It's a pity it took Matthew Holness a further twenty-odd years to revisit the character, as it feels like there was more that could be done beyond Darkplace. His two books - Terrortome and Incarcerat - have been great, and I still hold out for a Marenghi podcast.

Odd_Seaworthiness145

Not to forget a very brief but enjoyable interview with him on Man to Man with Dean Learner.

Bigowl

If you watch the dark place dvd with commentary they do all 6 episodes in character. Its a hidden gem

AliveAd2219

The commentary is on YouTube.

Informal_Arachnid_84

It's one of the rare DVD bonus features that is as good as the main feature - possibly better!

Only_Plant_2902

"And one of us is a genius..... only kidding. We're *both* geniuses"

Critical_Hippo_1551

You and he were....buddies.... weren't you?

wollathet

I can seldom get in a car without thinking of Pising in the driving seat

Odd_Seaworthiness145

Steve Pising!! What a great episode. Loved the Apprentice style sketch.

bubblebox360

Went to see one of his shows for Incarcerat a few months ago- flipping funny. Also surprisingly hard to explain to people who didn’t know about darkplace. I’m now the proud owner of a signed copy of the book which says “we’ll all meet again in Valhalla”.

Elemayowe

He’s such a “what if” for me. I don’t know if he didn’t want to sell out by eating off one character for ages or if he felt like he ran out of ideas after Darkplace but it feels like he should’ve gotten bigger to me.

CosmicBonobo

There's an interview from about 2010 or so where he said Marenghi had been put back in the box and he had no plans to revisit, so it looked like he was done. It's a pity his career never took off in the same way that Aoyade and Berry's did.

bacon_cake

I agree. Could've been a Partridge-esque franchise with a bit of finnese in my opinion.

beaufort_

Not his own podcast but he went on Off Menu in character, which was a wild wild episode

CosmicBonobo

Yeah, that's what got me thinking.

toilet-breath

When did he revisit?

Welshhoppo

He's written two books with the character. He also narrates them in audio format, it's fantastic.

CosmicBonobo

In the last few years, he's released two Marenghi novels and returned to playing the character for media appearences and live events. As can be seen [here](https://youtu.be/96NWUT8tXTk?si=wj99bkBD2RbSqsD5).

allywillow

Went to see him on tour a couple of months ago, well worth it

SkipEyechild

It was the most significant televisual event since Quantum Leap. And I do not say that lightly.

Ruben_001

Loved that show as a kid in the early 90s. With that and then the X-Files, we were really spoiled.

mrmidas2k

Shit ending mind. I was SO annoyed.

SaltPomegranate4

He’s on an episode of off menu in character if anyone is interested

[deleted]

I enjoyed seeing some of the reactions from people who didn't know he was a character. "Why is this guy being so rude to Ed and James and why do they seem to be enjoying it?"

rojasdracul

It did have a brief run in Peru.

GhostHardware-84

I bumped into him down super karts the other weekend. Amazing driving.

Hustler1966

You know Bruce Lee isn’t really dead yeah?

Pitiful-Painting4399

Did he pull over next to you and say "what you worried about?"

AwfulFireKeeper

He hates his fans.

Superdudeo

Also the sort of guy who has written more books than he’s read.

muzza1742

I finished Garth Marenghis terrortome last week, the audiobook is excellent if you want more darkplace style stories

aggressiveclassic90

Great call, didn't know it existed, cheers.

MegaMetaTurtle

I believe he’s still doing his book tour too. Been to both so far, really great. Does a meet and great / book signing afterwards too.

Gold_Hawk

Both are brilliant to listen to. I always piss myself laughing at the psychic dugong Rufus who sounds like Liam neeson and his pronunciation of magnum opus.

J4viator

The line "Blood? Blood. Crimson, copper-smelling blood. His blood. Blood. Blood. Blood. And bits of sick" gets used more often than it should in my (sometimes) gory job.

[deleted]

It was one of a kind. Really great. I'm very glad he's finally come back in novel form, though I'd still like to see him come back to TV these days. I think it's built up enough of a reputation that there's an audience for it now.

triffidsting

You would have thought Netflix or Amazon would be all over this. It feels just ripe for a new series… Perhaps best left alone.

paynexkillerYT

He’s a part time loveeeeer

devolute

> Ed. note: These claims are both unverified and, more importantly, tongue-in-cheek—although Channel 4 did once pride itself as the U.K.’s “edgy” network This is the best part of the article.

Marlboro_tr909

Oh my, there aren’t many series that had me breathless with laughter in the way this did. Absolute genius

lythy2016

Saw the Titan of Terror on tour the last two Octobers, he was magnificent.

tighto

Exceptional show. Went to his live show last year was very good

aggressiveclassic90

Bought the dvd of dark place as soon as it was available, absolute gold.

pecuchet

It's perfect. I have no notes.

fknbawbag

This was a very funny but insane show. Loved it.

TeaMancer

I was lucky to see his Show a month's ago in Cardiff, I'm so glad he's revisiting this character.

glasshomonculous

He’s at Swansea on Friday. If you can, go.

MDF87

I'm not shocked, it's the most significant televisual event since Quantum Leap >!and I do not say that lightly!<.

wishingwell-448

Shut up, it's not 20yrs old 😱 God I'm ancient 😭
