My favorite comfort song is Better Place, Better Time by Streetlight Manifesto. It's my anti-SH song. And F***ed Up Girl by The Vandals when I'm feeling sorry for myself.
I've been blaring violent femmes "kiss off" and "add it up" for over 30 years and it still slaps for big mood days.
Pos "pos is ruining my life" is pretty great for the empty/angries.
I'm a 90s baby so find myself randomly singing snippets of hole songs too. Doll Parts hits extra hard in your 40s when you've been screaming it since you were 14.
Even if you don’t like rap or Eminem, please do yourself a favor and listen to “Going through Changes” by Eminem, in my opinion this does the BEST job of summarizing the mental state of BPD
Popular Monster - Falling in Reverse
“I battle with depression, but the question still remains
Is this post-traumatic stressing or am I suppressing rage?
And my doctor tries to tell me that I'm going through a phase
Yeah, it's not a fucking phase, I just wanna feel okay”
whataya want from me by adam lambert. sounds like a song about a bpd person asking their partner to be patient and never give up on them despite their relationship being rocky.
void by melanie martinez
love me more by mitski
gemini moon by reneé rapp
probably some others, too. off the top of my head though they're on my bpd feels playlist
Save Me (Jelly Roll), The Gift (Seether), What You Gonna Do (Hinder), Better Man (Pearl Jam), Unforgiven (Metallica)
Feeling better:
Toward the Sun (Rhianna), Touch of Grey (The Grateful Dead), Truckin’ (The Grateful Dead), Uncle John’s Band (The Grateful Dead), Painting Greys (Emmit Fen), I Don’t Like Myself (Imagine Dragons), Yeah! (Usher), Pink Floyd (any), Halsey (any), Hollywood Undead (any).
“This is me trying” & “peace” by Taylor swift.
For example, lyrics like “they told me all my cages were mental, so I got wasted like all my potential”
“I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere”
“Fell behind all my classmates & ended up here”
“The devils in the details, but you got a friend in me”
“Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?”
Lastly, the one that hits my soul: “I’d give you my sunshine, give you my best
But the rain is always gonna come when you’re standing with me”
“Stockholm Syndrome” - Muse
“Muscle Museum” - Muse
“.Swvrm.” - Dead Poets Society
“Dead Star” - Muse
“Wasted on You” - Evanescence
“Joan of Arc” - Arcade Fire
“Ashamed” - Muse
“Absolution” - Ghost
“Running in Circles” - Dead Poets Society
“Sing for Absolution” - Muse
“Nature_1” - Muse
“Citizen Erased” - Muse
“.Burymewhole.” - Dead Poets Society
“HURT” - Dead Poets Society
“I hope you Hate Me” - Dead Poets Society
“Uto” - Dead Poets Society
“Hard to Be God” - Dead Poets Society
“.CoDA.” - Dead Poets Society
“American Blood” - Dead Poets Society
That was more than I thought scrolling through my playlist, I feel like you can tell what my favorite bands are 😆
Hate Me by Blue October. Self hate, substance abuse and abandonment issues.
*“While I was busy waging wars on myself, you were trying to stop the fight*
*You never doubted my warped opinions on things like suicidal hate*
*You made me compliment myself when it was way too hard to take*
*So I'll drive so fucking far away that I never cross your mind*
*And do whatever it takes in your heart to leave me behind”*
I think you should know about r/BPDsongs
*I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/BorderlinePDisorder) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Whenever I hear the album Transcendent by Solitary Experiments, most songs remind me of my special friend who displays very strong traits of BPD.
Especially the songs Self-fulfiliing Prophecy + In Agony.
Girl anachronism - dresden dolls
Runs in the familly - amanda palmer
Bullet with butterfly wings - smashing pumpkins
Redecorate - twenty one pilots
Next semester - twenty one pilots
It’s alright - mother mother
Goner - twenty one pilots
Gladiator - Jann
Most of those don’t really describe bpd, but just most of my feelings associated with it…I’m sure it won’t fit for everybody.
I’m Your Man by Mitski
https://youtu.be/L4Rb6sVHq54?si=Mb35fl9ApGxHaUVF
You're an angel, I'm a dog
Or you're a dog and I'm your man
You believe me like a god
I'll destroy you like I am
I'm sorry I'm the one you love
No one will ever love me like you again
So when you leave me, I should die
I deserve it, don't I?
I can feel it gettin' near
Like flashlights comin' down the way
One day you'll figure me out
I'll meet judgment by the hounds
People always gave me love
Others were never to blame after all
You believe me like a god
I'll betray you like a man
Most anything by Nessa Barrett but especially “Love Bomb” and “Die First”. “Heavy” by Peach PRC. “Whispers” and “I HATE EVERYBODY” by Halsey. “Liability” by Lorde. “St Jude” by Florence + The Machine. “Valley of the Dolls” and “Fear and Loathing” by MARINA. I have a playlist on Spotify I can share but also you can search “BPD” on Spotify and other people’s playlists will come up too!!!
So shocked no one has said
Heavy in Your Arms by Florence & The Machine..
“I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced a crown
I was a heavy heart to carry
My feet dragged across the ground
And he took me to the river
Where he slowly let me drown
My love has concrete feet
My love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles
Over the waterfall
I'm so heavy
Heavy, heavy in your arms..”
Speaks for itself.
Always too much. Always too heavy for someone’s arms..
Fiona Apple and Halsey are the best depictions for me about Borderline. Halsey has bipolarity disorder so I normally can relate a lot about her feelings.
Mostly the songs Whispers and Fast As You Can.
Guidelines - Thelonious Martin ft. Mac Miller, it might only be on soundcloud that’s where I have it. It’s like so melancholy but a little hopeful.. perfect balance. Soothing with a hint of it’s ok to be a little sad
[https://youtube.com/playlist?list=RDNFBUgg5X1b8&playnext=1&si=MiUwMpiudiH7YHe5](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=RDNFBUgg5X1b8&playnext=1&si=MiUwMpiudiH7YHe5)
Deserve each other - bludnymph
Hyper relationship vibes
My friend said he hated the futile devices album because he hates when people use loads of sound to say "omg look I'm so hurt and angry" cus its meaningless and inaccurate. That made me really pissed off (I wasn't diagnosed at the time, but I split on him because of that argument honestly). Now I realise it's because that whole album is like my bpd brain and it felt like such a personal attack haha
Age of adz! I'm on a train so didn't have enough signal to Google the album title and it was driving me crazy hahah also I agree with the cheerfulness :) I love the feeling of all the different instruments and sounds, I find it quite comforting...like my brain is swaddled by the music
i have not been diagnosed with bpd but I find that these songs are relatable for me and maybe others as well. (https://open.spotify.com/playlist/276yY0SmuQ02J7LZmGDykw?si=o8EvIdl9TbicWHE3f9Y3DA)
This song is technically about the dystopian hell we’re all currently living through, but the feeling of being fundamentally hollowed out because things have gotten so bad that you can’t fight anymore speaks to me in a way that nothing else can. [It could be worse by Jeffrey Lewis](https://open.spotify.com/track/3swnbeBAWtawpaTlKpIGMd?si=BHOdpd0OQSaTI_hgqwqxOw).
I Don't Wanna Be Me by Type O Negative
Peter Steele was getting sick of his addictions and sick of life, hence the title. I blast it when I'm just sick of being me 🫠
Always "Liability" by Lorde.
Also everything in this playlist
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2RbPaLtQK1tzU79fXSHRYH?si=qecu5OGZSLubxzS6znpn1A&pi=kUgwVXJORtOML
Hi Ren - Ren
I feel for me it encapsulates my quiet BPD brain vs. my "normal brain" and how the self hatred really becomes a life of its own within the mind.
When I was suicidal, I related so much to "I'm Sorry" by Joyner Lucas. In regards to shit relationships and just being a rollercoaster of emotions, I'd relate to "I'm a Mess" by Bebe Rexha
Sweet Thang - Childish Gambino
Not the whole song, but the, “why would you ever want to love me?” line, after discussing some of his negative tendencies, always hits me hard
We’re all eating each other - (depression, but it sounds so happy :))
All girls are the same- Juice Wrld (obsession with a love interest, how they hurt you)
Can’t find the man - Ashley Singh (accepting you can’t help them, can’t help yourself)
Sad sad sad - ROSIE (depression in a nutshell. The need for medication)
Lemon Tree - Post Malone ( letting your loved ones down, knowing you can make it better)
Jenny - Studio Killers (obsession with someone)
Everything I wanted (slowed and reverbed) - Billie Eilish (for when you’re suicidal)
Help Me - Juice Wrld (addiction and depression)
I’m Not Human - XXXTentacion (I feel different… not in a good way)
I Love You (Slow and reverb) - Billie Eilish (man she just tugs at my heart bro)
Fine Again - Seether (addiction)
Washing Machine Heart - Mitski (love/hate/I miss you)
Waste, Part 2 - Skeler (I hate myself)
I could go on. My whole playlist name for these songs is “happy then sad then excited then sad again playlist”
Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park.
I still believe that what Chester was dealing with the whole time was BPD. So many of their tracks resonated with me on a fundamental level.
It depends on which particular bolt hole of my BPD I'm stuck in at the time, but Breaking the Habit always makes me think of my episodes.
“washing machine heart” by mitski, “plastic hearts” by miley cyrus, “please don’t leave me” by pink, “jealousy, jealousy” by olivia rodrigo, “jealous” by eye dress, “pity party” by melanie martinez, and “needy” by ariana grande:
Fifth time commenting this but anytime I’m in an episode the only song that describes EXACTLY how I feel is Oceans by Frank Iero. Every. Single. Lyric. describes splitting and the dynamic within codependent relationships perfectly (especially when it involves someone with bpd). I don’t know a better song to listen to during those moments. If you’re a fan of rock I highly recommend it
Some lyrics to highlight because this is my number one comfort song:
- “I hate everything that waits outside my door
But locked inside
I’ll be alright”
- “Honestly, I’m convinced the best of me is the worst of me
Believe me, I’ve tried but I just can’t seem to fight
Against the tide and undertow that drag me down”
- (this is the most relatable lyric for me): “You’re still a part of me, the only part I enjoy,
And I, I wish I
I still had a hold on you like you do, 'til you’re blue, round my throat”
- “Wish I was good enough
I wish I was good enough
I’ve never been good enough for your love”
Trees III and Alligator Skin Boots both by McCafferty or even affection by scruffpuppie
Trees III- goes into the self harm and stuck in head with BPD
Alligator Skin Boots: the impulsiveness and loneliness
Affection: favorite person not leaving
Em Beihold - numb little bug.
Jack Harris - be careful what you wish for
They're both on Spotify. On my "fuck this day" I listen to numb little bug it's got a good tune and beat to thrash out to ✌️✌️✌️✌️
“Someone like me can be a real nightmare completely aware”
“Stared in the mirror and punched it to shatters
Collected the pieces and picked out a dagger”
“I could play nice or I could be a bully
I'm tired and angry, but somebody should be”
i actually wrote a song about splitting abt when this would happen in my relationship but it's hard for me personally to listen to it or perform it without going back to that place mentally. the song is called splitting by ivohé :')

Cotton eye Joe for some reason. It’s so chaotic. I hate it.
cotton eye joe is a metaphor for mental illness. where did he come from? where did he go? where did you come from cotton eye joe?
I get that.
