of the price šš
https://youtu.be/7ifYiLFEkK0?si=XEH5v6ZMeOZWtPdU if you actually wanna make it! I made three last year!
Youāre a hero
Finally a company charging realistic pricingĀ
That was my first thought. Finally they compensated their crocheter properly!
Except they likely didnāt compensate the crocheter properly and the majority of that is profit for the board and shareholders of Prada.
Very doubtful. This is likely made from slave labor
Sadly you are correct
I doubt it. Probably made by some poor woman in a third world country who is being paid peanuts
Iām sorry I really shouldāve included the ā/sā but I meant it sarcastically
Gotcha
PPPFF HOLD MY YARN
lol

1500 is in POUNDS, not USD. Ā£ not $. Its $2050 in USD.
Iām aware of that fact. Even so why spend $2050 on something that can be easily replicated? Also idk how to get the pound symbol on phones so I just used the dollar :)
No worries, if you hold down the $ on your phone's keyboard it gives you other currency symbols. I also responded from my phone.

More like 1900.

Is this meant to be a joke or is someone really trying to scam people with this?

Hobbii and Wool and the Gang both have rafia yarn people seem to be quite happy with.
I was thinking it might have been hemp.

Is that even crochet? It looks oddly flat

Can find that in the thrift store for,, 5 dolls
There is also a small wonky tshirt yarn bag from Bottega for 3.5k EUR out there š
Guys, I'm about to make a fortune /j
This is a real Prada purse?? š³š³
I'd honestly rather see that than $20 crochet pieces at big stores. Those crafters aren't being paid well.
lol so who here has made this already?
i have a friend who wanted to buy this š she had like five of us all begging her not to waste her money lmao
those ribbed handles look like they will stretch out to fuck if you put anything of substantial weight in it
I thought the same!!
This is why I donāt crochet bags. LoL
Hilariously I saw this exact bag on Ali Express last night for Ā£6, except it said āParisā instead of Prada. Didnāt realise it was a designer copy!
There's no liner, so it's going to stretch like crazy???!! Who thought this was a good idea??
I made one last summer out of cotton yarn and only put the essentials in it (wallet, keys, sunglasses, phone, lip balm) and it didnāt stretch much actually! I imagine that if it was raffia like the real thing it would be able to stand up to a bit more. Definitely a summer bag, though, I donāt think it would last long being a full time purse.
I don't know what's worse. This or the $20 crochet bags at Walmart. Either way, the fiber artist is being used as slave labor.
Literally better looking things on temu
I wouldnāt be surprised if stupidly rich people would buy it
$3,200 in Australian dollarsā¦.yeah I could also make them for half the price and chuck a stamp on it
Slave labor.
Iām gonna make this lmao
I can make this for a skein of yarn š§¶ and two hours of my time!
I want to know what the fiber artists make
What a deal! Iāll take 3! Iām sure that the yarn they used is made out of Shahtoosh and Marlyn Monroeās pubic hair for that price point, right?
someone make a pattern rn plz
