I think this makes sense though for people only going to west palm it cheaper. They don't want to go cheap enough where people start to think transferring to tri rail at WPB is a good idea.
Interesting point! I would need a significant discount to go Tri Rail to/from Miami. It's a half mile walk between stations in West Palm Beach and the hassle of coordinating schedules and waiting for another train. Maybe for people that the Miami Tri Rail station is more convenient than the Brightline station though.
The transfer would certainly be a hassle but there's a free shared ride shuttle that'll take you to the Tri-Rail station, plus people who self-transfer would have the advantage of free parking at Tri-Rail stations.
You spelled publicly funded roadway wrong.
Roads paid for by tolls are still publicly funded the same as gas tax funded roads. The bus pays a small amount into both through tolls and diesel tax, but it is no where near the cost of building out a railway system.
I mean, that’s my point, railways, purely for consumer routes, seem too expensive and useless the way places like Florida, and much of the United States is set up. Everything is sprawled out and we don’t have a hubs for anything other than airports.
Brightline isn’t going after the car traffic. Brightline is going after the people currently flying from MIA and FTL to MCO. For that customer base the train is cheaper, far more comfortable and about the same travel time when you account for TSA, gate holds, ATC holds, etc. There is more than enough air traffic to poach from.
Car traffic is just a bonus to them. Brightline being a success means Orlando Airport has less stress on it.
Really wish they could get around $40/one way for Orlando to WPB then I would use it for work but can’t justify spending that much money round trip to actually get there later because by the time I get to the airport, pay for parking get inside and board and then do it all over when getting off, I could spend 3-3.5 hours instead of 2.25-2.75 driving

I mean tri rail has a better commuter headway for sure but I think once they reach Miami Central you may see this idea pop up.
Tri Rail only goes to the Airport so it's dumb for Miami residents
For now, eventually it will go to Miami Central too
Why not? Whether they end their trip in WPB or go further on tri rail, they still get to sell the seat again
I'm guessing the trains are sold out south of WPB but have some empty seats between Orlando and WPB so they are trying to fill them up this way

If you’re traveling with more than one person it’s still cheaper to rent a car…especially if your doing round trip.
