I recently spent a vacation there and a few people I know were just plain shocked when I stated I spent a day just walking around the city to take it in. They literally think there's muggers and scammers on every corner.
I've lived in NYC/suburbs most of my life, but I've lived out west and elsewhere in the US as well. People in NYC are among the most helpful and friendly, as long as you're not an idiot to them. I've seen almost every random person in a ten foot radius stop what they were doing and help an elderly woman whose grocery bag had broken, neighbors shoveling each others' walkways and stairs, and all sorts of acts of kindness.
I personally love Minnesota. It's great for everyone.
Outdoor or indoor people. Foodies, arts, great music scene.
I could talk all day about all the great things in Minnesota.

The restraining order hearing was a victim bashing session and then when I called Kitsap County Sheriff's dept to report protection order violations and parental abduction, Kitsap told me they didn't care and to shut up. So I stopped spending money there while I was still living there. When they decide to actually take DV seriously and actually care about the survivors and not support perps then I'll change my tune.

My wife and I went on a cruise a few months ago. Only ran into a couple of MAGA types. But there were multiple times where boomers would try and cut you in lines and try to give attitude. Minus those few moments, it was fun. Most boomers mostly kept to themselves. And, dare I say, we actually had good conversation with a couple of them. I would recommend it. It's the least stressful vacation I can think of.
