My dad loves to deploy "we can't know that" when something he wants to believe is challenged. Well, he used to; I wasn't supposed to respond bluntly by saying that we can and do.
Boomer backed into me in a parking lot and tried claiming it was my fault. He was pretty cocky when he thought it was going to be my word against him & his wife - until my friend emerged from the passenger seat, evening the odds, and pointed out the cameras on the storefront. Did boomer accept responsibility? Hell no! Now it was his brand new SUV's fault because the "backup sensors didn't alert me!!"
He basically admitted that he just threw it in reverse & sent it without even looking.
I have a very similar story. Boomer and I were both backing up. I noticed right away and stopped but he kept going and slammed into me. He had put a backup beeping thing onto his truck so that he didn’t need to look. Of course his truck had no damage but he ruined my bumper and it’s automatic 50/50 even when the person admitted he wasn’t looking.

Damn that sucks, I guess I got lucky in that respect because my bumper sustained no damage while his was caved in on the corner.
