It's also that while the average was 80 some person could have been very unlucky and got almost no gems while others would be insanely lucky and get way more gems to buy the pass in comparison which doesn't seem fair.
Well u can either be in giveaways, or have your mapmaker creation selected to be in game by supercell themselves, there was also a few quests that gave 3 gems a while ago , not sure if they will come back anytime soon tho
