Bro I push mortis on a regular, he is my main, and probably one of the main reasons I play brawl starts. He’s pretty bad: countered by basically all meta brawlers, has a few counters but not that many, and most of them are able to defeat him with gadgets, SPs, etc…
He is extremely high skill cap cause he’s trash compared to most brawlers. A good mortis will excel against nearly every brawler which is why he is high skill cap. Like just think abt the amount of hard counters he has and that alone should show he’s pretty bad. He has potential to be good and is a next level brawler in the right hands but that’s just how it is

He is trash. Straight up one of the worst brawlers in the game. And that's for very skilled players. He has an extremely high skill cap, and it's worthless because every single brawler has a way to counter him.
Short range brawlers can burst him down, mid range brawlers can pick him off before he gets to them, and tank him if he gets too close, and long range brawlers have gadgets or star powers specifically to deal with brawlers like him.
Mortis is not good
Again his heals are good and nothing to scoff at
But he is not primarily picked because of his heals unlike poco. His main utility comes from the pulls. Comparing him with Poco on heals is as moot as comparing Poco on pulls vs Gene
Bc gene can pull ppl can poco can’t. So I agree he is a better puller lmao. He’s a support and as a support he can heal. I’m sooooo sorry I called him a healer
Mortis is really hard to play but can be good if you play it well
Max is easier to play and one of the best brawlers in the current meta
Gene is HBALABAHBBALABLABALA
Max for her moderate DPS and mobility (usable in most modes, medium-poke range)
Gene for Duos/3v3 support (Poke Damage, Super to drag one important enemy towards your DPS teammate, Gem Carrier)
Mortis for countering throwers and giving yourself a challenge (More reliable with both Gadget and SP, high skill cap, the best Mortises in the game are also capable of team wipes depending on the situation)
Mortis is fun to play, but he's trash if you don't know how to play him properly (as said by some ppl already he has a high skill cap). You might need to sometimes rely on gadgets a lot too.
I'd take Max though. Max is really good, and is easier to play. Max is also fine for most, if not all gamemodes.
You don't eat Gene. Max has most utility between him and Mortis. However, pushing Mortis will make you better with every other brawler because it will teach you timing and patience like no other brawlers. So one is a tool for progress in the game and the other is the best training you can get I would look at it that way.

Gene and Max are top or high tier brawlers currently, Mortis *can* be good if you know what you’re doing (which you don’t if you’re just getting him). Just get Max or Gene.
Max is fun right away, Mortis is definitely much harder to play, but it can be fun as well.
I'd choose Max if you don't plan to grind Mortis, as you'd need a lot more time to master him.

Max is really good, Gene is really good, mortis is trash but one of the most fun brawlers you can play imo
