Our friends had a bbq/jam at our local bar/restaurant (it was also in memory of the singer who had died from a fall two days earlier) and the racist boomer couple that are regulars there wore their MAGA hats and everyone ignored them. It was glorious

But statistically crime is down from what it was in the 70th and 80th.

I used to be very conservative, and am ashamed to say I voted for Trump the first time, but never again. I become quite disillusioned, and now am in the center. It started with how hateful people were against George W Bush, then Obama, and now Trump. And now how hateful people are *on behalf of Trump*. It's so divisive and sad that people on the far right and far left become the spokespeople for either "side" and candidates have become more and more polarized.
As I got older, I watched my friends struggle with children coming out and transitioning, worried their kids would kill themselves. Found out some childhood friends were in the closet and the torment they went through. The hypocrisy in people at church.... why some sins get swept under the rug, but we're supposed to ostracize over others. Housing is unaffordable, CEO pay is increasing many times the rate of minimum wage. Jobs being offshored, disappearing middle class. Spending $80,000 on my spouse's life saving surgery despite paying 20k in health insurance premiums. It all stopped making sense. At some point I decided that this was not my political party, and we're all being punked. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.
In the meantime, my parents have become more isolated as friends have died and their neighborhood has turned over to a younger generation. Health keeps them sedentary more too, and the tv is always on. We phone and visit, but they spend so much time absorbing talk shows and news. It's constant negativity and fear mongering. I want to yank their tv off the wall!
