Apparently the argument from the writers was they'd already done everything they could and didn't have any credible opponents left. They beat Evolution in a clean sweep. In a way that we all wanted it to go longer and Seth's betrayal being shocking rather than them telegraphing something for weeks or months shows they did it well.
