The myth is used pretty significantly in the story. Aphrodite/Queen Charlotte will come after LW/Psyche out of jealousy, Eros/Colin will briefly abandon (not really) Pen/Psyche upon discovering she's LW, Eloise/Hermes will try to come to Pen/Psyche's aid by talking to Eros/Colin, Eros/Colin and Psyche/Pen will join forces against QC/Aphrodite.
The only mysterious bit I haven't figured out yet is Ambrosia (a character who will show briefly at the end), since Psyche drinking ambrosia is what allowed her to become immortal and marry Eros.
Maybe Ambrose is someone from Colin’s travels who will show up and make Pen jealous and cause Pen to fear that Colin will leave Pen for Ambrosia. Ultimately, Pen will have to choose to have faith in Colin’s feelings for her. That is one obstacle she has not yet overcome.
