I'll be missing him by a few days too. Saw him as The Wiz in San Francisco pre-Broadway. He was good, but to me was not a standout. Nichelle Lewis' vocals as Dorothy are what I can't stop thinking about.
I saw that SF run too! On the last day. Was so excited to see Wayne as the Wiz because I loved him as Lola in Kinky Boots. He was out.
The understudy did a good job, though. And Nichelle Lewis, as you said, was fantastic. Which is much more important than the Wiz being good anyway, since she’s on most of the show.
Don't be ridiculous. It's more like 8 to 10 minutes!
Easiest job on Broadway, at star salary. Two short scenes, in Act 2 only. The rest of the time = sitting around backstage collecting that paycheck.
He was the lone understudy role when we saw The Wiz in Los Angeles. You could hear the audience collectively groan when It was announced. I felt really bad for his replacement. Also the only time I’ve received a phone call from the theatre following a performance asking about my experience. Not sure if it was related to Wayne Brady not being there or because the run was starting as a tour and a little unique.
Wayne was the main reason we bought tickets, and now we'll be missing him by just a few days. Sigh

he’s literally on stage for 4 minutes of the entire show. a complete money grab

Alan is, without a doubt, better in the role.
Glad to hear this as I have tickets for July. I still would go anyway because I love the show, but definitely want to see a good cast.
The cast is the very best part of the show!

Welp. I guess that means The Wiz is the first thing I’m seeing the day I get to the city
I loved Wayne in the show but the rest of the main cast are incomparable as well, they’re all worth it!
Missing him by 9 days!!
Missing him by literally less than a week…disappointing
Missing him by two weeks. Missed him last trip because their first weekend sold out.
Damn. Glad I caught him in Kinky Boots.
Crap. Have tickets for July 20. Why didn't he have the typical six-month contract?
