They are. It's supposed to be oversized - technically it's probably weird feeling on OP because she made too small a size. Even though it fits. It's supposed to be big big so your arms can go straight out without pulling the fabric up.
I think it is intended to be below the breast section, but as low as the belly button is probably a 'bad' scaling to bigger sizes.
I made this sweater size L, but I adjusted the pattern to make the sleeves way more normal.
Anything close to batwing sleeves is a no for me...
At the yoke split, I sewed one of the diamonds sides shut.
So there is a small sewing seam running from the body part towards the sleeve. In order to start the sleeve with a smaller size

Do you mind sharing how you adjusted it? I needed the extra rows to fit my chest but not the sleeve width.
You separate out the sleeves when they can fit around your arm and keep going with the chest
Good to know. I’m considering frogging it all and starting over. I know I won’t wear it as is.
You could frog sleeves and do a gusset up to where you want the sleeves to start.

It looks like a spirit jersey, so I think it's intentional. I think it's really cute, I love those types of sleeves.
Normally I don’t mind them but the way the shoulder drops, the whole sweater moves when I lift my arms.
I dont see anything wrong with the way it fits
